How Does all of this Work?!

Alright, ready for the thing that'll scare you the most? It's the manual! Where mostly everything about the Rp's mechanics are written down. But, before you run off, let me just say this:

The hardest part of the RP is probably going to be filling our your Character Sheet. The only times you'll be rolling dice will be when you create a character and when you try to hit an enemy. Finally: the GM does most of the work by keeping records of things that change a lot in the discord.

Anyway, if you have any questions, feel free to ask me. Though I'll point you back to these posts if it's already written down, so please consider taking a quick look through them too!

At this Moment, First Wave Signups Have Opened. At some point, the actual OOC will be opened however Character Sheets can be Ok'd within this thread (they'll just get moved over there later). Signups will automatically cut off on April 14th. Barring anyone who hasn't gotten their Sheet Ok'd and negating any pending Extra Items that might be in progress.

Not though, that the IC can start as early as this upcoming weekend depending on the progress of the majority of signups.




Kenno Matsuri Manual

This Section Details out just how the Rp's Mechanics play out. If you have any questions, be sure to consult this Manual before asking the GM. This manual was written so that the GM would have this made-from-scratch system generally figured out. Can be subject to edits and addtions as deemed necessary as the RP runs on.

Flow of Story

The Rp goes between two types of general scenarios as it progresses. For the purpouses of making it clear, it can be said that the Rp's progression is divided between Out of Battle Chapters and In Battle Chapters.

Out of Battle Chapter


This is when the RP is engaged in story and in character interaction. What's notable about this phase is that Timeskips can be used by the GM to move things forward for story purposes or in the event things slow down. While a good amount of detail and work goes into the Rp's 'Battle System' engaging in endless battles is supposed be secondary to actually having the story progress and have characters interact, develop, and grow from their experiences.

In Battle Chapter


This begins the moment a battle is begun in the IC. This is notable as in the Discord, the Character Status Page will begin to keep track of character Endurance Points, as well as the opposing party's makeup (and Endurance points if applicable) for record. When in Battle player characters must use their Techs in order to defeat the enemy party.

The In-Battle Chapter ends when the Foe or Group of Foes are defeated, or when the Player Party is Defeated or if the Active Players of a Battle Retreat. The outcome of a battle directly effects how the story unfolds, either putting your characters in an In Story Advantage or Disadvantage. As for Retreat, that mechanic will be detailed further on.

(1v1) Collaborations - Personal Actions


(Note: it is required to go through the Personal Action Tutorial by initiating one with the Gm. See: signups for more details)


A collab between just 2 players. Personal asides supposedly occur during lulls in the story when the party is relaxing or traveling from location to location. The goal or intent of running personal actions is in order to develop relationships between characters. Personal Collabs must have at least 4 good exchanges between the two participants to be valid. Each time one is completed, the Affinity Level between the characters increases. At Higher Affinity, the two can unlock a Compound Tech Arte.At Max Affinity, the two players unlock a support skill, that they can use to assist each other in battles.

Note that Collabs also have a bit of a Limit too. Each Level off affinity, (Therefore each Personal Action available) is tied to how far the party has traveled. Typically, each time the party stops to rest at a location such as a town is when a new Personal Action possibility becomes available. That helps set the background for where they are and what's on their minds at that point. Collabs do not directly affect the plot, as they only happen to occur during periods of downtime - but you're still encourage to continue participating in the Main IC while running your asides... on the side.

You can still aim to increase your affinity with each player! Note that each level of affinity generally reflects how well they know each other, but doesn't necessarily mean that they're falling in love, that's up for the two players to decide on their own! But Please Keep it all PG-13!

Everything in regards to personal actions is kept in the discord under aachen_affinity. Please use the Discord in order to organize and ask people if they want to accept a personal action out of good courtesey.

(1vX) Collaborations - Group Asides


Group asides are a way to positively affect your Upgrade Point Gain. Unlike Personal Actions, Collabs have 3+ people involved. What they can be is much more broader - it can be them investigating something on the side or just having an interesting or fun conversation with each other.

As with any Collab, there must be 4 good exchanges between all the participants involved. It's recommended to also let the GM know if you run such a collab if it is something that may affect your participation in the main IC, or is something that is meant to compliment current events in the IC as opposed to being just a fun conversation. This is just helpful to the Gm.

As always, use the discord to organize group asides.


Discord Chat - Skits


No one knows the exact reason, but Tsubaha seems to talk to herself a whole lot.

Skits are optional chats that are available in the discord. They are another type of aside which characters supposedly have a chat or commentary on events, locations, or just to make someone the butt of the skit. Skits are a lot easier to run than collabs.

Skits are available in the discord under kenno_skits. A skit is open to reply until the GM posts (Closed) on the skit thread, GM reserves right to close at their discretion. As incentive, skits are also a convenient way to gain character titles provided you entertain the Gm enough with your antics.

You can also gain a single upgrade point per month by initiating a skit. This is done by PMing the Gm in discord to have them set it up.

Aachen Rizen 'Start Menu'

The start menu is the place where important information can be seen at a glance. The start menu kept up to date within the Rp's Discord in a special channel. More about the Start Menu and it's useful information and records are detailed below.

Discord Platform


If you're not aware of it, Discord is a Free Webchat that people use to communicate with one another. In the context of Rping it's a great way to have an OOC that's easily accessible! Joining this RP's Discord is mandatory, as along with important communication, character records are also kept logged by Ehb on the Discord for easy access and editing!

The Discord Link for this RP is given to players whom complete their character sheets. Please keep this in mind!

Character Entry

On the Discord, an Entry Called 'startmenu_kenno' Serves as the RP's literal start menu. Here Ehb records your character's basic data such as their name, their associated Titles, what Tech they have and their mastery levels, and so on.

Character Titles


Character titles are fun little things that your character can earn in Ehb Rps. When your character does something major or the like, your character may receive a title that is considered fitting from the GM's perspective. Sometimes, on rare occasion, your character may recive a Costume Title which when equipped, will change your character's appearance in the story. Allowing for shenanigans to ensue.

Note that equipping of a title costume must be done by requesting it to the GM. Who will update the Character's Start Menu Entry to reflect it until they wish for it to be removed.

The most Common way Ehb gives out costume titles is being a Returning Player, sort of a Loyalty Bonus that'll allow your character to cosplay as your previous incarnation!

Upgrade Points


Upgrade points are used to advance a character's Tech Mastery, Purchase Tech Extensions, or to increase their Endurance Points to make them tougher in battle.

Upgrade points are calculated on a month by month basis. Each month, Ehb counts the amount of Posts you made. For every 4 posts made in that month a player's associated character gains a single upgrade point which they can spend as they like (this number is based on the minimum posting requirement of once per week),

Another way to get Upgrade Points is to post a collaboration post. As long as the Collab has more than 4 rounds (ie. Each Participant submits a collab portion at least 4 times) then each collab participant meeting this requirement will get a single Upgrade Point.

-Upgrade Points are not rewarded for defeating foes within In Battle Chapters, to keep the system simple, and to make the system encourage more posting in general.

-All of the above can be subject to change if it becomes apparent that rebalancing is needed. I'll be sure to announce my intention to rebalance beforehand in the Discord.





Festival of Swords Mechanics

This RP begins with a special set of mechanics of the Festival of Swords. Leading to extra things worth being recorded and detailed out for each character.

Bells


The Sword Festival gave each participant a single small metal bell that could be thought of as being attatched to a small linen wristband. Participants were encouraged to defeat other participants to claim their bells. The person with the most bells would be declared Swordmaster.

