HUMANITY FOUNDATION LEVEL: EX

Welcome to Shrouded Heir of the Seven Hills: Constantinople!

————————

The deadline is closing in on Humanity, and the Human Order Foundation is still unstable. The Chaldea Security Organization is deploying to the seventh Singularity - Absolute Frontline in the War Against the Demonic Beasts: Babylonia - with the hope of entirely fixing the Greater History of Man. It's the last Singularity detected, after all. Demon God Flauros - Lev Lainur - laughs from the grave. It wasn't hard to hide an eighth Singularity entirely from Chaldea's sensors - he did have direct access to Global Environment Model CHALDEAS and Near-Future Observation Lens SHEBA, after all.

All is not lost, however. Just as in the previous Singularities, Humanity as a whole can assist. The Counter Force has deployed more Servants than ever before into the Singularity. Good, evil, doesn't matter. The Singularity must be resolved by any means necessary, or the destruction of Humanity is an absolute.

An indefinite reality like a Singularity, cut off from the Greater History of Man, is like a shadowy legend even to the Counter Force itself. The information the Counter Force can provide is scarce. But this is known: the date is 545 of the Common Era. Khosrau "the Immortal Soul," is Shahanshah of Persia. Justinian I is Emperor of Rome - of Greece, really. Constantiople stands as a wall, letting the mighty armies of Persia go no further. And further they have gone - to the soft, blue shores of the Bosphorus. And like a shadow in the night stalks the Plague, in an Egypt ascendant once again. A misplaced breath, and Western Civilization will shatter, and the hopes of man will pass into night.

————————

In this RP, the characters are all "Servants" - ancient (or not so ancient) heroes with mighty abilities. They can be basically anything; real individuals from history, mythological heroes, even characters from stories. If you've got an idea and you're not sure if it will work, just ask! Canonical servants are also perfectly fine, though some won't work (because they're too powerful, which is to say, Archer/Caster Gilgamesh). Below is a character sheet.

Some notes:
"Class" refers to one of Seven Classes (or EXTRA classes; if you'd like to play one, please ask): Saber, a master of swords; Archer, a hero skilled with bow and arrow; Lancer, a spear master; Rider, a hero defined by their steed (alive or mechanical); Caster, a master of Magecraft; Assassin, a master killer; or Berserker, a hero defined by rage.
Stats and Skills are ranked from E to EX ranks, with +/- for when they vary in certain edge cases. Generally, you should have about one stat of each rank A to E, with EX only when a character is defined by that stat. For skills, it really doesn't matter. Class skills are listed below. If you make up a skill - which you should do - describe it; if the skill already exists, a description is unneeded.
"Luck" is the ability of a character to defy destiny. Basically, if somebody led the hero around by the nose, particularly a god or "fate," they'll have a low Luck stat. If somebody rebelled against destiny, they tend to have a high one.
The "Noble Phantasm" is the core of somebody's legend in a physical form - eg. Excalibur for King Arthur.

Personal Skills:

Unconquered A: Embraces a Madness Enhancement until all humans and animals in sight are dead.
Battle Continuation C
Aikhmeta B: Ajax can ignore any and all defensive abilities of a lower rank on Archers.

Noble Phantasm(s):
Name: Rho Aias
Title/Alternative Reading: The Seven Rings that Cover the Fiery Heavens
Rank: A+
Type: Anti-Fortress (Self)
Description: The great shield of Ajax, made of seven bull hides covered in bronze. Manifests as seven great shields, capped with the seven-petaled purple flower that grew at the place of her suicide. Boasts a near-absolute defense against thrown weapons.

Background: A proud warrior and royal of the island of Salamis, eldest daughter and heir of King Telamon. According to legend, she was the greatest hero of the Greeks at Troy after Achilles. Her massive shield was made of seven layers of hide of a bull, with a covering of bronze, which she used to great effect in slaying many Trojan heroes, and fighting Hector to a standstill. When Achilles died, Ajax desired to take up his armor, as it was magically forged by Hephaestus. Odysseus, however, was far more eloquent, and was awarded the armor. Possessed by fury, Ajax attempted to slay those who had awarded the armor, but Athena sent an illusion to her, causing her to instead slay crowds of sheep. When her fury faded and she realized what she had done, the shame overcame her, and she committed suicide.

