TL;DR
> Questions the mayor about what the favor is..
_____________________________________
After explaining the situation to the Mayor as to what the Apostles were after, the sudden appearance and speaking of yet another Apostle that Zayne was unfamiliar with decided to make herself known as she only emphasized the situation about the thief who had stolen the relic. Keeping his gaze upon the woman, the azure haired male was sure she did not travel with the group earlier; though the fact the woman was an Apostle as well at least meant she was trustworthy enough.
Awaiting for the Mayor's response to everything, Zayne only shifted his gaze at his surroundings only to take close notice of the guards as even if they were attempting not to pay any mind to the conversation, they were clearly showing some bit of interest while trying to hide it. Finding this rather humorous, he did not speak up about it but was taken off guard at the sudden distant voice of the Apostle's rather large companion; Sorod from the exterior of the building.

Turning his head from one side to the other as to figure out which part of the building Sorod was at; once the Mayor spoke up yet again, Zayne returned his attention onto the dwarf with a raised brow about information he currently already had as to where the thief had ran off towards to begin with as well as the favor he asked of the Apostles for further information.

The strange woman was rather quick to respond to this as she apparently agreed to the favor by her own hands. Zayne on the other hand was right about to make his own response when the unexpected sensation of someone approaching behind him had caught his attention. It was one of the others from their group, a small white haired female who introduced herself as Sorenthath. She asked Zayne to speak for her before only giving a slow nod and patting the top of her head.
"As our companion here has stated, sir. Depending on the favor that is requested of us, it will determine if any of us are willing to take part in your favor. Although we are here on a mission, we still have our own oaths we must stand by and depending on what you ask of us...It may not be something some of us if not all of us are willing to comply to."

TooLongDidn'tRead: Sorod enters the Mayor's House, and gets serious.

His arrival clearly didn't got accepted by most people, fortunately the guards were understanding enough to offer their services of cleaning him. Caked in the grooves of his armor, dirt clumps and muddy blots followed his wake like a trail of breadcrumbs. It isn't easy, absorbing the scene of a dirty metal giant walking through the streets with a sizable shield and a large spear, heading towards the building occupied by the local figurehead. When Giles came out from out of the blue, Sorod turned to look down, taking him a few moments to process the words that just left the cowboy's mouth. In most cases, metaphors and analogies fly over his head, and this is one of those cases.

"So-Companion Giles, you are alive and well-Rod. So-That is wonderful-Rod. So-I have not tracked anything, and I haven't entered the house yet-Rod."

Nodding, he'll let the guards splash their water on him without complaint, because being clean is, based on his observations, an important factor when it comes to interacting with others. He had the intention of having his fellow Apostles clean him, but since the guards were nice enough to offer their hand, he didn't stop them. It probably took more than just a few minutes to remove the hardened clods of mud, and leaving tracks of muddied footprints will certainly 'track mud in the house' now.

"So-You have my gratitude, fellow sentries-Rod. So-I shall enter now-Rod."

He waddled inside and tried as much as he can to not bump into anything that looked weaker than him, which means going through the hallways were very tedious and annoying because he's strong. Finally coming upon the collection of Apostles and the Mayor, he rumbled a chuckle and laid his knuckles on his hips, his shaking causing some flakes of filth to rain down on the pristine floor.

"So-My companions, it seems you are all well-Rod. So-Greetings, you must be the Mr. Mayor, your walls are very nice-Rod. So-This town is built in a glorious manner, I am enjoying the domain you rule-Rod. So-It is protected, but you placed the gate wrong-Rod. So-It would be better to place it facing where the Skyfire rises from, so your Guardians are warmed with every morning-Rod."

In one of the rare moments of him speaking more than a sentence per instance, Sorod made sure to praise the Mayor for the beauty the golem has come to adore around him. But it seems their discussions right now less about complimenting how amazing the world is, and more focusing on their quest to find the thief who stole the item he had guarded for centuries. This immediately switched him from the airy demeanor he had, to something more formal, with his back straightening and the moaning souls in his chest-hole diminishing to barely audible whispers.

"So-The Quarry we have been entrusted to follow and destroy, to retrieve the treasure I guarded for time uncountable-Rod. So-Questioning of miners and mines shall be left to my companions, I alone will suffice for whatever favor you ask of us Apostles, Mr. Mayor-Rod. So-My spear shall penetrate, and my shield will preserve-Rod. So-We must accomplish this quest, so I may place the imbecile-criminal under my foot, to crush-Rod. So-Oh, I apologize, I am Sorod-Rod. So-The Guardian of the Abbey-Rod."

