Saving The World In Spite of Ourselves

Nyx stood up and smiled at her only to friends well if you could call them that "I'm fine let me get on with my job ok?" With two nods her boss and Dione went back to whatever they were doing before hand "Hey girl don't forget my drink" Nyx rolled her eyes and giggled and poured another drink of Dione "There you go see I can do this job" Nyx laughed but inside she was in turmoil what the hell is happening to me why are these things happening more and more she thought as she was standing waiting for whomever came in next.

As the door opened she saw a couple walk in but they looked out of place and they must of just argued about something, as they got closer to the bar Nyx thought she may just know them there was something familiar about them but with an internal shake of her head she walked up to them "Welcome" was all she said before the man asked her for the drinks she couldn't help the snort of the whole better night than him yeah I wish she thought as she poured the drinks still listening to him. Nyx was almost covered in tattoos and it was always the first thing that was noticed. As she walked back she put on a smile as she was at work she would be nice "Yeah I love my tats I'm hoping to get more but it means traveling far away to see the woman who done all of mine years ago when you find a good tattoo artist you don't want to go to anyone else."

As this guy passed her the shot glass she looked at the woman with him you cheeky bastard she thought "No thanks not while I'm working I'll get sacked" she said and refused the drink as she walked away to get the females drink. Once poured she walked back to the couple and looked at the woman "Here you go, its much nicer than Tequila" she said with a small wink. I have no idea what he's done but as women have to stick together she thought as she turned around and faced the guy again.

"Yeah it can be a friendly place sometimes why you guys thinking of moving here?" Nyx could feel a slight flutter from her wings and was never more glad that her back was away from everyone and hoped they wouldn't see with a quick intake of breath she saw Dione stand up ready to catch her damn it you think i'm gonna black out again she thought but shook her head as if to say I'm fine. Nyx knew that someone had just entered thats why you fluttered for damn sake keep calm she knew the nervous where at an all time high because of the visions she had had in just one day.

"Yeah no worries" With that she poured the newcomers drink and took it over to him she could see in his eyes that he was watching the couple that had walked in oh damn please no fighting on my watch please she thought as she watched the new patrons, Nyx could stop looking at the female there was something about her and if she was who she thought she was Nyx may just have to move again she can't be my tattooist surely and would she out me as a fairy if she is i bloody hope not Nyx thought as she busied herself cleaning the bar.

Dante suppressed the urge to roll his eyes and with his empty shot glasses nudged the tequila in front of Lilth.
"Just a little lover's quarrel is all, we always kiss and make up later, don't we sweetheart?" he asked, wrapping an arm around her shoulders and drawing her against his side, putting as much distance between her and the new man at the bar as possible. Dante had only seen Zoduz in passing a handful of times, but the man was known for being good at what he did and Dante couldn't risk Lilth being his target. He silently hoped that Zoduz didn't recognize him by his old nickname, Dante the Butcher, and decide to make a name for himself by trying to kill him. Or try to kill Lilth. Or both. Dante pretended to kiss her cheek and whispered
"The man next to you is an assassin. Go powder your nose. Now."

Piper hurriedly dialed 911, her shaking hand fumbling over the numbers. When the operator asked her for the address she shoved the phone into Blaze's hands and began to nervously chew at her already-blunted nails.
"What are we gonna do if they don't make it in time? What are we gonna do if she… if she, well…"
"I'm not going to die," Shola muttered. "I've had much worse. Had a horse land on me once."

She tried to push herself up onto her feet, but her legs gave and she fell back against the bloody smear she'd left on the wall. Most of the color was gone from her face and idly she noticed that the beds of her fingernails were turning blue.
"But sometimes I'm wrong. Lots of times, it seems. Lucas, you have standing orders with or without me. They're both Purifiers… Make sure they stay safe, please," she murmured and took in a shuddering breath. Dimly through the window she could make out bright red lights flashing through the window.
If you need a more flexible schedule…
Shola lost consciousness and Piper covered her mouth, scooting away from the door as the paramedics entered. Two began working with her on the floor while another stopped to talk to Blaze.

"What happened here, sir?" she asked.

--"Here you go, its much nicer than Tequila"

Lilith nodded and smiled to the barkeep. The visible tattoos on the woman's body caught her eye for a little longer than was necessary.

