RWBY: Dust to Dust

Timeline OOC Info To Join

  • Before you were born, Beacon Academy fell to the forces of darkness. Team RWBY and other heroes from Beacon worked with Haven to protect it from the same fate, and they won. Some time after that, they had you, and they brought you into a world at peace.

    That world would grow vibrant but chaotic. The citizens of Vale were determined to find a way forward - they made the city beautiful again, they brought the CCT back online, and they drove the Grimm out of the center of the city. Faunus grew even less accepted due to the actions of the White Fang. Technology advanced, and with that came new forms of dust, and materials and biotech based off of newly-discovered Grimm physiology. Beacon Academy was reopened by Glynda Goodwitch's sister Locasta. Your reasons for joining were your own, whether you saw it as taking up your parents' mantle, having adventures of your own, or just bringing light to the world.

    Advancement did not come without those who wished to tear it down. Charismatic leader Io Sugilite spoke against the use of aura, in favor of using biotechnology to augment humans and merge them with the Grimm living in outer Vale. Treating the Grimm like gods, her movement grew into a cult with members in all four kingdoms. This cult, the Yamiko Movement, developed a tense relationship with Remnant's combat schools.

    Then the unthinkable happened - dust started making people sick. Huntsmen and Huntresses developed terrible illnesses from using it. Grimm began to encroach upon humanity's footholds once again. As dust sales plummeted, the Yamiko Movement gained momentum, and Nature's Wrath became a much less viable combat aid. People had to use it in very limited quantities, or find technological replacements. The quest became to uncover the cause of this strange new disease, and procure the materials needed for a cure.

    You're attending Beacon in a world where dust, humanity's candle in the dark, is dangerous. Your world holds advancements and challenges your parents could never have foreseen. What future will you and your team carve out?

  • You play as a descendant of one of the show's heroes, attending Beacon Academy. There will be action and adventure, missions in a variety of settings, and the challenge of fighting dangerous enemies without Dust. Your characters will learn to work together, and if you're looking for it, perhaps romance will blossom as well. Your missions are handed down by scientists, who need Huntsmen and Huntresses to navigate perilous territory, fight Grimm, and clash with the Yamiko Movement in order to find a cure.

    The game will start before initiation, and jump to the second semester (which includes missions and a dance) after initiation ends.

    Have roleplay common sense - no godmodding, OP characters, etc. Your writing should be at least at the Intermediate level. Posting speed is 2-3 IC posts a week.

  • As for who your character's parent is, you can claim any character from RWBY, JN(P)R, or CFVY, plus Sun and Neptune, as long as they're not already claimed. You are also allowed to have two canon characters as your character's parents if you choose (for example, instead of Coco and an OC father, you could play the child of Coco and Fox, or someone Coco and Velvet adopted).     The root word of her given name "Hail", comes from the weather condition and her surname roughly translates to "Snow".

    "Fimbulvetr"
    Categorized as a "Dust-Powered Jousting Railgun" (DPJR), the Fimbulvetr resembles a lance used for jousts with a revolver-like chamber built into its vamplate much like the Myrtenaster. The top half of the lance's "blade" can collapse into the bottom half, making it easier to carry when not in battle, and can be shot back out to full length like a pile bunker to pierce through heavy defenses. This top half also acts as the "barrel" for the weapon's railgun form, splitting into quarters to clear the way for projectiles.
    SEMBLANCE:
    "Misty Glyphs"
    Inheriting the hereditary semblance of the Schnee family, Hailey's appear to act similarly to her mother's, although the glyphs themselves seem to be less solid, having a mist-like composition. Much like the glyphs, Hailey was once able to use the glyphs to summon, but her current condition has left her unable to draw up enough energy to do so.
    FIGHTING STYLE:
    Heavily reliant on her semblance for propulsion and her aura to strengthen her weakened body, Hailey's combat style focuses on quick stabs, aerial maneuvers, and punishing charges at high-speeds. She often finishes fights by pinning her foes and driving the pile bunker through them or transforming it to fire the railgun, although the latter method has rarely seen use since she grew ill.
    DUST USAGE:
    Having once heavily practiced utilizing Dust, Hailey was one of those unfortunate to contract the debilitating illness from its use. Despite her sickness draining her of her strength and energy, leaving her a shell of the fighter she once was, she powers through with her willpower, using Dust only when needed, but not bothering to limit the amount when used.

