Luca was focused on very carefully getting a spoonful of his food to blow on, so as not to drop anything or accidentally knock it off the utensil, but when Garrett praised 'them' for their work he did smile a little. It was always reassuring, having someone tell him he'd done well. At least now when he heard 'good job' it wasn't because someone had made him hurt people.
"That's good," Evelyn said, glad that no one was being left unattended while Garrett was away and that Anthony was capable of not burning the office down. "It will be helpful for them to learn to cook at least a few things."
Luca's attention was immediately back when Garrett mentioned stargazing, and he looked between them both with slightly wide eyes before focusing on Evelyn, waiting for her answer. He still went and looked at them sometimes, from the window or from outside, and Evelyn would come and sit with him so he wouldn't be lonely, but it was different. That was normal now; having Garrett come with them felt special, especially after he'd spent a few days away doing work before.
She looked back at him for a moment, then just gave a soft, amused huff. "Of course we can. You don't have to ask for permission to go in the backyard. . . That would be nice, actually. It's supposed to be a clear night." She gave Garrett a knowing smile, looking at him sidelong. "We could even make hot chocolate."
It earned her a bigger smile from Luca at least, one that even showed a little hint of teeth when usually his expressions were always muted and close-mouthed. As tired as she was from not sleeping well the night before, she wouldn't mind staying up a little late if it meant getting to spend some time together, and seeing them both smile again. If it got too late, she wouldn't mind letting Garrett crash on her couch like 'old times'.