Class Skills:
Riding A+
Magic Resistance C
Personal Skills:
Charisma B: The regent who changed the very name of his nation and is still respected by the people over a century after his death.
Rapid Sutra Chanting D: He is commonly attributed with the writing of the Sangyō Gisho, an annotated commentary of three important Buddhist sutras.
Ceremonial Reformation C: He is said to have written one of the earliest known constitutions, established a merit-based court system, and centralized the government of the entire nation.

Noble Phantasms:
Name: Shichiseiken
Title/Alternative Reading: Seven Stars Sword
Rank: B
Type: Anti-Unit
Description: A blade with golden inlay depicting the Ursa Major constellation. It's ability is nothing very flashy, contrasting it's owner. The Seven Stars Sword can shoot golden beams from it's blade, and summon copies of itself for use as projectiles. It still has merit as a melee weapon, with the ability to use it's golden energy to enhance the blade itself.

Name: Ten Voices
Title/Alternative Reading: Two Ears Can Hear Ten Men
Rank: A
Type: Anti-Unit (Self)
Description: Prince Shotoku's famed ability to understand ten men at once, sublimed into a Noble Phantasm. However, instead of simply letting him hear ten people speak, he can listen to their very thoughts. This does not work on Servants with rank B or higher Magic Resistance, sadly. This does not mean that he cannot read the thoughts of their Master, of course. However, this Noble Phantasm does have a significant downside: Shotoku cannot turn it off. Thankfully, he can counter this rather easily by simply taking away his ability to hear clearly. Even a cheap pair of earmuffs or headphones can achieve this effect.

Personality: Shotoku is a character, to put it lightly. He's quite boastful, can be rather arrogant at times, and is quite the show-off. Yet, he is also quite generous and is a skilled ruler, able to navigate the pitfalls of court life with ease. He is also a very pious man, both towards Buddha and the Shinto gods. He will spend copious amounts of money on expensive clothing, yet will gladly give said clothes away to a beggar in need.

Legend: Prince Shotoku is a famous Japanese figure of the Asuka period (538-710 or 592-645, depending on who you ask), most notable for his government reforms, the introduction of Buddhism to Japan, and giving Japan (then known as Wa) it's proper name of "the land of the rising sun". It is said that he showed generosity to the great Buddhist monk Bodhidharma, and was seen as a wise man for it. His face has featured on many Yen bills in modern times. It is said that he rode a black winged horse, and could listen to ten men speak at once and understand all of them (believed now to be a metaphor for his administrative skills). He's also notable for making an appearance in Touhou as Toyosatomimi-no-Miko, who is basically a Fate character (he's even genderswapped!), who totally didn't provide a large amount of inspiration for this write-up, totally.
Nice! Just a few things:
What do his skills do? I'm assuming Rapid Sutra Chanting is High Speed Divine Words, but what's Ceremonial Reformation?
Unless they're pretty low-power beams, his first NP should either just fire a beam or just create a bunch of copies on True Name Release. If the beams are fairly weak, as far as Servant attacks go, then the copies are fine as a TNR.
For his second NP, hearing thoughts just doesn't implement well in RP. How about being able to hear everything in a four or five hundred meter radius that could be heard by a normal person very close to it, and in a stereoscopic, almost 3D nature? If you've got an alternative, that might work as well.

Rapid Sutra Chanting is basically High Speed Divine Words but with sutras (it's one of Xuanzang's skills). Ceremonial Reformation is one of Karl der Grosse (Ruler!Charlemagne from Extella Link)'s skills, and improves the people and land that he rules.
As for the NPs, I'll just have the projectile copies be the sword's TNR (beams are pretty weak), and have Ten Voices work as you suggested.

Oh, right, google exists hyuuuu

Anyway, sounds good!

Hey ho, Shiki, this sounds fun.

Anyways, here's a fellow that you should be quite familiar with:

True Name: Jean Valjean
Class: Ruler
Alignment: Neutral Good
Appearance:
1575085446319.png
Strength: B (B+)
Endurance: A+ (A++)
Agility: C
Magical Energy: C
Luck: A
Class Skills: N/A
Personal Skills:
Identity Substitution A
: Jean Valjean was known for his use of disguises to escape the law and to conceal himself from Javert, to the point where Javert once walked into Valjean's office and did not suspect a thing, even after a direct conversation. The disguises make it so that Valjean himself cannot be recognized unless subjected to an extremely powerful revelation skill or True Name Discernment. However, once the disguise is broken, he cannot use that same disguise again.

Divinity E: The actions that he took in life intentionally reflected the mercy of God -- but the reason that he holds such a skill is unclear.