  • REASON FOR ENROLLMENT:
    Initially, it was to follow in her parents' footsteps, but this changed since she grew ill. No longer certain of her future, becoming a Huntress allows her to live a life away from those who would keep her locked away in hospitals.
    PERSONALITY:
    Confidence; the very first thing most notice about her is her confidence. Every move, every word, every action has a meaning and is done without hesitation or doubt. It is a confidence a child prodigy has in her skills and a lifetime being raised by those who praised her, yet it is without arrogance. Tempered by the lessons of her aunt and the experiences with those bearing bitter grudges, she instead strives to act as the better person and bring honor to her family. While this has and will most likely always be the case, contracting the ailments caused by dust brought and the stress of now having limits has driven her into an almost desperate state of pursuing her goals as if to keep herself from dwelling on her fragility.

  • PARENTAL HISTORY:
    When the dust settled and victory was ensured, Weiss turned her attention to another battle. Her time at Beacon had given her another perspective of how her father's actions as head of the Schnee Dust Company and the lives it affected. It was far from easy and almost made any battle she had beforehand seem like child's play, but in the end, she overcame the obstacles and took over her family's business. Life didn't get easier afterward, however, as the position began to consume a majority of her life, even to the point where she didn't notice her own pregnancy until she was well into it. Her relationship with Neptune had become strained, with only occasional bouts of passion whenever he could pry her away from work, yet despite her fears, he was thrilled to hear the news and while they may not have been married on paper, Hailey has never recalled a memory where they didn't act as loving husband and wife.
    PERSONAL HISTORY:
    To most, she included, Hailey's life was perfect. Brought into a wealthy family, she was raised by her loving father, her mother was rarely home during the day, but she made up for it by doubling the love she gave her whenever she returned home. Told the tales of her parents' struggles against the Grimm in times of sheltered peace left her idealistic but determined to take up after them and to make them proud, a task seemingly made easy due to being gifted. That might have been the case, had she not contracted the dust-related disease. Her parents grew from happy to concerned and stressed and she found herself looking forward to a life of uncertainty, confined to sterilized beds and medical equipment. Determined to make her own ending, she snuck out as her first act of rebellion, knowing her registration to Beacon was still active would grant her access to the school. Unbeknownst to her, Weiss had ultimately decided to let her go for now, realizing just how similar she had been at her age.

  • Name: Kara Scarlatina Vert

    Name relation to color: Might be because Kara means nut and nuts are usually a shade of brown. Another possibility would be that Kara is short for Karameru which is the japanese word for caramel, a shade of brown

    Age: 16

    Race: Faunus [Fox]

    Immediate family members: Velvet Scarlatina and Shida Vert

  • Aura color: Gray

    Height: 5"3

    Body type: Lithe and only slightly curvy

    Faunus trait: Fox ears. People often think she has a tail but upon closer inspection, you can see it's an extension of her belt.

  • Weapon:
    Mokusatsu.

    Mainly, it's a nagamaki which has extreme sharpness and durability. She can change it into a sniper rifle but she rarely does that. She can also change it into a staff which can shorten and extend. She can still shot with the staff without having to change the staff into a rifle. When idle, she carries Mokusatsu as a staff.

    Semblance:
    Two-faced.

    When she uses this, there are basically two of her. One, the fake which is the one that people sees and the second is the real her which people can't see. However, she can make her clone disappear and herself appear or vice versa but they won't switch places. When people see her semblance, they'd usually think it's some sort of transportation. Her clone is able to attack and won't disappear if it gets hit. She won't feel whatever the clone feels until the deed is done. The clone will do whatever she thinks it to. A medium amount of aura is needed. She can hold the clone for at most, a minute but she usually only uses this for thirty seconds. She can do this repeatedly but it is not recommended. There are also only two things that she needs to think about during the usage of her semblance. One, the movement of her clone and the other is her own movement to attack or do whatever in general. If she thinks about something else, the clone disappears.

    Fighting style: Her main style is like an assassin. Stealth and agility. She uses the element of surprise. Once she's out in the open, she starts fighting like a samurai. Precise and graceful. Her movements are often like dance moves. She uses the staff as if she's using a sword. Her fox traits also help in battle. It makes her more reflexive and alert.