His presence solidified with each word that left his mouthless face, and the grip he had on his hips tightened, grinding and scratching the metal against each other. The leftover battle scars he had visibly started to heal with the shifting of his mood, though the scratches left behind by The Rat Lord proved too deep to heal this soon, so some gashes on his chest are left, glowing a faint brown that disappeared moments later. Though, his less-than-gentle bearing broke after remembering his rude entry. When entering a "house", always introduce yourself and greet the host or master! He did the greeting part first, so now he needs to introduce himself! He heaved a bow, raining even more dirt onto the floor with each move he makes.

TL;DR: Knell is kinda peeved they were outed that quickly, but nonetheless listens to the mayor's request well sensing something fishy is afoot. Also plots to steal and poke around the town for more information since there can't be just nothing on that strange person, right?

Knell couldn't help but stiffen as the others pretty much outed them all, eyes glittering coldly as she gazed at Valeria with a heavy frown underneath her shadowing hood. "You sure that's wise? I mean..." she mumbled, sort of a bit too quietly for anyone to hear unless they somehow had sharper ears than her, but she just sighed before shaking her head, glancing at the mayor. While she certainly did not agree with how aggressive Valeria was in her wording, she did agree that their mission needed to be completed and completed as best as they could. ...Perhaps not with the thief's head, thanks. She knew that pain all too well.

Her blue eyes narrowed as she stared at the dwarf mayor, her fists tightening at his words concerning that strange individual and a favor. "...Hm...nothing, you say?" she asked monotonously, words spoken slowly and carefully, "Why, indeed, would that person be down in such a dark place, without valuables or even mining tools? Interesting...but I suppose it cannot be helped." I wonder, magic to cloak whatever items that person is holding? Or...they took something of great value already and do not want to say? her mind wondered, a heavy frown still etched on her face, If that is the case...perhaps we need to investigate it. Whatever this mayor is hiding...and if it's something of value, might as well take a look, right? Her mind was already plotting escape routes and potential problems should they ever try to steal from this town's vault, though she hardly even knew if it was right in the mayor's house that had the proof or not. In any case, she had to wait and see.

"Ah...well, I suppose we can do this...favor. We are Apostles, it is our duty to help, no matter what." Her sigh was audible as she uncrossed her arms and cracked her fingers. "Now then, what is that favor? Do tell, Mayor, we want to help as best as we can..." Her eyes flickered to the giant that just walked in, Sorod, her frown disappearing into a small smile. "...Well, can't go alone, right? No one should really be alone...so I can gladly go with you if need be," she offered before glancing back at the mayor.

TL;DR: Stella was curious of what Valeria said but didn't pry. Agreeing to Zayne, she voiced her opinion on wanting to join in with Knell and Sorod to help with the favor.

Stella was quiet, listening in on the conversation that began to unfold, but soon realized the new member in the group was speaking to the mayor, and afterwards going closer to whisper something to him. She was curious as to what Valeria had said to the mayor, but she couldn't really pry. Her attention turned over to Zayne, who had once again answered in a polite manner to the Mayor, and agreed with a nod to what Zayne had said. Stella knew that in order to be able to properly figure out what was happening to the theif and the mines, they needed a certain amount of trust from the Mayor, and what better way than to help them out with a favor.

Sorod's entrance made Stella smile, his appearance seemed like a big puppy who had ran away halfway through a bath, bringing mud around with him. She listened to Knell and Sorod, and didn't hesitate before she raised her hand. "I will go too. To do the favor that is." She was super interested in Sorod and Knell, and would love to start to get to know them. "May I come along?" she asked the two, turning to face them.

The Mayor's Hall

The old dwarf mayor sniffed and sipped again from his glass without heeding Valeria's caution. Despite ignoring the warning, the dwarf did seem to be in better spirits. The corners of his eyes crinkled pleasantly and he spoke with more warmth than before.

"It's good to know you are willing to listen. We may be able to come to an arrangement of sorts after all. I would like this matter to not be openly talked about beyond this hall. Taruhm's mine is its life blood and the largest reason for the town's existance. Disruptions to the mine could negatively impact the people and our ability to trade.

Shortly after the stranger left town, monsters started appearing in the mines and attacking our workers. For awhile, an escort of guards was sufficient in driving off trouble, however, the numbers of beasts and their strength have grown. We have stretched our resources just containing the problem and keeping casualties at a minimum..."

The mayor took a hardy drink and sigh heavily.

"I would like you Apostles to resolve the matter for us. It's not uncommon for monsters to occasionally appear in our mines, but what is going on is not normal. Find the cause and take care of it so our men can get back to work. It's bad enough we have to fend off attacks from the outside semi-regularly. If we had some of those creatures escape the mines while our backs were turned, it would be a disaster."

After taking another drink, Granite Taruhm reminded the Apostles of why they should take his request for help,

"If you can solve our mine problem for us, I have additional information to share about the stranger, as well as a way you may be able to catch up to them."

