"Oh. Oh my. Fun. I like this." She said with a grin. "Now, o' cap'n my cap'n, how much... Resistance do you think we're gonna be facing? I mean, regardless, we're going into somewhat uncharted territory, and there's a good chance we may not be welcome. So, my question is, on a scale of 1 to 10, how much shooting am I gonna have to do?"
"I've hired guides, who have orders to stay somewhere between the crash site and the Opera House in Budapest until we arrive. They're supposed to keep out of trouble and keep us out of trouble, but other than the people we may face there, I am made aware of large feral packs of wolves and dogs - inbred, it seems, that may have to be dispatched. I've taken the liberty of purchasing several boxes of ammunition for various caliber of weapons, to ensure you and those we find as guides can keep other threats, human and animal, at bay. Once in Budapest, it will be much the same as it was for us in Rio - I will spend a majority of my time inside that vessel, and would like at least one person with me when I go inside. The locals have some sort of superstition that makes them reticent to enter the craft, but I suspect you aren't expecting a booky-man behind every door." She'd only heard the term 'boogey man' a couple of times in her youth, so got that wrong but it was understandable enough from her context.

She drank down the sake in a single gulp without any hesitance. It appeared this woman could easily hold her liquor, despite her appearance.

"Mm. Night off, igen? We all need them. Secure Room would either require a night's work or three hundred réz. Which shall it be? Secure Room includes key, bottled water and Pogácsa in the fridge." The lady said, bringing out a journal to start to log in Natalija's entrance.
"Sound good! I'l take the three-hundred option, thanx." Natalija replyed, puling out the 3 smal copper discs and laying them on the desk in-front of the woman.

She had more then enogh work for one day, and she had NO interest in... that... kind of work, in particular, all she realy vanted, vas get some badly-needed rest.

"First thing tomorow morning, I go back to my hide-out and get the rest of my stuff from there. Then I'l see about geting some more permanent acomodations here..."

The trip to the museum wasn't hard or long, but it was cold. Once at the steps, two lazy guards with hunting rifles sat by the main doors, looking them over.
"We don't normally accept newcomers this late, eh." One of them said, standing to approach while the other casually picked up his rifle.

"No room except in the common room in front. There's a few mattresses left. Any weapons get checked at the door. Anything to declare?" The guard who advanced on them asked, a lazy smile on his face in response to how bright and cheery Gerard started to look when he heard he was going to get to go back to sleep.
Nora was blowing on her hands and rubbing them vigorously by the time she arrived. She rubbed at her cold now before looking to the guards, seeing the rifles there. She kept a hand on Gerard's arm as a show of an overprotective sister. She hoped he was too sleepy to say anything. She hardly wanted trouble, and two big rifles vs a busted up gun was hardly worth the trouble.

"Yeah," she replied, pulling the gun from under her jersey, showing it to them. "Here. Me and my brother were traveling... we managed to get here, heard we could find someplace to sleep. We can leave in the morning if you guys don't want us around then, we're just kinda tuckered out right now."

"Drop it in the bin by the door and take a number. We don't keep anything, we just don't want weapons inside, in case things get stupid. And we got plenty of room right now, but if you stay more than a week you'll have to help out with cleaning or cooking or something." The guard assured. "Sorry, for being like this, we just got to keep trouble out. Go on in, you can give the Sisters your names in the morning, eh. Hope you like poutine, we have it a lot since we grow the potatoes out back." The guard escorted her in and after she had put the gun in the bin, she was given a number, one of those pull tab ones, these happened to be from an old Tim Horton's, and then she was taken to what used to be the lobby, about 80% covered with mattresses, and over half of them occupied.

"Have a good night, eh. Breakfast is at seven."

Well that went easier than I thought. Nora nodded to the two guards, giving them a small smile. "It's okay eh, I mean, it's just how things are now." She didn't think she'd be spending more than a couple of days here at most; she really wanted to get rid of the gun. The thought came to her that she could also maybe leave Gerard here, seeing he'd be safe, have food, and be able to help out.

"Who doesn't like poutine?" Nora smirked inwardly as she followed after the guard, making sure her 'little brother' came along as well. Ah, good ol' Timmy's. She sure missed their coffee. She was a rather patriotic Canadian; no one would ever be able to convince her that Starbucks was better.

"Thanks man," she said to the guard before heading over to mattresses.

