Expect The Unexpected

Heather thought quietly for a moment as she tried to think of other things that they should talk about, there was so much yet not enough at the same time. They would have a lot of shopping to do as well as looking around for new doctors and making sure to find an insurance office that in in Colorado so that they could ask questions if needed.

"Well, since we aren't married, the baby will be in my custody right off the bat and I'll be labeled a single mother by my company which might give us some benefits for a little while, at least until we get married if ever. I want you to have custody as well so we'll have to ask around about that...I want you to be able to do something if I can't and vice versa...Also, We'll have to talk to the insurance companies and see which one has better benefits to cover the baby under..." She said as she looked up at him.

She started to eat the rest of her meal, chewing her food more thoughtfully as things started coming together. Now all they needed was to start packing and they could really get a move on then.

He nodded understandingly as the waiter came and took his dirty dishes.

"Of course...We'll get everything sorted out."

Ethan would wait until she was finnished then would come over and take her coat from the chair. He would help her up and help her put her coat on before, intrwining his fingers with hers as he escorted her back out to the car. The man helped her in and shut the door before climbing in and beginning the drive home. Though it was quiet...it was a comfortable quiet the two had come to appricate. Back at the house, he helped her inside before going back to their bedroom and changing into what he usually slept in, sweats and a tank top. His busy day was beginning o catch up with him as his eyes grew a bit heavy.

Heather finished her food quietly after that, cleaning her plate completely which was a bit of a feat since she wasn't much of an eater. When their food was paid for she stood, smiling at her boyfriend as he helped her into her coat and took her hand. She felt like her spoiled her rotten sometimes, he was far to nice and kind for her to ever deserve in her opinion. The drive home was that comfortable quite that she loved, the kind they had when they were just sitting together, each doing their own thing but still seeming to show love at the same time. The moment they were at the apartment Heather was hit with a wave a tiredness which was no surprise considering the bit of emotional stress she had been through earlier. After changing into a giant sweatshirt that looked like a nightgown on her she crawled into bed with her love, cuddling up against him to get the rest they both deserved and needed...

The next month was...hectic to say the least. The very next day after learning of her pregnancy Heather told her close friend and boss about it as well as her plans to move in with Ethan's family to help make ends meet. At first her boss had thought she was joking, but when Heather did not laugh as well, the woman nearly screamed in both joy and surprise. Finally, one of the best writers was finally going to understand what all the articles were talking about! Of course by mid morning the whole office knew and was bombarding her with questions about the move and other items. It didn't take long for Heather to be swept up into the excitement as well and was soon talking about her own personal ideas for the birth and what she planned for the baby in general.

After all of that, Heather was pulled into her bosses office once again and planned the set up for the situation, being able to keep her job and just emailing it to her to be sent to the editor. She only ever did one article a month so it would not be an issue until around her due date. Heather then spent the rest of her day running around town, her boss so giddy from the news that she sent her home to relax and enjoy her last days in the city. She check in on her insurance company to learn about child benefits and even stopped by the book store to pick up about five different parenting and baby books since she was completely clueless. Along with that she started to organize the selling of the old furniture and looking up a good deal on movers and trucks.

The rest of the month in Heather's mind was a blur of box shopping, take out and research on babies and pregnancy and before she knew it they were in their car, following the moving truck to Colorado. Though the truck would be there and probably unpacked before they even got there her mind was still nervous. She was going to meet her boyfriends parents for the first time, and not under the best of circumstances. As she watched the state line sigh come into view she found herself feeling a little sick. Even though she wasn't showing yet she had been having some nasty morning sickness every other day...Today was not a good day. One month was down for the count, eight to go before baby arrived and only a few hours before grandparents learned of baby...Yep, she was going to be sick.

"Pull over." She said, her tone weak but demanding. She looked terribly green and had her hand on the handle ready to just open the door so she could vomit...Pregnancy definitely wasn't as pretty as she thought.

