Name: Rin Kanou
Age: 17
Super High School: (Mad) Scientist
Backstory:
For the most part, Rin had a pretty boring life in a happy family, with really nothing interesting going on. As such, let's just skip past that until something interesting
does happen, shall we?
Rin's father was a scientist himself too, focusing on the field of chemisty. Although for the most part he was a very careful man, he was still only human, and one day he made a grave error; he took his son along to work. Why is this an error, you say? At that point in his life, Rin had no interest in science yet and spended most of the day being bored as all hell. Well, until all hell broke loose, that is. As it turns out, flashing lights and blaring sirens are pretty interesting to a kid, which is why Rin went deeper down into the laboratory instead of getting AWOL like a sane person. This in turn lead to his father also having to go down after him, and neither of them being out of the way when a failsaife failed, leating to a catastrophic and sudden release of energy (AKA: an explosion) happened.
The explosion crippled Rin's father and injured Rin himself. Most of the injuries were pretty minor, but his left hand couldn't be saved. Luckily, modern technology seems to know no limits, and Rin ended up with a primite cybernetic hand. Sure, it was very clunky, especially compared with a real hand, but at least it was better than a piece of plastic. Of course, one can imagine the shock when one wakes up with a hunk of metal for a left hand. ...Actually, one probably cannot. It's pretty unimaginable, one can imagine.
Fair or not, Rin blamed himself for this incident, feeling that if only he had known more about science, he might have been able to save everyone. And so started Rin's obsession with science in general and robotics and cybernetics in particular -- he figured that maybe he was unable to save his father, but at least he would be able to fix some of the results.
The only problem was, those injuries mentioned before? Those also included some damage to Rin's prefrontal cortex. As a result, he has far less control over his impulses, and tends to do whatever he deems interesting. This, coupled with his reawakened obsession for science, lead to him doing a ton of experiments that no sane man would do out of fear of losing life and limb -- and succeeding with them without getting injured, leading to some massive scientific breakthroughs. One of said breakthroughs involved prosthetic cybernetics. Whereas before even the most advanced cybernetic hand was still pretty stiff and rigid, his creation was almost as smooth as a real human hand. Of course, the only way to test this out was to graft it onto someone's hand. Due to a very annoying lack of volunteers, he ended up having to put it onto himself, with the help of a robot he had made earlier (after all, it's a bit hard to put a cybernetic hand onto yourself while still awake. Manipulating nerves tends to cause twitching and whatnot).
Either way, so in a way he
did lose a limb, albeit one that was prosthetic anyway. Besides, he got it replaced instantly, and the old thing was a piece of junk that was getting too small for him anyway, so eh. Who cares about insignificant details.like that when there's SCIENCE to advance, right? Ahahahahahah!
It was at this point that Rin drew the attention of Hope's Peak Academy. For one, his experiments, as dangerous and insane as they were, still were proof of great talent, considering a normal teenager would have long since gotten himself or others killed. Second, if they didn't do anything, chances were real that either he
would get himself or others killed some way or another, probably by virtue of another giant explosion, or that others would abuse his talent and lack of inhibition for their own profits. Figuring that the best way to keep everyone safe was to get Rin under their supervision, HPA did exactly that.