With the presumed compliance of a least some of the Apostles, the mayor would then call to the closed door.

"Get Toby in here!"

Some short moments later, a man with dark hair and similar build and gate as the messengers stepped into the room.

"Sir?"

"Take the Apostles to the mine entrance. They have clearence to enter. Answer any additional questions they have. I'm counting on your descretion and efficiency, Toby."

"As you say, Sir. Please follow me everyone,"

Toby said with a somber voice and indifferent tone. Despite his precise movements and presence, his eyes seemed distant. Toby would lead those who followed out of the Mayor's home and down a street further into the mountain. They passed more sentries and found a few standing watch by a closed off entrance that had a massive and heavy metal door in front.

"The Apostles are to be allowed into the mine. See that they are properly outfitted for the task,"

Toby spoke with authority and the guards moved to begin the process of opening the metal door while a couple others started gathering lights for the apostles to use inside should they have need.

The Tavern

Those in the tavern would have a pleasant afternoon. Undisturbed, they would have each others' company and the occasional stares of those that had come to gawk at the Apostles that had helped saved the town the other night.

TLDR:
- Althea races off to the tavern to retrieve her equipment
- She tells those at the tavern to meet the group at the mines

Althea bows politely to the mayor as the group follows Toby out of the manor. Upon hearing about leaving directly towards the mountain, a stark realization hit the Magi.

I forgot my bag back at the tavern!

Upon hearing about meeting a noble, Althea thought it was rude to bring all of her belongings along into the meeting, but now that the group was off to slay some more monsters, she was in dire need of her equipment. Walking alongside Zayne, Althea tugs on his coat to get his attention.

"
I need to stop by the tavern to get my supplies. I'll meet everyone at the mine later!"

Once the message was given, Althea took off into a sprint down the streets of Taruhm towards the tavern. Once there, she stopped to notice a group of pedestrians eyeing some people at the bar, which just so happened to be Llawr talking to the dark elf she had seen earlier. After going upstairs and coming back down with her massive backpack, Althea approached the couple and hopped into the conversation whenever she could.

"Hello again, Llawr! I just wanted to let you know that we're all going to the mines to do some... extra work."

Althea looked around to make sure no one was within earshot of the conversation, since the Mayor didn't want word of this spreading around.

"
Meet us there whenever you can!"

Althea looked to the dark elf and smiled.

"I don't believe we've met, but pleasantries will have to wait until later. Until we meet again!"

Now, with all of her equiment at the ready, Althea took off towards the base of the mountain, where the mine (and hopefully her allies) were waiting.

diana is a lil scared but shakes it off, is sick but dont care. goes to cave and greets Althea

Diana, who had come to her senses a little, tuned into the main conversation taking place in the large room. But what the dwarf said disturbed her. The dark troubled her. She had mostly gotten over this fear in her youth because of its silliness- simply because it is dark does not mean the monsters under your bed double. But as an apostle... things were different. It was especially alarming because her fear of the dark was not irrational this time. Who knows what kind of bloodthirsty monster could be lurking in those shadows.

The ginger quickly shook her head twice as if shaking the notion of fear from her head. It was still difficult to grasp that she had the power to defeat the monsters that the orphanage caretakers had told her about when she was growing up. It was only recently that she had been able to brush off feeling inferior to mere humans. She convinced herself that doubting her power was like doubting the Chaos itself, and that would not do.

So the energized red-head stood significantly taller as if doing so defeated the fear that troubled her so seconds earlier. She then coughed and sneezed at the same time before quickly wiping her nose with her left-hand sleeve.

~~

Diana arrived at the cave, awkwardly sniffling and holding up a lantern so she could see. The first person she noticed at the entrance was Althea. She knew almost nothing about the girl other than that she was one of the apostles shorter than herself. Diana decided that that amount of information is not at all sufficient and walked up to the nurse to say hello.

"Hello! I'm not sure we've been acquainted yet. I'm Diana," she said with a grin.

Tl;DR: Ren is uneasy and says that something fishy is going on
Finally, Sorod arrived, but moving now would draw attention to her. So she let Sorod make some good points about the job and what exactly they were doing.

Why were there monsters in the mines? That seemed off, somehow. Ren thought about it, but soon acquired a headache. Ah, she'd be happy to kill a bunch of monsters. This all was annoying. She wasn't good at the Big Thoughts.

Then she heard the mayor summon a Toby and waved them off on their mission. Once out of the manor, Ren tugged on Zayne's sleeve.

"Di-discretion. That's... why would he need to be... discrrreeeeettt. That's uh, secret, right? If the whole town is around the mine, wouldn't they know about the monsters?" Ren asked. "I think we need to be careful. I feel like we might get Big Hurt."