Generosity of Fortune B: Jean Valjean gathered an extraordinary amount of wealth in life. However, he opted to use most of it for the betterment of M______ sur M___, rather than keeping it for himself. This manifests in the ability for him to swap the Luck stat of those affected by this skill with his own.

Natural Body C: Jean Valjean was capable of leaping over a one-story tall barricade upon his arrival and Paris, and evaded Javert once by faking his death via holding his breath for an abnormally long time underwater. Allows Valjean to enhance his Strength and Endurance by a half rank.

Noble Phantasms:

Do You Hear the People Sing: The Undying Flame of Revolution

Rank: EX

Type: Anti-Monarch

The events of the book Les Miserables are largely misattributed to Jean Valjean.
Even still, he remembers the barricade.
He remembers the spirit of the young men who gathered there that day.
He remembers the same fire that the priest lit within him.
"Though I may not be its true owner… may the brilliant fire of those men shine into the future."
An Anti-Monarch Noble Phantasm that judges the ruler in question with the sins of their reign.
Obviously, this depends on the victim's conscience. The stronger it is, the more effective it is.
For the shades of those tormented under their rule shall all appear to cry out their suffering.
The ruler shall bear witness to the result of their sins through the eyes and ears of those trampled. It would be most accurate to term this Noble Phantasm a crystallization of the concepts "consequences" and "responsibility".
"Do you hear the people sing?"

A Night Behind Which There Is Day: The Quiet Hope of Les Miserables

Rank: EX

Type: Anti-Evil

A Noble Phantasm that represents the dormant hope of the wretched.
Criminals, the poor, those downtrodden.
The crystallization of the impact of just one act of mercy.
An Anti-Evil Noble Phantasm that represents the rehabilitative justice of the Christian God, which erodes the will of those of the Evil alignment to fight.
"To love another person is to see the face of God."

In what sense does his first NP "judge"? That is to say, how does the attack manifest?

Other than that, looks good.

The "judging" consists of the shades of all those who suffered and died as a consequence of their reign lodging their grievances against the ruler. Basically, it's as powerful as the ruler's conscience is.

Are these shades attacking the ruler? Or...? I just mean how it functions mechanically.

I'm planning on doing Albert Einstein, and I have... multiple ideas for what his NP would be (although it would probably be named E=mc^2 or Annus Mirabilis). Which would you prefer it to be?
  1. A Nuclear Explosion or the conversion between Mass and Energy, referring, of course to E=mc^2
  2. Something Gravity or Black Hole related, referring to his development of General Relativity
  3. The destruction of Mystery, forcing a target to behave according to scientific principles, possibly causing it to collapse onto itself, or disperse, or simply be able to be overcome through conventional scientific means.

Whichever you find the most fun (though - simply speaking as a nerd - nuclear explosions are more Oppenheimer than Einstein, and 3 sounds a lot like Edison's World Faith Domination, though that last part sounds interesting).

I'm excited to see how Albert is going to turn out.

Ooooh, this looks interesting! Would it be alright if I do Charlemagne from Fate/Extella Link?

Basically, the idea behind Einstein's capabilities was "Caster!Gil, but Science." I hope this works.
True Name: Albert Einstein
Class: Caster
Alignment: Chaotic Good
181141-Albert_Einstein.jpg
Stats
Strength: E
Endurance: E
Agility: D
Magical Energy:C
Luck: C
Class Skills:

Item Construction A: While he was a Theoretical Physicist, not an Engineer, Einstein is endowed with the knowledge of every product of science, and is thus capable of creating any products of science himself, as well as teaching others to create said products.

Territory Creation C+: Allows for the creation of a Laboratory, which, despite being smaller in scale than a Workshop, is highly efficient.

Personal Skills:

Natural Born Genius EX: Allows the use of most Skills, excluding those inherent to the body (such as Divinity) or ones unique to particular heroes, at proficiency of A~B Rank. This skill is only appropriate for the person whose existence is defined by genius.

Pioneer of the Stars EX

Charisma C
: Einstein was beloved by many, especially children, and even was offered the mostly ceremonial position of President of Israel.

Einstein was a man filled with childlike curiosity, believing that the universe always had another secret, another mystery to be discovered and solved. He viewed himself as a man who never grew old, who never ceased to be curious in the mystery in which he was born. He thought independently, being suspicious of authority from a very young age, believing that foolish faith in it was the worst enemy of truth. His eccentricity made him the blueprint for practically every mad scientist archetype, while his brilliance inspired hope in many. He was a nerd, in many ways, being a fan of comic books and children's television, even in his old age.