The month that followed Ethan Finding out of his girlfriend's pregnany was insanity. Between the selling of furniture, insurence stuff, packing, work, discussions about the pregnancy and baby things were needless to say..crazy. Before he could fully wrap his head around things they were packed, and following the moving van out to Colorado. Ethan was an bit anxious about returning home after so long. And he knew there was no going back once they approached and crossed the state line. What was refreshing though was the green foilage and evegreen's that were all over the state. Just as he looked over, he saw Heather. She looked unbelieveably green and before he offered, she demanded they pull over. So carefully he pulled over and the moving truck moved on forward without them. He got out of the car as she did and kept his back turned as not to get sick himself. The man hadn't been eating much as of late and to tell the truth always felt a bit lightheaded. When she was finished he went over to her and pulled her into a gently hug, careful to not squeeze her belly and upset the baby or her belly again. He held her there for a little while, stroking her hair lovingly.

"Are you going to be okay...? You've been a bt jittery all day...Don't worry Heather, my parents will love you. My mom will be excited for us and we;ll deal with my dad as it comes...I promise everything is going to be okay...a little crazy but okay..."

He looked down into her eyes with his green ones, his honesty spoke through them...

As soon as they stopped Heather burst from the car and out of view of the road. Retching sounds followed for the next few minutes as she lost the breakfast she had eaten only a few hours ago. The only positive part of that experience was the fact that her hair wasn't in the way this time, pulled back constantly now after learning the hard way that long hair and vomiting didn't mix well. Once she was done, nothing left for her morning sickness to toss up. Once she was done she felt Ethan hug her gently, she gratefully returning it after wiping her face of spit.

"I'm fine..." She said weakly. "This morning sickness is just taking its tole on me...and it doesn't help that I'm all nervous about meeting your parents. On top of that I still haven't be able to have a phone call with my own parents since the only time they can usually call was when we were busy with the move...I'm just stressed, that's really all it is..."

She leaned in and rested her head on his shoulder, just breathing slowly and relaxing for a moment. She then noticed for the first time how wonderful the place smelled, even if they were only a couple feet from the road. The trees and such were pretty amazing if they could smell that good, they seemed to help with the nausea as well. Finally, having calmed herself enough to where her stomach wasn't doing cartwheels, she pull back from her boyfriend and smiled a little.

"Okay, we can go now..."

He nodded and kissed her on the top of the head before helping her into the car and going around to the other side. Ethan climbed in and started the car again, pulling back into the road. He drove for what seemed like hours. Colorado seemed the same from when he had left it. So was the town...they drove a couple of hours before they finally arrived there. The town wasn't big but it had everything people needed. Ethan subconciously drove through the streets. Despite being away from them so long, he remember them, and knew them like the back of his hand. As they turned down a street, Ethan could see his house up ahead, at the end of the street. It was just as he left it. Before they arrived he reached over and took her hand, gently squeezing it.

"It's the house at the end of the street the one with the barn and land behind it. You ready...?" he looked over at her.

After climbing into the car and laying back a bit, Heathers was finally able to calm a little bit. She watched out the window as they drove on, it seeming like hours before they finally saw the little town. She had to admit that it was rather cute for a town, almost like it was out of some romance novel...It was just too perfect. However, she was a city girl at heart and she couldn't help missing the tall skyscrapers and busy streets of New York. She squeezed his hand gently in return as she looked at him with a small smile.

"As ready as any pregnant city girl came be." She said in a tone that meant she was joking. When he stopped the car she didn't move right away, more from being tired and sick the whole trip than being nervous. She eventually opened the door and slipped out of the car before looking over the house and farm quietly.

He pulled the key from the ignition and came over to her side, gently taking her hand and reashurring her they would catch up with the Moving van soon enough. Ethan gripped and twisted the doorknob. It was open...like always. Mom always liked the neighbors stopping by and being able to come in and talk to her if they needed too. He pushed the door open, stepping into the house, looking around. It looked as quaint as he remembered. The house was filled with things that perfectly repersented Colorado as a whole. He walked into the living room and smiled, and called out.

"Mom! I'm home and I brought someone to meet you!"