Something was off about this. Ren wasn't sure if that was right, but she shouldn't take the Mayer at face value. For one, they barely knew him. For two, he was a Villager. And Villagers always feared the unknown. The scars on her back made that reminder permanent. Never trust a Villager.

TLDR:
  • Lilirel stays silent during the discussion with the Mayor.
  • She returns the plate to the tavern before making her way to the mines to join the rest.

YY53pcY.png

After introducing herself, Lilirel quickly grew silent. All the other Apostles that joined seemed to be doing a great job at explaining the situation to the dwarf before them. Questions were asked, vague answers were received. Lily agreed with certain ways things were explained and disagreed with others. As long as the message was clear in the end, how they got there wasn't important, although the brute found herself shooting slightly confused and curious glances towards some party members.

Eventually the Apostles had been dragged into a quest by the Mayor, although it didn't appear to require the attendance of every party-member. Despite that, everyone seemed to be tagging along on this mission. The matter seemed rather serious, or at least the mayor had made it seem so. In truth, Lilirel felt that their group was rather large for a mining expedition, then again, these caves could potentially be enormous and require all the manpower they could muster. Silently she told herself that she would join, she'd stay back and keep a keen eye out, but she would make her way to the mines with the rest of the Apostles.

And that she did, following even behind Sorod, Lilirel had made a quick detour to the tavern to return the plate she had lugged along for the whole discussion with Mayor Taruhm. She was in and out of the tavern rather quickly. Slowly, Lily chose to strut through the city and make her way to the mines.

> Questions Toby at the entrance of the mines.
_____________________________________
With the agreement to assist the Mayor of the city with whatever his favor was in return for further information about the thief, being told that the favor had to do with exterminating monsters from the mines of the city had only brought further questions that Zayne hadn't spoken out immediately. Not only did the Apostles just deal with a storm of enemies right outside of the city walls but there were monsters in the mines on the interior of the city as well; this brought both confusion as well as concern to the blue haired male as the old dwarf called for an escort to lead the group to the mines, soon enough, another male had entered the room to guide the Apostles that were present to head to the mines.

Following after this man, Zayne kept silent most of the way as he pondered on the possible reasons as to how monsters appeared in the mines and just how the city was holding them back with simply the guards of the city alone.

It wasn't till the sudden tug at his at his sleeve that had caught Zayne's attention first as he found it to be Althea stating that she needed to grab supplies from the tavern before meeting the rest of the Apostles at the mines. "Ah, alright we'll be--" Right as he spoke a mere few words, the woman was already off on her way while he continued to follow after the messenger.
Before he could even so much as react to the idea that Althea was in such a rush to go grab her own gear; yet another tug at his sleeve caught Zayne's attention only to find that it was Ren this time. She questioned him about practically the same thing that wandered his head currently; he had lived here for quite some time in the past and never once did the old man at the café mention about monsters being in the mines let alone the city's guards taking care of them every time. Something was off.

"No need to worry little one...Let us simply take care of these monsters and be on our way." With that, he placed his hand upon her head just to pat at it gently before focusing on his gaze forward.

By the time he had reached the entrance to the mines, Zayne directed his eyes between the mines dark entrance as well as the guards who handed each of the Apostles torches to light the way. Taking hold of one of the torches, he took the opportunity to question their guide. "Hey...Toby, was it? You've lived here for quite some time haven't you? How far do these mines go in and just how long have you guys been mining into this mountain here?"

TLDR:
-Giles slips in late and doesn't hear much of the missio
-Giles arrives to the mine, and asks knell what the hap is going on

Giles had slipped in late and did not catch much of the conversation. However, he did manage to hear something about 'The Mines'. "Another side job eh?" He mumbled. He gave a small groan, Giles thought they would be leaving after the rat man raid, but it seems the city asked for even more of their assistance. Though, if the other Apostles had accepted the quest maybe it was because it was beneficial to their original assignment? He shook off his thoughts and followed the others, perhaps he could ask someone for more details.

————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————

Along with all the other Apostles, Giles arrived at the entrance to the mine. At first glance, it seemed to be quite cramped and dank, much to his dismay. He had traveled through caves before, but never something like this. Whilst he waited to be lead into the mines, he looked around for someone to talk to and his eyes fell upon a party member he'd known as Knell.

Giles didn't think he had ever talked to her before, plus he knew almost nothing about them aside from their name. But, they were in the Mayor's office during the quest briefing, so they probably knew what was going on.

Without haste, Giles walked over to her and tapped on their shoulder, "Pssst, y'name's Knell is it?" Giles whispered, he didn't wait for an answer before continuing, "So uh, what're we doin' in this mine?".

TooLongDidn'tRead: Sorod is talking to people, he is socializing. Yay.

