HEY FUCKERS, I HEAR THERE'S AN ELECTION HAPPENING SOON.

So lemme get out ahead of this, before General Chat turns into Iwaku's own version of The Purge.

Y'know, more than it fucking is already.

Politics threads tend to go to hell in a hand-basket faster than you can scream "HITLER WAS RIGHT", and with this current election cycle that's never been more true. At the end of the day, we're a roleplaying forum and we really don't need politics coming into spoil everyone's nice time: this is a place folks come to for escapism, after all, so having the election cycle chase them here is less than ideal.

BUT WAIT, I'M NOT FINISHED.

At the same time, we also don't want to go laying down blanket statements about what you can and can't say on Iwaku. Goes against that whole "flexibility of speech" thing we have written down somewhere that @Jorick and @Astaroth keep yelling at me about whenever I suggest we just ban all of you and have done with it. With that in mind, we're gonna try and find ourselves a middle ground solution that allows folks to have their say without the entire forum descending into a clusterfuck of angry, bipartisan bullshit.

Again, more than it already is.

SO HEY, YOU GOBSHITES WANNA TALK ELECTION 2K16?

YOU DO IT IN THIS THREAD AND THIS THREAD ALONE.

To prevent me from rambling, lemme bullet-point how this is gonna work:
  • WE'RE KEEPING THINGS LIGHT. NO BIG RANTS ABOUT HOW HILLARY'S A FUCKING LIZARDWOMAN AND/OR HOW TRUMP IS HITLER 2.0.
  • We're keeping shit civil, too. Discussions are cool, but if you start slinging insults about (or, given how you fuckers tend to work, passive-aggressive sniping) you will get spanked.
  • Any overtly rant-like/insulting/snipey posts will get edited by our lovely security team to be more user-friendly. We will insert butterflies, rainbows and other nice suggestions so you all maybe calm the fuck down or something. You'll know they've edited a post cos it'll be all red. Like the blood of our enemies.
  • Gary Johnson is my husbando. You can't have him. He's mine.
  • Seriously. Mine.

Hopefully that clears everything up about the purpose of this thread. Now go fucking kill each other.

Or don't, actually. I think that's why I got asked to write this.

I am worried for the world. Americas actions are the counterweight to Russia, who one baltic away from me.

I think we're going to want to open up a separate political subforum to contain the outrage that's going to be coming. ._. 'Cause now Japanese internment camps are being talked about with respect to the proposed Muslim Registry.

Also this video is just perfect:
I don't mean to cause outrage. Just a caution on the last time we decided to nationally register a group of people. I'm not saying it's going to happen that way. Trump's been pretty avid that it's criminal deportations instead of willy-nilly containment which already makes it a different situation.

However, I am realistically worried about the inflammation of racism, the incarceration he talks about(we are already overcrowded, thanks), and the fates of the people who have already been waiting years for their paperwork to go through. We'll see what happens when he gets sworn in. He did not get majority vote, but a lot of people still voted for him, so he must be worth at least one shot in the Oval Office. And if not - well, we are all in agreement that this election was dumb, no one actually liked the big party candidates, and that we won't let it happen again.

The fact that these idiots are using Twitter for any type of discussion at all should disqualify them for every job other than working the drive thru at McDonalds (I'm not using that as an insult, I'm just saying they shouldn't be allowed to move from that position, like ever....)

The more I hear and read, the more it becomes apparent that the U.S is beyond screwed.

The only thing I'm worried about is how much the changes in border control will cost.
Everything else seems to be lining up quite nicely.

I don't recall internment camps being a feature of Trump's campaign.
Let's not worsen leftist fearmongering.

They literally talk about registring muslims. Thatss how it sterted in germany. Talk to any of the survivors. Hell, look up all the interviews with desendencts of said surviors. This is all to familiar. Trump surrugates cited the japanese internment camps as precidence. Sorry man but it isn't fearmongering. To dismiss the actions, words and criticism of media and oppossition does not exactly bode well for the future of a democracy. Hold your damn choice of president responsible for his goddamn actions. THAT IS THE FOUNDATION OF DEMOCRACY. YOUR LEADERS ANSWER TO YOU, THE PEOPLE WHO CHOSE HIM. TO NOT HOLD HIM RESPONSIBLE IS TO CONDONE HIS POLICIES.

They don't get to go "GIve him a chance".You don't get to call criticism for fearmongering. We are the one with the evidence. With the facts. With damn recordings of the men about to be in power, saying awful shit. People tried to give him a shot, but he has not drained the swamp. He filled the swamp up ever then before. He appointed a known anti-semitic white nationionalist. One of his possible candidates for supreme court thought gay sex should be ILLEGAL. YOu tell me how this is fearmongering. You tell me how I am wrong. Becouse if you cannot find anythign else then "Media is bad" (which is the basis of all fascist agendas ever) or "ITs fearmongering from the left" (To which I and others have direct evidence to the truth of our statements,), Then you don't have anything and you need to own up to what Trump really represent.