An urgent rustling was heard from the kitchen and a woman came out. She was dressed in a spaghetti strap summer dress, her hair, the same color as Ethan's a dark brown. It fell in perfect curly ringlets, framing her face, down to her shoulder blades. Her eyes were a sparkling grey color and she wore an apron. She had smudges of flour on her apron and face, though she wiped it away as she came into the room. Despite looking like she was in her late thirties she was over all a beautiful woman with a clear peachy complection. A wide smile came across her light pink, rosy painted lips. She came over to her son and he let go of Heather's hand to hug his mother as she hugged him. After she pulled away, talking happily about and to her son she turned to Heather. She went over to her, a friendly smile across her lips, a brightness in her eyes.,

"You must be Heather! The one we have been told so much about..."

Ethan took her hand again and his mother grinned happily.

Heather let Ethan lead her toward the house, rather surprised that they left the door unlocked so that anyone could walk in. In New York that was unheard of. As her boyfriend called for his mother she glanced around the house quietly, taking in the design and furniture. It was rather homey in her opinion, like a little country cottage in her mind. This was the kind of house she would pretend to have when she was a little girl, still wanting to grow up and be a princess. Of course her tastes had changed a long time ago but she still found herself liking the look and feel of the place...This was the kind of place you could raise a child.

Her attention was soon on an older woman, but not much older considering how young she looked. In fact, Heather thought that she was a young aunt of some sort until the woman hugged Ethan and called him son. She smiled kindly at the woman though, her motherly attitude and kind voice making it hard to keep a straight face.

"It's a pleasure to finally met you, Mrs. McCoy. I have to admit I'm a little surprised now that I've met you face to face. You don't look like you're old enough to be Ethan's mother at all." She said politely in return, knowing that it sounded a bit like she was sucking up even though she was telling the truth. She held onto Ethan's hand a little more tightly as she spoke to the woman, a little nervous about making a good impression.

Ethan's mother laughed a bit, lightheartedly.

"Thank you dear, I was young when I had Ethan. It was thanks to his father and this town I decided to keep him. Despite my husband being a traditionalist, we couldn't bring ourselves to end a life. Ethan's grandparents were a little hesitant for me to have him but once you have that life inside you it's amazing and There is such a connection between mother and child, even today."

She smiled, nudging Ethan. He just smiled back at her; then he realized something.

"Mom, where is dad..?"

"Oh! He went into town to help Mrs. Johnson with some grocery shopping. She is just gettin' too old to go anywhere by herself anymore. But I just made some bread and sweets, so why don't you come in here and join me. Then you can tell your old mother why you two chose to leave such excitement for our little water tower town."

Ethan nodded and pulled Heather gently behind him. As they walked into the kitchen they were greeted by the smell of freshly baked, hot bread. Also hanging in the air was the smell of sweet homemade caramel candy. It was a familiar smell to him, and a smell he loved. It brought back fond memories of his childhood. He smiled warmly and looked around. His mother leaned against a counter and looking at them both.

"So dear, what is all this moving excitement about? And why so suddenly? It was aweful cruel makin' your ma wait a month to hear this news."

"Well..."

Ethan began, shifting his gaze to Heather. He looked her in the eyes, questioning weather she wanted to tell her or if she wanted him to.

Heather had a feeling that she was going to enjoy spending time with his mother, she was just the cutest thing she had ever seen! Maybe it was the pregnancy talking or all those years writing for a woman's magazine but something about her made Heather want to do all she did and more...Maybe that was her perfectionist air talking though...Either way, Heather gladly followed as he pulled her along into the kitchen, the smells hitting her long before they probably hit Ethan. They were amazing to say the least, both a jab at her cooking skill and a welcoming treat in her mind...She was definitely going to ask her for cooking lessons some time soon.

As they walked she couldn't help but think about how ironic it was the Ethan was an accident baby for his parents as theirs was for them. Maybe fate was playing with them on this one...either way, knowing that she felt like she had a little advantage over Ethan's father, knowing that he wasn't so perfect would make it easier for her to handle anything he threw their way. When his mother asked about the sudden move the both of them seemed to freeze, Ethan more than herself. She had come to terms a bit quicker than she thought she would and was not gladly defending her pregnancy from anyone who deemed it a shame.