She looked around before finding a relatively emptier part of the room. "Let's go there, Gerard," she said quietly, not wanting to wake anyone up. "And pray no one comes after us." Maybe God would listen to someone who believed. She finally sat down on a mattress, letting out a sigh before laying back, looking at the ceiling. She was tired, but certainly not relaxed.

"There are a few places nearby. The old museum, and the Basilica, are probably the largest ones. Are you looking to adopt, eh?" The lady said, grinning in a teasing manner at Casey.

"Of course there are rumors that some children are being sold as slaves, but that is supposedly happening on the far west side of town, past the mauvais quartier. If you're looking for a child to buy, however, it would be where you would go. But you didn't hear that from me. That's just a rumor." she added.
''thanks for the information miss'' he said ignoring the teasing that she was doing. he then quickly return to his room and grabbed a few basic supplies that he may need before he left the building.

''hmm i suppose checking out the more shady area would be a good start, plus if i check the safer areas first and he is at the dangerous one he could be sold by then'' he mused aloud as he start to head towards the Mauvais quatier. it didnt take him and overly long time to get there and when he did he could see that there was quite a few people from the dark side of soceity around here.

Listening intently, Alysson was pretty happy with what she heard. Arisu was a special breed - an employer that was actually on top of their shit. Most of the time Alysson had to do all of the planning, something she sucked at, so everything gradually devolved into one great, big clusterfuck.

"Superstition is bullshit. My dad always said, 'the only monsters under the bed are the ones you put there', so I'm pretty sure I can handle whatever the hell, if anything, is on the ship." She laughed dryly, the memory of her father's, in her mind, badass attitude giving her the type of heartache she was certain she was immune to. How long had it been? No, she didn't want to go down that road again.

Shit happens.

Raising an eyebrow when she saw Arisu effortlessly down the liquor, a chuckle escaping her.

"Damn, doc, I didn't know you could get down. After we make it to Bangla... Budapest. Wherever the hell we're going, we should hit up a bar after the job is done."

The secure room was just that. It had a deadbolt lock because the previous key card lock presumably no longer functioned, and still had the double lock from the inside most hotel rooms did. The sheets were reasonably clean and nothing smelled, so that was a pleasant surprise, and the one window to the room was barred on the outside.

The pastries in the fridge were all right, if a bit skimpy on filling, and it was an actual sealed bottle of water, with a date-mark of a mere three weeks ago. It seemed that somewhere not far away, someone had a water bottling plant running. How long that would last without a steady supply of materials to make the plastic bottles - or if they had already run out - was unknown, but it gave some hope that some people were at least trying to return to a normal life.

Overall most of the devastation in the world wasn't caused by the Invaders, even if you blamed several hundred large ships crashing to Earth solely on the Invaders. It was what people did once global communication was gone. Radio was mainly by relay, and there were rumors that a few nations, namely Russia, Japan, and the US, had already re-launched satellites to attempt to re-establish communications. No, most of the damage was due to the widespread looting that happened in many places around the world. With the loss of the internet and international phone calls for the most part, the world became a much larger place suddenly.

The morning came swiftly enough, with sounds of people awakening and going down to have what smelled like potato pancakes and some sort of sausage downstairs in the main part of the hostel.

It was called the "bad quarter" for a reason. Prostitution and drugs were blatantly in the open, and sometimes acts were witnessed on the streets. Most of the buildings had been ransacked, refortified, and ransacked again. But there was a sort of town square as it were. The Molson Stadium had been taken over by what looked like a fairly organized gang, who seemed to be running an ongoing auction here. Everything was being auctioned - Food, water, gasoline, hardware, drugs, time with prostitutes, and now and again... a person. Usually pre-teen to teenage girls, but the occasional male came up for bid.

It seemed like they all were bidding using swatches of cloth, which, from observation, it looked like you obtained from one of the heavily-armed men near the entrance of the stadium. What people traded for the swatches seemed to vary widely. The colors seemed to be significant of value, Black, Green, Blue, Yellow and Red in order of rarity, so that seemed to be the order of value - black being the least, and red being the most valuable.

The last person auctioned, a girl of about fourteen, was sold for three of the red swatches, to a man who looked hungrily at the young girl. He literally grabbed her and tossed her over his shoulder. She didn't even resist and her eyes were glazed, as if she were on drugs at the time, which was entirely possible.