However, going around gathering as many bells as possible was only something that only the particularly hardy even considered. For most, the aim was to posess the 3 Bells needed to have their wish granted. In particular, Criminals who entered the tournament wishing to be forgiven for their crimes were desperate for this.

Bells are kept track of in your character's start menu entry. While everyone ICly recieved a single bell at the start of the festival, a certain event causes all of the player characters to lose their bells.

The story can be completed without each character gaining all three bells. Though players who achieve this will get a title for their effort.

Player characters cannot steal bells from other characters. Bells are primarily earned by defeating bellholding parties in the festival. Though a player character can challange another player character to a duel for each other's bells. Provided they both agree to fight.

The Wish


The wish is what your character desires to have granted upon having the three bells gathered. Without spoiling anything, this part mostly exists to give your character a purpouse and drive at the start of the RP. Whether they happen to be a noble seeking wealth or fame, or a prisoner desperate for freedom.




Battle Mechanics

In a nutshell, Endurance Points are analogous to Hit Points, and Tech is the only means to defeat opponents during an In Battle Chapter, as you'll have to reduce the Endurance Points of Each foe to zero. Let's start by going over Endurance Points and Tech, as well as how to upgrade them.

Endurance Points (EP)


If these drop to zero a character is incapacitated and can no longer perform any tech, and is thus unable to win the fight on their own. If your entire party loses all of their Endurance points, they lose the battle, which will likley negatively affect the in character story segment after.

Upgrading Endurance Points


It only takes 2 Upgrade Points to upgrade your character's Endurance Points by one. This'll help your character stay in the fight for longer.

When Your Character is 5 or more Endurance Points higher than the next highest character, then they will be regarded as Tanking. Instead of being guaranteed an Endurance Point Upgrade, there's a 50% chance that the upgrade can fail (you will be asked to roll for the upgrade). This is done to discourage people from investing soley on upgrading Endurance Points.

Also note! Major bosses will have their HP generally based on the amount of EP the party has in total so please try to update your techs too!

As always, one must use the DISCORD to inform Ehb of any upgrades a player wishes to make for their character. The changes will not be active until after Ehb edits in those changes into the start menu.

Tech


The tech system is basically straight up derived from the Artes system of the Tales Series for each class. Your characters each start off with 4 different tech 'trees' that can be upgraded into powerful
combos as detailed below.

Each tech can also have your character's elemental affinity applied to it. Which can be useful when you use it against a foe who happens to be weak against it. However, there's also a possibility the foe may be resistant against it, which can make even a sucessful strike null and void! Be sure to balance out your Tech trees with Non-Elemental Force Techs as well!

The highest form of Tech is the Mythic Tech, which requires you to have a 'Cut in' sprite for your character, as it represents them using their one of their ultimate moves.


Basic Tech

This is the most basic form of tech. When successful it inflicts a single point of Endurance Damage to
the attacked foe.

Character Sheet Example:
Cross Fang (Base Tech - Force) - Draw ones blades upward to strike a foe into the air, then stab forward by crossing one's swords. This is a more basic form of Triple Fang.



Arkane Tech Extension

This is the intermediate stage of tech executed after the basic tech when successful. This inflicts two points of endurance damage to the attacked foe.

Character Sheet Example:
Wailing Fang Rush (Arkane Extension - Force) - Throws a foe into the air with a hurricaine of sword slashes. The foe lands upon crossed blades, before they are struck by one massive cross slash.


Mythic Tech Extension
The highest stage of tech executed after the Arkane extention if successful. This inflicts three points of damage to a foe.

Character Sheet Example:
Noble Vanquisher (Mythic Extension - Force) - The user sends the foe skyward with a huge kick. Jumping after them, the user impales both swords into the foe right after they smash back into the ground.


Compound Tech
Another variant of the Mythic Tech Extension that is executed by two characters whom reach a certain level of affinity with one another. Deals 6 points of damage to a foe in a unified strike.

Upgrading Tech


As always, one must use the DISCORD to inform Ehb of any upgrades a player wishes to make for their character. The changes will not be active until after Ehb edits in those changes into the start menu.

Tech is upgraded by spending upgrade points (UP) earned to upgrade a Tech. The progression is as follows:


Base Tech (Availible to Character From Start)

Level 1 - Available From Start
1/3 Chance of Inflicting 1 Damage

Level 2 - 1 UP
1/2 Chance of Inflicting 1 Damage

Level 3 - 2 UP
Guaranteed 1 Damage Infliction

Upgrading your Tech allows you to unlock extentions which can allow your character to inflict more damage! As seen below!



Arkane Tech (Availible When Base Tech is Level 1)

Level 1 - 2 UP
1/3 Chance of Inflicting 2 Damage

Level 2 - 3 UP
1/2 Chance of Inflicting 2 Damage

Level 3 - 4 UP
Guaranteed 2 Damage Infliction


Mythic Tech (Availible when Arkane Tech is at Level 1)

Unlock - 4 UP
1/2 Chance of Inflicting 3 Damage.

Using Tech


Your characters will need to use their techs in order to defeat foes and successfully resolve battles. In order to keep things somewhat ordered there is a particular format for using tech. This is generally how it goes.

General Guideline

1) [ Write Your IC Post up to the Point that Your Character uses their Tech ]
2) [ Write: " [ Character_Name Used Tech_Name (LV #) ! ] " ]
3) [ Roll A Dice, Correlating to the Level of Your Used Tech: ]

Level 1 - Roll a Three Sided Die, The Tech Is Successful if it lands on 1 .
Level 2 - Roll a Two Sided Die, The Tech Is Successful if it lands on 1.
Level 3 - The Tech Will Always Land When Used. (We'll go over this later)

4) [ Write the rest of the post based upon the success or non-success of that roll. I personally like to blatantly put [ It Failed! ] or [ Roll Sucessful! ] to make the outcome super clear.]


Remember after using a tech tree to execute an attack, you MUST use the three other techs before using that same attack again. ( Please don't try to sidestep this, as if you're caught Ehb will have to come up with a way to punish people. )


What if My Tech is Level 3?


If your tech is at level 3 it will always connect. Which means you can omit rolling the die, assuming you don't have the next extention unlocked. You Still Need to state the attack when you use it, however. Ie. [ Write: Character_Name Used Tech_Name (LV 3) ! ]


What if my character has a tech extension unlocked?

When you have an extension unlocked, most likley an arkane extention, your character will go in sequence through the tech tree. Assuming the base Tech is already mastered, your character would use that first, and THEN they would perform the first extention, and roll it if necessary.

Some Characters performed certain special actions in order to unlock the third extension (mythic early). Note that in that situation, you can ONLY attempt to roll the third extension IF THE TECHS PROCEEDING THE EXTENSIONS WERE ALSO SUCCESSFUL.


Does my character fail to inflict any damage if they fail an extension, but passed on the previous rolls?

The extensions only add damage. Damage you did inflict leading up to the failed extension will still go through - but it would be like your character missed or massed up trying to extend their attack.

Remember that:
Base Tech - Inflicts 1 Damage
Arkane Tech - Inflicts 2 Damage
Mythic Tech - Inflicts 3 Damage

So a fully successful tech chain of all three makes your character's max damage as 6 Points! This can be taken even further by taking advantage of Assist Skills and Compound Techs that are availible by increasing your characters' affinity with other characters! (see Personal Actions)


Can I chain an extention from a different tech tree?

No, your character must perform attacks soley from the tree that the Base Tech Inhabits. This is done so that characters wouldn't spam the same techs over and over again.


Can I Refrain from Using an available Extension?
Yes, that is acceptable.


