❥ Chapter One :: Part Two

It was all happening so fast. Before the introductions could take place, the floor began to capsize. In random places, it fell downwards into a valley. In others, the ground climbed up to the ceiling. It was almost like riding a balloon float at a carnival, except it was more confusing than fun. In fact, in the rise and fall of the floors, there was an increasing trepidation. The initial blank states of mind were beginning to understand something painful. They were dead. Gone from the world, without a trace. If it wasn't enough to make them feel queasy, it was the fact that they were no longer in control. In these hovering floors and glowing doors, there was nothing familiar. And there would not be, not for a long time.

The journey that was so explicitly stated in their letters was beginning to unfold in a frenzy of emotions. As the floors moved on their own, the doors from the horizon came rushing towards them, as if about to collide into them. Despite their appearance, however, the doors swerved around or through each individual, as if they were made of air and not the material shown. A few doors stopped rushing, coming to an abrupt stop close to some. As the doors opened, a vacuum of air and wind sucked anyone close to a door into it's bright lights. The scene was now a blur of lights and gusting winds and moving floors. It was pure chaos. And yet in this chaos, they were somehow trying to find their wits.

Three doors opened. An ancient one, with dusty brown edges and a sandy build, A more modern steel door, reinforced with several locks, and a door that was somewhat in between in age, with a large sweeping arch and a dying wreath of flowers pinned to the front. The rest of the doors rushed past, disappeared into the distance.

The first to react was the little girl, Sleeper. She felt herself being dragged, being pulled into the ancient door. Aurelia, closest to the child, grabbed the girl's arm in an attempt to protect her. The floor beneath them crumbled into a hole and the two of them hung onto each other, Aurelia trying desperately to grab at the floor. Why were the doors trying to force them apart?!

Nights was an arm's length from the modern door, but as she sucked in, Blur reached for her arm, pulling her away from the door. The floor beneath them rose, allowing them a few moments before it would fall again, throwing them into the vacuum reach of the door once more. Nights wanted to ask what was going on, but Blur didn't seem like he was in the mood for talking. He looked around at the others. It was hard enough to see, with all the lights and gusting winds, but he squinted through the conditions. Three doors. And there were seven of them, from what he saw. They would be split up unevenly, to say the least. "These are doors to different points in time.." He explained. His voice traveled to the wind to the others.

Understanding the crucial situation they were in, Doc struggled past the moving floors to Chloe, who was in a moment of shock, trying to catch her own balance. "Everyone, stick with someone! Don't get separated!" He extended his hand to Chloe. She was the first person he spoke to so, naturally, he felt inclined to stick with her. Chloe didn't have a moment to spare. The third door, with the dying flowers spun around, pulling them into it's abyss. Behind them, a stumbling Cynthia was trying to understand Aurelia's shouting.

A shouting Aurelia was holding Sleeper with one arm protectively and reaching for the blonde girl, who was far off from her, but too close to the third door. "Give me your hand!" She was shouting, but her voice wasn't carrying over. It was too late. The floor beneath Cynthia tilted backwards, leading her to the door. But Cynthia was a dancer. A good one at that. Expertly, she weaved her way through the moving floors, reaching a screaming Aurelia. She held out a hand to help the girl out of the hole in which she and child were trapped. As Aurelia thanked her, the three of them took a look around worriedly.

Closest to them was Arciel, who was jumping from rising block to falling floor to avoid the ancient door, which seemed to be chasing after him.

"It looks like it's following him," Cynthia pointed out.

Aurelia nodded, "Maybe it wants him to go that time period?"

The two of them looked at each other in realization. That was it! The doors were choosing their own travelers. Aurelia smiled at Cynthia.

"Let's meet again, soon, okay?"

"Yeah... Sure."

