What One Thinks is Only A Monster...

The next day the pup was waiting eagerly, pacing around the front of the cage.
As soon as the hunter started to come inside Razgul leaned down, splaying out his wings to help him balance as he bit at the boar.
When he got a decent grip on the food he yanked it out of the human's hands and started to shred it apart hungrily.
Figuring the man wanted to check his leg he pushed it out a little for him.
It honestly looked so much better after just a few days.
To think that if the hunter hadn't come back his leg would probably have seized up and been completely irreparable by now.

He could put weight on it quite easily but there was still a noticeable limp.
Hopefully that would be good enough because god he wanted to go home so badly.

The hunter was just about to start talking to the wolf when the Fat man called to him from the house. Rolling his eyes he told the pup to wait a moment and left to go see what was up. It was a long ten minutes before he came back, the look on his face not happy.

He checked on the wolf's leg, shaking his head lightly, "I would've liked one more day, but genius" nodding to the house indicating the fat man, "there has set up some elaborate tournament for tomorrow with some of his prized pets against any man that pays to get in the ring with them...and he wants you the top tier. So we've gotta leave tonight, no way am I letting that happen to you." Watching the pup's reaction carefully.

Once the human returned and gave him the news the boy shifted immediately.
Oh yes, he did not look happy.
"Fight? No right! I hurt!"
That was totally unfair putting him into some type of tournament with an injured leg.
Even if it was close to being healed it still wasn't.
The kid poofed out his cheeks in annoyance before blowing out the air and speaking again.
"Leaving night."

He flexed his wings, glad that his previous injury was just a scar.
The boy was still missing a few feathers but he had plenty...

"Fly night."
A second later he was back in wolf form and sliding under the man's legs, scooping him up onto his back before standing.
His back leg protested but he would be flying, not running with him on his back.
The pup flexed his wings and reared up slightly to test the weight.
With the last few days of great meals he knew he could managed a few good miles, especially if he glided.

The man nodded, agreeing that it wasn't right to put an injured animal, or any for that matter in a tournament like that. Fighting for animals should be for necessity, he felt, not sport or entertainment of humans. Seeing the wings spread out still amazed the hunter, but as the wolf came between his legs the man actually panicked a little.

"Whoa...hold on there, Raz, What do you think you're doing?"As his feet were lifted from the ground his hands automatically pulled at the fur on the back of the wolf's neck holding on for his life. Climbing a top buildings, okay; high up in trees, sure; flying? Not a chance! "Raz put me down. Now." There was definitely a bit of fear in his tone mixed with the dominance he thought he'd gained...

The slightly scared request had Razgul wondering...
Then he was running for the open door and jumping a good fifteen yards up into the air.
How about that, injured leg?

His wings unfurled completely, easily tripling his body length sideways.
They flapped swiftly at first to gain momentum, then caught an air current and they were up faster then they could have fallen.
Within seconds the pup and hunter were miles up, nearly ants in the sky.

Sure they were supposed to leave tonight but there weren't enough guards awake right now to be able to manage a flying escapee.
And hell, he had the hunter with him, the fat man probably wouldn't send anyone out to catch them for at least a day or two.
He would probably just think he was training the pup for the fighting.

Did I mention he was enjoying that flight beyond all belief?
To actually be out of that disgusting cage and free to fly again?
AMAZING!!

"Ohhhh...Gods No! Raz PUT ME DOWN!" by now the man had his eyes shut tight, face buried into the pup's back and arms wrapped around his neck, holding on for dear life. Se was suddenly there, screeching at the wolf too, sensing her owner's fear at flying.

A guard down below did notice the wolf flying away, but like expected, he saw the hunter and shrugged it off for the moment. It wouldn't be till a few hours later, when the Fat man had missed his meeting with the hunter that something felt suspicious to him, and not until nightfall with no sign of either did he send a set of guards out looking for the pair.

Heh, Razgul was totally getting some payback from all the crap the hunter put him through.
He wouldn't kill him but he was definitely flying much faster and higher than he normally would.