"So-Knell and Stella, your offers are appreciated-Rod! So-Come, let us participate in this quest, to accomplish our own-Rod."

Nodding his head slowly, Sorod accepted their words with a thoughtful... Expression, though he doesn't have the face to show it. His posture, he tilts his upwards slightly and runs his metal fingers against his smooth helm where a chin should be. This is a mannerism he obtained from watching some of the folks in The Abbey, they usually took poses like this when they're in deep thought. They, being the older and wiser Apostles that wanted to study his physique and his build more. Though, The Abbot told them off, saying they need to ask for Sorod's consent first before doing any "tests". He ultimately didn't mind, he somewhat liked the attention they gave him, but he abstained and instead chose to go in a journey. The retrieval of the treasure be guarded is paramount. Seeing that the rest of the Apostles and Mr. Mayor have come to terms with this little side activity, Sorod is the first to turn his back and leave. Of course, he'll creak another bow before leaving, because he needs to be classy in a setting like this.

Following this guide that got assigned to them, Sorod stared hard at Toby, wondering how someone so lanky could have authority over stronger-looking guards. Then again, some of his companions are also small in frame, though their power is greater than any commoner. Before they went though, he made certain to bring the bag he was tasked to carry; it contained the basic necessities for the others, of course. With things seemingly ready to commence again, he trailed behind the group again, dragging a line of dirt with his spear. The same as before.

Though, this time with more companions with him! During the walk though, discomfort welled up inside him, and the more thinking he did, it just kept getting bigger. He... Didn't like the idea of having something as heavy as dirt and stone be placed right above him. The likes of wood, marble, and cobblestone he could let pass; the way they're used in structures, he know they can be easily destroyed with some effort. But in a mine, he'd need to be careful. The slightest mishap could send tons upon tons of solid matter to crush him; though he prides his defense, he doesn't believe he can defend against the onslaught of a mountain or cave. At least, not yet. To stray from his thoughts, he turned to the new companion that he had yet to interact with. She seems familiar, he's certainly seen her, but her name escapes him. Instead, he has nickname for her too, same as The Red Lady.

"So-Stoneface, when did you arrive-Rod? So-Did you come to punish the wrongdoer who stole the relic as well-Rod? So-My Quarry is mine to kill, please do not deny me of this-Rod."

He spoke to Valeria lightly, watching his words to make sure he didn't make a mistake. One other thing he knows her for is her ability to fight, although he's absolutely certain she's inferior to him with the shield, he had some doubts for his skill with the spear. The opinions of others he doesn't view significant are usually tossed aside, but he believes her to be qualified for "significance". He'd interact with her just before they arrived at the mine, where he'll quickly turn silent. Why? He's hesitating, on whether or not he should enter.

TL;DR: Knell is more than happy to help and contemplates the figure that was in the mines. Also gets very annoyed by Giles, hoo boy she's not happy explaining.

Knell couldn't help but give a wry smile as she nodded. "Of course, I look forward to it," she answered to his reply as she glanced over at Stella, "And your help would be appreciated. ...I don't want this fellow Apostle to be alone, despite him being a 'golem' of sorts." Her smile grew. "And if anything, I think we'd make a good team." Her gaze flickered back to the mayor as she gave a curt nod. "So yes, we will gladly help. Do lead the way, then." She waited a little as the mayor instructed this Toby figure to lead them out before following him out the door, cloak swishing slightly from the movement. Her expression turned serious as she followed, intent on getting to the bottom of these events. The more they discovered about this strange person that was possibly connected to the mine incident...then perhaps their mission would end sooner. But...if they could summon monsters...there was no doubt in her mind that they would be able to wreck havoc and need to be stopped at all costs.

Knell was pretty much lost in her thoughts, the former thief turned Apostle just moving at a leisurely pace while the group moved onward to the mine. Already her thoughts were in overdrive over the identity of the person with nothing on them. It was clear they could possibly manipulate Chaos quite well, but she wasn't entirely sure just how bad they could be. For all they knew, the person could be either pretty powerful or quite shrewd, she hadn't a clue. Just...it was weird, they had nothing, yet monsters appeared shortly after they left. Were they evil? Or misguided? Hopefully the latter but in this world, it was probably the former. How troublesome, but there wasn't much they could do until they found that person. And considering how powerful everyone else was...they would definitely stand a chance. Unless they were able to pull something from their sleeve...which was never fun.

"Hm..." She was snapped out of her thoughts as she heard her name being called. "Yes-?" She stared at Giles, dumbfounded by his words, just staring open mouthed with eyes wide. Her expression became somewhat indignant and very cold as she let out a sigh. "A little work for the mayor..." she huffed, crossing her arms as she eyed him critically, "Basically, there was someone strange found in these mines that provide for the town...they had nothing on them, yet when they left, the mine was filled with monsters. We are here to clear them out...and then perhaps we can learn about this strange person. ...Why weren't you here for that? Surely you were with us for the explanation, right? Or were you not paying attention?" Her voice was dripping with slowly simmering anger as she glared, blue eyes just boring straight into the man as she eyed him. For a moment, she forgot to move, trying discern why the heck he knew nothing of their side mission.