She closed her eyes, letting go of Sleeper and extended her arms sideways before running towards the metal door. She collided with some invisible force, which sent her flying backwards into the ancient door. She disappeared into the abyss. Sleeper followed after her, also accepted by the door.
Cynthia found herself being pulled towards the metal door. As well as Nights, who, seeing the lure of the abyss, jumped into the same modern door, leaving a stunned Blur on the top of a hill-like extension. With a shrug, he jumped in after her.

Left alone, Arciel watched the spinning lights and moving floors. It seemed two of the doors were finally satisfied, the metal door and the door with the wreath and arch closed themselves, lost their glow and faded into dust. He stood there as the landscape returned to it's hazy mist and cold air. The floor settled down to a single surface once more.

But still, the ancient door stood open ahead of him, as if waiting. He sighed and walked over.

GROUP A
Third Door with the dying flower wreath
Cycle, Doc

They found themselves atop a hill, overlooking a village. The houses were burning and the fire lit the night ablaze. There was a path down the hill to the village and another path going the other way, into a dark prarie. The two of them were wearing different clothing, giving them a sense of the time period. Cycle was dress in a handmaiden's dress, the bits of silk woven into the dress would predict that she was of a nobler class. Doc was dressed in a knights uniform, bearing the sigil of a lion's mane and a light blue coat of arms whose details were difficult to see in the dim lights.

GROUP B
Second door, the metal fortress
Nights, Cyn, Blur

Blur found himself driving a small pod of a car, racing along a rather futuristic highway. It was as if his body already knew how to drive. From the holograms on his HUD, it said they were headed to the capital, Xenon City. In the passenger seat was Nights, looking out the window of the car. People in the other cars were rather, strange looking. They were wearing all the same outfits, with only bits of color changes and had peculiar hair colors: blue, green, pink. When she turned to look at the driver, it was Blur. He was wearing a black outfit, something that she might have imagined in the likes of a mecha anime. It was a fitted black shirt with red track lines and cargo pants. His hair was a different color, his eyes, too. But somehow, she knew it was Blur.

In the backseat, the sound of murmuring alerted Nights to look back. The image of the blonde girl from earlier flashed in her mind. Cyn sat up from her half-sleeping position to look around. When she saw her own reflection in the window, she was surprised.

GROUP C
First door, ancient door
Arciel, Sleeper, Lotus

They woke up together, Aurelia holding Sleeper's hand. When they stood, they looked around at the massive stadium. Aurelia was momentarily confused. She was dressed in a toga-like gown of silk, with gems hanging from her waist and in her neck. She could feel the weight of something in her hair. Reaching up, she realized it was a wreath of twine and flowers strewn into blonde curls. Her skin tone was a bit more sunkissed tan than she was used to, but Sleeper, too, looked different. She was dressed in a smaller gown, but one of white cotton and tied with a brown sash. To their left, Arciel appeared walking. He was dressed in a toga, with a silken purple robe crossed over his shoulder, pinned with a golden brooch. His hair was a light brown now. There was a sword tied to a scabbard at his hip.

Within the stadium seats, people were filing in and warriors were entering the circle, giving them strange looks. Aurelia took Sleeper by the hand. "Let's go take a seat!" She exclaimed anxiously.

After everything that happened when the doors started to move he somehow wasn't all that surprised. But then being tossed into a burning town with a change of clothes and the mission to find a sister piece... well that was something that came way out of left field! At first Doc just looked around as a couple of people scurried past him. They didn't look all that wealthy so he felt it was safe to assume they were no nobles but as he glanced over to Cycle he found that she was indeed dressed in rich attire.

Slowly he reached into the pouch next to his sword and money purse and found a small note. It said royal guard and the rest were so worn out and smudged that he couldn't quite tell what it said. He figured it was safe to assume he was part of the royal guard... unless the royal guard was addressing him for some reason with this letter... he had no idea what was going on but he had to make sure they were getting out of this area before something bad happened...