Do Mythic Techs REQUIRE Cut Ins?

Yes. One of the Unfair Things I Require is that Mythic Techs must have a Character Cut In available for when it is successfully executed. You don't necessarily have to post it every time it's sucessful in the Ic however.

Cut ins are 100 x 400 pixels in size.
While you require at least one, you don't need to have a unique one for each mythic tech. Though brownie points if you choose to do so.

Foes

When the Rp goes from an Out of Battle to an In Battle Chapter, the Discord's kenno_battlelens Thread records the information of the foes opposing the party, such as their Endurance Points as well as whatever tech they may use on you. The GM keeps it updated roughly each time they post, do bear in mind the posts before your own when you take action!

(Note that Your Own EP and will be kept recorded in startmenu_kenno)

Mob Enemies


Mob enemies are lesser foes such as common wild animals or other beings that the party is considered over-leveled against. They won't even have their Endurance Points Recorded as they are incapacitated by a single successful hit.

A Mob Foe will likley get recorded like this in the start menu:

Tough Enemies


When a foe has more than a single Endurance point they, for the purpouses of classification are considered Tough Enemies. When the Party gets into a fight with an important named character or against another player chartacter will most often be a Tough Enemy.

A Tough Enemy will likely be recorded like this in the start menu:

Tail Strike (Force) - LV 1

Retreat


In the event a character does not wish to fight a battle, or if the outcome looks grim, then a player character can choose to retreat. This is useful, as it can prevent the implicated negative IC consequences of having been incapacitated in battle. Active players in the battle can choose to carry on like normal, however a player that has retreated will no longer have an effect on the outcome of the fight. Additionally, since the RP is very group based, they won't necessarily escape into safety from whatever outcome may come of the battle.

One simple must announce their retreat ICly. Their Character Status for the battle in the discord will be updated to reflect that.


-Great Grandmother's Charm
A charm adorned by willow seeds, it's traditionally been given to Mori young to ensure safety and protection by the ancestors. This particular one supposedly came from the Willows of Haschou Village, in the old homeland.

In character, this is a charm worn by Tsubaha. As a mechanic, this charm represents a promise that whatever happens in the RP things will turn out alright. At least until a certain point. At that time, the Charm will break, and so will that promise come to an end.

Cooking:Rumiko is unsurprisingly or perhaps surprisingly a good cook with a gentle hand in the kitchen, mostly preferring soups, fish and vegetable based dishes.


Fighting: Enjoys a good fight or even mortal combat with high stakes, while something of a friendly person Rumiko is quick to believe most problems can be solved by punching them.

Donations:While a person who lives away from the world, food and travel cost money and needs to be given by kind souls. Normally offering fortune readings, spiritual services, cleansing of spirits or extermination of dangerous beings free of charge. Rumiko tends to remember who gives generously and who does not.

Dislikes:
Corrupt People: Be they rapists, slavers, corrupt officials, gang leaders, snobs, nobles or the rich. Rumiko will not hesitate to speak up against them. Those who remain unrepentant or a grave threat, she will readily meet in combat. Not giving quarter she is very unforgiving of those who are evil in her eyes. Currently some Shang Officials are on that list for her imprisonment as a betting proxy for the Tournament for what was a somewhat minor charge.

Vengeance: While Rumiko is one who will stop others in the name of the Greater Good, she does not hold Grudges against the rank and file personnel or people of a particular cultural, national or ethnic group. She sees vengeance as one smoldering ember against another, while threats should be removed, one who sets out on Vengeance alone digs two graves.

Spicy food: While able to cook it, Rumiko herself does not eat spicy foods, stating that they give her reflux trouble. Considering it to be bad for Chi, some alcohol can find it's self in this lineup short of wine or sake.

Quirks:
Thrifty: While some may see this as a virtue, the Priestess goes out of her way for sales or haggles for prices not accepting the face offer. She also is surprisingly stingy with some possessions and drives a hard barging in selling items.

Inherent Preacher: Treats her religion as a matter of great importance in day to day and will openly speak about it to any interested parties in hopes of converts.

Short attention span: Rumiko doesn't care about lengthy stories or protocol, making no secret in this fact, she has little problems with staring spaced out at the speaker or moving off to fiddle with whatever takes her interest in the local area.

Fears:
Rumiko against some better judgement keeps a diary full of key events of her life rather than a daily record. Among it's pages, and even in the knowledge of a few officials, the Priestess has a rather shady past that includes things from murder of bandits to a couple dine and dashes and more than a few insults to people she's had long term dealings with.

While seemingly an assistant in meditations and letting things go, the fact she killed her father on the behalf of the Sect dotes her pages as well as references to needing to kill an older brother named Seto, seemingly both are bandit highwaymen, or in the case of one was, while she doesn't seem to purposely track the sibling down she has made notes that his crimes were unforgivable, with the bounty posted on his head their may be some merit to her printed words.


Wish:
Funds and land to construct a Grand Shrine and village for Tousawa refugees. Immunity for future assault cases within Shang Borders.


Most Embarrassing Moment:
Has ran into door frames or low ceiling struts a few times on peasant houses, though used to it by now it still embarrasses her time to time. Other than that she is conscious of her size in some situations.




Skill Details
Weapon: Physical Melee
Physical abilities and the use of Ki Mastery, is a martial artist first and foremost, stating the use of weapons to harm others is against her religion. Her physical endurance and power are rather daunting when taken with her size, well suited to in close fighting, she bares numerous scars from getting close and hardening her body and mind in the name of righteousness. While the lack of a weapon seems disadvantageous

Rumiko bares a body that speaks of much training and strengthening. Ki mastery is using ones latent magical talents combine with spiritual focus to produce raw energy that could be linked to a unrefined magical spell.

Techs
Style: Kousen Sect Houten Ryu
A long created divergence of a Wushu Master and Tousawa cultural philosophy, diverging into a new style with little semblance to the original.

Renowned for its use of punches, kicks, grapples and the rumored inner potential of Ki Aura, the Houten Ryu is a martial art developed along the bases of Philosophy and brutal stopping power. The Kousen sect seem intent on founding an established faith based on shrines, elemental nature spirits and ancestral worship. Forbidding the use of weapons in it's teachings, Houten Ryu senior priests and priestesses are surprisingly dangerous foes with nothing against killing. Rumiko herself is a senior priestess at her current age, though that may in part be due to the long war. Kousen Sect priests are known to be traveling preachers, monster exterminators, diviners, enactors of spiritual rites and vigilantes who rarely listen to any authority not of it's own, though in recent years the Sect's numbers have diminished and is as scattered as the various Tousawan people.

The Houten Ryu stands alongside the Shikure and Hoshino Ryu's which specialize in staff combat and spell casting respectively. The Houten Ryu takes a strong body and mind to perfect and favors the large and strong.


Rumiko fights primarily in hand-to-hand with a variety of crippling melee strikes, her grasp on magic is more limited to tuning to her internal magical energy and spiritual one called Ki. Her attacks are aimed at combo actions or powerful impacts, her large size, physical fortitude and manner of being complements the style well. Hard hitting impact or multi-angle attacks are her specialty, her body has became equal to armed and armored combatants in most respects.
"Raptor Strike" Skill Tree

Raptor Strike (LV 1 - Force)
Raptor strike is a mixed melee form based on open handed strikes and kicks, while it differs in principle on striking points it is a close battle tactic made to drop in and quickly open with a three to four hit strike to an opponent's limbs, typically in rapid succession to deflect blows with the palms or push back, as the one or two shallow kicks aim for the weaker segments of the leg.

