Not Without Honour

  • So many newbies lately! Here is a very important PSA about one of our most vital content policies! Read it even if you are an ancient member!
Agreed! He's a lot cooler now! I can even see Yurie falling for him.
Honestly the first cx was more of a joke then anything else. I dont know what I was thinking when I first made Nishi. He is much better lol

Revision for Nishi's impression on Kirihime, next line! @Tone Deaf
Norisane-san - Naturally, Kirihime wouldn't mind him for being of foreign descent, since racism doesn't align with her progressive outlook. As a samurai, however, she is weary of him, both for being a ronin relatively recently, and because of his father's disgrace, feeling a parallel to her own brother. Nevertheless, he seems an enjoyable sort. She is prepared for any potential betrayal, but also feels oddly comfortable around him.

She would be able to respect him entirely if he could show his loyalty to Kanegawa-dono. Perhaps if the two escorted him as colleagues. Should his drinking get any worse, however, she would not be able to respect him. He smells of alcohol, but never seems very drunk at any time. She might find him appealing if he takes note of her interests. Anything from giving her glamorous yukata to conversing about each other's families is likely to tip her off.

Kage had an adventure! ....To the ER. One panic attack, cute nurse and asinine doctor later, I am feeling no better. My dominant hand is currently not working well, but the burning injection in my leg is supposed to make things dandy. I will make sure to give you all an update tomorrow. Also, I wanted to let you know that this in no way slows the progress of this rp. (I have found I can type with one and a half hands pretty well.)

Tone, I will be double-checking the new Nishi-san tomorrow, and shall let you know if anything needs to be altered as soon as I can. Thank you for being patient.

I have chronic pain in my back due to various injuries, the main side effect being deep-tissue knots and muscle spasms. The worst are always in my shoulders and this time one has formed on a nerve bundle. Earlier today, the pain suddenly became excruciating and I slowly lost use of my left shoulder/arm. I was finally convinced to go in to try and get a lidocaine injection (the only thing that has helped in the past), and the ER doctor treated me like I was faking it because I knew what I needed/wanted in regards to the treatment of my own body. Instead they offered me an injected anti-inflammatory and high-powered pain meds (which were somehow better to give to me than a numbing agent). I asked for the AI injection, then walked out. I hate hospitals.

Now, I am being yelled at to get some rest- I will be back on tomorrow to deal with RP business and any other questions.

Take your time Kage, fuck stupid doctors! I will be here all day since I just finished throwing up in my toilet and I am not going to work like that xD

Thanks, but I am doing better tonight. The pain is almost back down to a tolerable level and I can move my forearm without much issue. Begrudgingly, I am making an appointment Monday to see if my doctor will give me the lidocaine injection. I am sorry to hear you are ill, though, I hope your issue goes away quickly.

About Nishi-san, there are two things I can see that may need correcting. First off, there is a bit of a technicality regarding him having been a ronin. This is a bit of a grey area in Japanese culture and history, but he may have not been considered one. Since he was born before his father became a ronin, he was, indeed, born to a samurai bloodline. However, if he was not yet old enough to have started training, his father's shame could very well carry on to him, making him a ronin as if he was born to one. I would need his age at the time of the banishment to have a clear answer. The second issue is that he would never carry his wakizashi on the hip opposite of his katana- the two are always worn together by samurai, the set being called daisho. Wearing daisho blades is a physical representation of the honour of samurai. This makes an interesting challenge for those that use nitojutsu, and is something you need to keep in mind when it comes to battle.

I am fine with Hiroyuki and Norisane having sparring matches, though I assume you mean that neither has bested the other in said duels? I do have to question how Norisane finds Hiro to be easy-going, though. The man is rather dry, serious and taciturn, so rather than being relaxed, he just rarely mentions when something bothers him. I suppose I can see how that could translate to easy-going to some people, but I just don't see it.

Nishi would have been 12 at the time of his and his fathers banishment and I will rewrite the part about the Wakazashi on being on his other hip. (I am not very well versed in japanese culture so thank you for pointing that out. Yes I meant that neither had bested the other in a duel and a uy who says almost nothing yet will sit down and listen to everything you say with serious and objective veiw, that is absolutely the perfect best friend xD

Hm, an age that makes even more of a grey area. He was old enough to have been training for at least seven years, but not old enough to be officially called a samurai. I am going to lean on him not being considered a ronin unless the Daimyo of Tetsu-Tousho specifically condemned the entire Nishi line, which would have been a bit extreme for the situation. However, a particularly volatile and spiteful Lord may do such a thing. Should you choose for his father to have just been condemned, you should know that he would then not have been recognised as a samurai until he began working for Kanegawa. Another thing to note is that a citizen being trained as a samurai without being under a Daimyo is a crime. A ronin training someone as a samurai is also a crime, so it is a bit of a double-hitter. It is up to you if you wish to change anything. I think either option is pretty interesting.

That is perfectly fine then. Hiro could go for some in-house rivalry. And, I suppose he makes good company if you enjoy spending time with statuary. *laughs* If you give him enough sake he might just say something in return.

Nishi-san being a criminal until officialy working under Kanegawa? WHo doesn't like a crime doing bad boy? I beilive thats the perfect backround for my character. I will not be changing anything and shall post sometime soonish

There you are guys. FINALLY POSTED, The true Nishi-san shall prevail.

I've been a sloth, sorry. ._.