They would have to figure out their roles, well her role anyways, later. He had a feeling he was supposed to be protecting her. Whoever was in control of time, and set them as guardians, certainly had a weird scene of positions. A Doctor, who had never raised a weapon in his life but exceptionally good with blades was granted to be a knight instead of a doctor or what ever they were called back then. Then, as if the in experience warrior wasn't enough he was given someone to protect. It made perfect sense! Lets have the medic protect someone! You know, if the medic goes down who is going to save the medics life? No one! Their were so many problems with this that it wasn't even funny anymore...

"My lady." He said trying to make it not seem obvious they were not from this age, "It is much to dangerous here, we much get away for now." He said looking around to make sure no one was around. When he saw the coast was clear he leaned over and whispered, "I wouldn't recommend using your pocket watch, it doesn't go with the age... also we don't know if those warrior things that are trying to mess with us can sense when we use our powers." He grabbed her hand and started to run, following the others, "Excuse me, miss." He said addressing a younger girl, "Please lead my Lady to safety, I will run behind her and make sure she is protected. Of course that means you will be protected as well." He said as a point of bargain with the girl. He knew she would take the bait... unless he wasn't supposed to be protecting Cycle that is...

Ancient Greece, ????, Lotus
mind_links: none yet

A family entered the main balcony of the stadium, a couple dressed in sparkling blue silk and a teenage son, in robes of purple and green. They sat down, attended to by servants. More warriors entered the stadium's dome through the entrance on their left. More people filed into the seats.

Lotus pulled Sleeper along with her towards the edge of the dome, where the entryway through which the warriors were coming in to line up before the aristocrats.

Sleeper was reprimanding her and it was a little funny. "We are in old Greece," she was saying, " Ladies are not allowed in the stadium. So in other words: are you insane?! What do you want to do, die? And bring a little kid with you?"

Lotus looked at her sheepishly. It seemed the child didn't fully understand her situation.

"What's wrong with your mind?"

She smiled, bending down to talk to Sleeper at eye level. "Listen to me, kid. I didn't drag you along, whatever happened with the doors was out of my control. I know that you're right so at this moment, we have to get out of here."

"Miss Euphemia!" A male voice called out in surprise. Lotus rose, turning to see a warrior, black-haired and tan, with the brightest green eyes she had ever seen, "What are you doing here?"

Before Lotus could respond, he knelt, taking and kissing the top of her hand and then doing the same to sleeper. "Little Ambroisa, did you come to see your brother, Ambrose?" The warrior's head turned and looked towards another warrior, one who was wearing the same emblem as the family on the balcony. Lotus' eyes widened. Sleeper was the little sister of a warrior, who was the son of the people who owned this estate and were running the stadium.

"We should return to the balcony." Lotus turned to Sleeper. Before her brother, Ambrose could spot the child, Lotus ushered her deeper into the entryway and towards the staircases leading to the balcony. Behind them, the warrior called out to her.

"Perhaps your presence will give me luck, Euphemia!"

Lotus stopped for a moment, taking in the hopeful expression on his face and the eagerness of his tone. And it occurred to her. They hadn't been placed into history as travelers, but rather, as people. Their lives were entwined into the era. She would have to live as Euphemia. She would have to be Euphemia.

She smiled, walking back to him for a moment, taking a flower from her hair and placing it on his shoulder. "I will pray to Athena, so she will bless you with victory."

And then she left him, hurrying up to the balcony, where they were received by worried servants. Lotus found herself craning to see if the other time traveler would return to the balcony as well. From they way he was dressed, he, too, was an aristocrat and not a warrior. And it seemed the rich people here were all family.

It can't be Athens. It must be a smaller city, perhaps an estate.

The woman on the balcony reached for Sleeper, taking the girl into her arms, "Oh my sweet Ambrosia, where did your reckless cousin take you today? I missed you terribly." She kissed Sleeper's forehead and let the girl sit in her lap, with a view of the entire dome.

The woman's husband addressed Lotus, "Euphemia, Alphios will be in the balcony soon, do not fret."

