Gabriel was born as the only son to the Blackthorn family. His parents, Shelia and Allen divorced before he was born because his father was highly abusive towards her.Fearful of the safety of both herself and her unborn child, she'd filed for divorce and there was a bitter fight of custody for Gabriel. Shelia was given custody to Gabriel because of Allen's abusive ways.
When Gabriel was three, Shelia met and married her second husband, Joey who was the exact opposite of Allen. There was discussion between the newly weds to have another child but it's a pity that the plan never went through because tragedy strikes.
One day in spring, a babysitter arrived at the Kurtis's house to take care of the toddler while the adults planned for their monthly romantic night. However, what greeted her was a scene from hell. Gabriel was bathed in his mother's blood and had left bloody handprints and footprints all around the living room and kitchen.
Shelia Kurtis was excited, it was her monthly romantic night with Joey after all and he'd promised her a surprise. She was humming a song under her breath and dancing a little when an unknown stranger approached her back with a towel wrapped around the pistol to mask any sounds. The first shot went through her jaw and escaped from her cheeks. She was still alive at that point in time and her first thought was for Gabriel's safety. Covering her wound with her hand, she rushed to the living room where the toddler was and ushered him to safety. The assailant took a knife from the kitchen and was hot on her trail. Shelia's protective instincts took over and she fought hard against him. Her defensive wounds would be proof to that. She was cut across her throat but managed to stagger towards the phone. She lost the battle before the 911 call could be completed.
Police was called in and it took them a year before they could find out who the real culprit was. Allen had hired an assassin to get rid of Shelia as his revenge against her. Mr. Blackthron was found guilty to first degree murder and sentenced to death. However, the sentence was reduced to life in prison without the chance to parole.
Growing up with a mother figure in his life was difficult for Gabriel. Although Joey did his best, there is no substitution for his mother. When he was fifteen, his father sat him down and told him the truth about what'd happened to Shelia. He'd thought that his mother passed away from cancer all this while, but it was an attempt by his father to protect him. Hearing the gruesome details made his blood chilled and he was asked if he'd wanted to see Allen.
'I refuse.' He said plainly, even if he'd never seen Shelia before, he held great respect to her. One of the reason being that Joey had nothing but praises for her. 'I do not wish to see anyone who is so callous, please do not bring up this man any more.'
Growing up, Gabriel had always been different. Partially due to what happened to him as a child, he tends to be aloof and keep to himself. However he carries a notebook with him that contains his sketches and writings. Both a talented artist and writer, his future is bright.
