To be fair, Cole grew up on one of the islands, which isn't that big a deal for the Technomatics. As far as he's concerned, nothing's happened for a century so he thinks the academy is just getting funding and students by exploiting an old fear. He's only here because of the stigma around people who don't become hunters.