This also made it so she was eager to tell others. However, she knew better than to blurt it out straight when it came to their parents. She didn't want anything bad to happen like sudden fainting spells that her mother seemed to get when big news hit. When Ethan looked to her, asking if she wanted to do it with his gaze alone, she gave only a small nod of her head before looking back at Mrs, McCoy.

"Mrs. McCoy...The reason we had a sudden move was because...Well, I suppose you could say that we are in a similar situation that you and your husband where when you were having Ethan." She said with a small nervous smile, her free hand going to her stomach out of habit.

His mother's eyes instantly lit up and she pushed away from the counter in excitement. She instantly came over, closer to the couple.

"Your going to have a baby!!" she laughed in excitement.

She came over and ruffled Ethan's hair, before leaning down and giving him a kiss on the top of the head.

"My little boy is going to be a daddy! Just wait till your Pa hears about this!"

Ethan laughed a bit nervously before his mother turned to Heather. offering her something to eat. Just as she did, the door creaked open and slid shut. There were heavy footsteps as someone entered the house.

"Anne!" a voice called from the living room. It was his father.

"In the kitchen Dear!" his mother called excitedly.

A few moments later a man walked into the kitchen, about the same height as Ethan, maybe a bit taller. He had reddish brown hair, somewhat greying, and dark brown eyes. Dressed in a short sleeved button up shirt and jeans, loose on him he looked at Ethan, suprised.

"Son...your home."

Ethan nodded and smiled a bit, he motioned to Heather.

"Yeah...I've decided to move back here with the girl I've told you and Ma about. This is Heather..."

His father smiled a bit.

"Good To finally meet you Miss. Heather. Glad my son here finally had the sense to come home for a change."

He looked to Ethan.

"So...What has changed the mind of my city bound boy? This is quite...different from New York."

Heather couldn't help but feel relieved that Mrs. McCoy was so excited for them, it was like a weight was lifted from her shoulders now. One parent down, three to go. At the offer of food she quickly accepted. She had lost her breakfast on the road after all and she was starting to get hungry once again...This time she'd watch how much she would eat.

Before she could get the food though she heard the sound of heavy foot steps and turned to see a tall man whom she assumed to be Ethan's father. She could see the resemblance a bit in them though Ethan did have his mother's hair. She smiled politely at him as he greeted her, he seemed to be rather nice for someone who seemed like such a traditionalist.

"It's a pleasure to meet you Mr. McCoy." She said simply, looking to Ethan out of the corner of her eye.

She may have had the guts to tell his mother but she did not have the guts to face his father. She would leave it to Ethan to drop the news on him, she'll just sit back and let his mother feed her the food...

He sighed as he saw his mother begin to bury Heather in her home cooking and that left him to tell his father.

"Well..."

He mother glanced over every now and then giving him an excited smile then turned her attention back to Heather.

"Heather and I kind of took after you and Ma when you had me...Heather is...Pregnant."

He swallowed the lump in his throat. His father's expression was priceless as he congradulated Heather, then proceeded to pull Ethan from the Kitchen by the collar of his shirt.

Heather could just tell from the look of things that Mr. McCoy was not completely content with the news as he gave her a quick congrats before dragging his son away. She only prayed that she wouldn't have a dead boyfriend by the time his father was done with him. Until then, she let Mrs. McCoy feed her, her hunger suddenly taking over. She allowed herself to take a seat at the table as his mother fed her, eating slowly as the woman placed sweets of all kinds in front of her.

Heather found herself strangely silent now that she was without Ethan in his parent's house. Though his mother was more than kind and happy she still wasn't used to it all that much. She grew up loved and cared for by her parents but her mother was no baker and her father was as white collar as can be. She looked up at Mrs. McCoy and smiled a little as she ate some of the candy, it was hard not to smile when it tasted so good.

"You're a wonderful cook Mrs. McCoy...I've been to a lot of high end candy shops and these caramels put all of their stuff to shame." She said as she took another.

