"Close enough to be withing their destroyer fleet." he said leaning back and lifting his mug and taking a long sip. Even now he wasn't feeling his best. "The contact called again, tonight at our hotel we have a date. Hes a valuable contact to have, you'll need those." he sighed "Though I don't need to tell you about business and pleasure."

He looked at her raising an eyebrow "Relationship breed mixed loyalties, unless kept on a business level. Choose others wisely."

"Tonight?" Cynthia didn't bother to hide her disappointment. She wanted to get a chance to explore the island before having to bother with this underground fellow. "I suppose at least we get it out of the way." The more she thought about it the more she realized that at least then they'd get to enjoy the rest of the holiday without interruptions.

Cynthia waited to ask Josh more questions as her plate of food was brought to the table and upon smelling the bounty she realized she had worked up a appetite. She ate at a steady pace, enjoying her food though she didn't talk unto the edge was off her hunger. "I suspect that tonight is going to be interesting? You did mention he wasn't exactly a good man even if he was a good contact."

"Hes a criminal." he said flatly. "But he knows things..." he sighed "Not the crusading for freedom and honor most picture. You've seen the state we're in... he need all the friends we can get and.." he sighed. "Not talking work at this hour. We go have a couple of drinks, he'll be angling for information, then we go upstairs."

He shook his head. "Playing nice is sometimes part of the job. Then at least we'll be able to enjoy our vacation."

It seemed Josh wasn't looking forward to this evening at all. It made Cynthia feel a bit better about her own feelings. Though perhaps it was time to get on a new topic.

"So why don't you tell me about our friends on the carrier. My navel knowledge is pretty limited." She grinned before taking another bite of food. At least this wasn't directly related to work, and she was honestly curious. While admitting ignorance wasn't exactly something to be proud of, Cynthia felt relaxed telling Josh when she didn't know something. It was odd, it was less like a pupil-mentor relationship, which by all accounts it should have been. Maybe it was because despite the fact that she had a lot to learn still Josh was treating her simply as his partner.

He took another sip and sighed. "Well.. They're a relatively green crew out here doing a little training." He said "If I haven't missed my guess we'll be standing in for a damaged cruiser as they fall into formation with us, fold it for an hour then break off." he said taking back the binoculars and raising them to look at the fleet.

"Not usually and aircraft carrier's job and downright dangerous at the best of times. Usually she'd send some of her frigates or destroyers to escort but I guess someone gave them a challenge."

He couldn't hide his grin, the wicked, pleased with himself, and trying to pretend he didn't know who grin.

"Hows the food?"

The rest of the day was leisurely. As Josh had promised the did get a chance to get a closer look at the carrier. It was very interesting and educational, but that seemed to be all the education. Cynthia kept wondering what else Josh might be up to, but if he had, she didn't notice. It made her wonder if he had been much more subtle. There was the chance that he honestly wasn't up to anything, but Cynthia had been enjoying the games as much as the relaxation.

Maybe she needed to make up her own games?

As the cruise ship called into port Cynthia was already packed and enjoying the view from the ship one last time. "And now we get to see the place you picked on the island." As well as drinks with Josh's contact. She realized she was a little nervous about that. "Is there anything I really need to know before we meet your.... friend?"

Josh had his suitcase in on hand and her hand in his other, even now he was maintaining cover. "Just that hes not nearly as big a deal as he thinks he is, he is a bog deal but he treats himself like the man behind the government which is far, far, from the truth." he nodded to Omar and began walking down the ramp towards a like of taxis waiting for passengers. "I got as a spot on the beach about a mile from here, its not a long ride but we'll be able to talk a little in the car."

It was clear from his tone he didn't think they could at the dock. But once inside the cab he breathed a sigh. "Well thats part one done.. think we'll find enough to do to fill up the 15 days we'll be here?"

Settled into her seat and trying not to be concerned with the breakneck driving their cabbie was performing Cynthia looked over at Josh. "I'm not too worried. Even if the island doesn't have much to offer in its normal tourist function for us." After all Cynthia enjoyed the cruise much more because of Josh's company.

"By the way I got a call this morning," she smirked slightly. "I think you has the right idea, keeping your phone off. Once tonight's over maybe you should go back to that." The neccessity of checking his phone because of his contact she understood, but they were on vacation and she was determined to make sure Josh relaxed. Including playing phone messenger when Daddy called.

He pulled out his phone and handed it to her. "You hold onto it then, seeing I obviously can't trust myself to relax." he winked at her. "From now on until we're back home where is no Agent Martini.. the man you're in the back seat of a bad with is just that. A man, with nothing better to do with his time than made up games and..." he yawned. ".. hell I need to sleep better tonight or I'm going to be no fun tomorrow."

So there it was, one of the cats out of the bag, he hadn't slept well. Surprising for a man who had put bullets in people and slept well a job well done.. well not quite he wasn't a machine. But this vacation was the worst for sleep in a long time.

Cynthia took the phone and put it in her purse with a grin. Josh might have been having a hard time to relax, but at least he was trying. "Going to have to give yourself a bedtime," she teased him. As they turned off a main road Cynthia noticed that the trees seemed well care for. Where ever they were headed the owners must have insisted on a certain level of class and luxury.

While she was aware their job was not like the movies, there was a need to be able to move around in high society without looking out of place. Cynthia wondered if all of that influenced Josh's choices for the trip. She concluded it was likely a conscious influence on his part. He was typically very aware of motives, including his own she thought. It was that rigger he was so use to that she was trying to break him of right now. What he was teaching her would keep her alive, it was only fair she taught him a few tricks on living.

Then the cab turned the bend and Cynthia got her first site of the buildings. "Nice."

