Remnants

She shook his hand, still a bit shaky. "Yeah... I just really don't like thunder," she sighed, curling back up. She was a bit ashamed of this fear, but it only recently plagued her. She seemed a little more relaxed now that she realized he was really friendly.

Rose was starting to get a little bored. The rain had just started, she would probably need to patch up the area around trapdoor. Work, work, work. She was starting to feel a bit sick, but she didn't know what was wrong. "Stay strong," she told herself. "Thats what Daddy said," she added to that with a slight lisp. She remembered she used to read cutesy magazines. She liked those. Maybe if she found other people they would have... No. Mummy had said not to trust anyone, or anything. They were all mean. The plan she decided was to patch up the forest floor and redesign the trapdoor covering, then maybe scavenge for materials.

(right... NOW!)
Scott woke up after the short nap. Something had changed in the basement. Having a look around the room, Scott saw what was wrong. Zero had gone, although likely not far. After all, the storm was still going on outside. Getting up and gathering his things, Scott walked up the short flight of stairs to the trapdoor. Stepping out into the lobby, he saw Zero leaning on the counter. The rain was starting to calm down, and there was a lack of strong winds. He stood there, waiting for Zero to say something.

Zero glanced back when she heard someone come up the stairs, and once she noticed it was Scott she stirred uncomfortably in her seat. Rising to her feet, she set what was left of the drink on the counter and stretches her arms. "I suppose I should say thanks, huh? For not killing us and for being part of the rescue team.." She mumbles, her speech slirred but only slightly. She discovered over night she would need a lot more alcohol if she wanted to get drunk. She looked out the window, frowning at the gray splattered window before turning her gaze back to Scott.

Scott looked at Zero, thinking back to the facility before saying in a serious but friendly tone "I wouldn't call it a rescue team... And thanks are not in order." Scott walked up closer, standing beside Zero. Noticing the near empty whisky bottle, Scott assumed she has turned to drink. He took of his rucksack, taking out a small metal drinking flask. Gesturing towards her, he said "Try some of this, it's good. Vodka." Before unscrewing the bottle and offering it to her.

Zero paused, looking at the flask. She sighed a little, then takes the flask from him. "Vodka..?" She repeated and took a sip of the flask. It burned down her throat, but her head felt fuzzy almost instantly. She relaxed slightly and leaned against the counter, taking a much longer drink the second time before handing it back to Scott. It was stronger, but the effects weren't entirely the same as for an average human. It was pretty damn close though, and she was greatful for that.

Watching Zero drink the Vodka, Scott realised that she must not have really drunk much before she escaped. She seemed like she was experimenting, a look of relaxation and surprise coming on to her face when she took a swig of the flask. Taking it back from her, he himself took a sip and experienced the fuzzy feeling that was familiar to himself. He watches as the winds died down more and the rain started to stop, watching the clouds move on further. He looked over at Zero, asking "So where are you headed to now?"

Zero stirred in her spot as she thought, hee fingers busting themselves with trying to pull out a string on her shirt. "Anywhere . Hopefully somewhere safe. Well, as safe as things can get in this screwed up world." She spoke, her voice slurred as the alcohol set in. Frowning, she eventually yanked the string out and examined it before dropping it to the floor and looking up at Scott. "What about you? Where are you heading?" She asked with curiosity, her hands holding onto the counter behind her to keep her steady since the blasted ground seemed to be moving and trying to trip her. Stupid ground.

"Where am I headed?" Scott said as he thought about the question. After a short pause, he said "Well, the same as you really. Anywhere safe and secure, as well as looking for supplies. Aparently there's some kind of military armory around here. Although it's next to the place they used to test chemicals and God knows what's been happening there..." To be honest, Scott had a picture of what it would be like there. Grim...

She ran a hand through her red hair, then briefly brushed her eye covered with bandages as she thought over what he said. It took her a little time to process what he said. "What type of weapons do they have there? Anything bladed?" Her tone turned more serious. She needed weapons, everyone did, just to survive most places now a days. And if she was going to get Twelve somewhere where she could grow up safe and sound, she would need weapons to destroy anything dangerous that got in there way. Sure, she could use her beast like side effects, but it would be safer with weapons. Zero couldnt control herself once she... Turned. She destroyed and killed everything. Pushing the thought out her head, she focused on Scott.

"Blades? Well... I suppose they'd most likely have knifes, maybe some bayonets. If you're thinking of something like a sword, then maybe. To be sure, you'd have to actually go there and look." Scott replied to Zero's rather strange question. In his opinion, guns were far better suited to killing mutants than swords and knives. Although, it'd be nice to have company on the way. Somewhere in the back of his mind he hoped she would ask to come along.