A high speed somersault kick that starts with Rumiko kicking from a kneeling position and ending on her hands facing the reverse of where she started, the blow generates considerable force to send a target airborne.
[LOCKED] Mythic - Aural Blast

(Mythic Tech - Far)
Aural Blast (LOCKED - Force/Earth)
Summoning the Ki within her body, a form of bluish light originates around the fists or open palms of Rumiko. Blasting a target with concentrated essence, a long ranged attack that is equivalent to blast magic is possible with explosive results. It's concentrated power makes it useful on single targets, though it's range can be somewhat limited by other factors.

While able to send a foe airborne, this technique seems more useful for it's blunt damage.

While this style is not an inherently a fighting one as it was made as some form of modernization or fusion of traditional dances. It is certainly not one to take light of as the practicioner of this skill is agile and unpredictable. With also an added value of grace and beauty in the dance moves. This style main strength is that there's a lot of feint moves , and that their attacks are flashy and effectively hurts foes heavily.

Likes:
- Silk: Whether his current predictament is good or not. Saburo will be found wearing something silk. Whether it's to pretend he's of higher class or that he just likes the feeling he does not tell.
- Painting: He find's it calming. His favourite things to paint are people. Though, he find's it hard to actually get anyone to sit down and let him paint them.
- Cherry Blossoms: His mother used to go on and on about them for what felt like eternity when he was younger. So now they bring a fond nostalgia when he sees them.

Dislikes:
- The other Saburo: The whole reason he's gotten in this mess. Of course, the whole being a almost worldwide known pirate/bandit lord who has been a scourge to innocents across the coast is of course enough to dislike the guy. But now everyone think he's him!
- Fish: Saburo finds the smell of fish revolting. Nevermind the taste! That anyone could even find those digusting things appetizing is an enigma to him.

Quirks:
- Avoids eye contact: The guards at the prison and such have seemed to come to the belief that Saburo doesn't deem them worthy enough to look them in the eye. The truth is, Saburo just finds staring straight at someone awkward.
- Copies/Repeats other words: Often times when a group conversation is happening. Subaru will just fall back on repeating what the loudest person is saying. It seem's to cause the least conflict.
- Saying Huh: People would believe the Pirate lord to be stoic right? So when he feels like his cover is in danger. He just says huh until it blows over. Huh.

Fears:
- Being found out: The fact that they think he's the pirate lord, and therefore having knowledge of the location of his treasure. Is the cause of him being able to attend the tournament. If people were to find out that he wasn't, then things would not go well for him.
- Staying in prison: The few weeks he's spent in the prison has been hell enough already. The fact that if anything goes wrong he's staying in there for potentially the rest of his life is something terrifying.


Wish: What doesn't he wish for? To get his freedom, to get away from the eye of the empire. And if he's lucky, finding this supposed treasure that everyone's waiting for him to get back to.

Most Embarrassing Moment: Oh, how about going from trying to haggle the price of some rice to getting dragged through the village square by his feet. Yeah, that wasn't great.

If we're talking about a moment that wasn't him being imprisoned. He once tried to use his whip to paint, he decided to try this outside. He did make a rather striking picture, but it happened to be on his mother's favourite dresses. His brothers found that quite funny. His mother didn't.

Weapon: Whip made out of particually durable leather.

The Pirate Lord used a whip, it's fear for it's lethalness that it even got a name. Nǚ yāo. Some say the pirate lord was gifted it by the queen of the sea. Some say he plundered a demon's nest and took it from the monster's very own dead hands.

What Sabaro does know is that he got his from his mother. Mainly because he complained about having nothing to protect himself from his much older and much bigger brothers.

Style: Núlì zhēngfú ("The Whip it around and hope it hits technique")

A fighting style pioneered by the Pirate Lord Sabaro. Using some type of whip. The weapon is used to extend and further the power of the user's elemental ability. Using the whip lightning fast nature to strike at incredible speeds and strike at unpredictable times. With every crack of the whip being used to further the charge for the next attack.

This style is particularlly useful against large groups of foes at once. Because no one knows who's exactly the next one who will be struck as the weapon has a 360 degree attack. The pirate lord's Núlì zhēngfú has allowed him to take on numerous high officals at once, supposedly.

Sabaro's style seemings to be strikingly similar to the pirate lord's. Perhaps even more unpredictable. Because not even Sabaru knows where his weapon is going.

Runara Blazeheart: "Her dancing is, um, nice. Yes, nice. She's one of those people who joined this willingly with no life threatening reasons behind it. In her postition I would be a million miles away from this tournament. But good for her, I think. I'm sure her reason makes her decision somewhat sane. Did I mention her dancing is nice?"

Tsubaha Mori: "The way she moves her hands like she's always ready to start using her swords is a little concerning. But it's different then Mr.Shanks. Because I don't feel like she'll start using her swords on me! At least for now, I don't think she particularly likes the whole me being an infamous slaving pirate. But hey, what can you do? She seems skilled, and it was her idea to team up and all. So if she wants to lead me to victory, I say go ahead!"

Rumiko Mitsurugi: "W-well. She scares me, just a little bit. I saw her punch a tree in half like it was nothing! And it feels like she's twice the size of me. Which does not help the urge to have her hold and carry me when we're in danger... "

Kei Daidouji: "Where does he keep all those knives!? In his pants? It's like he never runs out of them. And I feel like having an unlimited supply of knives is a tick on the side of cons of someone's personality. Aside from the whole knives thing. He's a bit serious. I don't like the way he looks at me. Well, I don't like the way anyone looks at me with this whole pirate thing. But still, it makes me a little uncomfortable. Not that I can show it."

Black Nightingale: "That's....that's his name? Like, his actual name? Do you think when people ask how he wants his coffee he just asks what they want? *Cough* As it goes, he's a good fighter. Which is always good enough for me! As the...pirate lord....tough fighter and...all...that."

Ran Yiban: "The twin with the swords. Also easy to tell the two appart because she looks at me with just that bit more disdain for my existence then other people normally do. At least I'm convincing hohoho~.... I hate this."

Lan Yiban: "The twin with the crossbow. I don't think we've actually looked at eachother yet. Does she hate me as well? It wouldn't suprise me. She doesn't seem to be actively avoiding me, so I suppose that's a plus."

Yu Ri: "Assassin. She's an Assassin. As in kill you while you sleep Assassin. As in poison your food Assassin. As in have a journal of the names of the lives she's took Assassin. I mean, I'm quite wanted due to the things that....I....have done. So, that isn't exactly comfortable for me. That she sleeps in full gear is a little...unsettling as well. I've noticed that she seems to mutter angry things under her breath when she looks at Runara. Don't tell me we have a Racist Assassin in our group!?"

Yuan Liwei: "He keeps calling me bro and asking how I 'made it'. What does that even mean!? I'm sure he's nice and everything. But he keeps talking about how he wished he could be as good a bandit as me. I don't want anyone as good as a bandit as me in a fifty mile radius!"

Utashou Hokoa: "I like her. She's kind and supportive. B-but, has, er, no one filled her in on my situation? Someone as kind as her would be against....me, right? Maybe she's just super forgiving. Or can see to someone's inner character! Though if the latter is true, one would hope she doesn't go telling everybody about it."

Rizen "Aww man. He starting asking so many questions and he was so ethuasatic about it that I panicked and started talking about painting. I think he took it for some deep metaphor about life and stuff. Which, I guess you could take every painting as. So...success?"

Noriko Amagawa: "He's friendly, kinda annoyingly so. Like those people who are friendly for the sake of it. Also, he keeps bringing fish back from his breaks. Then the camp smells like those digusting creatures the entire night."

