World of Darkness: SILENT HILL

    You remember dying.

    The gun is levelled at you, and you are powerless to resist as your attacker pulls the trigger. You starve on the sidewalk, unknown and unwanted by society. The wind rips at your skin, and you feel your soul begin to leave your frozen, battered body. You take your last shuddering, desperate breath as you waste away on the hospital bed. You see the headlights of the car bearing down upon you, trapped like a rabbit, unable to escape your fate.

    You don't want to die.

    You've done bad things in your life, things that make you feel ashamed of yourself, yet still you feel you have so much to live for, so much you could have done. Death is terribly final, it's embrace one you have never sought. If only there was a means of escape, if only you could have a second chance. If only, if only...

    Then the Spirit comes to you.

    It gives you a choice.

    It will force the bullets from your torso. It will keep you alive through the night. It will stop the wind's assault on your body. It will drive the disease from you. It will repair the damage done by the front of the car.

    But it has to come back with you, become a part of you. A figure made entirely of shell casings. A naked, emaciated woman with no face. A deformed man with a boar's head and cloven hoofs for feet. A rotting pile of cancerous flesh with a face at the top, locked in a perpetual scream. A skeleton man dressed in a burned tuxedo.

    And it wants you to do something for it, once you come back. A price for bringing you back from Death.

    The Spirit wants you to go to Silent Hill...

    'World of Darkness: SILENT HILL' is a combination of Konami's Silent Hill franchise and White Wolf's World of Darkness RPG (if not both, carry out corporal punishment on yourself now, then continue reading); if you clicked this link, you've probably heard of one or both of them. You take the role of an ordinary person with a dark secret in their past, someone who has recently died and yet been brought back by a Spirit, a creature from Undeath that has become fused with your soul.

    And it wants you to take a trip to a certain New England town called Silent Hill.

    I think you see where the game will go from here.

    If you've never played World of Darkness before, don't worry. I'm fairly new to the system myself, and if I'm able to learn it, I'm pretty sure you will be able to, as well. It's less confusing than D&D, focusing more on storytelling and roleplaying rather than stats and loot, making it perfect for a Forum RP.

    So what do you need?

    It's probably best if you have a copy of the World of Darkness corebook, as this will make creating your character a little easier, but this isn't necessary; between TheNeverThere, Boss Frost and I, we should be able to get people through the process via the CBox.
     
  2. CHARACTER SHEETS

    The character sheet below is to help you flesh out your character, if you're still trying to figure him/her out - it is NOT the actual character sheet; that's attached to this post.

    You're character also requires a secret in their past, a transgression they have committed. They could feel guilty about it, it might not bother them, it's possible they don't even remember it, but your character did something wrong. Anything from murder to kidnapping to claiming the home of a man who was then forced onto the streets and subsequently died. Don't post this secret; PM it to me.

    Other than your character, you also need to design the Spirit that brought your character back to life. It has become part of your character, binding itself to their soul; it's the voice in the back of their head, the face they see next to theirs in the mirror. And it's constantly whispering for them to go to Silent Hill, it's demand never ceasing until they comply. The Spirit has been drawn to your character because of their will to live and the circumstances of their death; the Spirits' appearances reflect their hosts' deaths. A boy gunned down in the street will find himself accompanied by a sack-doll with bullet holes for eyes and shell-casings for teeth, for example.

    HISTORIC BACKGROUND

    History: Jack has always been laid-back and lazy. When he was younger, he used to smoke weed, though he has since quit after being arrested twice. He then switched to cigarettes, though he stopped smoking several years ago. He recieved average grades in grade through high school, and went to a community college. He dropped out after two years along with a friend of his to open The Dragon's Playground at Navy Pier, Chicago. That was 4 years ago. As of two weeks ago, he's been on med. leave from his job after being hit by a bus and being tossed into a coma for two days. Now, in order to rid himself of the annoying spirit that haunts him, he has taken his vacation early and has set off for Silent Hill.