I recognize that style..

Afraid of being caught staring, she turned her attention back to Dante and his stupid little innocence act.

"Just a little lover's quarrel is all, we always kiss and make up later, don't we sweetheart?"

Lilith blushed, but not even the color in her cheeks could hide the look of pure disgust on her face. "I think you've had one tequila shot too many.. Sweeeeeeeetheart..." As his arm slipped around her shoulders, she turned just long enough to desperately down the neglected alcohol Dante had earlier slid in front of her. Then, as if the horrors would never cease, he leaned in but only pretended to kiss her cheek.

"The man next to you is an assassin. Go powder your nose. Now."

Lilith's eyes widened. It was a knee-jerk reaction to look in the other assassin's direction, but luckily in the blink of an eye she was able to force her gaze downward. She wasn't sure exactly who Dante was or why karma had decided to torture her with his presence, but something in the way he had just spoken to her communicated the seriousness of the situation they were in. She copied the same cheesy smile Dante had shown earlier and winced as she slipped off the stool and stepped on to her hurt ankle.

"Sweetheart, this bum ankle of mine is starting to really bother me. Why don't you pay the nice lady who made our drinks and let's head out, ne?"

Lucas was assiting the paramedics with Shola. "Orders. Yes, I know. But you are my partner, I won't go anywhere without you. Who will stop me from making all of my stupid decisions?" He asked, knowing that Shola had slipped into the world of unconsiousness. You better be okay, or I will come into the Afterlife, kill you again, then bring you back. He thought. The paramedics had gotten Shola into the back of the ambulance. He then stood silently against the wall, not saying a word. He felt like a lost puppy. He had no idea where he was and didn't know anyone. He looked down and thought about how he would do this if Shola... He didn't want to think like that. Shola had always been his partner, the two always completing missions together. He was feeling scared for Shola. She was his only friend/aquantance and he didn't feel like losing someone else he cared for.

Curtis was walking next to Nico after a long training session. Kurt, Nico's teacher and best friend, decided that the two of them needed a long and relaxing day full of what they loved. Food, swimming, surfing, and more food. The two were headed to a little cafe they loved that was right next to the beach. They normally did this after a long training session, they would go grab some grub to fill their exhausted bodies then hit the waves soon after. "You're getting a lot better, Flutter-Fly." Kurt said, ruffling Nico's hair, and using the nickname he had given Nico so long ago. He knew Nico didn't like it, but he found it funny to watch his friend's reactions.

((Sorry if my post length is back and forth. I'm trying to get into the Paragraph per Post thing and I'm still getting used to it.))

Zoduz was listening in and was annoyed with himself but showed no reaction but a deep sigh and he thought to himself *Great, not only I'm here following them on a gut feeling, they are a bloody cheesy couple, too cheesy*. He glanced round at them, smiled and turned to the bar. He saw the bar lady and he had to try and blend in "Hey missy" he called to the bar lady "Your tattoo's mean anything?" His mind was still elsewhere; Zoduz was never the social type or into integration but something didn't sit right with the ones he was following. Zoduz will have to do something he hasn't done in a long time and actually talk and not chit chat so he waited for his answer from the bar lady before he goes and says hello *Why me* he thought.

Nico rolled his eyes and took a deep breath; He glanced at Curtis with a smile "thanks" he replied. Nico should be used to being called flutter-fly by his best mate but he always lets it slide but Curtis knew him too well and knew it bugged him. Trying to move from the Flutter-fly response "Well, what you munching on when we hit the café I'm guessing your usual" he asked

*Blaze watched as the paramedics rushed in on the scene. He spoke to the lady, before going over to the paramedics side.*

"That thing attacked me, I ruined my house, and then these guys here dropped in."

The pun was wasted on the medic, shame. It wasn't a lie, that really is all I know, I wouldn't believe me if i heard it.

"Hey, she is bleeding badly, can you tell me if she will make it back to the hospital? I can stop the bleeding if it will give her a chance to survive?"

*He knelt down beside them, looking back to the paramedic?*

"Well? Do you think she will make it back to hospital with this bleeding?"

