The Drachensturm

The room is a serious mess. Thin whitish-yellow sheets, not dissimilar to Egyptian papyrus, are strewn almost everywhere, rummaging through them would be a pain, but not impossible. Looking around, you see a small wooden box on the wall beside the metal boxes, it contains a key. However even though you can see the key, thick glass prevents you from grabbing it...

The place was a mess. It would be hard work to try and uncover anything under all these sheets. Not impossible, but it would be hard work. If she had to she would, finding these items were important and worth a little extra work to get to.
Seeing a small wooden box besides the metal boxes she wandered back over to them. Curious, how would she open such a box when there was so much glass between her and the key? Maybe she could get the box off the wall and break open the wooden part of the box, getting around the glass problem completely.
Lifting her hands to the box she tugged at it, seeing if it would come off the wall.

Well *he says as he places a foot on the hunk of metal to see if it is stable to walk on* With as big as it is. I'm sure we can search inside of it. *He steps onto it and holds out his hand to help the others*

Ludovic seemed satisfied with her book for now, but his issue clearly remained in his mind as he trudged off by himself. He was a well built and wielding a vicious looking blade to boot. Marcella supposed he would be fine - besides, the bandits had all been slain by the mmercenaries hadn't they? She turned her attention to Ullr, grasping onto his hand and stepping onto the metal water carriage, as she chose to call it. She experimentally stomped on the metal, emitting a loud bang. It didn't sound entirely solid and her observation of the object as a water carriage grew more valid. "What do you suppose this is?" Marcella walked unsteadily from one side to the other but there didn't seem to be anything much outside. She waited for Ullr to start searching inside of the object, as she didn't have a clue on where to begin.

I suspect something that goes under waterms and scouts. Or at least from what I have heard. No telling what was used back in the day. *he looked around for a hatch to enter and opened it once it was found. He was ready to strike in case something or some one jumped out of it* From the looks of it. It seems pretty cramped.

The box creaks as you tug, but didn't immediately shift, however clear cracks appear in the wall behind it, the decay of many years weakening the structure of the wall. It is heavy however, and it woud still be no small feat to break it free, perhaps you should look around to find a tool to help you?

Finally joining the rest after having stayed back for safety, Killian walked in holding his crossbow loaded and ready to take on someone who would want to get a piece of him. He had no shame in being out of the fight with the bandits for the second time as he wasn't much of a fighter and wasn't here as a muscle, they had plenty of muscle already. He walked over the bandit corpses, doing the same as before and rummaged a bit through their pockets for anything useful and gained more leather lace and grabbed somewhat good quality pieces of armor which he placed in his backpack if he ever needed such a thing though it was starting to get a bit full. He sank his sword into the throat of a bandit that he thought might have been faking the severity of his mortal injury and cleaned the edge after the deed was done.
"Well, with that unpleasantry gone, let us search for the thing that I was hired to find" Killian said as he approached Lilia, undoing the crossbow string at last and put away the bolt in the belt quiver and approached the boxes. He noticed that the key was currently out of reach but when it came to locks that required regular keys, Killian would not be deterred. "I believe I would be able to open these. I am quite an experienced...lockpick. Yes. Lockpick" He lied as he grabbed some needles from his backpack and began to work on the wooden box lock. He didn't actually know how to pick a lock but what he could do is use a bit of magic and manipulate the metal mechanism of the locks, able to unlock primitive locks with far more ease than the average lockpick.
The lock clicks and clanks as the pick works around inside of it, but to no avail, the pick snaps with a jarring sensation as you push it deeper, the two ends springing backwards out of the lock, it's tight, and the keyhole is tiny, there isn't much room in there. What's more, there are literally well over fifty of these boxes. Perhaps it would be a better idea to help Cora? On second thought, though it's taken a little while to trigger, the box creaks slightly, the door hanging ajar, it was open! But how? The pick broke...

No matter, if you looked inside you would find an assortment of items, mostly more of those whitish-yellow sheets, but buried between them was something else, something black and shiny, it was metal, and almost unrusted from lack of exposure, it was open at one end, and a row of gleaming gold-coloured pointed tubes went down to the bottom inside, though you couldn't see how many were there.

With a sigh Cora gave up on trying to get the box from upon the wall. Instead began to rifle through the room, pulling at anything and everything she could get her hands on. Though due to the heavy amount of cloth strewn about the place it was making her work a slow progress to search the room for anything useful. Yet she persisted, not willing to give up. Not yet. She would exhaust all her options first. Even if it meant over turning the whole room, which she did. Slowly and with much effort to move the binding cloths and look through things carefully.

As you grow more exasperated with the search, you find a strange, long metal object, curved in opposite directions at each end, tapering to a flat edge on both ends as well, it's rusty, but looks serviceable.

They sat there a while, perched on top of the floating metal. Marcella wasn't certain what they were waiting for but placed her hand on her sword, seeing Ullr do the same. She peered into the darkness and counted to ten. Emboldened by his presence or perhaps influenced by his disregard for life, Marcella jumped into the hatch with reckless abandon. With a light clank, she landed feet first before warily moving aside. The only light came from the hatch Ullr had opened and Marcella had to rely on her hands to help guide her along. "There doesn't seem to be anyone here, Ullr!"