    Extra Note: His grandfather used to go on safaris, and it is from him that Jack got the majority of his training with fire arms and blades. It is also from his grandfather that Jack recieved his kukri.

    Weaknesses: Can not swim, is afraid of heights, is rather near sighted and almost completely blind without his glasses.

    Current Goal/Purpose: To be successful in his business, making sure people keep reading and reading a lot.
    Talents: Is very agile and rather athletic despite his more bookish uncoordinated appearance. Due to his very skinny build, he can fit through smaller places that most people could not.
    Inabilities: Has a bad right shoulder so he has a good chance of throwing it out of socket. His asthmatic tendencies keep him from running for lengths that would normally be fine for anyone else.

    General Personality: Normally a calm, deep thinking, helpful personality; though has a bit of a short fuse.
    Inner Personality: Sometimes has dangerous thoughts when he becomes angry, thoughts that he has to keep under great control or bad things could happen.

    HISTORIC BACKGROUND

    History: Was just a normal working guy, never really bothering people and only running his book store. He had owned his store for 4 years, keeping it open every Monday-Friday 9am-6pm; until one day Aaron had went to a warehouse to pick up a shipment of books at a new warehouse. When he arrived no one was there though he found a list telling him where to find the books. Unfortunately for him he had to climb up a large ladder to get the box. Even more unfortunately, the ladder slipped while he was at the top. Plummeting down, a piece of the metal shelving broke off and grabbed his skin, ripping most of it off. Strangely, he awoke soon after to find himself still alive, despite the twenty-five foot drop and having most of his skin ripped from his body. A spirit stayed with him from that point, demanding he go to some place called Silent Hill. Not being able to take the relentless demanding, he closed his shop and left to go find this strange town the spirit wanted him to go to.

    Appearance: Dressed in the robe it had been wearing when it was murdered at a costume party, the majority of its skin and muscles are missing from its skeleton.

    General Appearance: Hardly ever caught out of his tailored suit, small rectangular glasses, and black leather gloves, Vin really -looks- the part of a conniving lawyer scumbag. Black hair, well-trimmed and slicked back into a braided ponytail. He's the tall, gaunt, cold-looking type one normally finds portrayed as a villain in action movies.

    General Personality: Kind, courteous, and always friendly, Vin still has a sort of greasy aura that isn't hard to pick up on... many say it's from his job.
    Inner Personality: Vin doesn't like people. After defending the worst known people imaginable, seeing the flaws of humanity has made him cold and unsympathetic to the populace at large. Though he does do his best to defend his clients, most of the time he honestly hopes that he looses his cases, just so that the scum he defends are sent where they belong.

    HISTORIC BACKGROUND

    History: Vin was picked on from a very early age, mostly because of his appearance and accent. While more intelligent than the other children, he was always failing on the things kids find 'important'... and, as he grew older, was a loner who just barely assembled enough friends to keep him relatively sane.

    He lost his mother at the age of fourteen, when his drunk stepfather (angry about the coming divorce), broke in and slew her - going so far as to copulate and mutilate the corpse afterward. He was tried - Vin himself testified, and the stepfather was sentenced to death himself.

    Gratified, Vin began to study law... the ability to force the vile individuals of the world into their just rewards, and defend those that needed defending appealed to him...

    At least, that's how it started.

    Soon, the illusion vanished. There were no good people, he came to realize. Each and every person he defended... did the crime. Every person he prosecuted... were equally guilty. His growing sense of heartbreak at the way the world had become did not make him loose his sense of justice... only enflame it.

    ...Still... he has to eat, and he isn't about to live in filth... the money gained from these cases allows him to keep his lifestyle.

    It was inevitable, however, that he would loose his first case. Which happened. The man he was defending was sent to jail - death row... and escaped. Said man killed many of the jury, the judge, and Vin himself.