Three newbies in in one day something isn't quite right, maybe my visions have been leading up to this they are all here for a reason she thought as the male from the couple spoke something off with them two to they seem like a couple but the woman was not happy with what he just said. Nyx had to stop herself from laughing she had, had this bar job along time and the main thing you done was people watch and you got use to the little things people done that showed they were lying and that guy was but Nyx just looked up from her cleaning and smiled. "Oh I'm sure you will make up" she said and had to turn before saying anything out of place, the last thing I need is to lose my job she thought as she heard the other guy talk.

"My tattoo's some of them have meaning and some me and my tattooist just thought would go with the rest so she done them but they are a few years old now and it has been to long since I had any art work done, Why do you ask are you to thinking of having something done?" Nyx couldn't stop herself from looking over as the woman left to go to the restroom. She watched as the guy that she was with watched her walk away. Who do I talk to first she thought as she turned her back on the guy who asked about her tattoos. Nyx really wanted to warn the woman about the guy who had followed her and her guy in and was just about to when she felt strange. "Oh shit" was all she got to say before she blacked out.

Nyx opened her eyes and saw the pub but there was something really wrong with the place and it took her awhile to work out what was wrong, "Oh no no please no" she said in her vision as she saw bits and pieces of others thrown around the room in her vision it took everything she had not to bend over double and lose her breakfast. As nyx walked around she could see a few of the regulars well parts of them here and there. Nyx was just walking to the door when she heard a noise behind her and turned around slowly to see this black mass of something "You did all this didn't you?" she asked it just as it got closer she closed her eyes and hoped for the best.

"You do know that all you have to do is beat my ass and I'll stop calling you Flutter-Fly, right?" Kurt said. He knew that Nico hated being called Flutter-Fly with a firey burning passion, but he never stopped him completely. "But yea, a nice shrip cocktail with fried fish and lobter. Mmmmmm, lobster..." He trailed off, practically drooling at the mouth at the thought of lobster. Lobster was pretty much his crack. He loved it and was addicted to it. "But anyway, your usual hotdog with mustard and ketchup, no onions. Maybe you'll have... two?... three?"

Queen Amilah stood among the corpses of the monsters at the tavern, a crowd of people gathering around curiously to see their queen in her night robes and sword, flanked by her two priestesses also in their night dresses. The queen's amber-colored hair fell in loose disarray over her shoulders and her face was etched in grim shadows. Torchlight shivered in the glint of her hard eyes and the steel of her blade, but that night even the fires burned dim as the air stank of fetid dampness and rot around the bodies.
"They were slain before we arrived, then," she said softly and Imal nodded.
"It would seem another Purifier was swept up in the spell that also moved Dante and Lilth to another world. We had been sensing another for quite some time."
"To kill all of them so easily, I can only assume he must have come from that desolate city," Queen Amilah replied and Imal gestured to a throwing star stuck in one of the rapidly-melting bodies.
"I have no doubts."
With a tired gesture Queen Amilah parted the crowd and made her way through, the priestesses trailing behind her. As they wound their way up the hill and away from prying eyes and ears Queen Amilah finally spoke to Imal.
"Have you found others?"
" In addition Semal has been watching two in the water world, a pair of men named Nico and Curtis. She has been watching them closely and reporting their activity to me. So far they are not in immediate danger since the world's magic is so low; it will be difficult for the darkness to sustain its monsters there."
"At least that's good news.

The guards opened the grand gates for the party and no sooner had they crossed over into the first courtyard than a young priestess came running to them, barefoot and barely dressed as her sun-colored hair whipped wildly behind her. In a flurry of dust and little stones she skidded to a halt in front of them and attempted a shaky curtsey, gasping reedily for breath.
"Trouble-- Trouble-- They're all in trouble--"
"Mir, what is it? For the love of the goddesses, compose yourself and speak, child!" Imal shouted, taking the girl by the shoulders.
"In the seeing glass, I saw them. Shoa lies nearly dead and something-- something is closing in on the other party! Darkness and another force more sinister… I saw it," she managed and Semal helped her over and onto a small bench. The queen looked sick and laid a hand on her heart.
"Shola… Imal, can we send them no aid?"
"I used the last of my power to scatter them all, my queen. For now we must trust that they became Purifiers for a reason."