Haruki Rinko: "Apparently I have been a threat to his family's buisness for years. Oh well. There's bound to be more like him who I've pissed off somehow."

Tsubaki Hanejima: "The quiet person who's some sort of bodyguard for Runara. But doesn't exactly seem to be getting paid. So, what's her reason for joining this tournament!? She doesn't even seem to be fully commited to, you know, winning it! "

Likes:
Freedom: Having most of his life being told to do things and how to do them, Kei loves the idea of being finally free to figure out who he is outside of what he has been instructed to do. Kei has never really ever gotten the chance to be a kid, so nobody actually knows what he'll do if he ever gets his freedom.

Songbirds: If he could find the time, he used to whistle back and forth with songbirds outside the window. The older servants would let him get away with it for hours. Kei still does this, albeit unconsciously. The guards often tell him to shut up and stop whistling. He loves mockingbirds the most, as they tend to try to sing with him more than other birds.

Big Green, Grassy Fields: He's read about them, but hasn't had the time to actually visit them. It was one of his vows that he'd actually go see one if he ever got out of prison. He secretly is looking forward to it more than being a free man again.

Dislikes:
Disloyalty: Kei values loyalty, but he hates those who betray him more than anything else. Once a very open book, Kei tends to put up a front of indifference and sarcasm. He trusts people very little now, but would secretly support people to the best of his ability if he liked them enough.

Snow: Kei was usually inside when it snowed, and loved watching it. He never really got the chance to play in it, but he really wanted to play with the other children. He would try to offer the servants a chance at a snowball fight, but was frequently turned down. The Crown Prince once told him to have a snowball fight, but Kei was locked outside for hours while the Crown Prince threw snow at Kei off the Prince's balcony. Kei later fell seriously ill and henceforth disliked snow.

Quirks:
Whistling Fighter: When in a good mood or in an easy fight, Kei will whistle. He doesn't do any particular tune, just whatever tune he makes up in his head. He won't even notice he's whistling either. He also sometimes does this while doing menial tasks, but those are usually prompted by hearing a songbird in the distance.

Wrist Rubbing: While in the employ of the royal family, he was expected to wear metal bracers on his wrists under his clothes. These were meant both as protection, and a reminder how he was in servitude. It didn't bother him until he had them removed when he went to prison. Sometimes, he'll adjust wrist bracers that aren't there.

Pacing: When in small rooms, Kei usually paces them. The first few times it's to map out how much space he has. The rest is to deal with the small room. Kei finds them unnerving, and if there's nowhere to hide, leaves him too vulnerable. The guards to his cell say there's a worn path in his cell from Kei's pacing it every day for four years.

Fears:
Extremely Small Spaces: After getting locked in a closet by accident as a child, Kei has found himself unable to sit still in small rooms or even able to comfortably move himself to be in a small room. It's gotten better with his 4 year jail time, but Kei will still pace in order to know the space and maximize it. It soothes the fear that he won't be able to escape it or move.

Wish:
To return to his liege's side, the Crown Prince of Shang, and kill him. Without going back to jail, naturally.


Most Embarrassing Moment:
While training to learn to use his knives effectively, he once threw the knife so hard that it bounced off the target, ricocheted off a branch, and finally nailed Kei between the eyes with the hilt of the knife. The force of it actually knocked him out.

Basic knives that are easily thrown or can be used in combat. While martial arts are most of his fighting style, supplementing his fists with knives for defense and distance balance his weaknesses out. He doesn't have any attachment to his knives, though the one he has the most often is unnamed. He refuses to use it on anyone, leaving the implcation that this specific knife is meant for his revenge.

This style is favored by those working in noble circles. It uses a small concealable knife with martial techniques. The focus on martial techniques allow the user to swiftly deal with close enemies, and the use of knives allow for distance as they are often thrown in conjunction. Fists are usually enhanced with some form of element, but as it's dependent on the individual, no two styles are the same. This is to prevent knowledge of the technique from becoming common knowledge.

Kei tends to prefer going for a more graceful, yet still aggressive style. He was taught the basics, but as per the rules of the style, he was left to find ways to apply the techniques. Anyone who recognizes the base style will know him to be a highly ranked servant.

Tsubaha Mori- "Mmm. Her. Tsubaha isn't someone I want to get along with. Yeah she's nice and a good ally to have, but she's also a noble and part of the Wushu house. Nobles don't have an empathetic bone in their body, bastard child or no. If I need to kill her, it'll be easier than others but not the easiest. Since she's the leader, I feel like following for the moment. She seems to be lucky, no point in throwing away good tools."

Rumiko Mitsurugi- "I like her. She's apparently been labeled as a criminal after punching somebody important. Also, I'm pretty sure that if I anger her she'll just punch a hole clean through my body. She's a little terrifying in that way. She's also grown on me. She seems to enjoy cooking for me, even for the others as well. It's hard to stay scared of someone offering you food. If I need to kill her, I need to use some kind of poison or leave her in a crowd of fighters. Not sure that either would still kill her though... Maybe she'd approve of what what I want to do when I get out of prison? I doubt it."

Runara Blazeheart- "She stinks of wealth, whether she has it or not. Naive. Why is she fighting? To find love? She'll either die or squeeze out a win by pretending to be cute and letting others protect her and backstabbing them at the last minute. Her dances are pretty enough, I suppose. She'll be the easiest to trick and kill if push comes to shove. Just tell her that I love her and then give her poison in some cooking. I'd feel bad for tricking her like that though, but only if she isn't actually what she acts like. Nobles can never be trusted, even if they don't have the money. It's their calling to be cruel."

Saburo Shanzhai- "Dangerous. A largely unknown foe. It would be best to be friends with him and the others he has aligned himself with for the moment. I need to ask about his stories. I haven't heard much about living on a ship, or being a pirate. Perhaps the stories will be both entertaining and informative. I hope it wouldn't be too much of a bother if I ask. He'll either be the trickiest to kill or the hardest. I don't know enough about the man to make a decision. That alone causes me to hesitate on the others."

Black Nightingale- "That's not a name. I think his name is Haru something or other. Wants to prove himself, but I don't see the point. He's plenty strong. He sleeps anywhere carelessly, and I figure the best way to go about killing him if push comes to shove is to use that to my advantage. He's so indifferent and careless though, I feel like he'll end up getting killed in battle."

Ran Yiban- "One of the twins. I get the vibe that she hates me. I'm not entirely sure why, but maybe my demeanor is off putting? I haven't done anything yet though. Other than that she seems... nice. I suppose. I shouldn't trust them, since one of them is a convict. Since the twins share food, I only need to poison one of their meals. It'd kill them both off quickly."

Lan Yiban- "One of the twins. Also dislikes me. Though for other reasons. I seriously haven't done anything to these two. I just so happen to fall into the category of people they dislike. Yu Ri- "An actual assassin. I was a bodyguard at worst, but she'll probably notice that I am putting on a brave face. Another dangerous and unknown foe. She sleeps in full gear, so killing her if I need to won't be easy if it happens. If I can even muster that much. She scares me."

Yuan Liwei- "A self-righteous jerk. It'd just take a poke at his pride and I think I could manipulate him into dying in a battle he couldn't win. A thrill-seeker, too. At least he's easy to target and see what he's up to. Man can't see beyond the length of his sword."

Utashou Hokoa- "I can take care of myself! I need her to stop do all these menial tasks. It's embarrassing and I'm trying to- ugh never mind. Either way, her fussing leaves me more tired than before I sleep. I presume that somebody betraying us -not myself- will lead to some mental breakdown for her. Then it'd be easy to... To be frank I wouldn't want to kill her. She'd owe me a favor then, is all."