"Very.. never been here before but always wanted to. Ok fine I've been tot he bar but that was a long time ago. He looked at the buildings. "And its been rebuilt since then. It was far more rustic back then. And tomorrow morning you're going to tell me who owns it."

Game one, on.

"Before that though we have enough time to settle into out suite and do something before tonight. We'd also better eat before we he meet with him." He was being task oriented again, something he hardly ever wasn't. "Theres a pool, horses, the beach, jet skis.. and the surprise..."

"Been rebuilt? And what sort of damage did you do to it?" Cynthia would give him the pass on not truly being here before if the job that brought him here was messy and of a short duration. It would be like a flight layover. Can you really say you were in Colorado if you'd never left the Denver airport? Cynthia didn't think so.

Cynthia grinned. The challenge was given and she was expected to accomplish it. Truth was she would have been disappointed if he hadn't come up with something soon. Cynthia was also interested in the surprise that Josh had hinted at before. Good surprises were the only type of surprises she wanted on this trip.

"It wasn't me, honest. It was the Russians i was here on damage control. Walk up behind their agent in the bar, drop a couple of code words I wasn't meant to know under the cover of casual conversation, say what country I'm from and the leave. That in the spy world means 'we're watching'. I wasn't going to interfere but its sometimes good to remind other agencies they're not the only ones playing the game. Three hours later.. we'll you'll probably see pictures of the rubble in the lobby."

The cab stopped and he got out paying the cabbie and taking his bag from the boot and checked his watch, it was about one in the afternoon. "You have... 21 hours to find out who owns this place.. without leaving my side to snoop around."

Cynthia pulled out her phone and checked the time on the display then nodded to Josh. 21 hours, no extra sneaking around, it wasn't impossible but it was going to be tricky. She liked it. "Should hope I get to keep you around."

Taking her own luggage she walked inside the main building with Josh. As they reached the front desk she noticed some large black and white photos. The history of the resort. Just as her partner predicted there were photos. She did wander away from his side, but this wasn't snooping, this was touristy curiosity while he checked them in. There was a difference, subtitle, but it was there. Besides she wasn't even five feet away and only if she was lucky would the information fall into her lap.

She did now have a date for the "fire" that took out the bar, giving her a better idea about how long Josh had been on this island.

"Its not there." he said accepting the keys and instructions on how to get to the room knowing full well she was looking at the fire and not the owner but pretending like she was anyway. Then he jingled the keys and and offered her his arm. "Shall we go up? I promise you the decor in this place should be less repetitive than on the ship, though remember you never know whats going to be in the quiz." he grinned and stepped towards the elevator that would take the to their floor and pressed the button.

He heaved a sigh as he waited for their floor to come up and rocked on his heels like an excited child. He was happy despite everything, and would most likely take a nap after lunch and before they did whatever they decided to to this afternoon.

Cynthia only snickered as she took his arm as he led her away from the photos and to the elevator. As they headed up she noticed Josh's good mood had returned in full force. She was glad even a bad night sleep wasn't keeping him down for long. There was the hope that whatever Josh's surprise was he planned on not holding hostage too long, though she was sure that she was going to be able to enjoy herself just fine until it manifested.

As the elevator dinged their floor and the doors opened Cynthia saw that Josh was not joking about the decor. While the lobby had a very distinct Caribbean style, up here things were a more clean and simple style, though still with that tropics flare and by no means cheap in design. "What did you want to do first once we unpack?"

He looked at her. "Probably eat, then sleep for an hour it thats ok with you, I'll need it if we're meeting for drinks later. And it gives you an hour to find something to do and snoop around without be stopping you." he said as he let go of her arm and pushed the key into the lock and pushed the door inwards.

The room was very much like the corridor, white, clean, but by no meant minimalistic or clinical. A large painting covered one of the walls of a jungle scene and a tv rested against the opposite wall. "Before I sleep though I should show you what I got you..." he turned to her putting his bag down and grinning. "One guess."

One hour alone was likely going to be enough time to find out what she needed to know, but knowing Josh there would be an extra layer so she had to be mindful of that. It was also time to hit the gift shops to look at tacky souvenirs. Not that she had anyone to get anything for. No, she amended that, there was someone and she thought that the eccentric Doctor would like to be thought of. Daddy wasn't allowing herself to be remembered by calling so Cynthia would only get her some chocolate or something from the airport.

"Is it a pony? I always wanted one of those," Cynthia was giving Josh a truly vapid look, like if she were a trophy wife for a business mogul. She didn't over exaggerate it, but that was because she thought it was more humorist if it was more believable then not. Well believable to someone other then Josh that was.

He grinned at her, "Sorry to disappoint you darling but its not a pony. It would be hard to find a place to keep one back home." he was playing along with her tease "Though I'll remember that even you were a little girl once."

He walked over to the balcony and slid open the sliding door and stepping outside to greet the sea breeze. "Here.." he held out his hand for hers, then guided her out onto the balcony with him and turning her so that her back was against him closed an arm around her. "We're being watched." he whispered into her ear. "Do not let them know you know but tell me where from.. without using your new present."

He gave her a peck on the cheek, all part of the show and pointed at a small telescope sitting on the other side of the balcony. "A reminder it won't all be barracks rooms and missions."

Cynthia smiled in delight, and it wasn't an act. The sentaminate was touching, but even while she was feeling very happy at the moment she was being aware of her surroundings. She knew it wouldn't always be fun and games, but for now she was able to be herself, both the person with feelings and emotions, and the intellectual creature that was being honed.

She turned and put both her arms around Josh's neck. "She could have been less noticed in that tree if she chose a difference branch and her partner wasn't down at the base. They must be very disappointed paparazzi," she told him in a whisper. She knew without the man down there trying to hard to look like he was being casual she wouldn't have been able to easily spot the other. "And thank you. It, well, it was very thoughtful of you."