Dante raised an eyebrow at the bartender who had fallen to the floor and was now muttering about something just out of his range of hearing. He was too busy keeping an eye on Zoduz to listen too closely to her and when it was apparent that Lilth couldn't limp to the bathroom on her own he decided to try to get them somewhere secure for the night. Zoduz hadn't even made a move to watch her when she moved and Dante hoped that meant that he had seen the message and lost interest in them. He fished around in his pocket and produced a wadded collection of brightly-colored bills, pushing them at a bartender.
"Looks like your bar woman's freaking out. Think we'd better go. Keep the change," he mumbled and stood, waiting impatiently for Lilth to hobble back. From the back of the bar a man in casual clothing murmured something into the microphone attached to the collar of his shirt upon seeing the cash and another man and woman in reflective glasses and full uniform stepped in. Outside a woman in the same stark black and white uniform tended to an unconscious woman they'd found in an alley next to the bar half-naked and hysterical who had called to report a strange-looking man had assaulted her.

Now as Dante put a firm hand on Lilth's back and guided her towards the door they were stopped by the pair of agents and he was instantly tense, his fingers digging into the flesh of her back.
"Sir, ma'am, you're going to need to come with us now," the man said, flashing a badge. Dante growled and buried a knife in the badge, pinning it to the man's hand with a slender knife. The woman drew a gun but Dante disarmed her with a swift kick to the kidney, one shot grazing his shoulder and shattering a bottle of gin. The gun clattered to the ground, but the woman had a taser and caught him in the stomach with it, sending him to his knees as her partner nearly broke Dante's spine over his knee. From the back the covert agent drew his own gun and aimed it at Lilth's head while from the back the first woman came in unnoticed, another gun aimed at Zoduz.
"You are all under arrest by authority of the Messiah! If you do not comply you will be considered a threat and killed!" the first woman shouted. Bright lights from a massive van flooded the bar windows and Lilth and Zoduz were forced out at gunpoint and into the back of the van, followed shortly by Dante and Nyx. One woman stepped into the back as the others climbed into the front seat and with a dull roar the van began to move. Dante, recovering from the shock of the taser, had managed to get his footing and took an unsteady swing at the woman who promptly tased him again and kicked him onto one of the bench seats lining the walls of the van.
"Interrogation starts now, kiddies. We've gotten tips on all of you and nothing too nice either."
She began to remove her patent leather gloves and Dante made a wretched sound from the floor, a strangled gag, doubling over and coughing up bile. He muttered something incomprehensible and slumped against the wall for a minute before trying to get to his feet for round three. Just as he'd managed to get his feet under him the van screeched to a halt, sending him reeling back and face-first into Lilth's lap. As he struggled away from her arguing voices could be heard outside and the van's doors came flying open. The other woman angrily told them to get out and led them around front where a sleek black car had blocked the van's path. In front of it a woman in a prim plum-colored dress and matching heels stood with her hands clasped neatly behind her back.
"Thank you Ms. Fields, but the Institute will take it from here. If you would please escort our visitors into the car I will see that they reach Dr. King."

She stood by as they were driven into the car and then climbed into the spacious back seat, crossing her legs and placing her hands neatly on her knee.
"I'm sorry you had to go through all of that. Sometimes the Messiah's enforcers can be rather ham-handed. My name is Patricia Quint and I'm with the Psychic Research Institute, or the PRI. We've recently picked all of you up on our radar and would like you to stay with us while we learn a little about where you're from. I'm afraid this is mandatory, and I do apologize. But in the meantime can I offer you some refreshments, or perhaps some first-aid…?"
"Fuck off," Dante muttered and banged his forehead into the window, slumping down in the seat. A series of sharp twitches raced over his face and neck and his head met the glass with a few successively duller thuds.
"Oh dear," Patricia murmured, but turned her bright smile back onto the others.
"Anyone? A soda maybe?"
********************************************
"Without knowing what she is, I can't say if she'll survive or not sir," the paramedic replied as they hoisted Shola onto a stretcher and began wheeling her into the ambulance. They allowed Lucas to board along with her and then the paramedic turned to Blaze and Piper.
"Are you two going to come too?" she asked and Piper looked up at Blaze questioningly.