Rizen- "Needs to stop calling people 'shishou'. It's demeaning. I don't want to be called 'shishou' by anyone -ever. I'm not really all that skilled enough to be called that. It feels weird when he calls me that. Like I'm being held to a standard that I can't meet. He's carefree enough that killing him in some big battle would be unnoticed."

Noriko Amagawa- "An odd guy, but... he has the same kind of presence that Yu Ri has. It's disturbing and unsettling. I'm not sure I can sleep with him around, feels like I'm gonna get a dagger in my back. He's pretty friendly though, so if I have to defend myself it could be easy. It's hard to read the guy though."

Haruki Rinko- "An interesting guy. I don't know much about him, but looks pretty straightforward. A fighter who wants to get stronger. Not exactly difficult to pin down. Also we sound so alike that I swear he is mocking me. Almost like we're the same person."

Tsubaki Hanejima- "A maid or something. Calls Runara her employer. Rich though, which is odd that she's working for someone. Maybe she's out of money? If so why work for Runara? Pacifist though. Probably could just throw her into combat and see how long it lasts her. Sooner or later, she'll understand that you can't be a pacifist forever."

Nanami Houhou- "Someone who has a very straightforward way of thinking. I'm not even sure what she did to land in jail, to be honest. She doesn't seem like the sort who belongs there. Poison on one of her cleaning cloths. She touches it enough that she'd get it on her hands and eventually touch her face or while she's eating. Simple, effective."

Likes:

The Dark: Haru loves the dark. In the dark he does not feel a need to keep up social standards and feels free to be himself. The dark is his saving grace and nighttime his favorite time of day. Consequently, he also favors dinner to any other meal of the day.

Swimming: Haru likes to swim just because its fun, especially how the water drags against his tail. He loves the refreshing feeling of diving into it and coming up and getting a breath of fresh air. Women often are not covered well when they choose to dive in which makes the experience that much better.


Dislikes:


Pink Tails: If you have a pink tail you can already count yourself out of Haru's crosshairs. He believes that pink tails are so bright they offend the eyes and its impossible to make them work with everything. He generally likes darker colors anyway so its hard for those unfortunate bright colored Dovens to compete.

Politics: He simply does not like how much of a downer mood politics place on anything. Whether that be the struggle of the races, new kings, or recent military exploits, its all not fun to hear. At least not to him.


Quirks:

Sleeps Wherever: Haru, like a cat, finds any decent spot nearby and sleeps on it when he feels tired. He doesn't need a bed, but also like a cat he doesn't care what's going on. He could be considered a narcoleptic if he didn't more frequently.


Fears:


Being Harmed in His Sleep: Haru does sleep wherever he wants so he realizes the great risk that comes with it and fears that one day he'll be looted and left for dead while he is sleeping.



Wish: To win something and prove his own worth to himself. He has no real goal which may put him at a disadvantage.


Most Embarrassing Moment: Haru sleeps anywhere, this has been well established, but the extent has not. Once he got tired while walking and decided he would just goto sleep on the road. While sleeping there, curled up in the ball that he was a caravan was passing. Not able to wake him up they literally kicked him to the curb and he ended up staring at some pretty ladies upside down.

Bird's Feather and Talon are the official names that Haru gave his weapons. The feather represents the pair of gauntlets he wears while the talon represents the boots he wears. He worked hard to attain the weapons and is why he feels they deserve a name. Before these he used a knife for god knows what reason.

Style: Flight of Bird
A style created by Black, for Black. As the brutish type of guy he can be the Flight of Bird style combines his affinity for wind, boxing knowledge and his acrobatics to create a way to punish enemies for treading on his territory. The style is meant for small weapons and hand-to-hand combat and primarily uses the legs. Most techniques are designed to get as close as possible before distancing yourself from an opponent, as running away was his main focus when thinking about how it was made.

His skill with Wind Force is there... so its incorporation with his fighting is... there. Primarily, used to throw his kicks or punches faster because that's about how he knows how to use it, to push things.

The fighter is propelled by strong winds, essentially turning themselves into a soaring arrow that slams into their opponent.

Lan Yiban: Ran likes her twin-sister, Lan. Having grown up in an environment that required them to rely on each other, Ran herself took on the role of being the reliable 'big sister'. With unconditional love, loyalty, and affection for her twin, Ran is overly protective. She'd do anything to make her better part happier.

Distinct Weather: Be it sunny and super warm, or 7 days raining, Ran loves distinct weather patterns. As long as they're, well, distinct. They paint a clear picture that she can enjoy either way. Unless, of course, the weather decides to be so-so.

Food: Ran is always on the lookout for new foodstuffs. Things that are edible, or drinkable, and she hasn't tasted before. Even if something might not look very appetizing at first, the white-haired woman samples before judging.

Dislikes:

Men: Abandoned by her father and has had to do with questionable people she took advantage of, Ran got a strong bias against the male gender in general. While not exactly a stubborn man-hater it takes definitely more effort for her trust in the genuity of men.

Alcoholics: While Ran isn't unfamiliar with drinking herself, she nonetheless dislikes people that consume such liquid without control, even if they believe to be in control. Rather than showing open displeasure, however, Ran simply silently judges them to be just some sort of organic waste.

Abusement: Ran hates abusement. While it may seem obvious that nobody likes getting abused, the white-hair has a strong enough sense of responsibility to not sit idly by if she sees such behavior taking place. Sometimes even going as far as aiding complete strangers.

Free Performances: While Ran doesn't dislike her work, she gets annoyed at people asking her to do the fire-thing, or the dance-thing, or the acrobatic-thing, or any of the other things she does for free, expecting her to simply do it thanks to the courtesy of knowing her. While she, technically, doesn't get paid as a street-performer either, it's nonetheless different than being randomly asked. The sole exception to this is, of course, Lan.


Quirks:

Food Sharing: Ran has a tendency to share most, or rather all, food with her sister and vice-versa. Sometimes even under ridiculous circumstances that could offend one or the other host.

Cuddle Partner: While for her other half it is more about 'someone' being there, Ran is so used to sleep with Lan that she will have trouble falling asleep without her. This became very apparent after Lan's imprisonment.


Fears:

Losing Lan: Ran is dependent on Lan on a very emotional level. The mere thought of losing the girl could drive Ran into doing things she wouldn't think herself capable of. If soaring to greater heights or falling into deeper pits is left to be hopefully never seen.


Lan's Disapproval: Hand in hand with losing her, getting on Lan's bad side would be just as devastating. The 'older Twin' can't even remember the last time they fought.

Submission: Ran can't deny she felt a certain sense of relief after what happened to her mother. Never again does the girl want to get into a situation where she cannot be her own woman.



Wish: Freedom and a Happy Life for her Sister


Most Embarrassing Moment:

One of her clients, while working as an escort, wanted Ran to pretend she is his little sister. Fulfilling his wishes, little did Ran know that Lan followed her out this one time to watch her work! Ever since then Lan teases her with this from time to time.

Ran is used to always have a
Big Friendly Smile on her face for most of the things she does. Even if it disgusts her. Battling opponents isn't that much different as her Big Friendly Smile will be the last thing they're going to see. Usually, the white-hair makes use of whatever she can find in combat though does carry two daggers with her.

Entering the Festival of Swords Ran also made sure to carry the biggest, most intermediating beating stick she could find. Looking like a crude-sword, the edge is worn out enough to be more of a blunt weapon than a slashing weapon for now.