It was about five hours later when they finally landed.
Raz trotted to a halt as his legs finally landed, then he ducked and the hunter went head over heals over his shoulders.
Grass...
Oh boy.
The pup was in human form and stretched out happily.
They'd landed in a field somewhere south a good forty miles or so.

Hopefully Esca was gonna catch dinner cause Razgul was beyond tired now.

The second the hunter went tumbling off the wolf's back, he crawled at least a good ten feet away, shaking, his composure completely lost. He was scared shitless for five house straight...and the nerves worked themselves up now into anger as he sat on the ground staring wildly at the boy.

"Do you realize what you've done Raz? There was a reason I said we'd wait for night fall! Who the hell knows where we are now, I have no supplies, my horse is back there somewhere, wherever in the gods' creation that city is..." his arms were pointing in different directions a few times, cause he really was just out of it and lost. The flight completely messed up his sense of direction, and the panic attack he was having definitely stopped him from realizing he did have Se to help regain his bearings.

The boy didn't seem to honestly care.
He enjoyed the crisp grass for several more minutes before sitting up in a blur.
Something was close...
In a flash the boy was back in his wolf form and chasing a small dear across the field they'd landed in.
He hadn't noticed it since the creature had frozen when they landed but now he did and within a few seconds he was tromping back to the hunter and dropping the deer half-on him.

Then he was back in human form again, grinning.
"Essa cook??"
Oh yes, he wanted to try cooked food, the boy had never had it...

When the kid took off he shook his head and was about to call out something about finding his own way home, cause he was in such a mood. But it wasn't long before the pup was back and dragging the kill to him. As the broken neck of the deer dropped into his lap, a brow raised at the question.

After a long sigh and pause, he shook his head, "This is huge to cook, it'll take hours, I can cook part of it...a piece for you and me, okay?" pointing to the kid then himself. He was very thankful he carried his flint on his person just in case, cause otherwise he'd have no hopes really of starting a fire, which meant more danger than just not being able to cook his food.

"Piece yes?"
The boy seemed to think for a moment, then understand.
The man didn't want to make such a big fire so he would just cook a few bits of it.
So, as soon as the human cut out pieces Razgul started to eat the deer in wolf form.
He left most of the carcass alone though because he wanted the cooked food first before he stuffed himself.
So while the man was cooking Raz snuggled up against him peacefully.
I think with a few years of strict training he'd make a really good house pet...

Sighing, the hunter gathered some twigs and branches and within ten minutes had a fire going. As the fire burned down to enough coals, the better part to use for cooking, the man cut off two decent sized slices of shoulder, making sure the hide was fully removed. Skewering them on a stick each, he shoved the empty ends into the ground in such a way as to all the meat to hang over the heat of the fire.

When the pup came over and started leaning and nuzzling, Eska couldn't help but calm down more, reaching over and scratching lightly behind the ears (assuming he didn't shift back to snuggle :P). It was becoming obvious to the man he was growing attached to this creature, maybe even more so than his hawk, just don't tell Se that!

Once the meat was finally cooked decently, the hunter pulled the make shift skewers from the ground and handed one out to the boy. "Here..." Before the pup's was even taken, Eska was sinking his teeth into his own and making happy sounds, he'd been hungrier than he thought.

The pup was definitely enjoying the ear scratches.
Maybe he would keep this human for just that...
However, right now there was a nice hot piece of cooked! food being offered to him and he quickly shifted to grab the stick and dig in.
The boy literally moaned happily at the delicious taste.
Heck, he'd eaten meat all his life but none had tasted as good as this!
Wonder what grilled human tasted like...

Oh well, he didn't want to grill Esca.
As soon as they were both done Razgul yawned widely and got up, heading over towards a large shady tree.
It was starting to get really hot, the time being around two or three in the afternoon.
The heat index was ridiculous for his black fur and being in human form wasn't easy to hold long when it was hot, so sleeping it was.
Raz plopped down against the tree, looking up at the hunter in hopes that he'd join him.