What the hell? Seriously. What the hell. This pretty much described all of Lilith's thoughts during the entire debacle. This time yesterday, she was sitting at her normal table at one of her favorite taverns and up to her elbows in alcohol and tattoo ink. Now that tavern was destroyed, her tools were broken, she was in a completely new world (that didn't take money, apparently), and karmically attached to this snarky asshole of an assassin or whatever he called himself. She looked to the floor as Dante coughed up bile and her gaze softened a bit. Yes, he was an asshole. In a very deep, deep part of her soul though.. she couldn't help but almost feel a little sorry for him. She sighed as he once again got to his feet, and closed her eyes as the vehicle came to a halt. Once stopped, she opened them, but Dante was no longer standing. In fact, he was now struggling with his head in her lap.

"What the hell, you asshole?!" She gasped, gladly helping him by kicking him back onto his rear. Arguing voices outside of the van quickly caught her attention, but were impossible to understand. The door opened and she winced in the light, but was barely able to make out the woman in purple standing in front of them.

"Thank you Ms. Fields, but the Institute will take it from here. If you would please escort our visitors into the car I will see that they reach Dr. King."

Deciding it best to cooperate for now since no one had really laid hands on her, Lilith allowed herself to be led to the car for the time being. As they reached the door, the escort that had been following closely behind her placed his hands on her shoulders as if to push her in. She quickly wheeled around and let out a somewhat loud, inhuman growl before climbing into the car. Once settled, she placed her hands in her lap and fixed her eyes on the purple woman, leaning as far away as comfortably possible from Dante. She fought a chuckle as the woman commented on his general state of being.

"Anyone? A soda maybe?"

"What the hell. Sure. Any tequila?"

"Oh dear, there's no alcohol allowed on Institute property and I'm afraid this car counts as such. But I can offer you some water or maybe a ginger ale," Patricia intoned politely and Dante, giving a soft 'tch tch' frowned at her.
"Fucking bint. You're going to offer us drinks while you--tchtch-- abduct us? What the fuck is this shit?" he muttered and then glared at Lilth.
"Traitor."
Patricia cleared her throat and re-crossed her legs.
"I think you will find us much better company than being interrogated by the enforcers," she said tartly and briefly consulted her tablet, seeming to send a message before looking back up.
"We will be arriving shortly at the PRI. Each of you will be processed separately with one of our premier psychics just to ensure we're getting all of the correct information from you that we can. The procedure is non-invasive and won't be painful if you don't resist," she finished pointedly and Dante rolled his eyes. Some of his regular coloring seemed to be coming back into his face, but the twitch persisted.
As the car crossed over a hill a towering, uniformly grey building rose up before them. As if the child of Polyphemus a thousand windows seemed to stare out at them, patches and solitary windows alike lit at the late hour. Outside a small group waited for them and Patricia was the first out, her heels clicking smartly on the pavement as she talked to a tall, worried man who nodded gravely and spoke little. They were ushered out of the car, guns politely down but still very present on the orderlies, and taken to separate holding cells.

At the far end of the first, righthand hall Dante was faced with a gangly, nervous redhead who slumped in her chair and picked at scabs on her lips. Her nametag read "Virginia".

Down a set of stairs and in a smaller room Zoduz was introduced to a tall blonde girl with a cruelly twisted mouth and sadistic blue eyes that seemed to crawl under his very skin, the name "Alice" written on her nametag.

In what appeared to be a small examining room farther to the west Nyx was confronted by a shy brunette boy in a loose grey hoodie whose tag read "Nathan".

And finally in a well-lit, large storage room somewhere on adjacent hall to Dante Lilth was met by a pale and elegant girl with a disinterested face and chestnut-colored hair. Her tag, in neat scrawl, read "Persephone".