She Smiled happily.

"Thank you Heather. I've had practice over the years, besides nothin' beats home cookin'."

She grinned.

"Just let me know if there is anything you need. Or if you'd like something besides sweets."

-Back in the back room-

He brought him back into a room, audibly shutting the door. His eye narrowed a bit and Ethan laughed a bit nervously.

"What do you think your doin' boy? Gettin' her pregnant like that? You had better be prepared for this cause the next 19 years are going to be the craziest thing you'll ever go though. I"m going to beat you if you don't have a job..."

"Dad...I have a job and we've rented out a place. She has a job as well...We are going to give the child the best life we can. I"m not going to beg from you or ask you to do me any favors besides making Her feel welcome..."

His father sighed, exasperated.

"I just don't know how many times I told you, marry the woman first but since this has come...I will make her feel welcome, and if you don't care for your family, her and the baby then you will be finding her and my grand baby will be the only one's welcomed by this family."

With that he turned and walked out of the room, he followed him back out to the kitchen where he stood against the wall. His father went over and greeted her more properly this time. Ethan remained silent and thought through his father's words. The more he watched Heather get along with his parents, the more he wanted to take care of her for the rest of his life. Now...if he could survive telling his sister and two brothers....

"Well actually..." Heather started as a small craving kicked in. She felt bad for asking but she read that fighting a craving would only come back to haunt her later. "If you have anything salty I'd really appreciate it...I'm been craving it since after we got into town." She admitted with a shy smile.

When the two men came back into the room she felt a little relived to find that her boyfriend was unharmed, though silent. She didn't have much time to think on that though as his father approached and greeted her more properly. His parents were treating her so kindly, his mother feeding her as his father chatted with her. It really was different from her city parents. She didn't mind though, it was a welcoming change from city lights and fancy restaurants. On that though, she remembered the truck and turned to Ethan.

Ethan turned to look at her as three more people flood into the kitchen. One was as tall as Ethan but had reddish Brown hair and grey eyes. He was dressed much like Mr. McCoy. The other guy was shorter then him and had dark brown hair with dark Brown eyes. And the there was a girl. She had reddish brown hair down to mid-back and stormy grey eyes. They all looked to be around the ages of eighteen. As they approached Mr. McCoy he motioned back to Ethan and they all turned. The girl got an excited look on her face.

"Ethan!"

She went over and hugged him and smiled.

"What you doing home?"

The boys greeted him in similar fashion before he motioned to Heather.

"This is My Girlfriend Heather that mom has probably been tellin' ya about. Heather...These are my siblings."

They all came over to her, greeting her.

(Sorry It's Short..x.x DOing this before school)

Before she could mention the truck three more people wandered into the kitchen. They all were mixes of their parents and seemed to be the age of eighteen. She smiled a bit as they turned to see their elder brother, all of them greeting him excitedly. It was at times like this that she wished she had siblings to tell the good news too, however, she knew better than that. Her parents would find it difficult to raise two children, one of the reasons her mother had her tubes tied when she was four. She was not mad at them though, at the time they both worked full jobs to make ends meet and to make sure she lived comfortably, and mother was getting on in age as well so they didn't need any surprises to throw them off.

As they came over to greet her she said hello to each on individually, rather impressed that kids their age were so polite and well mannered. In New York the boys would have their pants to their knees and the girl would be wearing far to revealing clothing. Another reason why she left the city for Colorado. She didn't mention the baby to these guys either, that was Ethan' duty once again. She also wasn't certain how they would react to the news.

(It's alright, I'm typing before school as well XD)

Ethan knew that she would want him to tell them, so he looked over at his sister.

"Beth, come here."

She looked at Heather and reluctantly got up from her seat, going over to Ethan. Ethan leaned over and whisperd in her ear.

"As my sister I thought I'd tell you first, before Jackson and Alden, Heather and I are going to Have A baby..."

She looked at him excitedly and went over to Heather. Beth smiled happily.

"Is it true?"

As she said this, Alden and Jackson looked over at her, blinking, looking questiongly.
