Running scared

Inside her mind, Keira tried to repeat what he had said, listen to it again. Window, was that it? She looked at it, put her palm against it and then hit it slightly. It made her feel trapped - seeing freedom but not being able to touch it made her frustrated. She tilted her head, trying to see the bird, but she couldn't. Where had it gone? She glanced at him, and then she remembered the banana that he had given her. She looked back at the bed, and it was still there. She went back there and sat down.

The bird didn't concern her too much, after all, she killed animals to eat, as well. She glanced at the window as she grabbed the banana. Was he going to go out there and get it? She looked at him, anxious as she realized what she, and probably he, was thinking. The bird and her, were they the same? Was she also an animal to him? After all, he had captured her, like the bird. She looked around anxiously, for anything that could be used as a weapon against her. She spotted a lamp standing on a table by the bed, and she crawled over there. She tried to take it, but as she pulled, she noticed something holding onto it - some kind of white, plastic rope. She pulled but it wouldn't let go. She looked at him, anxiously, thinking that maybe what she was doing was wrong. She pulled as hard as she could, thinking that she needed to get it before him, and so she finally succeeded. She fell backwards as the white rope let go of the lamp, but she was back in a sitting position in just a few seconds.

Galen wondered if Kiera was trying to repeat his words inside her mind. He knew that she understood he was saying stuff, that she could hear his voice and the strange sounding noises that were coming out of them. He watched her lightly hit the window and wondered if she felt trapped in the cabin. She probably did. Then, Kiera went back to the bed and sat down, grabbing the banana and glancing at the window and then him. He felt a little bad; he didn't want her to feel trapped and uncomfortable, but he also wanted her foot to heal properly.

He walked over next to her, but not too close. The girl then moved and tried to take the lamp that was sitting on one of the end tables by the bed. However, she tried to take it and the plug kept her from taking it. Galen wondered why she would try to take the lamp, and when she finally got the lamp, the cord broke off from it. Galen didn't get upset - he had another lamp somewhere around there.

"Oops, you okay?" he asked, smiling as he walked over to her. "That's a lamp. It gives off light."

((If you think this is "too much", I can change it. Just let me know.))

Keira looked at him as he walked closer to her, holding the lamp tight in her dirty hands. She looked at it, and then at him. It didn't seem like he had planned on attacking her, she thought, and relaxed a little. Maybe he wasn't as dangerous as she had thought - up to this point, he hadn't done anything to harm her, really. She still didn't understand why he'd captured her, and she was still waiting for the answer. She didn't understand why he kept being so nice - if he was going to eat her, why not kill her right away?

She thought of what she would have done if this was outside, where she lived. What would have happened if he was out there, knowing as little as she knew about this place? She glanced at the window and then towards the door. This was just as the cage - just a bit bigger. No sky, no breeze of the wind in her hair or face. She looked at him again, as if she had forgotten about him. She flinched, as if she had expected him still sitting in the chair. She let go of the lamp, slowly, and then she reached towards him, still with that alert and careful gaze of hers.

In a blink of an eye, she scratched his face, and with all the force she had, she pulled him backwards, making both of them fall to the ground. Her mouth was close to his throat and she held onto him as hard as she could as she tried to bite his throat so that it bled - just as she would do with any other animal.

(( Oh, no, it's perfect! haha [: We need a little action like this. ))

Galen waited for Keira to do something. She seemed to relax for a second, and when she slowly let go of the lamp, he smiled again. When she started to reach towards him, his eyes widened. Were they going to have a bonding moment of some sort? What happened next was definitely not what Galen expected.

He howled in a bit of pain when he was scratched in the face - the girl lunged forward and caught his left eye and cheek with her nails. He covered his face with one of his hands as he was pulled backward by her. He felt her warm mouth on his throat and felt her teeth trying to bite at it, as if she was trying to kill him. He didn't want to hurt her, but he didn't want to be killed by her either. He pushed her off of him with both his hands. It was easy for him, since he was muscular and much stronger than she was. But she had the instinct to survive and that usually surpassed just brute strength.

Galen stood up quickly, his left eye shut from being scratched at. His face burned from the wound, but it was only a minor one. He held up one hand and opened it, motioning for her to stop. What had made her do this to him? Did she really want to be free that badly? But he didn't want to let her go...