Nyx opened her eyes slowly to see the the creature that was in front of her had if fact be taken down she, she looked down and could see his body was almost smoking and inside him she could see something growing what the hell is that she thought as she got closer to the thing and poked it with a sword she found laying at her side, the creature didn't move or make a sound so Nyx stood up on rather shaken legs with the help of the sword. Once she was standing above the thing she could see leaves growing from it as if someone had placed a plant inside of its body what the hell why fuck damn it what is going on she thought as she started to walk out of the pub she had called home. Nyx had looked but the three newbies where gone, once she walked outside she looked at herself and saw she was covered in what looked like blood and black stick ink. Nyx you can fight you just have to use your internal self and stop hiding you must fight and you will, Nyx span around to see who had spoken but she couldn't see anyone for miles "who the hell are you give me something I can work with every thing is going to rat and ruin do you not see I'm not the person for this?" she shouted at the body-less voice. But all she got in return was a glittering laugh the echoed off of every surface.

Nyx could feel herself slipping "NONONONOno please no let me stay I want to work out whats happening there must be reason to all off this madness" she said as she could feel life pulling her back. Nyx's eyes where white and more blurry then normal when she returned from where ever she had been, she tried to move her hand to wipe her face but it felt stuck as if someone had put shackles on her "Oh Dione, I'm ok you didn't have to strap me up to have your wicked way with me you only ever had to ask nicely" Nyx said with a smirk. But she heard nothing and she couldn't smell the smell's from the bar what she was use to, where am I she thought everything felt so clinical and clean, Blinking a few times she managed to get her eyes to return to normal where she looked down.

No longer was she slumped on the floor of the bar she was sat in a rather uncomfortable metal chair, dread started to fill her body as she looked up and saw a metal table and then as she looked up more her eyes were truly back to normal, she saw a rather young man in a grey hoodie and a name tag stating he was Nathan. With a slight lump that had raised in her throat Nyx swallowed "Who, the hell are you and where the bloody hell am I?" she asked knowing her eyes shone with anger. The feeling that was inside Nyx now was one she hadn't felt for many years the last time she had had been when she was but a child and some adults whom she didn't know had caught her to see why she would get visions and if they could make or find away for them to stop. Nyx shivered internally as she recounted the memories this is not the time you have more pressing concerns to worry about she told herself and sat there with a steady gaze watching Nathan.

"Well if it would save her life I could cauterize the wounds, if you point out the worst ones. I know its a bit extreme, but given the situation......."

*Blaze looked at the paramedic as he climbed into the back of the ambulance.*

I barely know these people, but they landed in my house, guess in some way that leaves me remotely responsible for them. I don't know much about saving peoples lives, but I know that sometimes they cauterize the wound as a method in the army.

"Traitor."

Lilith ignored Dante and watched out the window. She remained silent as they reached the building that the purple woman had spoken of and cooperated as they were ushered inside. As Dante was escorted in a different direction, her body stiffened. Strange, but knowing that he wouldn't be there to protect her gave her a very uneasy feeling. Passing through a door and into a large warehouse, one of her escorts motioned to the chair in front of her.

"I'd rather stand, thanks." Her request wasn't acknowledged. The men accompanying her sat her in the chair as a pale woman entered the room. Lilith noted the name on her nametag.

"Persephone? Nice name, though a warehouse setting seems a bit too shabby for you, ne? What do you want?"

Zoduz watched as Nyx fell to the floor and the other two were about to leave the place. Before Zoduz had a chance to do anything a gun was pointed at him and judging at the situation he decided it be best to follow. He took a deep breath and held his hands up and followed them.

He was taken to a small room but of course they confiscated all his weapons and bound his hands first and was tied to a chair with his legs tied. He thought to himself that they knew who he was but why was he still alive and that bothered him. Soon enough he was staring into some sadistic blue eyes and it made him shiver for a moment. *Just bide your time Zoduz just bide your time* he kept telling himself. He still managed to keep eye contact but didn't say a word he just waited

-----------------------------------------------

Nico laughed "You know I'll kick your ass at long range weaponry and we are about equal at surfing so need to to keep saying "Flutter-fly"" As he said the word flutter-fly he flapped his arms and made a funny accent with it. Nico smirked which turned to a small laugh afterwards "Just the two for now I think, I had a big fry up this morning"