Trump's Transition Team Reportedly Mulls 'Muslim Registry'

Donald Trump's proposed "Muslim registry," explained

Renewed Support For Muslim Registry Called 'Abhorrent'

Why Citing the Japanese Internment as a 'Precedent' for a Muslim Registry Is So Alarming

This All Seems Very Familiar, Say Philly Holocaust Survivors

Sakheim immigrated to the U.S. in 1938, served in the 104th Infantry Division during World War II, and later worked as a translator at the Nuremberg trials. He didn't hesitate to offer his opinion. "People aren't going to want to hear it, but as [Trump] talked more and more, he sounded more and more like Hitler," he said. "There's that grandiosity, that self-importance, that feeling that he knows everything, that he knows more than the generals."

T
his is from a survivor. From a man who suffered under the nazis. From someone who worked at the Nuremberg trials (Where they actually mad nazis pay for their crimes). Someone who know first hand. Who is telling you Trump sounded a lot like Hitler in his last speeches. You cannot hide your head in the sand over this one man. You cannot ignore history

Trump has to scrape the literal bottom of the barrel. A number of people have flat out turned him down when offered positions, and the only ones who are stepping up are the scum of the U.S. The few who have accepted have controversies to their names that would disqualify them for any normal President.

His pick for SCOTUS is a nightmare for the LGBT community, which I think we all knew was going to be.

The funny thing is, there is a history of the man posing nude on a gay porn site back in the 90's.

What is the most annoying about Trump and most of his forming cabinet is that they are the very epitome of what Hillary has been accused of. Giuliani was paid to give speeches to an Iranian terrorist group and has taken money from Qatar. I won't even begin to get into the list of countries that Trump has business dealings/owes debt to, and his refusal to put his company into a blind trust should have everyone with a working brain questioning his motives, and that's not mentioning the fact that he wants to bring his children into his transition team. If Hillary had done that, everyone would have been jumping in her shit over political dynasties.

And now he's going on a 'Victory tour'. Why? For one thing, he has a court date in 10 days, and if I'm not mistaken, he's supposed to be learning how to run the freaking country! But yeah.....priorities.

Truthfully though, I'm sticking with my original opinion about this election. The GOP does not want Trump. They're staying silent now, but I'm almost positive that behind his back Ryan and all the others are just waiting to hit Trump with an impeachment hearing. I think they're letting the Dems do all the work investigating his ties to Russia and all the other issues that have popped up. They're biting their tongues about Bannon and the internment camps, just giving Trump just enough rope to hang himself with. Their silence is emboldening him, and the more they hang back, the more ammunition Trump is giving them. They want Pence, but Pence wouldn't have stood a chance on his own. The guy's as charismatic as a rattle snake about to bite, and his supposed 'Catholic' beliefs weren't quite on the same level to what Trump's base is looking for. As the second in command he's fine for them, but I know most of the people who voted for Trump wouldn't have voted for Pence. So right now everyone's letting Trump do his thing and fuck up as much as he wants. Come January 21st, everything he's done and said will be used against him.

Holy shit! That's not just Anti-LGBT, that's pretty much Anti-whoever.

Any hospital may refuse to provide contraception, reproductive health care (including consultations of any kind), or health care of any kind to unmarried people or gay people, and not lose accreditation.
And yes, however unlikely, your boss could fire you for having (straight) premarital sex, and no federal agency could come after you.
I mean......wtf! That means anyone who is sexually active, could be discriminated against. Why is the GOP so freaking concerned with what goes on in people's bedrooms? Kind of explains why there's an alleged sexual predator now as our......I can't even force myself to type out the words.

So when exactly are we going to hear any news that's actually going to make this country great? So far all I've heard is a bunch of crap that's going to make set this country back to the beginning of the 1900's.

This is unbelievably paranoid. The constitution exists for a reason. Congress/The Supreme Court will undoubtedly stop the president from making any attempt at registering Muslims or building internment camps. This isn't 1930's Germany.
I'm quite tolerant of allowing businesses to discriminate. Free market principles and whatnot.

You are saying. You are tolerant of intolerance...

Oh. And you mean the spineless GOP who allowed a faschist spouting Populist to hijack their party to begin with.

Yes. Business owners should decide who they hire and who they cater to. That's not a question for government to answer.
As for your quarrel with the GOP...