(( Maybe he could open the door and motion for her that she was free? And then later in the night, when Galen is sleeping, she goes back to the cabin because her foot hurts really bad and he's the only one that she thinks could help her or something? Or what do you have in mind? ))

Keira stopped, looking at him, alert. Was he giving up? She growled slightly, unsure of what to do. She got back to the bed, carefully because of her foot, that was hurting even more after what had just happened, and she sat down. She glanced at him - it looked like he was hurt. She looked at her foot, moaned quietly as she moved it, and then she looked around. She glanced at him again before she slowly made her way to the window. She looked out to see the outside - it seemed to be getting darker. She put her palm towards it and looked at it, put her face towards it, realizing that there really was no way out. She went back to the bed and sat down and looked at him again.

((Yes, that could work. I have another idea as well - I'm thinking that maybe he could keep her there although she's acting out - in your first post, you wrote that Galen had been working for three years, and finally got a change to make it big, really big. Would he let her go that easily? I mean, she's wounded, and she's a human... you know what I mean? After all, it's the first time they meet - no wonder it's a bit tension between them.))

(( Yes, you have a good point. He wouldn't let her go that easily but he feels hopeless because she doesn't know how to talk and she doesn't really understand him. He's kind of an impatient guy, but Kiera will make him learn more patience the longer they're together. However, since Kiera is just a human, he knows that he won't make it as big as he would have if Kiera was a creature. But maybe I'll just have Galen keep her there then and be sure to lock the door. Maybe watch her until she falls asleep and then he falls asleep as well. ))

Galen could open his eye slightly as a few minutes passed. All he did was watch Kiera go to the bed, then the window, and back to the bed again. She had moaned and looked at her foot, indicating that it was in even more pain after all the commotion that just had happened. He stayed where he was, but pointed to the roll of bandages.

"Please let me wrap your foot," he said, then pointing to his own foot and pretending to wrap it with invisible bandages. "It'll make it feel better." He couldn't let her go. What if she never came back? What if they never ran into each other again? Galen was going to finish this mission, even if it would take a while.

((Sounds good. ^_^))

Keira looked at him in silence. He seemed calm. His voice didn't sound upset or strange in any way - it sounded almost as it had done all along. It made her feel a bit better, knowing that he wasn't hurting her. She was still paying attention to what he was doing, following every move he made. She looked at him as he wrapped his own foot in invisible bandages. She looked at her own, and after a few moments of hesitating, she moved a little closer to him. She put her foot out towards him, looking at him with pretty calm eyes, after all.

Galen's lips turned into a soft smile when the woman seemed to understand what he was saying. She had stuck out her foot and moved a bit closer to him. He moved cautiously, not wanting to get scratched again, after all. He picked the bandages up from the bed before kneeling down in front of her foot. He unrolled the bandages and touched a little bit above her ankle. He didn't mind the hairiness of her legs. He actually didn't mind any of the woman's attributes as most people would have. She was covered in dirt and hair, but that was everybody's natural state. The only thing he wondered about was where she had gotten the night gown. If she had never been in the city, how did she get it? Did she steal it from somebody when they were camping? He didn't know.

He looked at her to make sure it was okay for him to continue before he started to tightly wrap her ankle and foot. She would probably be uncomfortable, but it was for her foot and she'd have to deal with it, at least for a little while. When he was done, he set the roll on the end table and stood up slowly, looking down at her with only kind eyes. "Finished," he said.

Keira looked at him, not as scared as before. She felt more relaxed now that she knew what he was going to do, at least, she had a clue. As he started to wrap her ankle and foot, she flinched slightly. She tried to sit still though, she wanted him to be able to do what he was doing without her making it harder for him. To her, it seemed like he wanted to help her. And since everything was so strange to her, she had to trust him, that he knew what he was doing. She didn't really trust him, but what could she do?

When he finished, she looked at her foot, touched the bandages slightly with her fingertips. After looking at it for a few seconds, tilting her head, she looked at him. It felt rather uncomfortable, but she tried not to think about it too much. She yawned slightly, realizing that she should get some sleep. She looked around, unsure of where to go, now that she was in a place she didn't know. She looked at him, wondering if he was tired. Did he sleep, too? She carefully went down from the bed, and crawled underneath it.

Galen was glad that the brown-haired, brown-eyed girl seemed to trust him, at least a little bit, now. Maybe she just had to get everything out of her system and that's why she attacked him. But he still needed to be a little cautious. When she yawned, Galen looked at her and then outside. It was dark outside now. It was usually pretty cold at night, so he went to the fireplace. He looked back to the girl to see that she was climbing under the bed. Maybe she felt safe under there...

Since he didn't have electricity in the cabin yet, he had to make fires to keep warm. He wondered if she had ever seen a fire or if she knew how to make one. He prepared the fire and soon had one going, poking at it before going to the bed and kneeling so he could look underneath. "I have a fire going. It'll keep us warm during the night. Are you tired? You can sleep in my bed, it'd probably be more comfortable than under it."

