The first roleplay character I ever created I named Noctis because it means night in Latin, mainly because giving my fire elemental a fiery Latin name sounded weird (and it had to be Latin for reasons). I chose Night because I couldn't help but imagine burning villages and villages must always burn at night (it's a rule). Eventually people just started calling me Noctis and no matter how many times I change my screen name people who know me as Noctis still call me Noctis and it pretty my took over my life. It has been pronounced with a hard o as in "no" and a soft o as in "not". I answer to both. Eventually I pulled a thing and now one my friends greet me with "Noctis! You Devious Bitch!"
I liked it so I kept it: Noctis the Devious.
Some people like to shorten to Noc, however, or my personal favorite, Nox.
