"Come out!" the roar echoed again, and the woman from earlier came over. "Sir, but one of the girls that lives here is deaf." Charlotte had to praise Krystal for that lie, since it was now on their side.

Krystal silently thanked the woman for believing that lie. She stayed locked in her room and listened.

"A resident of this house has been charged twice for illegal racing and attack, please, edge away from the house," the cop barked his orders. Charlotte heard footsteps slowly back away, and she almost screamed as the policeman began walking up the stairs.

Krystal heard the footsteps coming towards the stairs. She back away to the window, ready to climb out and run off in case he really did come up the stairs.

He opened the door straight across from him, which led to Charlotte's bedroom. The room was, of course, empty, but Charlotte still panicked. Krystal was upstairs. The policeman knew he wouldn't be allowed to touch anything, but the room was a mess from the family drama. He brought out his phone and took a photograph, before moving on. His hand twisted around the doorknob of Krystal's bedroom.

Krystal quickly went out the window and closed it behind her to leave no evidence. She jumped out and immediately started to run.

He opened the door and it was empty. Charlotte bit her lip as he came back downstairs, though he left the house and drove off. She came out from behind the sofa, "He better pay for our door."

Krystal stayed pressed against the outside wall of the house. She watched quietly as the police officer drove away. Krystal ran around to the backyard and entered through there so no neighbors could see her.

The neighbours scattered and Charlotte stomped up the stairs, frustrated because she'd have to pay for a door.

"We have to buy a new door. Or maybe we could leave?" Charlotte suggested. She knew that they could be robbed if they didn't have a door to protect them.

"We should have enough for a new door," Krystal said as she pulled some of the money out of her pocket.

"How much did you get? Will you put it in the safe?" Charlotte asked. She watched in awe as the money came out.

"I'm not sure. People put up a lot of money for races...I don't feel like counting it all," she said as she put 75% of it in the safe.

"Mm...okay," Charlotte said, closing the safe. Most of the money was in there, partially because Charlotte didn't trust Krystal and partially in case they got robbed.

Charlotte went into her bedroom to see if anything was missing or broken. Only when she realised they weren't, she relaxed and sighed in relief.

Krystal laid down on her bed and thought about the nights events. She knew for sure that would be one thing she will not be doing again.

She lay down on the bed and thought about what Krystal was doing and why her actions had led to the lack of protection she felt at the moment, and she sat up and thought a little more. It wasn't Krystal's fault, she knew, but a quiet voice told her it was and that she should blame Krystal every chance possible.