Keira had listened to him as he went out of the room, and then relaxed, trying to get some sleep. She listened with one ear to what was going on, even though she at the same time had closed her eyes, feeling that she was finally able to get some sleep. As she was almost asleep, she opened her eyes when she heard his voice. Her eyes widened as she saw where he was, and she flinched slightly. She looked at him, more alert.

She didn't really understand what he was doing, why he was there, but she soon crawled out from underneath the bed. She looked at him as she sat on it, and a few seconds later, she laid down and curled up.

Galen saw how alert she became when she saw that he was right there. He backed up when she crawled out from underneath the bed. When she laid down and curled up, he gently laid a blanket on top of her. "Goodnight," he said softly. Then, he went into the other room and sat in front of the fire. He would wait for her to fall asleep before he did, wanting to make sure it was all safe and that she would be okay. After around 10 minutes, he got up and quietly went back to the bed, looking to see if she was asleep.

((Hope it's OK that I fast forwarded a bit?))

Keira was curled up in the bed, asleep. Her breathing was regular and calm, for now at least.
~
She opened her eyes, and at first, she didn't understand where she was. She looked around, and soon she remembered what had happened. She sat up and looked out the window - it wasn't dark anymore. She thought it was oddly quietly inside, which surprised her, since she usually woke up in a totally different way.

(( Totally fine. [: ))

Galen nodded when he saw that Kiera was asleep. With that, he made sure the fire wouldn't devour anything while they were sleeping before he laid down on the couch, wrapping himself in a blanket and falling asleep.

The next morning, Galen woke up earlier than Kiera had. He was making scrambled eggs when she woke up and he greeted her with a smile. "Hungry? I'm making some eggs and toast. You want some?"

Keira looked at him, at what he was doing. Some kind of food, she thought, taking a few steps closer. It didn't look like the usual food, the food she was used to. She tilted her head slightly, and then she sat down on the floor. She looked at him as he was doing whatever he was doing - she didn't know since she hadn't seen it before. It sounded weird though, unfamiliar, a bit scary at first. After a while of hearing it though, she didn't mind that much. She could hear that her stomach was hungry, she hadn't eaten for quite some time. How long had it been? It felt like ages to her, since she hadn't eaten anything while she had been with him.

Galen smiled at the girl. He was just so fascinated by how fascinated she was by everything. He heard her stomach growl and he soon finished the eggs, putting a pile on one plate and other pile on another plate. He pulled out some ketchup and poured it over his eggs before putting some bread in a toaster. After everything was ready, he set the two plates on the counter. He sat down and motioned for Kiera to sit down next to him. He set a fork down next to the plate just in case she wanted to use it like he was. Otherwise, he was fine with her eating with his hand. He also put the ketchup there if she wanted ketchup. "Did you sleep well?"

Keira watched him as he got everything ready, and then, when he motioned for her to sit down next to him, she hesitated. She stood up and walked over there, carefully, and looked at it, the counter, him, the food. She sat down next to him after having a closer look at everything, and then she looked at the food. She glanced at him as he spoke to her. She thought of what he had said, listening to the words once again, inside of her mind. She looked at him, thoughtfully.

She touched the egg on her plate carefully, and she took a piece of it with her hand, and put it in her mouth. She chewed it and swallowed, glanced at him as if she was still suspicious of what was going on. She kept eating though, and a while later, she had finished, although it had taken some time, not being used to eat that kind of food, and not really in that way, either.

Galen grinned when the girl finally sat down next to him and started eating. He motioned with small nods to let her know that it was okay to sit down, okay to eat, and any time that she looked at him with some fear or confusion in her eyes. He was glad that she was eating, and when she was done, he finished as well. He put the dishes in the sink. "Did you like it? Those were called scrambled eggs, the yellow food. And the bread was just toasted."

Keira looked at him, licked her lips a little, and stood up. She nodded slightly, hoping that it was what he was looking for. She thought of what he had said, tried to listen to it again, any words that she would recognize. Like? She tasted at the word in her mouth without making a sound, but moved her mouth as if she would have.

She scratched her head and sat down on the floor.

Galen felt triumphant when Kiera nodded, showing that she understood something. When she sat down on the floor, he didn't really know what to do. He wanted for her to be comfortable around him at all times before he took her to the city. He had to report in with his boss in about a week or so, and that meant driving into the city. He needed to make real progress with her by then, whether that meant leaving her alone in the cabin/wilderness or taking a trip with her into the city.