1. Nominating Trump was not something that we desired. Yet unlike the Democratic Party, we don't rig our elections with Super-PACs or actively conspire against candidates. The voters of our party got what they wanted.

2. It takes a lot more than what Trump has said/done to be a fascist. A fascist would abolish capitalism, ban all opposing political parties, create a secret police, and numerous other things that disqualify the Donald from being the next Il Duce.

A fascist would abolish capitalism,

Let me stop you here. A Faschists does not need to have a problem with capitalism in general. They are not Communists by nature. Some start out as communist. Second: What has donald run his entire campaign on:

Hatred for people different then him. Calling for walls and for expulsion of people. Us Vs Them. Fear and Anxiety. False populism promises about jobs that won't come back. (Becouse robots are making people obsolete.) Calling for Registration of a whole minority. Putting incredibly racist people as in power. Associating openly with Anti-Semitic White Nationalists. Undermining peoples belief in politicians and media (Which, I stress. Is exactly what Hitler did. See: Actual ww2 survivors.)

These are hallmarks of Nationalism and Fascism.

You can try and deflect all you want on the Democrats. But That is what YOUR candidate stands for. Hatred. Discrimination. Sexism. Racism. Misogyny. Corporatism. Cronyism. Money over Environment. Climate denial. Making fun of the disabled. Attacking Veterans over their religion. Calling veterans with PTSD for weaklings. Making fun of PoWs. Calling for people to vote twice (Voting fraud). Calling for people to patrol Polling Stations (Voter Intimidation). Anti-Intellectualism. Tax Evasion. Bragging about forcing himself on people.

That is your candidate. That is what you condone. That is what your vote represent.

"If we are socialists, then we must definitely be anti-semites – and the opposite, in that case, is Materialism and Mammonism, which we seek to oppose." "How, as a socialist, can you not be an anti-semite?"

"We are socialists, we are enemies of today's capitalistic economic system for the exploitation of the economically weak, with its unfair salaries, with its unseemly evaluation of a human being according to wealth and property instead of responsibility and performance, and we are all determined to destroy this system under all conditions." -Adolf Hitler

I will not take into account any interpretation of fascism that reaches beyond how Mussolini, its founder, designed it to be throughout his life (although Hitler and Mussolini collaborated on expanding the idea). I will not deny that Trump is a terrible human being. I hardly condone his actions. I am merely trying to find a silver lining in this mess, because I threw my support behind Gary Johnson until the very end.

Also, Hillary Clinton has stood behind corporatism for decades. She's a puppet of Wall Street and little more.

I'm quite tolerant of allowing businesses to discriminate. Free market principles and whatnot.
In theory, I agree with you. Businesses should be allowed to discriminate. However, the problem arises when every business is discriminatory. This leaves people who are discriminated against with nowhere to go.

If I'm a gay couple wanting a wedding cake, and go to Jo's Cake Shop, who decides he hates gays, then thankfully there's Anna's Cake Shop across the street who doesn't care. That's how it should work.

But, unfortunately, it doesn't usually work like that. Instead you will get a national chain (say, McDonalds) who won't serve gays, and now gays have a much harder time finding food. Because it's never just one company. It's always multiple companies. Sure there may be a brand or two (Target, probably) who will serve anybody, but what if there is no Target where you live? What if you can't afford Target?

And this is just regular shopping. The proposed bill covers everything, including hospitals and state government. Why should somebody's life depend on what someone else thinks of them? Hell, what if I'm not gay, but whoever is serving me thinks I am? Guess I'm just shit out of luck, right?

The act could have merit if it had limits. Like, maybe only mom and pop (small business) are allowed to discriminate so harshly. Or maybe anyone can discriminate excluding certain fields (like healthcare) where if it's non-emergent, you're allowed to refuse but you must provide a referral to someone who will do it.

To put out a blanket "You can do whatever you want" bill like this, that applies to everyone, that doesn't even require you to be religious, that gives the discriminated absolutely no recourse, is wrong and frankly staggering that someone would even draft something like this.

This is setting aside the fact that these blanket policies foster hate toward often discriminated groups. When you have someone (or a company) openly saying "these people don't deserve our service" then this is telling the population that "these people aren't as good as you." We are already seeing how Trump's nomination has exacerbated this. It will only get worse if popular businesses openly discriminate as well. It won't be long before we have second-class citizens again.

In theory, I agree with you. Businesses should be allowed to discriminate. However, the problem arises when every business is discriminatory. This leaves people who are discriminated against with nowhere to go.
I don't see there being any major indication that a majority of businesses would pick up that practice.
Society is more tolerant than it's ever been before. Coupled with a profit incentive, and that progression continues.