Never having had a Mentor, except some suspicious travelers she talked with and getting tips, Ran doesn't follow a certain school or tradition.Instead, she trusts in her honed reflexes, trickery, Force, and strength to do the heavy lifting. It doesn't require a special combat school to know that stabbing someone in the brain probably kills them and neither does it require old-super-wise teachings to know how to kick someone off their feet.

That said, one of these suspicious travelers did give her the idea to unleash her Wind Force's full power: Lightning Force.

Likes:

Humming: Lan enjoys humming while performing boring tasks, or while troubled. Her voice is very sweet and melodious; unfortunately, she also refuses to hum as long as she's convinced someone can hear her. The only exceptions are those she's come to know and trust very well, which - at this point - is just her sister.

People: An odd thing for Lan to like, but she does legitimately enjoy company. It's as if she likes the concept of being social more than the reality of having to speak and be looked at.

Citris Fruit: Oranges most of all, though lemons, limes, and most other acidic fruits are also appealing.

New Experiences: Lan prefers trying and experiencing new things to repeating the same old, boring tasks again and again. This can be applied to foods, tools, and just about anything where she can try something different.


Dislikes:


Talking: Lan finds it difficult to look people in the eye, especially when they look back. The easiest way to get someone to look at you is to speak - so she usually keeps her words infrequent and minimal.

Arguments: Though she'll feel compelled to remain and watch and listen, Lan does not like arguing, and may step in to stop it fairly quickly.

Fire Manipulators: An irrational distaste that stems from a few 'unfortunate accidents' in her past. Though she'll try to be reasonable about it, Lan usually avoids those who manipulate fire, and - depending on how they manipulate it - she may end up acting passive-aggressive towards them.


Quirks:

Silent Curiosity: If Lan finds something strange, interesting, or especially pretty, she will feel compelled to stare at it, inspect it, and often touch it. Usually, she does so in complete silence, without offering any explanation or opinions unless she's directly asked.

Split Meals: Lan will always try to share half of her food with her sister - habitually - and expects the same in return. Eating an entire meal instead of two halves of separate meals is downright uncomfortable.


Fears:


Crows: An irrational fear that Lan has against the horrifying black birds. How could someone not be afraid of the bird which marks death - with 'caw's that sound like some sort of bird expletive. Plus, any one of them could be that crow.


Nothing: Being alone is scary. Wandering an empty room is unnerving. Darkness is horrifying when you can't feel anything to confirm that something is there. Lan must have something nearby her at all times to feel comfortable; some sort of presence - even if inanimate.



Wish: Freedom and to understand her past.


Most Embarrassing Moment: One day, Lan decided to try and imitate her sister's dancing, thinking she was alone in their room. Quickly starting to have fun with it, she proceeded to make several absurd and expressive movements. Just before she'd finished, she heard a loud 'caw' and turned to find a crow on the windowcill, staring intently at her as if it had seen the whole show. Though - to her knowledge - no people know of this moment, just that crow's judgemental stare was enough to mentally scar her.

Weapon: Crow (Simple Crossbow)
A lightweight crossbow that Ran managed to acquire for Lan to practice with. Unlike the more expensive repeating crossbows, this one requires a manual reload everytime it's shot. Luckily, this also makes it cheap enough to afford on a tight budget. Lan chose the name 'Crow' thinking it was both an appropriate nickname for 'CRossbOW,' and also very intimidating to name it after the creepy little stalkers.

Though it's supposed to involve the crossbow somehow, Lan mostly ignores it, considering it more of a backup weapon.

Likes:
Food - If it's edible, she'll eat all of it. If it's tasty, she'll eat all of it quickly. Wasting food is a crime, and Yu Ri is not a picky eater, capable of wholeheartedly devouring anything and everything that's put on a plate before her. Given the choice though, she'd prefer the innards of a beast to all other types of food.

Poetry - Her teacher called it 'food for the soul', and she got into it solely because of that analogy. Though it ultimately didn't serve as a substitute for meat, Yu Ri has learned to enjoy flowery expressions and poignant metaphors, even if her own poetry is shamelessly cliche.

Rainy Nights - With so much ambient sound to mask her footsteps, and with all sentries more focused on their miserable condition than their surroundings, Yu Ri finds the rain to be a more stalwart ally than most human beings. Rainwater also tastes the best, cause no one pissed in it.

Weapon Maintenance - It's meditative for her, taking care of her weapons and ensuring that they're all in good condition. A good carpenter cares for their tools. A good assassin cares for their blades. And if it's something she's going to be doing every night, it's either going to be a chore or a hobby, and Yu Ri made a conscious decision to make it the latter.

Last Words - The privilege of an assassin is to listen to their target's final words, whether it be a loathsome curse, a horrified death rattle, or a confession to a loved one that isn't there. If she has time to spare, Yu Ri will hear them out. If it's interesting, she may even record it afterwards.

Loyalty and Honor - Yu Ri hates dealing with abstracts. Though she enjoys the benefits that loyalty can have in her line of work, she despises the purity of it, the insanity of it. Why on earth would you fight to the death for something as empty as your reputation? Why would you kill yourself because you failed your own job? Ugh, those hardheaded loyalists are always a pain in the ass to work around.

Waking Up Early - Yu Ri's not a morning person. She's also been trained to wake up at the crack of dawn, no matter how tired or grumpy she is. So in the end, who's the real winner here? No one, that's who. It's usually not too much of an issue, but when she has a nighttime operation...well, everything becomes hell then.

Body Fluids - Sweat, blood, semen, tears, saliva, vomit. They're all a disgusting mess and smell like home. Her disdain for that is what makes her prefer the usage of poisons as opposed to the more tried and true 'dagger in the back'. At least with poisons, she could just walk off and not have to bother with hearing them retching out their organs.

Quirks:
Irregular Grips - Yu Ri, not being the fine, cultured young lady that most others are, employs whatever is at hand in order to grab things. Wish: Yu Ri has simple desires. She'd like to have an extravagant dinner filled with fancy things that would normally be reserved for the obscenely rich. Then she'd eat everything on the table and fall asleep without a care in the world, and wake up the next morning still alive. That'd be great.

Most Embarrassing Moment: Once upon a time, Yu Ri thought she was good at poetry. She thought that she had some pretty good words going on, some pretty sweet flow, some interesting imagery. Good enough that she could share it with others and be proud of the work she did. It turned out, however, that she wasn't as good as she thought she was.

That was certainly a bad time for all involved.

Though the emphasis is on stealth, speed, and ensnaring one's opponents in order to ensure a kill, it is also a tried and true school of martial arts, its masters able to hold their own against champions of other arts. In particular, Yu Ri practices the 'Dancing Blade Doll Variations', a mid range fighting style that relies on wirework, knifeplay, and joint locks to disable her foes before dealing a finishing strike.

Of course, any assassin from this particular school would still prefer to slay their targets in a single, quick stroke, but alas, life and death rarely interchange so easily.

Solitude - More than anything else, Yuan fears being alone, with no one to speak to or interact with. The thought of an extended period of isolation terrifies him.

Wish:
Well, freedom from prison would be his first choice. If he could push the issue: wealth, women, and wine, in that order.

Most Embarrassing Moment:
Yuan really doesn't like talking about how he wound up in prison in the first place.
The authorities had caught up to him and his little group of bandits. Outnumbered and desperate, Yuan yelled for his sworn brothers to escape while he held them off. Raising his sword aloft, he charged forward, determined to bring down as many dogs of the kingdom as he could before he fell...or at least he would have, if he hadn't tripped on a tree branch as he lunged forward. He slipped and tumbled face-first into the ground, winding up prone in front of several soldiers with swords pointed at him and with no choice but to surrender.