Zero thought over joining him, or at least asking to join him. She tilted her head from side to side as she mulled over the good and the bad aspects of joining him. Good, she could use the company of someone who wasnt a child, it would provide more protection since there is safety in number, plus she could have more of that drink he offered. Bad, she didnt know him, he could be a dangerous monster like her, and he was, well, a guy. Males still didn't sit well with her. But she pushed it aside because she needed the weapons. "Mind if we join you? We could use the weapons.." She asked him hesitantly.

Scott was relieved that she was asking to come with her. If he had to spend another day out in the God damn city he thought he would kill himself. So, without hesitation, he answered "Yes, that would be fine. I could use the company." All the while he tried not to sound too enthusiastic, although he didn't really hesitate to answer. "I'll pack my things. We leave at sunrise, which should be soon." He looked out of the doorway, seeing the sky starting to turn lighter and blue. Dawn would be soon.

Zero nodded. She decided she should start waking up Twelve to get ready and go, so she walked to the stairs. Her steps were steady, but only slightly. Especially when she got to the stairs her legs didn't seem to cooperate with her for a little bit, but she didn't bother stopping. Once she made it to the basement, she made her way to Twleve's sleeping body. Oli's two heads were wide awake and meowed as Zero approached. Zero patted the kittens head and knelt down, lightly shaking Twelve. "Twelve, wake up. Were going to be leaving soon. We have a companion to travel with now." Her voice had a soft motherly touch to it, her body beginning to sober up. Twelve stirred, pushing her blonde hair out her face and sat up. Twelve yawned, stretching out her arms and her white wings, then struggled to stand up and shake off her sleepiness.

Watching Zero go down the stairs, Scott shortly followed after her, taking a swig of whisky and making a mental checklist of his things. All he needed now was his Kalashnikov, the spare ammo and the ration pack he had left on the crate. He walked down into the basement as Zero woke up the small girl, noticing that the kitten the girl had was two-headed. He wasn't really a fan of mutants, but failed to see the down sides of a two headed kitten. Apart from two more mouths to feed. He grabbed his rifle and the ammo, putting the ration pack into his rucksack. He then slung the gun onto his shoulders and put on the ammo bandolier again, then stood up and waited for Zero to be finished.

Rose must of fell asleep. She sat up and dragged herself off the bed. "What am I gonna do today?" she whispered to herself. "Oh right." Rose remembered. She didn't exactly enjoy work, but she knew she had to do it or else a nasty person might find her. She jumped up, hitting the trapdoor open, then climbed out. The sight was disastrous, the forest floor uneven and hundreds of creatures dead on the ground. Rose grinned, the animals must of died a horrible death. Wonderful. She quickly grabbed a few and covered her trapdoor, as well as plunking chunks of the hissing ground on top as well. That was easy. Now she gonna go find materials from people who didn't survive the storm. Not many most likely. The six year old trotted along singing the ants go marching.
"The ants go marching one by one
Hoorah! Hoorah!
They all go marching to the ground, to get out of the rain... " she sung.
"But none of them escaped," she added smugly.

Zero dusted off Twelve, smiling at her. Twelve simply looked at Scott confused. But nonetheless she smiled brightly and waves at him. "Im Twelve! Who are you? Are you coming with us? What's with all the guns? Did you use to be a hunter?" Twelve opened her mouth to say more but Zero frowned at her.

"Don't ask so many questions. It's too early in the morning for you to be so hyper." She mumbled to the little girl and scooped up the kitten, placing it in the backpack so it's head poked out the top and swung the backpack onto her own shoulders. She stood up, looking at Scott. "We are ready to go."

Brushing off Twelve's comments with "Hunter. Yes, something like that." Scott checked he had everything with him and stood up, turning to Zero. He suddenly became less light-hearted than he had been before, adopting a serious tone and unrolling a map of the area that has been tied to his rucksack. "We are heading south, further into the city. The Armory is just north of the chemical testing plant, which is located here." He said, pointing to a circled area around one and a half kilometres away from their position. "It will be a fairly long walk, longer than it looks as a result of having to navigate the streets. Be on guard for mutants or worse, other humans. People can be unpredictable. Animals, however, whilst still hard to judge follow natural instincts. Most of the things I've seen out here are scared of gunfire when they're alone. It's just the packs you have to watch out for." Scott added, before rolling the map back up and walking up the stairs to the lobby. He then made his way outside and stood on the street, waiting for Zero.

Zero nodded as he spoke while Twelve folded up the blanket and stuffed it in a back pocket, then took Twelves hand and lead her up the stairs. She gathered a few thing she had found from last night and walked out to meet Scott. She looked down at Twelve, who had run and picked up an odd looking dandilion with white spots all over it. It seemed go be an effect from the radiation. She ran pack and tucked the flower into Zero's belt loop on her pant and smiles. She took Zeros hand again as they waited for Scott to lead the way.