At first the hunter didn't move, stroking Se's feathers after she landed on his hand while Raz moved away. The man was softly cooing at her and giving her small pieces of the meat the wolf had caught. The fire was nearly out, and he wanted the smoke to stop before night fall, so standing as he sent his hawk off to fly, the hunter kicked dirt over the fire before finally being confident enough to start stamping it with his own leather booted foot.

When the man finally looked over at the pup, sitting in human form under the tree, he moved closer and sat on the left side of the boy, not really that close. His hands were firmly on the ground, letting his head rest against the trunk. It was still light, he wanted to get a sense of where they were before nightfall so they could travel at night still. And so Eska's eyes clouded over, seeing Se's flight and directing her some until he found the city again. There were actually only maybe an hour north, and twenty minutes west of the city the fat man lived in. It would be possible for the hunter to stop briefly then and grab his horse for the journey after all.

At some point during the hunters little vision trick Razgul had come awake and scooted over enough to grab one of the man's legs in a strong hug.
It wasn't for food but for the closeness again.
He craved contact like any other canine and if the other wasn't going to snuggle with him he'd snuggle with the other.
At least that was how his sleepy mind thought about it.
Within a few minutes his mind was content with his new position and it slowly drifted back off to sleep.
Ahhh, comfy leg, you never fail as a good pillow.

The sudden arms wrapping around his leg startled the hunter enough to break his vision with Se, though just long enough to look down at the boy. A small smirk curled the corner of his lips, and as he went back to searching the area with Se, his hand came up and ran through Raz's hair softly. Eventually Eska did fall asleep, for a couple hours they sat there, his back to the tree, the pup curled up against his leg.

As night fell, the hunter lightly shook the boy awake, "Time to move. We're just a bit northwest of the city, so when we get closer, you'll hide, and I'm going to get my horse, alright?"

The sleep had definitely been needed.
But not just the hours of rest but the location.
Out in the forest in the grass where he belonged.
It energized him so much more then any rest he'd gotten in the last few weeks.
He rolled over, his head moving onto Esca's lap with a quiet moan.

At the shaking his eyes blinked open and he growled with a grin.
Puppy wanted to play...?
"Move!"
Raz grabbed the hunter's shirt and dragged him over his own body and into the grass.
Then he was on top of him, biting at his neck and shoulder several times.
Yeah, he was trying to play like a wolf while still in human form.

Well that wasn't expected...As he was grabbed and forced to the ground, Eska started to reach for his knife at his side. When he realized the kid was playing however, his hand stopped, resting on the hilt while the second one pushed at Raz's face. "Hey come on now, this isn't play time..." after a couple more minutes struggling against the pup the hunter finally resorted to trying a new approach, "Down boy!" if that didn't work he was plum out of ideas that didn't involve brandishing a sharp blade at the kid's throat.

The boy really enjoyed the struggle, thinking the other male was trying to play with us.
However, once he was told 'down' he quickly backed off and squatted in the grass with a pouting face.
He just wanted to play and blow off some steam...mean butthead...
At least he used his brain.
Raz knew the other man had weapons and considering he was still free and uninjured he wanted to remain that way.
Tilting his head to the side he grinned.
"Flying?"

Eska lay there on the grass after a moment when he was finally free of the boy. Standing up, the kid asked about flying again and immediately he shook his head, waving a finger down at the pup. His tone firm, "No. We are not flying again." Maybe it would be faster, but he still wanted his horse, and damn it, flying scared the shit of out the man. As he brushed the rest of himself off, a hand coming to rub the soreness out of the bites on his neck, the hunter looked to the sky and got his bearings. If north was that way, then he needed to go the opposite, and promptly turned himself in the proper direction.

The hunter didn't even wait for Raz, he just started walking. He'd already told the boy his plans for how they would travel, and at this point, if the kid listened great, if not, he was on his own. Eska's conscious was cleared enough by helping the boy escape, more than that was just icing.