"Ah, yes, of course." Lotus answered politely. She wasn't sure who he was referring to, but she was guessing it might be Arciel, the other time traveler. He was the only nobly dressed man down in the dome.

"You must miss your brother, having traveled from Athens to see him."

Lotus turned her eyes from Arciel to the man, nodding eagerly. "Yes, life is not the same without him."

They talked for many minutes before the stadium roared to life. Through their bits of conversation, she was able to conclude many things. For one, Sleeper was Ambroisa, daughter of the Theodoron family, a rich couple that owned much of the estate in this area. They had three children. The handsome warrior Ambrose Lotus spotted in the dome, the little Ambroisa, and the teenage Alaceos, who was brooding on the other end of the balcony near his father. He met eyes with Lotus once nad then looked away. Father Theodoron told her they were about five days travel from Athens, where she was from. She, Euphemia was recently married and her husband was a philosopher in Athens. Her brother, Alphios was undergoing training to become a warrior. The Theodorons had invited her for three weeks time as her husband was away.

Three weeks time before I return to Athens. That means three weeks time for us to find the artifact or else we'll be separated. Lotus was worried for many things, but relieved that the time traveling child had a good home. The Theodorons would take care of her while Lotus and Arciel could search for the artifacts.

Soon, Alphios was being led to the balcony by servants. When he entered, the woman greeted him cheerfully. "Alphios, my dear brother!" Euphemia moved to hug him quickly before anyone else could speak to him. In the embrace, she whispered softly, "Let's slip away to talk once the fighting starts." And then let go of him so that he could greet the Theodorons properly.

In the dome, the warriors lined up to salute their sponsors as a man announced the participants of the first battle. The common people in the stands roared with excitement.

"W-What?" The farmer girl looked at Doc. "You'll protect me?" She shivered. "Why would you pro-" An arrow went through her stomach and she screamed as if somehow it would dull the pain. Several horsemen rode from the trees, three dressed in blue and five in varying colors. A few of the other knights rode down a few peasants and the rest screamed.

One of the knights in blue approached Doc and Cycle. "Ah Klargus! We had thought you ran off to camp. It is good you are here." He smiled riding up next to Doc and patted him on the shoulder. "We must be off to Norwich, the Queen wants us to pull back the army and let Count Cromwell take Rutland and Oakham."

Another one of the blue knights rode up. "We should get moving Clais. I think the people of Norfolk have learned about the punishment for revolt."

Clais spoke up. "I see, George and Regas, rally the troops, we meet at the camp to the East. Inform the men of a feast at Norwich, for the men and nobles." They both nodded and rode off. Clais turned to Doc. "Klargus, take Lady Erika back to the camp. I have to make sure the army is in order. Keep her safe." Clais smiled at Cycle and rode off after donning a thick helmet.

A burning building a collapsed not far away. A village was struck down by a horsemen and a woman cried looking for her baby. Times were tough.

Cycle had just came to her senses after surviving the hectic place with the doors. She was in the middle of her own thoughts before being sucked into a door, an ancient one at that, and arriving where she is now. The atmosphere changed almost immediately. It went from a frantic dash to a calm, dark tone, which was confirmed by the burning village down the hill.

She herself was wearing a grand silk dress. It was very soft and grandiose, but it also made her stand out. It probably meant that she was someone of importance in the time period. The fire raged on, however, taking the lives of men, women, and children. It was disgusting to see who could do this sort of thing.

On her right was the man he was just talking to earlier, Doc. He must've been dragged in the door along with her. He was wearing a knight's suit of plate armor with a faded blue paint to it. He looked very regal, and along with her clothes can deduce that this is during the middle age time period. He approached her, talking in a voice that was fitting of the era. He mentioned warriors again. She assumed it was the Calegians he was talking about and the artifacts. She simply nodded her head in acknowledgement.

