Xibalba beckons.

War between the planetary authorities and their spacebound rivals looms.

And humanity, for the first time in it's brief existence, must come to terms with a truly terrifying fact.

We are not alone in the cosmos.

The things from the google doc so I can reads while I'm not home

  • It's the future (shock horror)
    • The middle of the third millennium (2400-2500)
  • Mankind has done its best to spread into the stars, though faster than light travel remains out of reach
    • Primary means of space travel are lightsail systems/fusion engines that allow vessels to travel up to 20% the speed of light: fast as fuck, but long journeys are still a necessity
    • Humanity has successfully reached and colonised Alpha Centauri, and a terraforming initiative is well under way on Proxima Centauri b (re-named Pangu)
    • Other terraforming initiatives underway on other planets within the system, though these are not nearly as far on as Pangu
    • Many artificial stations within the system that humans reside on
  • Technology is advanced, but not to the point of gaudiness
    • Think railguns and high-powered engines rather than warp speed and ray guns
    • ALSO CYBERNETICS COS CYBERNETICS ARE AWESOME
    • Space elevators a common sight on most inhabited planets: ships dock at stations at the top of them and the crew can then descend onto the planet below

OKAY THAT'S ENOUGH SETTING GUFF LET'S GET INTO THE PLOT
  • Three years ago a vast structure, the size of a small planet, was caught in the gravitational pull of one of Alpha Centauri's stars and began to orbit it: it came to be named Xibalba
    • Initially believed to be a rogue planet, it soon became apparent that it was artificial: this thing was built rather than made
      • Think "H.R. Giger designed a planet" and you'd be on the right track
    • This structure is also the first definitive proof of other life existing within the universe
    • The first explorers of this bizarre new arrival reported all manner of strange sights and incredible
    • technology far beyond anything mankind is still capable of
    • They also reported all manner of dangers and disturbing threats within the planet-sized structure as well
  • Arguments (and outright conflict in some cases) between planet-based factions and their spacefaring rivals have broken out since Xibalba's appearance
    • Planet faction/s want the structure quarantined and carefully studied, believing it to be a threat
    • Spacefaring factions see it as an opportunity to be exploited/exploited (and quite frankly it's none of those fucking grounders' business anyway)
  • Amidst all the confusion and fighting, a few daring/fucking mental explorers and pioneers have made their way to Xibalba and begun to explore
    • Their motivations vary: some out for profit, others are there for the science, and there are religious orders who see the structure as a sign of their faith in the mix too