    Dust Options: From the start, she rarely uses her sniper. It's only used when there's a big distance between her and her target. She uses normal bullets but if she uses dust, it's usually fire, wind or both. She has never used dust to improve her semblance or Mokusatsu so she has no clue what would happen if she did.

  • Why did you enroll at Beacon? She wanted to feel the same joy and passion she could see radiating from her mother when she talked about her days as a Huntress. Also because she wanted people to see that faunus' saves lives as well and that just because she's a faunus, doesn't make her all that different.

    Personality: Kara is a merry child. Always enthusiastic and joyful. In fact, in can be said she's a bit hyperactive and reckless. She's also friendly albeit slightly rude. She speaks with sarcasm and sometimes a bit of poison. She speaks what she wants and she's honest. However, she doesn't say or do things without thinking. She is kind and warm but she's not gentle. She is graceful even with all her recklessness. She is never seen angry or being serious. The most negative she is seen is being annoyed. One more thing is that she's a liar.
    She constantly lies through words and actions. She doesn't let anyone see how she truly feels. She is mature and calm. She thinks things through before saying or doing anything. She's stubborn and she refuses to let anyone see her in her lowest. In fact, she won't let anyone see her being anything but happy. She keeps things to herself and she's distrustful. She also never cries. Lie or not, she never cries. No one has ever seen through her act and no one has ever seen her real self. She plans on keeping it what way. The only time she lets her mask slip just a bit is when she's fighting with lives at stake. That's the only time.

    Romance:     Heterosexual

  • Parental history: Velvet remained a huntress but it was always hard because of the discrimination people still harbored. During one of her missions, she saved a fox faunus named Shida who later became her friend. Although Velvet was a Huntress, it always seemed like Shida was the one doing the protecting when it came to those two. He was stubborn and lively while she was timid and frugal. They were an odd couple that fitted each other well. After two years, they got married and Velvet found out she was pregnant a year after. She took a break from her job and gave birth to Kara. She went back to her job after resting for a few months. Whenever she was gone, Shida would look after Kara. It seemed like the gender roles were reversed. At the age of 28, Velvet retired and started becoming an actual housewife while Shida started working as a carpenter.

    Personal history: Financial wise, it was enough but social wise was a different story. It was hard growing up with the discrimination but it was fine as long as they have each other. Somewhere around the age of 8, Kara shown an interest in becoming a hunter from all the stories Velvet told her. Kara could see how happy her mother was whenever she talked about her days as a Huntress. When she told her parents of her desire, they were skeptical but supportive. They could see potential in her but with her being a faunus, they knew it wouldn't be easy. Kara reassured her parents it would be okay. Since the age of 10, she had been training with Velvet as much as she can. Her mother tried her best to educate the basic things she needed to know and her father taught her all she had to know about her fox side. She was grateful for their help and she promise them she'd make them proud.

@Queen of Null faunus canonically only have one faunus trait... that said, because I don't want you to have to search for a new pic, and this is the future and we can justify it, maybe we can say their genetics had some mutations and changes to the usual "rules"?

There's also a whole paragraph in your Personal section that's in a different font. Did you mean to do that?

Also, I'm assuming she uses dust instead of DRT?

Finally, I find five minutes for a clone a bit excessive - most battles in RWBY canon don't last that long. Maybe bring it to one?

Everything else looks good! :) After these things are addressed, I will put a link to Kara in the first post.

Oh, that's a mistake. I mean, yea, that's the darker side of her personality but I didn't mean to do it in a different font. But, it kinda fits. I don't mind changing it or is it fine if I leave it like that?

Hmm... it does kinda fit. It's such a minor detail that it's not gonna make me reject Kara, so just do what you feel looks best; I just wanted to let you know in case you didn't intend for it.

I'm interested in joining if there are any spots left. My character would most likely be a child of Jaune and Ruby if there is still a spot available.

I was planning on making a female character but upon realizing that practically every character here is female, except for Hans, I can't decide whether or not I'll still make a female character or a male one. >_<

If it helps your decision any, I would enjoy some gender balance here since most of the RWBY RPs I've played have been been mostly filled with female characters. However, if you really don't want to make a male character, I'm not gonna ask that you do.