"We can stop the bleeding, but I honestly have no idea what she is, so I can't tell you if she's lost too much or not," the paramedic said, following the two men to the ambulance as they loaded Shola into the back. Lucas joined them in the back as Blaze crawled into the front seat with the woman and Piper. Lighrs flashing they sped away and out of the neighborhood, soon nearing the main highway. As they got closer to the city traffic began to coagulate until they were at a full standstill in a frozen sea of honking cars, even the medians and shoulders blocked by cars who had tried to beat the main road.
"I can't fucking believe this. What's the goddamn problem?" she yelled, leaning out of the window. With her other hand she turned on the radio to the traffic control station.
"… hole has formed just past exit 116. Nothing has come in or out of it in the nearly thirty minutes it has been open and the contact with the individuals caught inside is still impossible."
"What the--"

There was a deep, loud boom, and then another. The color of the sky began to seamlessly fade from blue to grey and the ambulance's engine abruptly shuddered its last, lights going out in cars all around them. There was a third and final concussive boom that ratted the windows in the front cab followed by a low, humming, sucking sound. Piper screamed, covering her face, and suddenly a black wall was rushing at them, swallowing up anything in its path indiscriminately. The inside of the ambulance lit up in a deep red glow as the darkness swallowed up the hood. There was a terrible crunching sound as it did and before anyone could move from their seat they were awash in darkness and ringing silence. Somehow the IV line in Shola's arm had broken and as they blindly drifted Lucas felt the plastic tubing brush his hand. For a brief moment it lit up, linking his hand to hers, and in that scant heartbeat he could see he and was able to grab the IV to keep her from floating too far away. Somewhere farther away a dull roaring was getting louder and louder and then suddenly they were wet, the cry of strange birds filling up the silence. Hands dug into their wet clothes, hauling them across wet sand and voices rose over the crash of the waves.
"… this one to the medicine house… What's that thing…?"

Lucas's vision came back first and he was greeted with the curious face of a tan woman, her bright blue eyes inquisitive.
"This one's okay!" she shouted back, a sudden gust of wind scattering her brown hair all over her face. Others rushed over and helped him to his feet, plucking and pointing at his uniform. More still had begun to carry Shola back while a small ring of children poked Blaze with a stick. A tall man riddled with scars was carrying Piper over to another house raised on ornate stilts while a woman with a baby on her hip waved at him.
"Asta, bring him along with the woman, will you?" the woman shouted and the blue-eyed woman nodded, helping Lucas to the medicine woman's hut. Inside it smelled strongly of incense and camphor and he was helped into an overstuffed beanbag of a chair while Shola was hoisted onto a rude table. While the old woman, her hair decked in shells and coral, began to probe Shola's wounds Asta sat in front of Lucas and crossed her legs.
"You're a Royal Guard, right? How'd you get into the darkness? What happened?"
------------------------------------------------
Imal looked up from the scrying pool and motioned for Semal to come from her seat in the window. Dutifully the young priestess put down her book and padded over, yawning.
"What's the matter?"
"It seems some of our Purifiers and Shola have returned to Coroco. Somehow they were protected as they passed through the darkness's tunnels between the worlds and ended up in the northern ocean province where the darkness's presence seems to be growing stronger. Go tell the queen so that she can send a party to retrieve them. I fear Shola is not able to travel without help."
"Right away," Semal replied and took off running for the palace courtyard.

Alice grinned and cracked her neck, sashaying up to Zoduz and putting her hands on her hips, leaning down into his face.
"So, you're gonna play it all cool, huh? Pretend like you're all big-bad?"

Zoduz felt a sharp pinch at the base of his skull and then an almost too-full sensation in his skull as though someone had begun to fill it with water. Alice's eyes glinted like poisoned ice and when she smiled it was nothing but malice. Her buzzing, insistent voice filled his ears and the edges of his vision exploded in technocolor while the middle dimmed to greyscale. Behind her a staticy image began to take shape, slowly becoming the body a ragged man, throat slit.
"Go on Zoduz, tell your father why you couldn't save his life. Tell him what you've been doing with your life, tell him why you're here instead of trying to find his killer," she droned, her voice pressing down on his eardrums. She filled him up inside, her hateful voice squeezing out even the air in his lungs.
"Tell me," she said again somehow through her cruel, unmoving smile.