Where would he go in this place, or was this even the place he wanted to be?

"I doubt any bar in Budapest has sake as fine as I've brought with me, but I would be willing to try wines and spirits of a local type once I have gotten the data I need from the Invader craft. I draw the line at beer, however. I've never been a fan of most beers, even Sapporo makes my stomach turn to smell it." She replied amiably.

"I was quite the champion at my college when it came to drinking contests. It appears I have a very good metabolism. I am also one of those types of people who can eat however they choose and not gain weight. If I didn't have the constitution for alcohol in college I would have likely been heavily bullied, for my origin. Being only half-Japanese was quite the dishonor to some."

Most of the rest of the flight went similarly, with them trading stories from their youths before the Invasion, and then a sleep period, before the pleasant beeps of the cabin warning asked them to put their seat belts on for the landing.

"We will be landing at about seven in the morning local time, and I've asked my guides to be there when we get there. I hope they are reliable, as one can never tell." Arisu strapped on the seatbelt for the descent.

Gerard took what Nora said literally, and knelt on his mattress, taking up a prayer position.

"Now I lay me down to sleep.
I pray the Lord my soul to keep.
If I should die before I wake,
I pray to God my soul to take.
If I should live for other days,
I pray the Lord to guide my ways.

Father, unto thee I pray,
Thou hast guarded me all day;
Safe I am while in thy sight,
Safely let me sleep tonight.
Bless my friends, the whole world bless;
Help me to learn helpfulness;
Keep me ever in thy sight;
So to all I say good night. "

"And God Bless Nora, and the nice men here who gave us a place to sleep. Amen Holy Luya."

He finished up then curled up on the bed in a fetal position.

The night, actually passed quickly, since it was only four hours until people woke up for breakfast. And so far, no one had come looking for that gun yet. Maybe someone was watching out for them after all.

casey walked into where they were auctioning off the goods and started to look around to see if they was anything of intrest that they were selling, as he did this he also started tocheck out where the guards were stationed and what type of harware they were packing as he knew that a single mistake could mean that he would have to fight his way out of here.

As he walked around he kept an eye out to see if he could see the boy that he was meant to find and possibly see how much he was being sold for. Casey knew that he was oing to need these swatches to even have a chance at getting the boy out of here f he was so eh approached the gaurd.

''yo i have a question if you dont mind, you see its my first tie here and i was wondering what i would need to trade for the swatches?'' he asked in a rather calm voice,he hated the fact that they sold people but he needed to keep his cool or this would go horribly

"Anything. You can bring whatever you want, or even promise to do stuff for people to get em. Careful with the promises though, that tends to bite you in the ass. I got stuck doing guard duty for three weeks just because I wanted enough for a bottle of Evan Williams. You see the guy at the booth there, and you negotiate. First timer, though, I'd just watch and get the idea of what shit is worth first or you'll get your ass ripped off. Fair warning, eh." He pointed at the booth not far from where he was where the line of people getting the rags was getting shorter, as the day was wearing down.

~~ OOC Note ~~
What's happening to Casey now is happening simultaneously to when Nora first met Gerard. I'll 'catch up' Casey to Nora and Gerard once this scene wraps up and do an overnight segue.

''right thanks man'' casey said as he started to walk over to the line that was infront of the booth. as he waited for the line to moved he started to think about what he might be able to trade for some swatches, he had a small stach of military grade hardware that he had hidden away when he found all his gear that he knew rightly he probably wouldnt use so he could always drop the loction of that to get some, there was also the fact eh knew how to repair some guns from his personal experiences and he could also make some simple explosives to trade not to mention he had a large supplies of foods and the like and that was always in high demand, eventually the line thinned out and he reached the desk.

''so tell me how much for some swatches, ive got some goods i think you may like'' he said confidently knowing that how someone acted around a trader could make or break a deal.

No interuptions, no un-welcome visitors in the midle of the night, no suprises... just the vay Natalija liked it. Yes, for 300 of her 2000 vorth of coins it vas a bit pricy, for only 1 night, she didnt expect anything less then perfect service, and in fact wuld have been angry if the room vasnt up to standards. Even the snacks in the refrigerator were nice... though she didnt touch anything exept the bottle of water and the pogaća .