TLDR: Agreed to investigate the mines, briefly spoke to Sorod and asked Toby a question on the sighted creatures.

Valeria eyed the drink in the Mayor's hand but she said nothing more on the matter. Instead she stood back on steady feet and absorbed the information. A brow lifted at the mention of creatures spotted in the mines, a swell of excitement spread in her chest at the news. She spoke with benevolent calm "It would be of no small matter to us, ensuring the mines are clear of these creatures you speak of. In exchange for information, of course." she turned at the entrance of Toby.

She thought little of the man before her, his purpose served itself when she asked a question as they traveled to the mine. "Tell me Toby. What creatures dwell in these mines? And what is your opinion on the matter...such frequencies must be unusual as the Mayor suggested they did not appear so often until the rats cantered inside, and bred their filth in the mines you so hold dear."

No matter the answer her attention shifted to the appearance of the mines, she had only ventured into one before. To be restricted in her movement was a test to her skill. She had taken to the front, her quick strides naturally placed her at the front. Briefly Sorod took her attention.

Unlike the others, his appearance was no event to her. But she did shift at the nickname 'Stone face' if she had humor, she might have been amused. "Then we are at an impasse. I too desire the death of the ilk. If you do believe I will relieve that pleasure to anyone. You have not been paying attention." She stated lightheartedly, but the look in her eyes was nothing more than hollow.

As they approached the entrance, the metal doors entered her vision. She took a torch from the guard and entered the mine. The Darkness engulfed her, as the light torchlight bleed around her body.

TLDR: Jeremiah goes to the mines and thinks about bringing down the mines on the monsters.

'Hmm, so maybe the Mayor wasn't about to hurt us' was the first thought that ran through Jeremiah's head. Then again, the dwarven man wanted them to..take care of things for them. Then again, they were uniquely situated to take care of multiple situations, and the town was treating them like heroes. Fine, he would help out. Besides, he was probably the person most qualified to cause a cave in- not that he had before, but it could be useful to consider if they wanted to apprehend the thief or just outright kill them, saving them a lot of trouble. Fortunately for him, all he had to do was politely bid the Mayor goodbye and follow the group, as all of his things were on his person.

As Diana had left him behind, he slid next to Sorod, wanting to learn more about him, even if the other Apostle with the surprisingly harsh view was with him. Frankly, there was something going on that they clearly didn't know about, but then again, he wasn't the thinking type. "Maybe we should gain information, before we kill this thief. It could be anyone. Maybe we could learn something new. Maybe they stole the cup because it would mean their family would live. IT doesn't help that you're arguing over whether to murder someone as if you are two children fighting over a toy." It just felt so...rigid to just off and kill the thief like that. Stealing from the Abbot was a crime in his eyes, but there was always something lying under the surface. Besides, the death was necessary, but they were making light of it by trying to call dibs on who got to kill the thief.

"Sorod, maybe you should guard the door. If the thief tries to leave, you could be here to stop them." Jeremiah suggested, not sure if the creature could fit through the door. "I'll go in with Valeria, but if you want company, I could stay behind with you. If you decide to stay. I would not want to make the decision for you." If Sorod wanted to go in, then he would go in. If not, then he would wait with Sorod outside.

Tl;DR: Ren doesn't like leaving Sorod all alone, and thinks that maybe she can get out of going into the mine because she doesn't like the tight space, but will still go in if asked
The pats on the head were not the reaction she wanted. She figured that he was suspicious, too, but instead she was brushed off. they didn't even know what monsters were inside this mine. As they waited for Toby's reply, Ren started to poke around the entrance to the mine. She looked for track of claw marks, any indication of a fight or scuffle.

However, she was quickly distracted by the sound of Sorod offering to go inside.

"No! Little Space is too small for Sorod! Might make it all Shakey Shakey. Could put up ice to stop it, but cannot do forever."

Jeremiah offered to have Sorod sit outside on watch.

"But we shouldn't leave him all alone, either. What if the mystery Thing gets around him? Then he'd have to chase, but he is not very... Chase.... like."

Even if Jeremiah was there, she was worried. What about other entrances? Was that all of them? Did people really fit in that space? She didn't like it, but she could be a Good and do as she was told to do and kill the monsters. Yes, this was just... a little battlefield. Yes. She wasn't scared.

TL;DR - Payne considers over the mayors request, takes a dip in the river, and heads to the mine.