    Interaction With Character: Places a heavy hand on Vin's shoulder or back when a hard choice must be made. Never gives information in the form of a statement- always in the form of a question or riddle. Never shows approval... or disapproval. The Inquisitor is subtle, quiet and calm about his work, though the foolish actions of others might incite a sorrow-filled sigh from the creature. The sound of flames can be heard in the background of his voice... unless he has the chance to peak to Vin directly from a flame.<!-- / message -->

    General Personality: n the surface hes pretty together and easy to get along with. Easy talking and friendly though there are hard points to his personality especially if hes pressed, most noticeable is hes frustrated or stressed when he'll lose his temper a lot more easily.
    Inner Personality: His inner personality is a lot less stable that he is on the surface. There is the constant paranoia that someone will find out about his drinking problem, the denial that it exists, and the embitterment over is wife leaving his for a late ex-college along with guilt.

    HISTORIC BACKGROUND

    History:

    Bradly spent almost his entire life in Seattle. The son on a successful lawyer he chose to study in the field of medicine as a surgeon. He married his highschool sweetheart, Ronda, while he was in medical school.

    Shortly after graduating and starting work his wife was found to be sterile, and with her dream of a family was shattered. They started arguing over weather or not to adopt and thats when Bradly stated drinking.

    As their relationship deteriorating He found out that she was seeing a doctor in the radiology department he flew into a rage and beat her with a table leg. The divorced almost immediately and rarely spoke after that.

    His death was an accident. An empty bottle in the passenger seat he put his foot down and raced down the freeway. He hit 150 and kept going. He was out of the city limits then he saw the headlights of the truck and swerved.

    History: Lyle lost his brother when he was 11 and has been spiralling ever since. He never fitted in, never made friends, never lasted in any job or any town. His waking hours were plagued by sexual fantasies and obsessive dwellings that border on paranoia. With his parents dead, all links to a normal life had been severed and he remained a virgin and a recluse, barely scraping by with a job entering numbers on an office computer. All was empty and cold and dark. And when, last winter, he lost control of his car while masturbating at the wheel, nobody mourned him. And that was when she came...

    General Personality: On the outside, Jack is a spy. Smooth, sophisticated, fast, witty, and an almost political liar. Shmoozing, blather, interrogating, Jack's made an art of speech. For every traffic cop he can't persuade, there is a bar out there that can. When he isn't getting something from someone, be it drinks or a loan, you get a small glimpse of his true self. Quiet, reflective, always in reverie, some would say Jack is a peaceful man.
    Inner Personality: He's not. Inside, it's utter turmoil. Regret, despair, baseless hate, swirl in a maelstrom of emotional pain. What he has done is the work of a psychopath, but he has no immunity from emotion. A single lapse and he is damned. It may yet come again, so Jack's only goal is to get away from people, more for him than for the safety of others.

    "You know what Dad, FUCK YOU!" Many father's hear the same thing. Teenage rebellion, right? No, this was something else, the beginnings of hate. Not just hate, but murderous rage. It boiled inside of him, as he lay in his bed.

    It was odd, he was caught..No, not caught, suspended aboce the rage. It held itself perfectly in check, just behind the surface, waiting to be released. Deep inside himself was a sea of black hate, waiting for the wind to stir. He sat behind the wheel of his Firebird, outside his son's highschool. Thinking over what happened, the black rage gave an almost-imperceptible twitch, and his hand tightened to whitened knuckles on the leather of the steering wheel. He looked up, and saw his son walking sullenly towards him. It snapped

    The wave crashed forward, Jack's face twisted into a rictus of fury. All he had done for the kid, everything he had worked hard to achieve, SQUANDERED! No respect, and to go behind his back, lie about it, then admit to enjoying it, to his face, was unforgivable. Jack snarled out loud, startling a nearby family, and gunned the engine, eyes trained on the bastard who he was supposed to love and care for.

