The words of Mr. Bynes rang in Jesse's ear like an old Salvation Army bell, being viciously swung side to side, back and forth in his head, doing various twists and turns until all Jesse could do was sigh and rub his eyes, kicking imaginary dirt with his bright yellow high tops below his feet. He stood at the bathroom door, not daring to go in yet and leaning against a deep, maroon locker.
Jesse couldn't get the damn teacher out of his head. "Did you try your best?" he had asked, and, of course, with no other feasible answer - if Jesse still wanted to get high - the pale, skinny young man had said yes. Quite adamently, too. Normally, Jese wouldn't care, so why did he feel so unimaginably...guilty??
He hadn't tried his best, and he knew it, too. It was within the norms of Jesse's behavioral pattern to lie about his lack of trying, but for some reason...the way the teacher was acting...how he said it...unsettled him.
Unsettled him so much that he wasn't sure if getting high would make it 10 times better or 10 times worse.
Again, he sighed and rubbed his eyes, the mahogony haired girl entering the ladies bathroom in his periphery without a single word, and a rather unapproachable expression on her strangely pretty face.
Jesse must have stood there for a few more moments before he noticed Aria aimlessly wandering the halls. Quickly, he glanced up at her, and his heart beat fast when they locked eyes. Dammit, Jesse thought to himself, hiding his bitter expression. She's gonna wonder what I'm doing. 'Oh, yeah, Aria, I'm totally contemplating whether I should smoke some weed with Argus or not, so you better go run to the teacher right now so we both can get caught.' He rolled his eyes, looking to his feet nervously and feebly shielding his face with a yellow hoodie sleeve. Hopefully she'll go away.
