Angels and Demons

Kaethe smirked as Ornias finally decided to play ball. He didn't retaliate, but his change of expression was all that she needed. Now that she was sure he wasn't going to back down or do nothing but deflect, her gaze flicked to Ru'mel. His glare was full of fury, which was exactly what she had wanted. Plus, he was soaked through, which amused her. She hurled several plates at them rapidly, not even a full second between each. The fact that food was still on most of them didn't matter - the kitchen was going to be filthy either way.

She stepped closer to them and lashed out, her fingers extended to claws and her fangs long enough to pierce skin if she got close enough. Aiming strikes at both of them, but more focused on Ornias, she shielded her back with her wings and put everything that she had into the fight. Her mind was still fighting against her, coming up at the worst moments to make her falter and pause.

Using only a hand to send the plates in another direction, Ornias' expression changed from being smug to an annoyed one. The food on the plates left stains everywhere, the floor, the window, the counter...he had expected the blows, it was the nearest weapon she had to her, but he had not expected her to lash out at both of them. He had to jump back, shielding himself with only his arms as her fangs came too close to him. 'Wild one it seems'. He took her by her shoulder and pushed her back, ignoring the claws that threatened to rip the flesh from his body. "A dance perhaps? People say it helps for stress relieving". His voice dripped with sarcasm and he could feel his ears getting hot, a clear symbol he was losing his cool.

If he had not already been soaked to the bone, Ru'mel would have been really, but really mad at Kaethe for ruining his clothes. He ducked as the food started to fly all around the place and had to roll over before she could rip his left arm. Kneeling at the other side of the kitchen, he saw how Ornias battled against the female demon. The hair on the back of his neck stood on end. This won't be having a happy ending. He furrowed his brow and prepared himself by taking a deep breath. He hadn't used one of his powers in a time, but he knew his aim would not fail him this time. And so he blew and flames danced from his mouth like serpents, slithering through the air towards Kaethe.

Meanwhile upstairs, Datenshi hear the commotion beneath him and sighed deeply, looking out the window. She was stirring up trouble again. Oh well, it wasn't his fault this time, thank lucifer. He decided to venture down to the garden, so he climbed through his window and fell effortlessly to the ground below. He wandered on his way, picked a small bouquet of flowers and jumped back into his window to go leave them for her. I am such a damned masochist. No matter how much she hurts me, I just keep digging in deeper.

Tamara flew over Ireland, Yin flew beside her keeping pace. It had been a good month for the two, plans were made, some were scrapped and others put aside, but the majority of the time was spent spending time with each other. She flew in close and tossed an apple over to Yin who caught it and preceded to take a bite out of it.

As much fun as they had, it was time for Tamara to return to her little experiment. Yin had a little more time before having to return to Hell for another century or two. So it was that they parted ways over the Atlantic Ocean.

She flew silently over a town, occasionally she would look down at the mortals going about their day and would smile, her 'kingdom' was doing okay. It was as she was flying over such a town when she faintly heard crying and screaming. Like the Angel she was swept in to investigate. She found, in an ally way, dark and empty, a young child crying over the body of a woman. Tamara landed opening of the ally and surveyed the scene. The girl was the source of the crying but not of the screaming, a closer look revealed the screaming to be coming from a small bundle that was laying to the side of the child.

She debated, a thing any full blooded angel would not do, as to whether or not she should take care of the two young children. A debate that ended when a small body ran full tilt in to her legs.
"Mommy's dead!" the sobbing voice reached Tamara's ears and reminded her that yes, children could see her.

Tamara sighed and knelt down giving the crying girl a comforting hug and murmuring soothing words into the child's ear. "It will be okay dear one. You'll see your mother again someday." She carefully picked the child up, resting her on her hip in a very experienced manner. "Will you take care of me? Mommy told me all about you! She said everyone had a Guardian Angel that would take care of them. You'll take care of me and my baby brother, won't you? The child's trusting voice calmed Tamara's conflicted nature, both halves settling down a little. "Yes, I'll take care of you both." Tamara murmured walking over to the squalling bundle and the dead woman. Quietly she said a prayer for the deceased mother and picked up the baby. "Hush now little one." she whispered to the crying babe. With a little manipulation of the two children's auras, she had the both of them soon asleep.