As he tried to make a bargain with the small farm girl, she was shot, letting out a chilling scream. She cringed as the girl slowly drop to her knees and fell dead. The owner of the arrow soon rode up in the same uniform as Doc. They look to be picturesque knights, but they were doing terrifying deeds.

Apparently, Doc was known as Klargus and herself was known as Erika. They were told by the knight to head back to camp. "So, Doc? What should we do? Do we even know where this camp is?" She desperately wanted to get out of the area. The burning village as a backdrop and the villagers beyond saving weren't pleasant.

He could hear the soft sound of an arrow flying threw air as the girl stuttered something. He was to distracted by the sound to hear what the little girl was saying. He turned to the source of the arrow just as it struck the girl in the stomach, which happens to be a non-fatal wound. He watched as a horse man road up to them, everything else was drowned out.

So, supposedly they were called Klargus and Erika and they were on the side of these barbarous knights. So said the one on the horse. "We shall be at the feast, unfortunately Lady Erika has something she must do before we leave." he announced as, whom he assumed the commanding officer was, road off to where ever he must head.

He looked around to see if the coast was clear before picking up the girl and bringing her into the house to his left pushing 'Lady Erika' in with him. The building must have been the black smiths considering the build was made of stone, which also made it one of the few that wouldn't burn. The poor girl was as pale as a ghost and unconscious. The pain must have gotten to her.

"Get me some water, a bucket worth. Their should be something in this house." he told Cycle as he rushed off to grab a mettle bar sitting next to a smelter which he used to heat up the bar. "Quickly my lady, come here with the water and grab that rag." he said moving back to the girl.

As he got to her he snapped part of the arrow sticking out of her although at the same time being careful not to move the tip, which would result in hurting her more. He heard a moan come from the girl and hoped she wasn't waking up.

As Cycle came over he grabbed the cloth, wet it, and put it on the girls forehead. He was making sure to treat for any possible side affect. "Keep the cloth cold and wet." he mumbled as he took both hands and wrapped the around the arrow. "Please hold her still..." he said as he yanked the arrow out and quickly placed the hot rod half an inch into the wound. Slowly he pulled out an doused the skin in a short bit of water. "She will live." he said throwing the rod to the side and looking out the window.

"Still clear. We must leave." he thought for a second then ran out of the building without his partner. He quickly dressed a dead body with his armor hen torched it. After he threw his pouch to the side, not too far from the but if body before grabbing a two cloaks and running inside.

"We must be going." he said grabbing a new sword from the blacksmiths weapons rack, luckily there was one finished sword left. He strapped it to his belt loop and put on the cloak. After tossing the other one to Cycle he lifted the girl and tried to keep her hidden with his cloak.

"We can either head back to 'base' or go on the run. I don't think I want to be part of... that." he gestured towards a crying woman next to a burning house with some knight harassing her. The fact that he save the girl and burned the corpse with his ID and armor didn't really give them a choice anyways... but he still felt obligated to ask.

Whatever he had been expecting when he walked through the door, nothing could have prepared him for this. The room of doors had gone away, cool mist replaced with hot sun on a warm morning. His hair and clothes too, had been changed so completely that he hardly recognized himself. He was no longer himself. It was the strangest thing, making him feel sick and liberated all at once. He was someone entirely new. It was all he could do to prevent himself from laughing, smothering it down to a small, nervous giggle. He glanced towards the other two travellers with him, the woman who had tried to speak with him in the room of doors and the small child, drawn into something like one of her dreams.

His attention being drawn out from his thoughts, Arciel took his first look around at where they had actually ended up. People were pouring into what looked like a large stadium. It was something so recognizable, even his lacking education could place himself in Greece, or maybe somewhere in Rome. He took in a deep breath, feeling somewhat overwhelmed by the sudden culture change. A few people passing by gave him odd looks, spotting the glimmer of wildness in the whites of his eyes as it finally hit him that nothing was ever going to be the same again.