Nyx's interrogator, Nathan, seemed reluctant to engage her. He picked at the frayed hem of his hoodie and refused to look her in the eyes, instead bowing his messy brown head and looking at his sneakers. Both could tell the other was a psychic, but his signals were dim and timid, barely registering at all to Nyx. When he finally looked up at her he frowned and muttered:
"I never wanted to do this in the first place. What am I supposed to do with you…?I'm a failure, why did they even bother?"

Like Zoduz, Dante fought Virginia's intrusion, but unlike Alice Virginia's power was too great for her to need cruelty to break him down. However, she had not bargained on what Dante kept concealed in the shameful corners of his mind. All too quickly Ginny learned why Dante fought her and the flood of memories crushed them both like paper flowers. Sights and smells overcame her. A grinning pair of ruby red lips, a cigarette stubbed out and ashes littered across his thighs, circular scars like stars from his knees to his navel, being dragged out of a closet, blood, spit, musk, ammonial fear, disgust, and hate, hate, hate and hate so like fear it was impossible to tell the difference and fear so strong it made her sick on the clean, shiny floor and memories of being yanked away from a toilet, tiny hands scrabbling, pleading, slick suffocation and then blood. Blood on every surface and running down his legs and blinding them both. Ginny screamed and covered her face, then her ears, and then her face again, writhing in the chair and kicking the legs with her sneakers. Another woman's face with pale hair was transposed over the cruel woman's and she felt the crippling fear twist her stomach again.
"Stop! Stop!" she screamed, but he didn't seem to hear. His face was vacant and his only reply was
"Tchtch."

Persephone linked her hands behind her back and sighed. She looked bored and distant, as though whatever was going on was beneath her.
"If you fight me, you will not win and it will only be pain without need."
Her entrance into Lilth's mind was more subtle, more gentle, but just as deep. Persephone also possessed the power to not need cruelty or showmanship. She had been playing checkers when summoned and wanted to return. As she probed Lilth's mind and memories she came upon something inhuman, something vicious, and gave a start when she stumbled right over the beast.

"What are you?!"

Lilith rolled her eyes. "Trust me. The past day or so has been filled to the rim with 'pain without need'." She stared at Persephone as she followed the girl through her own memories. Tears formed in her eyes as they focused briefly on two people that she had not seen in many years, not even in her thoughts-- her parents. Unfortunately, along with these memories of her parents came others. Other not-so-happy memories. Lilith gasped and looked nervously at Persephone, her eyes widening.

"What are you?!"

Lilith remained silent, trying to come up with some type of explanation of what the girl had just seen. Defeated in this sense, she sighed and spoke softly.

"Nothing that you want to get involved with. For your sake."

The pain was getting to much for Zoduz but he didn't have any answers he wish he did that's why he was here. But the mention of his father threw him out the anger built up and up. He was getting hard to breath he felt like passing out. Only thing what kept going through his mind was the image of his father. The pain, anger and close to death brought strength in him he never knew he had and managed to rip open his bounds and now free to move grabbed Alice's hand and threw her towards the door.

Quickly he grabbed the chair he was sitting on and went to the far end of the room. He stood there hand on chair and his wrists were noticeable bleeding. He knew this and also his ankles were bruised very badly. He stayed there standing and breathing heavily "You.....want.." He held his free hand up and pointed upwards with his index finger to say give me a minute "me.....talk.... you....stay" giving Alice an icy stare

He might not be able to talk but hell he was getting grief from some punk ass woman about his father. Anger stayed with him eyeing up Alice and more people who have come scrambling into the room. Zoduz wondered where this might lead and he bets they know more than he does and he wanted answers the same as them so he will talk but not like it was before he'd rather die.

He be happy enough on this side of the room with them blocking the door. Also making sure that Alice woman won't come any closer.

Lucas nodded. "I am a Royal Guard and I have no idea how I got here." He said, glancing over to Shola every few seconds, ready to jump over to her at a moments notice.

What was he doing? Where was he? Wasn't there something important going on? The darkness, the explosions, I was in the ambulance, I feel cold....

*Blaze slowly began to wake up.*

We are not safe, something is wrong, where am I? Is this the doing of those monsters? I must stop them.

*He began to heat up rapidly, his arms bursting with flames along with his legs, still not awake, he began to thrash angrily sending flames outwards as he extends his arms and legs.*