A wave of the hand and the body was consumed by the shadows. leaving no trace of the murder behind. For it was indeed murder, the young mother having been killed by a demon she knew well. It was his favorite target, a young mother with children, he would kill the mother and live the children alive for later.

Tamara said a prayer and took to the skies. Her wings beating effortlessly with the added weight of the two children. It was late evening that she reached the mansion built to contain the eight. She had flown non stop to get here, and with a sigh she landed in a shady patch on the roof. Her wings ached and she was very tired from flying in the sun. Within a few minutes she had the house create a small apartment for her and her charges. She settled them in their room and began getting the small place decorated to her tastes. She would have company soon no doubt. No rest for the weary.

Kaethe laid curled up on her bed, watching the wall as if there was something interesting there. There wasn't, of course, but she was too lost in thought to care. After completely destroying the kitchen by fighting the little lover boys, she had walked away without even finishing the fight. Ever since then, she had been here, in her room. When she felt like bathing, a small tub full of warm water would appear and she could cleanse herself without leaving the room. The same with eating and drinking and relieving herself. It all vanished as soon as she was done with it. Honestly, she had barely eaten since then and had lost all track of time. Nobody disturbed her at all. It was like they had all forgotten about her, or were glad that she wasn't causing problems anymore.

She looked down at her palm, where there was a small burn from the demon boy. Her attention soon drifted and she let her hand fall. Thinking of Datenshi for the first time in days, she wondered if the idiot had accepted that courting a demon was a stupid idea. She frowned slightly, annoyed at herself for ever entertaining even a faint idea of enjoying his attention. Flipping on to her other side, she stretched out her aching wings and resisted the urge to take a flight. There was no point in leaving the room until the year was over.

Datenshi sat in his room, which he hadn't left for days. No reason to. He sat in the corner of his room, partially hidden by his bed, earphones in, blaring his usual music. He didn't want to talk to anyone. He had been sketching non-stop for days and every one of the images were of her. He hated her. He hated himself. He hated how much he wanted her to think about him. He hadn't stopped with the roses, but they'd piled up at her door, forming a large bouqet of different colored wilted roses. He was hopeless. Pathetic. He was so sick to his stomach.

The children were awake. And crying. The young girl grieving for her lost mother and the baby boy was crying for food. Tamara certainly had her hands full. She comforted the girl as she thought of what to feed the baby. It had been awhile since she had taken in one so young. With a sigh Tamara took up both children and walked through the shadows. Her destination? Datenshi. He she could trust enough to watch the girl while she took care of the baby.

"Stop moping and get over it." She sighed to sulking demon. The little girl who had a death grip on Tamara's neck, giggled. This she thought would be fun!

The library was empty, well maybe except for the Angel that sat on top of one of the tables cross-legged and bare-chested, a book laying open between his legs and his half-moon glasses at the end of his nose. Ornias let out a long sigh. Nothing had being going on since his interesting little fight with Kaethe in the kitchen. Right after Ru'mel had breathed out flames from his mouth, she had left. Just like that. He got himself a small burn on his right shoulder, but it seemed to be vanishing slowly. His cool had failed him when he saw the demon disappear through the door, amused with herself. He had teared at his hair and yelled every curse he knew towards her. He hadn't spoken to Ru'mel after that. He just wandered about the mansion, going for a snack to the kitchen, go to the small gym the house provided or spending his time reading novels in the library. He barely went out for flights and he got almost none sleep, though this actually didn't matter to him. He sighed again and closed the book, hopping off the table. He had tried to talk to someone else, he truly had, but his usual indefference to everyone made him just walk pat them without even saying hello. Running his tongue through his teeth he dug his hands in his back pockets and exited the library, not really choosing a destination.

