Yosuke Hanamura is a pitiable young soul. He hasn't forgotten his goals in life--get good grades, be in school often, etc, but where most of the student body excels in accepting their futures, he buckles under the pressure of being an adolescent young man in high school. He doesn't really know what he wants to do, and before Yu Narukami came to town, he was bored of being stuck in some dumpy little town in the middle of nowhere. He doesn't see the thrill in adulthood and taxes, and has found himself fantasizing about heroic adventures and excitement. He doesn't want to be stuck paying taxes, settling down and starting a family, and becoming a nobody. At the same time, he suffered from a crippling, low-self-esteem, that although has improved since Yu Narukami came to town, hasn't completely elevated itself to a healthy level.
He threw everything into getting the approval of others, which is unhealthy, and completely unlike the person he would like to be... He didn't even want to be an outstanding person, a hero, because he had been convinced that he'd never get there. Yosuke also suffered from crippling anxiety, fearing any misstep he might make. He feared being the outcast, feeling the judgmental gazes on him. He willingly let himself be the butt of any joke, because he wanted to be liked.
After facing his shadow, these issues have diminished, but his eagerness to please everyone around him could be exhausting to himself and everyone around him. He gets very anxious about friends leaving him behind, like they did after he moved away from the big city. He feared abandonment by close friends above all else. Maybe he was so used being used. After defeating his shadows, he realizes that working and working to make people like him was perhaps not the right thing to do. But he still can exhausting at times. His demeanor is pretty lax, but he's a mildly irritable youth who still suffers from feelings of inadequacy. His natural snark, and clumsy experience with he has being himself can lead to him blurting out things he doesn't even mean to say. He's still a foolish boy, but unafraid of teasing and jibing at his friends. His teasing can go a bit too far, but he has a tendency of becoming skittish and unsure how to handle it when he realizes that he's gone too far. He apologizes sheepishly. He's very caring towards his friends, regardless.
He is displeased at simply leeching on to others, and spilling out his feelings without giving something back in return. He tends to be a wannabe ladies' man.