He was a staunch supporter of civil rights, pacifist, socialist, and Zionist movements. He believed war was wrong, idolizing Gandhi, and his greatest regret was signing the Einstein–Szilárd letter, which urged US President Roosevelt to develop the Manhattan Project. He has reconciled his attitude towards violence with the acknowledgement of the fact that humanity itself is on the line, and thus decided that he will never fight in person unless he has no other option, and instead do what he can to help others protect the Human Order.

Noble Phantasms:

Annus Miribalis

Rank: A

Type: Anti-Unit Noble Phantasm

Albert Einstein, despite not having easy access to a complete set of scientific reference papers, published a series of four papers in the year 1905 that explained the photoelectric effect, provided evidence for the existence of the Atom, created the field of Special Relativity, and discovered Mass-Energy Equivalence. Because of these achievements, of classifying that which humanity had never understood, he is capable of discerning a scientific explanation for any item of magecraft, thus treating them as if they were on par with the creations of science.

E=mc2

Rank: EX

Type: Anti-Army Noble Phantasm

The Equation that changed the face of modern science, the pinnacle of Einstein's Annus Miribalis, this Noble Phantasm, before its true name is invoked, is the manifestation of the phrase that became synonymous with scientific achievement, discovered by the man whose very name has come to mean "Genius." This gives him access to the knowledge of every achievement produced by human science after 1905, and ranging into the distant future. When its true name is invoked, this Noble Phantasm demonstrates Mass-Energy Equivalence, converting a relatively small amount of matter into Energy, producing a massive explosion. That usage of his Noble Phantasm is something that he will never do, for it reminds him of his greatest regret.

Annus Miribalis A
: Albert Einstein, despite not having easy access to a complete set of scientific reference papers, published a series of four papers in the year 1905 that explained the photoelectric effect, provided evidence for the existence of the Atom, created the field of Special Relativity, and discovered Mass-Energy Equivalence. Because of these achievements, of classifying that which humanity had never understood, he is capable of discerning a scientific explanation for any item of magecraft, thus treating them as if they were on par with the creations of science.

Charisma C: Einstein was beloved by many, especially children, and even was offered the mostly ceremonial position of President of Israel.

Noble Phantasm:

E=mc2

Looks pretty good. A few points:

Annus Mirabilis is a bit much for a skill - it would be better as a second Noble Phantasm.

How exactly would knowing all future human advancements work? I mean, like, from an out of universe perspective. Since we haven't gotten to most of them yet.

The plan is to stay in the realm of believable sci-fi, essentially. So probably Cold Fusion &/or Antimatter reactors, logical expansions of Drone technology, and stuff like Railguns for combat-related purposes. For non-combat, very little needs to be made up, considering modern farming techniques and the infrastructure of cities like Tokyo.

I'll move it, then.

Interestingly, I think that Caster concept is about the complete opposite of what I came up with.

True Name: Françoise Prelati
Class: Caster
Alignment: Lawful Evil
Appearance:
A young woman with crimson eyes and near-white hair, presumably caused by extensive use of Magecraft. Clad in white ecclesiastical garb by default, with a Bible clasped naturally under one arm. Her height and weight are 162 cm and 48 kg respectively. She gives off a devout impression.

Strength:
E
Endurance: D
Agility: C
Magical Energy: A
Luck: B

Class Skills:
Item Construction B:
Caster primarily utilizes the Church's Thaumaturgical Theory to construct Holy Sacraments, such as Keys of Providence or Holy Shrouds. However, she can also manufacture standard Mystic Codes.

Territory Creation B: She's proficient in the creation of Workshops and Bounded Fields.

Personal Skills:
Illusionism A:
A Thaumaturgical Discipline that involves manipulation of the psyche, as well as the projection of thoughts into reality via Magecraft. At this rank, it's possible to implant artificial memories and conjure scenes on the level of a single village. These effects can be mitigated by Magic Resistance or skills that defend against mental interference.

Spiritual Doctor C+: An unconventional form of healing Magecraft that acts solely through a non-physical medium, i.e. repairing the spirit instead of the flesh. Though her abilities in this field are rather average, it's considerably effective on those with spiritual bodies, such as Servants.

Agent of the Church B: Combat techniques passed down through the Holy Church, which specializes in eradicating heresy. Caster displays expertise comparable to a skilled Executor, allowing her to temporarily clash against other Servants while using Reinforcement to make up for her low physical parameters. She's also well-versed in Exorcism Rites.