- Normalcy: Utashou prefers for things to be as-is, calm, and expected. In her day-to-day doings, she hopes for things to be manageable and usual; chaos and disruption very quickly cause her anxiety. If things go exactly as planned throughout the day, she can rest easy.

- Being home/indoors: Similarly, Utashou's stress increases the longer she remains away from a place of residence. Being indoors, either to have some housework to do, or otherwise simply be in a familiar place, is something Utashou seeks.

Taught to her by her grandfather, a master of the family-originating but public fighting form, Noroi-Kaze Style eschews the thrusts expected of a spear-based art in favor of sweeping and grandiose attacks. It is not uncommon to hold the spear with but a single hand at the tip of the handle for this style. Nevertheless, thrusts are used, merely less commonly than in other styles.

Wide arcs at high speed serve to keep enemies at a distance, the continuity of which ensures opponents have few opportunities to get closer. The length and momentum that the style carries require exceptional control, lest one's return to neutral stance be slow and leave one vulnerable. It is for this reason that the style also employs exceptional blocking ability, even with such a cumbersome weapon as the spear.

  • Dancing: Given his trainer insisted that Haruki learn how to dance before he could learn how to fight and the connections that were often made between the two disciplines, he's found himself rather fond of the past time.
  • Cold Weather: It's rather easy to deal with! Just bundle up and put on more layers! Probably easier if your family's pretty well off though.
  • Hustle & Bustle: The Rinko family was not born into nobility. No, they earned their place among the higher echelons of Tousa many generations ago with their mercantile skills and knack for reading the flow of trade and commerce. Even to this day the family is constantly busy and there's always a sense of urgency back home.
  • Drinking!: A more recent start-up by Rinko's father, the family has ventured into the brewery business and as a child he was often allowed small samples of whatever brew or blend his father had decided to test. Naturally, it's sort of grown on him.
Dislikes:
  • Hot Weather: Sure he can dump a bunch of water on himself to cool down, but there's only so little clothes you can wear before you can't go out in public!
  • Silence: It's probably what death sounds like. There should always be some sort of noise going on, however small it might be. The turning of pages in a library, the sounds of wildlife around a tranquil pond.
  • Being underestimated: Given his appearance and background, it's not too uncommon for Haruki to be seen as someone who doesn't know what hard work and effort really means. Naturally he takes quite of offense from this.
Quirks:
  • Object Spinning: A habit from when he holds his weapon, Haruki tends to twirl anything he's holding onto. Pens, chopsticks, skewers, and so on.
  • Grabby Sleeper: Growing up with plush blankets and other such fine amenities, Haruki can be rather clingy when asleep and tends to wind up waking up with his pillow in his hands rather than under his head.
Fears:
  • Drowning: Despite learning how to swim after the incident, Haruki is still deeply uncomfortable being in bodies of water where his feet can't reach the bottom.
  • Darkness: Not being able to see where he's going or what's making that sound is a great way to set him on edge, and expect him to react violently if surprised when in the dark.
Wish: A short cut to finer control of his Element would be appreciated, and hey it still took effort on his part so he's earned it! If no secret technique or medicine like that exists, then he'll take a bottle of the famed Sun Orchid Sake. Even if his family had the connections to procure one of the few produced every few years, the exorbitant cost would have taxed their finances greatly.

Most Embarrassing Moment: Relaxing in a hot spring with a few drinks after a long day of work, Haruki had somehow managed to fall asleep while just relaxing. He woke up rather panicked after slipping beneath the surface, flailing around and screaming as he nearly emptied the spring with Akumagraphy. After making such a mess and paying for the bits of damage he had caused, he'd slunk away to his room.

Usable with any sort of polearm weapon, the style emphasizes the role of one's weapon in directing a practitioner's Force Manipulation. Focused heavily around chaining together techniques, there's a clear connection from how one tech builds on and relies on the former. It doesn't seem to favor any particular use of polearms and freely mixes thrusts, slashes, and even butt smashes if necessary. Practitioners are also highly mobile individuals, and many have been known to use their weapon to assist in their mobility - be it stabbing into the ground to turn sharply or using it to vault over enemies.

  • Tsubaha Mori: Ah, the pipsqueak! She's got enough heart and skill to make up in spades though. Can't say I dislike her.
  • Rumiko Mitsurugi: The big'un. Learned not to get her started on her beliefs real quick, but she's easy enough to handle otherwise. Makes for a good sparing partner with how tough she is though!
  • Runara Blazeheart: The foxy one? You'd think she would have learned after that incident, but nope, she still dresses like that! Shame about her dance though, don't think it'd fit well with me.
  • Saburo Shanzhai: Ha! People actually think this guy's the real deal? No way, no way. My family's not that incompetent. I'm going to expose him for the fake I know he is. How? Give me some time alright?
  • Kei Daidouji: The... quiet one? Pretty sure it'd be safer to have no watch than him around to be honest. I've seen the look in his eyes before, and it's not that different from when my fa was about to negotiate. Looks like he's searching for any sign of weakness, and man do I not like that coming from someone that's supposed to be an ally.
  • Black Nightingale: The sleepy head. Seriously, I still can't get over that being his name. Can't say I'd trust him with anything that wasn't supervised. He'd probably wind up napping if he ever got bored.
  • Ran Yiban: Siscon. Whatever. She doesn't seem to like me or my family, and with how close she sticks to her sister, I haven't really bothered trying to get to know her. The two seem happy enough together.
  • Lan Yiban: Also a siscon. Might be less of one though. You'd probably have to separate the two to find out if she got really jealous though. What about her? What do I know about her? She's barely ever around without Ran, who barely tolerates my presence as is. The two of them seem to like food a lot, but frankly it ain't worth the effort to bring'em any.
  • Yu Ri: The other pipsqueak. Not as much heart as Tsubaha, or rather more like none at all given her crimes I guess. We don't bother each other and it's easy enough to keep it that way.
  • Yuan Liwei: The bandit? Former I guess, but I'm pretty sure he's hit at least one of the family's caravans. It seems like we could have gotten along just fine, but it seems wrong to when people are in dirt cause of him.
  • Utashou Hokoa: The lost housewife. Honestly, she seems a bit out of place here. I hope she doesn't wind up burning herself out though, she really doesn't deserve it. Almost reminds me of a younger Mira.
  • Rizen: The loud one. Enthusiastic and maybe a bit too much so. Needs to stop yelling in combat, since honestly its normally loud enough as is. Still, he seems earnest and honest so it's hard to think badly of him. Unless he keeps tagging on that Shishou thing after I've told him to stop. Seriously, it's a bit weird!
  • Noriko Amagawa: The... hrm. Friendly one's a bit vague here, so masked one? Hear me out, but it feels like there's something behind all that friendliness of his. Don't get me wrong, he's pretty cool to be around, but it's almost like he needs to be on good terms with every one he meets. And that's just a bit odd ya know?
  • Tsubaki Hanejima: Blazeheart's lackey? I mean she seems nice enough and is obviously skilled, but again, wrong place to be. Honor and loyalty I get, but she's just going to be a hindrance if she ain't willing to do what needs to be done until something regrettable happens.

I understand if you want your character to be coarse in language. But, GM wise, I wouldn't be to proud paste in Dickwad, God Dammit, or F*cking Serious for battle quotes. Stylistically, I'm not cool with the implication that it's sprinkled all over the place in his speech, so I would like to politely ask you to tone down the ones mentioned a notch if that would be okay.