"Master Alphios?" The voice was quiet, polite, and close enough to break through his stupor, Arciel turning to see if he had accidentally stumbled upon a conversation he'd need to remove himself from. There was a plainly dressed woman facing towards him, her eyes darting down to the ground when she had gotten his attention. "The family is waiting. Would you care to join them?"

It took a moment for Arciel to realize that she was talking to him. He had a family here? So, he hadn't been given a fitting appearance and dropped somewhere, he was part of the timeline, living the life of a real person. His excitement faded a bit. Being an impartial observer would have been preferable. Still he was in another time, and he'd make the most of it. He gave the woman a nod, and she turned to lead him up to the balcony.

He was greeted by Lotus, caught up in her embrace as she named him her brother. Understanding, he returned the gesture, holding her close for a short moment. Hearing her request, he gave a short nod, before turning away as the rest of the family came to greet him.

"Alphios! Will you be entered in any matches today?" The man's voice was filled with mirth, a playful smile on his lips as his attention flitted between the stadium and his nephew. It was quiet obvious that the man had no doubt that 'Alphios' would not be in a real match any time soon. Thrown for a bit of loop, Arciel let out a small laugh, nervous and tittering.

"Ah, no. Not today, sir."

"Alphios, I told you, there's no need to be so formal with family. Come sit, the games should be starting soon." The man patted the seat beside him, the younger man sitting down. "Ambrose shall give us a good show today, I think."

The crowd below the balcony erupted in a deafening howl, cheering as fighters began to make their first appearances. Their armour glinted in the sun, polished to perfection for their performance. A heavy hand came down on Arciel's shoulder, turning his head to give a questioning look to the man. He was pointing down into the stadium. "See there! The blue banner! He shall be participating soon." Arciel didn't bother to try and spot Ambrose, all the fighters faceless and blurred from his high vantage point.

A clash of metal on metal signalled the start of the fighting, a group of men preforming a dance of swords and shields. All eyes in the audience were glued to the fighting, a chorus of cheers ringing out as a fighter's sword cut into his opponent's arm. The battle was in full swing, and there would be no better time to slip away. Turning away from the stadium, he caught Lotus' eye, quietly rising from his seat and darting out of the balcony.

He turned to face the other time traveller, a crooked smile spreading over his lips. "How amazing is this? We're in Greece!" He spun on the spot, taking in the sights again for a moment. "...I never thought I'd make it out of my city, and now I'm all the way across the sea." His excitement subsided slightly, though his smile still stayed. "Not just across the sea, but in a whole other time."

Cycle followed behind Doc quickly, as he carried the small girl that was thought to be killed by the knight. Doc lead them to a building that was on the outskirts of the village and in little danger of catching fire. Laying the girl down, he began to request items while he tended to the girl. Cycle looked around the blacksmith's shoppe for the water. Spying a bucket and a trough, she dipped the bucket in the trough, drawing water from it, and returned to Doc with the bucket and rag.

"Here you go," She said, placing the bucket of water next to Doc. "Is she going to be alright?" He stayed silent for the most part other than the urgent command, which she obeyed. He began by taking out the arrow and cauterizing the wound, all of which seemed very painful and made her cringe. Not a moment too soon, he said that she would be fine.

Though before she even had time to think through her choices, Doc seemed to have mad a choice for her. Grabbing the thrown cloak, she wrapped it around herself. "If we go on the run, where would we go. We don't know where we are and who we can trust. We'll be on our own... I don't know what to do."

Lotus watched as Arciel eagerly spun in a circle and she laughed. Her situation was the same. Greece was something... not a place she wanted to see, per say, but nonetheless a place outside of her own limits. She couldn't help, but laugh at his eagerness, his enthusiasm. It was infectious, his joy.

"You're right!" She responded, eyes twinkling, "I was so worried about where to begin and who we are and what we're supposed to be doing, that I missed the fact that we're actually here." She put a hand to her stomach and leaned against the wall, smiling.