Ru'mel got out of his hot-as-hell shower, letting out a content sigh. He wrapped a towel around his lower torso and looked at himself in the mirror. His brown-reddish hair plastered to his forehead and the back of his neck, water trickling down his face. He pursed his lips and shifted his eyes, thinking about getting a haircut in a day or two. He had been somewhat lonely the past days, not seeing too much of his friend Ornias. The fight must have affected him badly was the only thought that he could think of reasonable enough to be the explanation for his behavior. To not go crazy because of boredom, he had played some jokes on the other house residents, he was discovered once by the Angel with black wings, her stare had been so blank he had actually just stumbled backwards in the shadows and turned a table to the side; afterwards he ran away and hid in his room. It was worth it, though. He chuckled and exited the bathroom, walking without any worry back to his accommodation to get some clothes and spend the day flying outside.

Datenshi's head snapped up to Tamara and... children? He stood in a flash, his eyes widening for a moment in confusion. When had she gotten there? Whose kids were those? The little girl was adorable.

"You have kids?"

Tamara rolled her eyes "No, these aren't kids. Their hungry monsters." She said sarcastically, a smile tugging at her lips. The little girl hid her face in Tamara's neck, overcome with shyness. Tamara shifted her weight from one foot to the other. " If you can get over yourself, you can watch this little one for me. Her brother needs fed." She sat down on the edge of the bed and set the little girl down, who promptly huddled in close.

"And no, they are not mine by blood. Their mother was killed." Tamara said giving an explanation even if one shouldn't have been needed. "If you want, come up with a new name for her. Its the least you can do since you've been sunk in depression."

"What's your name?" and so spoke the girl her first words to someone other than Tamara.

Datenshi sunk to his knees after discarding his headphones and a soft, loving smile formed on his lips. He reached out gently to the girl, a folded origami rose appearing in his hand in a flash of flames. He knew the little girl would feel more comfortable talking to someone her own height so he made sure to stay on his knees, their eyes level with each other.

"Well, darling, my name is Datenshi, but you can call me D since you're my new friend. What's your name?"

His voice was soft and kind, a new sparkle in his eyes. He loved children for some odd reason, and he was falling head over heels for this little girl. He glanced up at Tamara and spoke directly to her.

"Thank you, Tamara. I'll watch over her as if she were my own."

He brushed the little girl's cheek gently, tucking some hair behind her little ear.

Tamara watched Datenshi interact with her charge and nodded to herself. He would be a good caretaker when she wasn't present. The little girl flinched back at the display of flames, the memory of her mother's death still fresh in her mind. Tamara's presence helped keep her calm, and with a little manipulation on Tamara's part, was slowly forgetting the violent death of her mother.

"Seren." The little girl whispered reaching out hesitantly for the origami rose. She brought it up to her face and examined the rose with the intensity any six year old would give to something given to them.

"Good. I'll leave her under your care then for a bit. Take her around the house if you want, but protect her from the others if needed." Tamara accepted his thanks then turned to Seren. "You will stay here untill I return. I won't be gone for long. Behave for Datenshi for me." She murmured into the little one's ear and pried Seren's arms away from around her neck gently.

"I'll be back." Tamara said to Datenshi and with a nod, disappeared into the shadows with the baby.

Datenshi smiled lovingly at the little girl. She was beautiful to him already. He nodded as Tamara said she'd be back and disappeared then Datenshi stood and took Seren's dainty little hand carefully.

"So, Miss Seren, what shall we do? Shall we go see the others?"

He walked out of the room talking and laughing with the girl, passing Kaethe's room and not even glancing at it for the first time in quite a while. He was too busy thinking of fun things to keep Seren busy to worry about a stuck-up princess like Kaethe.