Payne thought on the Mayor's request. Slaying monsters in the mines. Payne was unsure.

Why were they unable to it on their own? They knew the mines better than a group of complete strangers. They had certainly dealt with local monsters before. And though not to the degree of strength among the followers of the Way, there were some formidable fighters among the locals.

And... Payne wasn't sure how he felt about going underground. Far away from water, for who knows how long...

They had their duties. They needed to find the thief. More than anything, he knew that.

Payne walked his way out of the town, down to the river. He would spend some time recuperating his transformation. Soon after that, Payne made his way toward the mine.

TL;DR- Labra has been sleeping in a bag since she fell asleep after meeting the Dwarf Mayor Dude and she woke up, gave random names to people, briefly talked to Althea, then ran into the cave and began collecting some poisonous flowers. Now she can make a new potion...Yay.

Labra popped her head out of the bag Sorod was carrying and looked around, her horns momentarily getting caught on the edge of the bag. Rock, rock, rock, the star girl, healer girl, scary lady with the purple hair, lady with the red hair, the cowboy, energetic ice-girl, fire-lady, other people I don't wanna give names to 'cause I totally didn't forget their names... She softly laughed to herself and climbed out of the bag she had been sleeping in. She dropped down, briefly activating her racial skill, Wingless Flight. It slowed her drop and let her land safely on the ground next to the healer girl and the lady with the red hair. She twitched at the small drop in her energy and sighed before turning to the healer.

"Hi! I'm Labra!" She exclaimed. "The Abbot dude sent me to join you guys and I just woke up from my nap. I know what's happening with the monsters in the caves, but I fell asleep after meeting the dwarf dude who's name I am totally forgetting. What happened after I fell asleep?" She asked the healer, tilting her head up to see the other mage's face. She tilted her head at how some people were staying at the tavern and thought about going back to join them but decided to stay on the thought of all the plants and mushrooms she could gather in the mines. Yay, more things to make potions with! "Alright. Thanks for telling me! See ya!" The small Moon Imp turned around and skipped up to the front of the group, where everyone was being handed torches. She glanced at the man with the mustache that wasn't part of the group and wasn't a guard and muttered a quiet hello and she squeezed past his legs. She completely ignored the guy handing out the torches and skipped past, since she was too small to carry one effectively.

She instead followed the lady in the pretty lady in the silver-y clothes into the mine, looking around for mushrooms and other plants that only grew in dark places where light rarely touched the soil. She spotted a cluster of odd plants and went over to inspect them. She crouched down, shook her sleeves back, and started to gather a few of them, looking them over and identifying them as Shadow Flowers, which were really poisonous. She silently cheered at her luck and softly started to hum an old lullaby as she gathered them.

The Mine

"I have completed my service. I would have you direct your questions at the mine's foreman. He'll be guiding the party the rest of the way,"

Toby replied with a slight bow and a hand gesture toward the foreman who stepped forward. A dwarf like the Mayor of the town, he was more youthful and hardy but had a similar cunning look to his eyes. Like a prospector of people as well as stone, the foreman made sure to get a look at everyone before he flipped on the light in his helmet.

"Follow me everyone. We have a ways to go and I can take your questions on the ride..."

the foreman led the party into the entry chamber. In addition to their torches, the massive chamber was also lit by several other flaming sconces that gave off a soft purple. A massive tunnel led off from the main chamber at the far end of the entry cave, however, the foreman led the group to a series of minekarts. Rails littered the first chamber like a train yard. While the foreman took the lead in the first car, the rest of the party were encouraged to enter the train of cars behind the lead. It would be up to them how they divided themselves up. About 4 normal sized individuals could fit in a normal car with the larger of the group fitting 1 or 2 per car. Once everyone was in, they were off. Powered by unknown mechanisms, the train of karts hiccuped forward, occasionally clanking into each other, until they got into a good rhythm that had them humming along on the rails at a quick pace.

As they passed through the tunnel and left various other tunnels and openings behind, the party was able to get a view of a massive interior. Illuminated by a soft purple and occasional green and blue, the mine came to life with a shimmer and a sparkle. The foreman spoke up as they went, calling out loud enough to be heard over the rattle of knock of the karts and mine,

"This, here, mine has been in use for probably close to a century now. Every time we think the mountain range has given up her last, we find another vein. We harvest all manner of stone and precious metals from within this hollowed halls!"

"The mine goes in and down for miles. We use mine karts to quickly travel back and forth between the various branches and the entrance!"

After the last, he pulled a lever and the kart train proceeded down a different rail that had them spiraling deeper into the mine.

"Up till recently, the most common monster down here was a slime, giant bat, or other oversized vermin. Nothing too bad. However, lately, them monsters been kinda scarce. Instead we've been running into the undead. Would think they were former miners and the like, but they aint no body I know. Armed and trained, they be more like an undead legion or somethin'!"

