Post Listening:
The Mayor's Hall
The old dwarf mayor sniffed and sipped again from his glass without heeding Valeria's caution. Despite ignoring the warning, the dwarf did seem to be in better spirits. The corners of his eyes crinkled pleasantly and he spoke with more warmth than before.
"It's good to know you are willing to listen. We may be able to come to an arrangement of sorts after all. I would like this matter to not be openly talked about beyond this hall. Taruhm's mine is its life blood and the largest reason for the town's existance. Disruptions to the mine could negatively impact the people and our ability to trade.
Shortly after the stranger left town, monsters started appearing in the mines and attacking our workers. For awhile, an escort of guards was sufficient in driving off trouble, however, the numbers of beasts and their strength have grown. We have stretched our resources just containing the problem and keeping casualties at a minimum..."
The mayor took a hardy drink and sigh heavily.
"I would like you Apostles to resolve the matter for us. It's not uncommon for monsters to occasionally appear in our mines, but what is going on is not normal. Find the cause and take care of it so our men can get back to work. It's bad enough we have to fend off attacks from the outside semi-regularly. If we had some of those creatures escape the mines while our backs were turned, it would be a disaster."
After taking another drink, Granite Taruhm reminded the Apostles of why they should take his request for help,
"If you can solve our mine problem for us, I have additional information to share about the stranger, as well as a way you may be able to catch up to them."
With the presumed compliance of a least some of the Apostles, the mayor would then call to the closed door.
"Get Toby in here!"
Some short moments later, a man with dark hair and similar build and gate as the messengers stepped into the room.
"Sir?"
"Take the Apostles to the mine entrance. They have clearence to enter. Answer any additional questions they have. I'm counting on your descretion and efficiency, Toby."
"As you say, Sir. Please follow me everyone,"
Toby said with a somber voice and indifferent tone. Despite his precise movements and presence, his eyes seemed distant. Toby would lead those who followed out of the Mayor's home and down a street further into the mountain. They passed more sentries and found a few standing watch by a closed off entrance that had a massive and heavy metal door in front.
"The Apostles are to be allowed into the mine. See that they are properly outfitted for the task,"
Toby spoke with authority and the guards moved to begin the process of opening the metal door while a couple others started gathering lights for the apostles to use inside should they have need.
The Tavern
Those in the tavern would have a pleasant afternoon. Undisturbed, they would have each others' company and the occasional stares of those that had come to gawk at the Apostles that had helped saved the town the other night.