"I have to say I'm glad though, that you're here," She glanced towards the direction from where they came, "And that the little girl has a good home that will watch over her." She smiled sheepishly, "And I've got a husband in Athens." It was an awkward thought. She was hardly of mind in her own time to be married.

Lotus was thankful to the powers of the compass, leaving them in close proximity as siblings. She could speak to him whenever she liked, worries or thoughts or ideas. It would make the entire ordeal easier, along with the search.

The sounds of the stadium roared to life, announcing the two contenders for the first battle. Someone with the name of Alphrove Dihoaes. "That's oddly familiar name, Alphrove, Dihoaes..." Lotus blinked. Alphrove. And here was Alphios, her brother. She didn't know much about Greek names, but she wondered if they ought to know every of these warriors personally. And the warrior whom she'd blessed, she'd hardly asked for his name.

She returned her gaze to the smiling Arciel, pausing before asking her question, almost delicately, "Where was your city?"

"Well, we can trust this girl. After all we saved her life and the deal was I would save her and she would bring us somewhere safe. Back in this time one was bound by their word... I believe this is that time period anyways." He stood and pushed open the door to take another look before swiftly walking out with the girl still in his arms. Luckily she was a very small girl so carrying her would be easy. "We should head for that mountain. Probably the safest place to be for now."

As they walked along the burning street, keeping out of sight from those who were attacking this city. As they were hiding for maybe the forth or fifth time he noticed Cycle had something on the back of her cloak. He was too informed on ancient things but it could have looked Egyptian maybe? It looked like an Egyptian form of a bird thing... that was a mystery for later. "Ok, clear, lets go." Once again Doc lifted the girl and started to quickly walk down the path as he constantly looked back to make sure Cycle was behind him.

Soon they were home free, out of the village and into a forest which bordered the village and the mountain. "Hurry." He whispered as he started to walk even quicker, maybe into a bit of a jog until they were far enough into the forest where they couldn't see the village. Slowly he came to a stop and sat the girl down, leaning her against a tree before sitting next to her. "Lets take a rest." He said whipping some sweat from his forehead. Between the intense heat of the fire, the nervous feeling of dodging potential killers, carrying the girl all this way and it being humid to boot wasn't really helping him at all.

After a few seconds of silence he looked over at Cycle, "Are you ok? Nothing hurt or anything right?" Doc figured since they were the only once there, with exception of the passed out girl who wouldn't wake up for a couple more hours, they could just talk normally instead of trying to fit the time.

Cycle nodded in agreement. Doc began to carry the small child through the burning streets and find a way out of the village, with herself following close behind. The cloaks seemed to trail behind them, but effectively concealing Doc's face and her own regal robes. It probably would have been smart to torch her clothes too, but it would have left her nothing but a cloak. Besides, it was too late now. They dodged in and out sight, ducking and hiding behind cover eventually getting out of there. They made great time and seemed to have avoided most of the lingering knights. The pair seems to have made it out of the burning husk of a village and safely into the forest for them to rest.

While they lay in the shadows she thought about the scorched village. How many innocent lives have been lost because of, what she presumed was, a petty leader's military campaign. Though war was not pretty, the whole village could have been spared easily. It sparked a hatred for the thug who masquerades as a noble knight. She silently reflected on those thoughts as well as the current predicament they were in.

"No, I'm fine. But why did things have to be this way. Why were we sent here, and to the site of a massacre no less," She ranted. She knew that he wouldn't have the answers, but she needed to say it out loud. She felt lonely and lost, despite having him around to help. She felt even more helpless than she was before. She took a deep breath and spoke up again. "I'm sorry." She regained her composure and tried to think things through one step at a time. They had been sent through time, and they each got an artifact. They'd just escaped a burning village and saved a girl. What were they here for? She thought back to the letter. Each artifact had a sister piece that they were to find. It seemed logical that one of the pieces could be in this time.

"I think we're here for the pieces of Aetas or something. I think we're supposed to find clues, but I don't know where to start. Do you have any ideas?"