Kaethe stirred slightly for the first time in more than a full day, her body turning slightly as she tilted her head. Something had caught her attention, and it took a long minute for her senses to detangle themselves enough to identify it. Finally she realized what it was and nearly sat up in shock. A child. There was a child somewhere nearby. She reached over to her nightstand and picked up the mirror that showed her anything she wanted to look at, feeding it the thought of the child. It was blank for a moment, but then she saw Datenshi kneeling beside a little girl. She was cute, and Datenshi was actually smiling. Was that what he looked like when he was really happy?

Pained, she set the mirror back down and listened to their voices pass by her door. It did not go unnoticed to her that when Datenshi mentioned the others, he didn't mean her. Of course she was excluded. She was the bitchy, dangerous demon. Or, if Tamara was to be believed, half demon. Neither side wanted her around, she realized. She didn't click with demons and she certainly didn't get along with angels. Humans were boring and feared her, and animals didn't like getting close to her either. There wasn't a single type of being that she got along with. She didn't even have a person she'd label as a friend.

'You're useless! I should have killed you when you killed your mother! No, stop apologizing. Your tears just show how insignificant you really are. Pick up that broken glass and go sleep outside!'

Pushing away the memory of her father from when she was a toddler, Kaethe slid off her bed and padded barefoot over to her window to gaze outside. There was no point in staying here. It was all just a sick game, one that she refused to play anymore. They obviously weren't going to get along, so why prolong it? She turned from the window and sat back on the edge of her bed, her wings wrapped around her body as she thought about just taking the easy way out.

After he had introduced her to the others, Datenshi scooped Seren upstairs on his shoulders, bouncing her and laughing. He saw the bundle of flowers at the doorstop of Kaethe and he bit his lip a little then sighed, focusing, and set Seren down, kneeling in front of her and asking if she would pick up the flowers in front of the door. After the little girl obeyed, Datenshi placed a hand on her head and knocked on Kaethe's door. Hopefully, she'd calmed down. He wasn't thinking of her like he used to. Most of him was ready to pounce to protect his.... to protect Seren. But one part, one little part, was worried for Kaethe. There must be some reason she didn't get along with others. He waited patiently and Seren called out quietly.

"Hello? Miss lady I have something for you!"

Datenshi had told Seren that he had one more friend for her to meet, but his friend was a sad lady that didn't really like to be interrupted by others. He chuckled as Seren's sweet voice called out through the door and he smiled down at her, feeling truely happy for the first time in his entire life.

It wouldn't be hard, Kaethe reasoned as she sat there. Sure, she'd have to deal with Lucifer forever, but she was going to have to do that anyway. What difference did dying make? Absolutely none. She knew that any belongings of value that she had were either stored away where nobody would find them or would simply be taken by whoever grabbed it first, which didn't bother her. Now all she had to do was decide how. Hanging was too cliche and poison would take too long. She was just starting to consider having the house provide her with a blade when she heard a small voice talking through her door. The girl child.

She slowly unwrapped her wings from around her body and turned her head to stare at the door. Miss lady? She was far from a lady. What did the child have? An insult from Datenshi? A desire to see the beast of the house? She frowned and nearly didn't bother to answer the door, but then she reminded herself that it wasn't Datenshi asking her to open up. It was a child. An innocent. Somebody that shouldn't be exposed to people like themselves. She slowly stood and made her way over to the door, staring at the doorknob for several long moments before she finally grasped it and pulled it open just enough to be seen and see out.

Her blonde curls were tangled and disheveled, half tossed up in a bun but mostly falling out at odd angles from not fixing it for a long time. The bright blue eyes that normally sparkled with amusement were dull and faintly bloodshot from suddenly being exposed to more light than she had in her room, and her skin was paler than usual. It'd been weeks since she went outside. She wore an oversized black tshirt that hung off one shoulder and some baggy pajama pants that hid how thin she had gotten. Her focus, though, was not on herself but rather the little girl who was standing there holding a big bunch of wilted flowers.

"For me?"