In fact it suprised her that they had bottled water at all... and sugested that after the crash, the water from the pipes must have goten contaminated; maybe the water-lines ruptured and out-syde stuff got in there. Vhere she came from, people drinked water from the pipes all the time, it vas clean and fresh enogh, and drinkable. She didnt remember the last time she drinked any kind of water exept the one from the pipes. She vas aware that in some parts of the vorld, water from the pipes vasnt considered safe for drinking, but she didnt expect that to be right acros the border in former Hungary. They realy must have falled on bad times.

***

Come morning, Natalija did her morning hygiene... and scowled at the sight of not-entyreli-clean water coming out of the faucet.

"Yesss... not something I'd drink, thats for sure. Their water-distribution system for the city must be damaged and contaminated. This wil take some geting-used-to... actualy having to BUY drinkable water!"

The more time she spent here, the more Natalija began to apreciate just how safe and secure, life was back in Croatia and the Commonwealth as a vhole. It definitly had its advantages over this... mess. Drink vhat you want, right from the pipes, not have to wory about packs of feral dogs coming after you... it vas nice and secure, on the surface aniway. But the laws and rules just didnt agree vith her. She vas the adventurous type and vanted a bit more... latitude... in the kind of life-style she vas after, something that the powers-that-be back home didnt look kindly on.

As she got dressed and out of the room, she smeled something.... good... down-stairs. Smile coming to her face, she vent down, folowing the smell to its sorce. It vas brekfast time!

Indeed there were potato pancakes, flour, potatoes, and some sort of local curd cheese, and sausage which smelled more of the commercial variety (something was going on here definitely with regard to how well these hostels were supplied) available for either 100 réz or a small trade handled at the counter - cigarettes and water purification tablets seemed to be what most others were paying with. Turkish style coffee was available too, and no one was charging for that, Natalija supposed that it was in abundant enough supply to where it wasn't worth charging for a cup of that very thick and strong brew.

She saw the men who had given her a ride into town, and caught snippets of their conversation before she thought they even noticed her. She wasn't able to make out what they were saying, but they seemed urgent.
"...fizetett nekünk, hogy ott, ... hajnal."
"...el tudja olvasni ezt, hogy ... a nap, igen?"
"...mondtam,... igaza volt.. késő már."
"Baszd meg, te-már shoulds Azt mondta, előbb!"

And just after Natalija had gotten her food, with the lady waving her on, "You bought secure room. I throw in." Joska and his men hastily exited the hostel. They were up to something interesting and big. Maybe it was worth looking into? Joska certainly had a thing for Natalija...

"Thanx... hold it for me for later, ok?" Natalija replyed distractedly to the woman, as the sight of Joska and his band and ther obvius urgency peeked her interest. They vere in such a hurry that they didnt notice her.

"Oh, and add a few of these water-purification pills too, I'l buy a few..." she added to the woman, but vas already on her vay out, folowing the men. She may not have understod their convo, but her instincts vorked just fine. They vere up to something, and, ever-curious, Natalija vas determined to find out what.

Once outsyde the hostel, she folowed them at a discrete distance.

Maybe it even had something to do vith that mystery-man with the box at the exchange-ofice from yesterday...

Nora didn't want to admit it, but when she woke up... she did have to admit that she'd had a good sleep, the first one in a while. It irritated her a little, because she'd always thought of herself as self sufficient. However, it seemed subconsciously, her mind had been more at ease knowing she didn't have to sleep with an eye open as there were guards posted outside.

She woke up due to the sound of others moving. She was up in a sitting position almost immediately, eyes darting to and fro, far from trusting. Calm down, others will notice. A hard bite to her lip, and she returned to her usual self, a face as impassive as a boring looking wall. She finally stood up before looking over to Gerard.

"Hey, time to wake up," she told him, figuring that's what a big sister would do... ensure that her little sibling had breakfast. Well, that's what she envisioned anyway. Who was there to tell her that there were other more creative ways, like tickling, a bucket of water, etc?

"You sound like a hoser, eh. That isn't how it works. You show what you got, then we quote you a price. You think it's not enough, you offer more. It's called bartering, This isn't like it was before. So either you show me something or sign up for the duty roster to work around here, or you take off, eh." The guy managed to sound tough with a thick accent which was no mean feat for a First Nation guy who didn't look like he should be talking that way at all. Something about his face showed that it had seen a lot of violence in a short time. He wasn't especially big but it was obvious he was strong.