Noble Phantasm(s):
Name:
Grand Illusion
Title/Alternative Reading: Deacon of the Nightmare Sea
Rank: B
Type: Anti-World
Description: Tales of Prelati's supposed depravity and guile, sublimated as a Noble Phantasm. During her life, she convinced hundreds of nobles and clergy to fund or actively participate in blasphemous rituals, which sought to materialize something that shouldn't exist according to Christianity. Many individuals later claimed that she had used witchcraft to distort their fundamental perception of reality.

An illusion that flawlessly overwrites the environment to deceive the very Texture of the World, allowing her to project false landscapes and hallucinations on the scale of a Reality Marble. However, it's still mere fiction in the end, and can't inflict any real damage to Servants.

"O' saint and knight who showed me a different madness, neither of you were mistaken. I make an offering; to all humanity, permitted by this broken world, I offer the sacrifice that is me!"

Name: Prelati's Spellbook
Title/Alternative Reading: Textbook of the Sunken Spiral Castle
Rank: A+
Type: Anti-Army
Description: A demonic grimoire bound in perpetually damp human skin. It functions as a summoning terminal linked to the aquatic depths of another dimension, allowing its user to call upon an army of eldritch Horrors. While their individual fighting strength generally isn't a major threat to Servants, they make up for it with overwhelming numbers, serving as expendable fodder similar to Dragon Tooth Warriors.

The Spellbook itself is actually a living entity, possessing its own immense reserves of Magical Energy and the ability to regenerate from harm. By drawing out its full power, Caster can summon a Gigantic Horror the size of a building, which continues to devour and grow until eventually collapsing under its own weight. This ritual takes a substantial amount of time to prepare, and is quite noticeable once underway.

As the grimoire's original owner, Prelati doesn't need blood sacrifices to begin the summoning process, instead using her own Prana to lure and control the creatures. However, if their connection to the Spellbook is severed for even a moment, all existing Horrors will immediately dissolve into black sludge.

"Is it time for Mass? Very well. Assemble, my congregation, and we shall sing our praises to the Lord."

Personality: Under most circumstances, Caster is a rather quiet, scholarly individual who dislikes combat. As expected of a cleric, she maintains absolute faith in God, and could be considered charismatic in the sense that she's able to speak with perfect conviction - making her words sound like the truth, even in cases where they're only her personal interpretation.

However, due to her pragmatic mentality as a magus, she's not nearly as reserved or benign as she might appear. Prelati believes that Magic Circuits are essentially a blessing from God; the right to recreate miracles found in the divine sacrament. Indeed, her understanding of God is simply 'that which dwells in the Root.' Consequently, she regards the art of Magecraft as something sacred - the sole route by which humans can approach the realm of divinity. To her, there's nothing heretical in pursuing Magecraft to the utmost limit, even if that means performing evil acts like sacrificing condemned prisoners, summoning monsters, or scheming against the Church itself.

In short, anything is acceptable as long as she can reach the Root.

Religion aside, she enjoys collecting stories from distant lands, as someone who rarely left Europe during her lifetime. Caster has a surprisingly strong tolerance for alcohol, which she attributes to being forced to finish the leftover sacramental wine after every Mass. Her sense of aesthetics is hopelessly skewed in favor of exotic sea creatures (squid, sea cucumbers, etc).

As a magus, her Origin is 'Devotion.'

Legend: A mysterious cleric and alchemist of the 15th century, known for her association with Gilles de Rais (later called Bluebeard). In truth, she was a powerful magus who deceived countless people and allegedly conducted rituals to summon 'demons.' Though her motive for doing so remains unclear, Prelati eventually made contact with an extradimensional evil god, creating a Spellbook that she secretly entrusted to Gilles. Once these actions came to light, she was convicted of extreme witchcraft and summarily executed by the Holy Church.

Her actual goal was to find a Path to the Root - the ultimate ambition of all Magi - by summoning an existence from the Outside of the World. In other words, she tried to form a stable connection with a soul that had already touched the Root and resided within it. If successful, Prelati could have possibly attained True Magic, but instead she failed and ended up connecting to 'another place,' a path that only led to heresy. Her research was subsequently destroyed by the Church, which has no interest in anything beyond the actual world.

Due to censorship by the Church, very few details of her legend have survived to the present day, but even so, her historical infamy was great enough to enter the Throne of Heroes.

Alright, that should be fine - just, if you plan to use it for anything that doesn't already exist, PM it to me first so I can give it the go-ahead.