Makoto would likely get along quite well with Nishi. In general, he would very much enjoy discussion and light debate -- so long as it is light-hearted. He is very much willing to discuss serious topics, though it would not be something he made light of. He would also have little to no issue with Nishi's drinking, so long as he maintains a clear head when necessary.

Having the chance to read a post from each of you, I have decided to re-write Hiroyuki's views on them. I feel a lot happier with these descriptions. I am also finally writing out the possibilities of which directions these relationships could go. Better late than never, ne?

As far as romance goes, there are very, very slim chances for anyone with him. Frankly, he does not know what romance is, nor real love. Lust, on the other hand... Due to being aware that he does not understand the emotions in himself or others very well, he accepts this fact, and feels no remorse or loss over the topic. It would not be efficient nor logical for him to attempt crossing that line, as it would likely lead to confusion and distraction, things he does not feel he can afford to have. That being said, if a particularly stubborn and patient person was persistent, they may get under his shell and open up a glimmer of hope. Maybe.

Nishi-san- Having listened to night after night of stories and babble from the man, he has formed a sort of fascination with Norisane. This is caused by not only his obvious gaijin heritage, but the life he has. Having been tucked away in a small corner of the county most of his life, Hiro finds the accounts of travel and adventure appealing in a way he cannot quite explain; perhaps a yearning, or even envy. There are still constant annoyances, such as Norisane's drinking and stubbornness, but these things help fuel the frequent, friendly duels the two engage in. The only thing that may cause a fight between them is the issue of forgiveness. Hiroyuki sees Norisane as soft and wistful for believing that everyone deserves a second chance. Of course, there is also the issue of Norisane's fondness of sake- should it ever inhibit his ability to serve Kanegawa, Hiroyuki would be one of the first to call him on it and issue a punishment.

If Norisane should prove that he can, indeed, set a rational line which forgiveness cannot be given, Hiroyuki's overall respect for him would increase. As well, should his drinking be limited to when it is considered socially appropriate, his overall respect and fondness would grow. Another thing that would raise his opinion is if Norisane actually defeats him in a duel. Should he do something foolish, such as allowing himself to get sloppy due to drinking or his soft heart, Hiro would regard him as lesser; wasting his skills and unfit for his duty.

Suda-san- Due to her quiet and reserved nature, Hiroyuki is very comfortable with Yurie, though not very close. They both like to have their silence and distance, and they give it to each other without complaint or feeling the need to "connect" as people typically do. There is a certain mute agreement they seem to have, and that is enough. Unlike many others, he holds no judgement over her in regards to her gender or appearance. Instead, he forms his opinions based solely on her skills, which he admires for their sly artistry and beauty. However, he is very much aware that her skills are not honed by true battle or war, which does cause him to regard her as lesser than himself. Her youth is not something she can control, but it does cause inexperience, which he recognises as causing potential problems. Overall, he sees her skill set as being unique and valuable, even if they are not wholly refined.

So long as she continues to hone her skills and work to make them more practical, Hiroyuki's opinion of her would not lower. However, in the event that her youth and inexperience should cause her to make poor decisions, he would not be very tolerant.

Kikuichi-san- With a level mind that is sharp as a blade, Kirihime is highly respected by Hiroyuki. Her martial prowess combined with cunning tactics on the battlefield impresses him, though he is keenly aware that the strategy she uses causes emotional strife. This makes him uneasy and disappointed from time to time, as he does not see the point in getting so upset over gender bias and social pressure. He sees her inflicting pain and stress upon herself in a rather paradoxical way, and cannot help but wonder as to why she bothers giving in to her clan's wishes when it causes so much distress. Despite all of this, he cannot help but give a nod of recognition toward how far she has come through the face of adversity. This tenacity, combined with skill and intelligence, causes Hiro to admire her and would regard her as a friend, if he knew what a friend should be.

Due to already regarding her so highly, there is not much room for his opinion of her to raise. However, should she ever overcome her obvious social pressure and gender conformity issues, he would regard her as much stronger and wiser. Should she fully cave in to this struggle, he would most certainly think of her as weak. There is also the issue of her anger- should she let it get the best of her, he would look down on her.

Yoshanai-san- There is a plethora of reasons as to why Hiroyuki does not like this man. His paranoid beliefs and mental instability make him and obvious wildcard in Kanegawa's hand, and Hiro wonders if he could actually be controlled, should his inner demons attempt to break free. Aside from this, clashing beliefs and modes of thinking causes altercations between the two. Kaze is one of the few things that stir strong emotion within Hiro, and it is not a pleasant one. He finds him to be honourless and honestly wonders how the man was able to be called samurai at all. If he had his way, Kaze would never have been accepted into the guard. There are too many unpredictable factors involved for him to be reliable and trustworthy.

There is nothing Kaze could do that would heighten Hiro's opinion of him, aside from a miraculous change of heart and personality. Should Kaze do anything to cause doubt regarding his capabilities as a samurai, his sanity or morality, Hiroyuki would gladly end his employment, one way or another.

...Wow, that got long- sorry!

Finally home and sober at the same time, I'll crank something out by tomorrow

*thinks about it. Well! Despite this new insight into Kiyomizu's opinion of Yurie, he's still probably the person she likes best out of the samurai.

I'm just sort of waiting to see what I should do with Makoto~

I will get a post up at some point this evening. (Sorry for the double post.)

Hmmm... Yurie's in the indoor training area next to the outdoors area, no one else really there, but I'll write a post when I can think of some inspiration.
