I don't understand how you cannot possibly have sympathy for those of your group - whether it be race, sexuality, gender, class, anything - that suffer because they are part of that group. I'm a lesbian, and though I was incredibly lucky to have such a loving and supportive family, many other LGBT people are not so lucky. 40% of homeless youth in the United States identify as LGBT. It's an epidemic. Likewise, I haven't been assaulted or murdered just for being a lesbian, but many LGBT people have been. I have incredible empathy for them. I would never, ever deny that this is an incredible problem, that people have to endure simply because they are LGBT. It's something that needs to be acknowledged, brought to light, and fought against.
I genuinely don't understand your mindset.
