Akio heard the whistle of the wakizashi and moved to the side. It missed by barely a centimetre. He couldn't do anything about the dragons, however. His sword hit Dragon's, and he didn't stop at that. He thrust forward, catching the edge of her triangular guard. With a twirl, he knocked it out of her hand.

Sword gone? That's fine. Her tail wasn't as tough as her Land Dragon brother and not as light as her Sky Dragon brother, but it was flexible and strong in it's own way. Twisting around, she wrapped her long tail around his sword arm, pulling down with force.

Tiger realised he wasn't being focused, but there was nothing he could do. Running around, he weaved in and out of stray dragon apparitions, reaching for the fallen 'Mother Pearl'.

Slightly taken off by surprise, Akio was pulled forward. He kicked out, and at the same time still managed to try and cut her tail at the base. Not able to do that, he tossed his sword to his left hand and slashed at her.

Seeing a sword sticking out of the moving mass and swinging down, Dragon let go of his arm and stepped back. Tiger tossed her her sword back, which she grabbed. Holding her sword with one hand, she runs around Akio in circles, lowering her sword to the ground to create marks. Using her sword as if it were a brush, she started drawing a rune circle around him.

Akio closed his eyes, running his hand down the length of his katana. It glowed, and then he drew a line through the runes.

Dragon's eyes widened. That was meant to seal up the dragons, if he broke it...that's creating a whole new rune circle entirely! That means it'll be another eff-

WHOOOOM!

The circle Akio was standing in exploded, knocking Dragon back. A cylinder of flames shot up, flickering uncontrollably. The rune circle was destroyed and the dragons fled, leaving the arena and disappearing into thin air.

As soon as the circle exploded, Akio dashed out. He lunged for her, goin to slam the hilt onto her head.

Tiger watched in horror as the defenceless Dragon, exhausted over the overuse of magic and broken rune circles slams against the wall. He knew she was intending to morph all the dragons together and trap Akio, but since Akio disrupted and changed the formula, a new reaction began - with the same force that was going to be used to combine the dragons. Tiger saw nothing but red. His heart burned like fire, and his blood boiled. Roaring, he leaps at Akio, headbutting him away from Dragon. There was a time where he could unlock all of his Deva potential, back where he was sitting on the clouds, or walking through the magical forests of his motherland. But in this world, that lock could never be opened. Sure, the lock had cracks on it caused by the tiger clawing inside him, but break free? No.

His normally hidden ears were now visible, and his canines grew. His hands were surrounded by a bluish-white glow, and looked like the shadow of a demon's claws, with claws thirty centimetres long, he clawed ferociously at Akio.

Akio kept calm, swiftly blocking his strikes. Knowing there was no other way, Akio went in. He rarely went on the offensive, like Dragon, but he knew that if this was to end then he had to. Even though he liked being defensive, strangely enough offensive was his best. Sword still in his left hand, he slashed at Tiger's chest.

Tiger was too slow to react. Blood spurted out of his chest, and he roared in agony. He'd never lost before, especially when he was paired up with Dragon. In a last ditch attempt to win, he twisted around and clamped his mouth - sharp teeth and all - over Akio's arm.

Akio cried out in pain. He threw his sword to the other hand and slammed the hilt down on Tiger's head. It was going to hurt, but Akio knew that after the battle was over it would heal.

Howling in pain, he twisted around and swiped at his face. Normally he wouldn't fight at such close quarters, but all he wanted to do right now was to kill him.

Akio bent back, in a very matrix like move. He got the edge of the sword into Tigers mouth and tried to get him off his arm.

Whimpering at the pain of the blade, Tiger pulls back and licks the blood off his lips. Looking at Akio hungrily, waiting for his next move.

Akio glanced to the bite mark on his arm and grimaced. With no warning, he lunged. The hilt of his sword came down hard and fast onto Tiger's head, a sure knockout blow.

Tiger collapsed onto the floor, exhausted and wasted. As he did so, he was surrounded by a soft blue light. Dragon, who had managed to get up, although still tired from her fight but almost healed pushed past Akio and grabbed the shrinking, shining ball of light and bolted out of the room, leaving their weapons behind in her haste.

The teacher stared after them. "Well, our star students seem to have their throne taken. Full marks, Akio! Now, would you mind taken this staff and these pistols back to their owners? Wherever they are," said the teacher, beaming at him.

Akio's eyes widened in shock, and he ran a hand through his hair with a sigh. God, he should've just let them beat him. "Yes, sir," Akio said as he took the weapons and went after Dragon.

Dragon dashed right past Akio, near the entrance to the arena. She had just left the kitchen, still hiding the ball of light under her robes, she ran down the hallway and made a sharp turn, heading towards the gardens.

Akio followed after her. Did something happen to Tiger? Shit, he thought to himself. This is all my fault. I shouldn't have done it. Wondering where she was headed, Akio made sure not to lose sight of her.

Looking behind her to make sure no one was following, she ducked into a cluster of trees. She knew the gardens well, she often came here with Tiger so they could have some peace and talk about their personal problems, she knew this place was not easily found. From her long sleeves she pulled out a bottle of milk and a bowl that she stole from the kitchens. Well, not stolen. Borrowed. And from under her robe, she pulled out a squirming, red-faced white tiger cub.

"Oh, Tiger." She said, softly stroking the top of his head. "You really shouldn't go berserk if you know you end up like this at the end." Pouring some milk into the bowl, she watched as he lapped up the milk like a newborn kitten.
