Have you ever had a movie that you were so hyped up about that you were convinced that when you saw it, it would be everything that you thought it would be, only to have your hopes crushed like a diamond under a hydraulic press? Well, recently I've run into a few of them.
Stephen King's Cell- I was so pumped about this movie. I absolutely loved the book, and I was absolutely head over heels for the characters in the book. I cried when one of the main characters was killed, and I cheered on the others as they continued on their journey. (No spoilers, but I'm sure anyone who's read it knows what I'm talking about.) The movie, while not quite as awesome as the book, was going to be great, and I would love it almost as much as I did the novel. Damn if I'm not a naive someone....
I could not for the life of me get attached to the characters in the movie, at all. The plot was butchered and shoved down your throat to the point where you just didn't even care what happened as long as it was over. The only thing the movie had going for it was that there was some decent action. But the ending.....fuck if they don't stop butchering up the endings! I fucking hated it!
The Boy- My youngest daughter and I have a love for all things horror, and being the rather laid-back mom that I am I thought I'd let her watch it with me. I probably shouldn't have worried about her being scared, because there wasn't anything scary about it other than how predictable it was. I was extremely disappointed by the whole thing, and instantly regretted the two hours I wasted watching it.
X-Men Apocalypse- (No spoilers) I can't explain exactly why I was disappointed with the movie as a whole, but it just wasn't what I thought it was going to be. I expected something.....I don't know, more? A little more backstory, maybe. A little more delving into the characters, perhaps. I don't know, I just wanted something more.
Terminator: Genisys- I loved Terminator. Terminator 2 was the first movie and only movie I ever pulled the 'switched' theater' stunt. Bought tickets to go see some cheesy kids movie, and my friends and I sat through the entire showing of Terminator 2 without anyone knowing. I loved the premise of the movie before I saw it, but when I did see it I just felt completely empty inside. I hated what they did to John. I think that was my biggest beef with it. Throughout the entire series, John was meant to be the savior, and yet they turned him into the villain. It just fucked me up in all the wrong ways, and to this day I despise what was done. Yes, I know it's stupid to hate a movie for going outside the box, but seriously? Why?!?!
There are more, and I'm almost positive there is going to be a ton of others that disappoint me in the near future. (I swear to fucking God, if The Dark Tower is one of them I will riot!)
But what about you all? Is there any movie that you've been excited about only to be let down once you watched it?