As the party continued to zoom deeper into the mine, those with prescience as a priority would be able to note the scars of battle on the walls, corpse remains, and get the sense they were getting close to their destination (those with prescience as their best will not have the same insights nor the ability to prepare). Passing through a few dark overhangs and out onto rails that were supported over a large chasm, the party would hear the dwarf curse as he quickly put his hand on a lever and torqued it hard. It was too little, too late.

The section of rail just before the other side of the chasm was missing. Unable to stop, the cart and all her passengers went flying off the tracks in a shower of sparks before smashing into the other side. The train had been broken into its individual karts and several were too damaged to be used properly again. The tracks on this side of the chasm were all disheveled and equally unusable. Those with Prescience as their highest would be the first up as they were the most prepared for the collision before it happened. Those with Resilience as their highest would be the next to rise, being sturdy enough to withstand the impact and keep going. The rest would likely sustain injuries, but nothing serious assuming they didn't fall into the chasm...

The dwarf foreman lay ahead of the party on the ground, unmoving. Illuminated by his helm and what torches still remained from the party, he was not alone. Coming from the shadows into the light were several shambling creatures with malicious intent apparent.

TLDR:
  • Lilirel follows along into the mines silently.
  • She finds the cart ride painfully loud.
  • After being ejected from her minecart she lands on Valeria, possibly damaging her armour due to her thiccnes.
  • Is currently aware of her scraped palms and bleeding lower lip.
  • She gets ready to fight but can't find her sword after bouncing on the ground and instead gets ready for a fist fight.

YY53pcY.png

Lilirel's attention had been elsewhere as she walked along behind her group. She had been distracted enough that it wasn't until the loud, hard THUNK against heavy and cold metal brought her back to the situation at hand. Her nose ached, warm breath leaving a momentary haze over whatever part of Sorod she had walked into. Rubbing her nose, she peeked around the golem and listened to the words being spoken. Taking the lantern she was offered, Lilirel held it low, by her leg. Her eyes only took a moment to adjust to the darkness that surrounded them, the Aasimar deciding it was best to pay some attention now. She followed along from the same position, perhaps just a little off to the side this time around, trying to avoid walking into anyone should her attention wander off again.

Thankfully Lily wouldn't be given enough time to get lost in thoughts. Climbing into one of the carts she looked around the cave. It didn't seem like she needed to say much as they lurched forward and started making their way through the cave systems. The loudness bouncing off the jagged stone walls was grating, Lilirel holding back her wince as she clenched her jaw and tried to focus on the dwarf's words. Typical cave critters were mentioned, although the real threat seemed to be the sudden appearance of an undead legion, as the foreman called it. The words had been enough to cause Lilirel to quirk a brow.

As she turned to the man ahead to ask a question, she flinched against the squealing sound of grinding metal, the sight of sparks flying everywhere also wasn't very comforting. "…shit…" she muttered under her breath as she felt the cart fly through the air. The ground coming up faster than expected, Lily trying her best to prepare for the collision. Slamming hard against the ground she half bounced; a subtle, metallic groan following as she landed upon something that was colder than the dirt, but softer than the ground. Exhaling heavily with a small grunt to voice her annoyance Lilirel opened her eyes and shook her head with a sigh. She could see the ground beneath her as she blinked rapidly, to rid herself of the colourful spots clouding her vision. Her palms felt tender and warm, scraped most likely she thought to herself. The inside of her lower lip was also bleeding, she could taste it. Rolling over onto her back she let the full force of her weight drop flat with another deep sigh.

Staring at the ceiling with steady breaths, Lilirel swallowed back and took a moment to let the ringing in her ears subside. "Glad to have hit ground," she looked around as she slowly sat up. "that chasm looks like a long drop." She glanced towards the cliff. The shuffling sounds of movement catching her attention as she whipped her head around. Her gaze caught something approaching; creatures of some sorts. Placing tender palms against the ground, she was quick to pull back up as confusion came across her features. "What in the–" Looking down, beneath where her palm had just been, Lilirel saw pale colours and soft fabrics covering a small, round bottom. Turning to her right she spotted the dark hair and pale skin. The demoness' cheeks were quick to burn red for a moment as she scrambled to get up off the form beneath her. "My apologies." She spoke simply, with a small bow of her head as she stepped over the woman casually. Standing between her and the approaching hoard Lily reached for her sword, only to grab at nothing. Her jaw clenched tightly, eyes narrowing and growing dark as she scanned her current field of view, she wasn't having much luck spotting her weapon. Closing her fists tightly she took a fighting stance. "They're just a barely held together skeletons, right?" She muttered to herself as she watched the shambling corpses approach. Armour-clad…of course…She thought to herself.