After what seemed like an age searching, searching hard for something--anything. Just as it seemed like there would be nothing, did moving one little object make something thunk to the ground. Shifting the box out of the way Cora set her eyes upon a long metal bar, curved at an angle on the ends. Lifting it from the floor she weighted it between her hands, heavy but moveable.

Putting two and two together Cora realized that she would be able to free the box from the wall and retrieve the key she had been hoping to get earlier. Which would in turn get her access to those boxes.

With a small smile Cora waded back through the sea of debris to the area she had been standing before with the metal bar in hand she lifted it and tried to shift it off the wall using what force she had. After a few heaves did the box fly free of the wall.

This object might come in handy later, so she left it where it was for now. Deciding it would make a good weapon if need be and could come in handy for such tasks as these.

Taking the key from the shattered box on the floor she took to opening the locked boxed around, in search of more stuff. Hopeful in her search.

Indeed her hope was well placed as in three of the many boxes she opened did she find a few objects. A book, a magnifying tube or such object though its use limited due to the broken lens, then there was another metal object with an assortment of what she could only believe to be fixtures. All things that may or may not come in handy. With what she could fit in her quiver with her arrows she did, dropping things to the bottom.

Moving back to where she had broken the box containing the key, she picked the long heavy piece of metal again, believing this room to be well and truly searched. It was time to head back and meet up with the others and go off in search in another such places.

Cora was off to a good start, she hoped the others had too been successful.

As Marcella had stated, there was nobody inside the metal vessel. Well, nobody living at any rate. She found herself in a tight, circular space, a long tube protruding upwards from the centre of the floor, reaching up to a slot to the side of the hatch she had come through, at the lower end of the tube were two rods either side, with a circular glass lenticel attached to the tube between them. Around the lenticel was a soft, black substance, smooth to the touch, but crumbling from years of wear, you could not tell what it was. Hunched in a low metal seat by the lenticel, a bony hand resting on one of the rods, was the skeletal remains of a man, or woman, there was no way to tell once a human was dead after all, they were dressed in a light blue outfit, streaked with grime and dirt, a black cap with gold threading depicting an anchor resting on the deceased's forehead. A sailor then, so this truly was a boat of some kind. Looking around, there wasn't much else here besides broken sheets of metal and a solid which you could not discern from metal, though it was distinctly different at the same time, despite the fact it looked like the metal as well. What you did find was another hatch, leading further into the craft...

Stepping back outside the room, the small area you had been investigating fell quiet except for the rustlings of Killian, who appeared to have taken an interest in a small metal block, though you couldn't tell what it was from this distance or in this light. Back up the stairs were Lilia, Pyrelithia, Catalina, Jan and Simon. You didn't know where the others were. On your level, was another room, a vault of some description, the large, heavy door crooked and idle on it's hinges, no longer safeguarding what lay within, do you investigate?

*Ullr jumped down with the woman* I did expect something more than this. I guess there is another hatch though. Would you lie to check it out? *he walked over to it not waiting for a response*

It was like no other boat she'd been in before. It felt more like a tunnel to Marcella, a tunnel someone had stuffed all of their junk in. She crept forwards slowly, freezing once she saw the stained yellow-white colour of bone. The skeletal remains were all dressed the same and Marcella did not dare disturb their rest. "Deus autem pacis sit cum omnibus vobis amen." She muttered under her breath, holding a few seconds of sigil before continuing on. She wasn't sure what the group had in mind for recovering but Ullr had pushed ahead of her already. Marcella stooped her head, mindful of the surroundings before kneeling next to him on the hatch. She waited with bated breath, not sure of what lay beyond the metal door. "Open it." Only a tremble in her voice alerted Ullr of her excitement, though she was more concerned with seeing the old civilization rather than looting the metal carriage.

Opening the metal hatchway revealed naught but darkness below, the glint of more metal struts in the shape of what appeared to be a ladder at the top being all you could see, you'd have to use a lantern or light source of some kind to explore further.
(Either one of you can say you'd been carrying a lamp of some kind. e.g. Marcella could have stolen the one from her cell earlier.)

Cora, now finished in the room she had been previously searching on her own, was ready to embark upon another room or somewhere else at least to uncover more artifacts. She had already come upon many different objects so far, some she didn't know anything about. But as pre-rapture objects they could be worth something. This was after all a salvage, anything could be worth something. It was worth taking anything she could find.

Upon the level she was on there was another room, a considerably larger room. Maybe a vault, hopefully a vault that held other treasures to find. Though the door was crooked and laying idle upon its hinges, leaving the vault open for all. That could mean the valubles were taken. In any case they should check it out regardless. They didn't know if there was, or was not anything left inside. To know for sure they would have to look.

Cora, taking her own path wandered towards the open vault, poking her head around the corner to take a little peek inside before venturing in.