Seren nodded her head, her wild red hair falling a bit into her eyes and Datenshi smiled and chuckled before looking up to Kaethe. Goodness, the woman looked sick almost. It worried him a bit but he decided not to say anything. Besides even if he did, Kaethe would probably hit him or something. Seren tried to hold up the roses and Datenshi finally spoke, breaking the silence.

"They were just lieing outside your door, all in a pile. Can't imagine why. So I decided you'd need a bit of cheering up. Besides, I told Seren just how beautiful you are and she had to see you."

Seren handed the flowers to Kaethe, her origami rose twisted delicately into her red locks, and she smiled in awe at the tall, beautiful woman. She must be a princess, or a fairy, Seren decided. She giggled cutely and looked up at Datenshi.

"She's a prettiest princess ever just the way you said, D!"

She looked back to Kaethe but said nothing, only smiled. She was a bit overwhelmed by the woman's aura. The woman was beautiful, sure, but she had anger around her. Even Seren could feel it. She braved it, though. Someone who was sad like this lady was deserved a friend. She raised her hand to Kaethe and spoke quietly.

"Can I be your best friend, Princess lady?"

Datenshis heart swelled and he felt tears well up at such an innocent beauty asking such a lost soul to be friends. He sighed gently as the tears faded and he crouched, tucking her fly away hair behind her tiny ear.

"Sweetheart, her name is Kaethe. And she may be a bit tired... Maybe we should come back later?"

He looked up at Kaethe with a soft expression. What would she do? Hopefully she wouldn't be so rude as to push this wounded child away...

Looking up at Datenshi, Kaethe felt stunned. Rather than warning the girl that the demon woman might rip her stomach out and shove it down her throat, he had told her that Kaethe was.. beautiful? She was confused, and looked back down at the girl as she labeled her a princess. Feeling utterly lost, she took the flowers and looked down at them. Even wilted they held a deep beauty. The colors were faded but never entirely lost, and the streaks of blackness just made the colors that much more attractive. She ran one fingertip against a dry rose petal and relaxed slightly. This wasn't the type of conversation she had expected at all.

She looked back at the girl as she asked to be her best friend, caught too off guard to respond right away. Her silence apparently cued Datenshi to step in, and she had to look away. Tired. Yes, she was tired, but not in the sleepy sense. More like tired of being. She swallowed the urge to sigh and looked back up at the girl with the faintest trace of a smile. It was the best she could manage, and it didn't even feel sincere, though it was.

"I would like to have you as a friend, dear heart. Thank you for picking my flowers up for me," she finally said, her voice cracking slightly from not using it for so long. She set the flowers aside on her dresser and paused, then looked back at Seren. "Goodbye, Seren," she said softly, waving for a moment before gently closing her door and sliding down against it until she was sitting on the floor.

Datenshi watched Kaethe as she closed the door, Seren smiling, yet confused. Datenshi knelt and spoke gently, his hand on the girls shoulder as he asked her to wait in his room for him but close the door until he came. She agreed and bounded off, leaving Datenshi to stand and lean against the door, knocking gently and speaking low, knowing she would hear him. He didn't want to be too loud.

"Kaethe, may I speak with you please? No yelling, no fighting, no anger or hate, just two adults, talking in civilized tones. I don't know about you, but I am both physically and mentally exhausted with all of our bickering. I'd like to speak with you as a friend."

Kaethe sighed as Datenshi spoke to her through the door, not wanting to get up or even respond to him. However, she had to get up anyway to crawl back in bed, so she figured that she might as well find out what he had to say. Maybe he was pissed that she didn't spend more time talking to Seren. The girl was young enough that she'd probably forget Kaethe existed in a few days anyway so a long conversation was useless. Besides, she had nothing to say to a child who deserved a more cheerful companion. She frowned and got up, bothered by how much energy it took to just do that.

"What do you want?" she asked quietly after she had opened the door a few inches, leaning tiredly against the doorframe as she hid her weakness. Her tone wasn't angry or snapping, or even impatient. It was just quiet and distant, actually wanting to know what he wanted.