    Jack stared up blankly at the white-robed attendants just outside his room. They thought he couldn't hear them speaking, but the heavy iron door was open slightly, the fat one forgot it needed pressure to close all the way. The maintenance team hadn't gotten to it yet.

    "..Dude, no way, she let you do it?"
    "Yeah man, I just told..."
    "She AGREED to it afterward?!" The fat one pulled on the door again, closing it entirely. Jack closed his eyes.

    "Alright, Mr. Clark, time for your midday supplement!" The guy from before came in, carrying a tray with those loathsome foil cups, full of drugs to make sure Jack didn't assure them he wasn't crazy.

    "You know I don't need those, Mr. A." The man frowned
    "What?"
    "Mr. A, you guys seem to discourage me having anything to hold onto, to keep me from going insane. I guess you guys really like me around here. Congratulations, by the way."
    "What are you talking about?"
    "Your kid. I suggest private schools, less people. Avoid the parking lots." The guy was thoroughly confused.
    "How did you...?" Jack tried his best eery smile. It was good to finally start some mind games of his own.
    "Uh, your midday supplement.."
    "Fuck that. You have a name for him?" The attendant focused on tamping the pills down Jack's throat, ignoring his ramblings.
    "She might have been toying with you. Women do that. It happened to me. The whore took birth control and faked her test. Don't know how, but you never know. Are you sure that's not what your bitch is doing?" It wasn't smooth, worming, suave-ly disturbing. It was the black hatred, felt only once before, building silently behind it's own imposed barriers. It wasn't baseless, floating randomly about anymore. It had something to focus on, something to hold onto. To hold back the ever-encroaching snapping point, where the last vestiges of his sanity would fall away, turn him into a gibbering wreck.

    Jack glared into the face of the attendant, who was smiled vacuously at him. The attendant neared him, smiling nervously now, despite his training, that level of hate made him uneasy. He bent over to give the pills to Jack, who spat in his face. Anger flickered over his face. He reared back, wiping it from his face. He turned around, looked at Jack, and punched him.

    Three months later, they let Jack out on probation. Aside from an isolated incident, he showed all the signs of mental health. It had slipped by now, submerged in a sea of loathing. Jack figured he could drown any emotion if he had enough hate. At the moment he did. He walked up the steps to the door. He depressed the doorbell, and stood with his hands behind his back. A mousy woman opened the door.

    "Hello?"
    "Jamie Perrens?"
    "Yes.."
    "You are engaged to Tyler Andrews?"
    "What is this?" In his most imperious, FBI voice, he answered,
    "Answer the question, ma'am."
    "Yes, I am." The silent hate began to twitch once more. He felt it like the recognization of an old friend. Behind his back, he tightened reflexively on the scalpel he held.
    "May I come inside?" An insidious grin spread on his face, and he snapped again.

    Tears fell onto the tiled floor as Tyler injected 550 mL of anasthesia into Jack's arm.
    "Bastard..."


    SPIRIT CHARACTERISTICS

    Name: Atropos
    Appearance: [​IMG]
    Interaction With Character: Insane giggles, fits of sobbing, random screeching. It forms a cacophony of the asylum, his voice changing to imitate all sorts of criminally insane. These are audible only to Jack. It's sole physical manifestation is the black hate, taking something in Jack's mind and amplifying, magnifying, and controlling it. Before it took months of periodical hate-meditation of sorts to form it, but Atropos shortens it by half. Most importantly, he controls it.

    An Idea of what he sounds like, less bestial and more maniacal. He can imitate people Jack knows as well, but only to laugh, cry, scream, or express an emotion in the loudest way. Speech is almost impossible, although it can conjure a sort of down-syndrome gurgling which is understandable, with practice.

    In all honesty, we're doing awesome. I was happy to settle at three; we have double that.

    I would say that I'm a bit wary of Khang's guy having Morality 2, but it does reflect the character, so I'll go with it.
