Under the light of the moon they embraced for the first time. Two souls intertwined by a cosmic force, together one more. In the eye of Liguria's mind, the Demon overlooked Difference's curses, his warnings, and laughed at them. Sent them scurrying back into the cursed gloom from which her ancestor resided. She found herself possessing a devil-may-care attitude in the presence of the Sky Pack alpha now. The Demon breathed, feeling soft fur and burying herself in it.

((Fade to black?? XD))

Pestilence chuckled, returning the fake fondness that its companions shared.
"Begin from the center, then spread outwards. I like it."
Though they would take the mountains as they went, striking at the heart wasted no time. Pestilence had always liked that about War; they wasted no time. It jumped, landing lightly on the mountain below, and darkness immediately spilled to stay under its feet. The jolt knocked flesh off of its legs, briefly showing bone before it reformed again.

War flanked Pestilence with a grim silence, jumping onto the mountain ledge below. Above, birds mid-flight began to tear at each other with their talons, swooping and diving manically.

Pestilance looked out as the plague spread. Plants wilted as they trod next to them, turning a sick green-yellow and dying.
"I believe there's a couple of packs up here in these mountains," he commented offhandedly.

Famine followed its companions, every movement visible beneath its skin as bones rose and fell. It was perhaps the quietest of the three - it didn't have to do much to incite famine. All it did was take slowly... Pestilence made the prey sick and the surviving predators starved. Then Famine took the water from the pools and when the sickness faded it took the spoiled prey and no one could eat. That's when War took over.
"We should pay them a visit," Famine said, drooling. Hunger gnawed at its maggot-filled belly. "I wonder how many will survive the sickness." One of Pestilence's beetles landed on the end of its nose, and Famine went cross-eyed looking at it. It smelled putrid. Famine grinned.

"However many do, they will surely be beaten down by what comes after." War showed many teeth, a beastly grin on their face. Underneath the smile was a hollow mask, enacting its role with no consciousness or awareness.

Selkis left Liguria's den and stepped out into what was now a fully-fledged darkness. She padded down the Alpha Rock with confidence and bared her teeth at every Demon who dared look her in the eye.
Toothfish drooled in the shadows. It was so black in this part of the Forest that though his thick fur was white, he was almost invisible. All that could be seen of him were his glowing red eyes.
The Sky Alpha reached the edge of the Demon Pack's territory, relishing in its far smaller size. She had masterminded that. She had been the one to stretch her pack's grounds and establish peace with their enemies, securing safety for her wolves; the high she was riding made her grin. Things were good. Perhaps she wasn't such a disappointing leader - perhaps she was a great one.
The enormous white wolf saw her pass. The Sky she-wolf who was here so often - but this time she was alone. Toothfish stood up and followed her.
Selkis paused. A rustle of leaves behind her made her fur prickle though the night was mild.
Toothfish saw his chance, felt hunger in his stomach and drool on his lips - he lunged.

Zyrias felt it before he heard it.
He felt the coming attack. Instinctually, he bolted towards the sense, though what he would do he didn't know. He wasn"t strong.
What he saw was the Sky alpha, struggling with the newcomer from the north. It appeared his hunger had gotten the better of him, and the two were scrapping- but he was rapidly overpowering her.
In a panic, Zyrias Snapped.
His power rolled out of him in a wave, hitting the two wolves fighting and crushing their emotions, wiping them away altogether, leaving nothing in its wake. He stood there, panicked and confused, while this pressure continued to roll across the two wolves.

Selkis was nimble and trained well - far better than this clumsy brute. He lunged for her and swiped, drawing blood across her side, but she darted away before he could secure a grip and buried her teeth in his shoulder. Then he bore down on her and she struggled but escaped, and things were happening faster and faster and -
And then nothing. Her attacker had stopped and appeared confused from where she had him pinned beneath her. Some kind of pressure seemed to roll over the two of them, but she couldn't feel it. She stepped away from the white Demon, and looked around.

Zyrias watched, bringing his panic under control.
Curious.
Carefully, he felt around, and selected a couple of emotions. He took Toothfish's confusion and enhanced it, along with enhancing his fear toward Selkis, hoping it'd drive him away. As for Selkis...he didn't want to mess with the Alpha.

Toothfish felt anxiousness roll over him suddenly as he stared up at the Sky Alpha. What the hell was he doing? He scrambled up and disappeared into the trees like a frightened rabbit, his fur stained with blood.
Selkis caught her breath and noticed she was not alone. She stiffened, but this wolf seemed composed and focused, almost looking beyond her. She could still feel that pulsing pressure around her. It came to her suddenly that he was doing something; why else would the Demon have abandoned his attack so suddenly? The new wolf - still Demon - was using some sort of magic. She supposed, recalling Osiris' words about her immunity to such powers, that that was the rolling pressure she felt.

Zyrias stepped out, looking confused. "Alpha, are you alright?" That wasn't the reason he was puzzled. "You...weren't affected by my abilities. Perhaps you're particularly special, more so than the others.." He frowned for a moment, lost in thought, before shaking his head. "I apologise for the demon's behaviour. Not sure what got into him..."
Pestilence watched, mouth twisted in sick glee as his insects went to work. Wolves screamed below as they descended; the Winter Pack was swift to succumb to the disease. He turned to Famine and War.
"I've done my part," he stated simply. "Your turn."

"It's all right," Selkis reassured the seemingly sane and pleasant Demon. "My ancestor blessed me with the gift of immunity to others' powers, in return for not having any of my own. At first I resented it." She chuckled, her green eyes watching the wolf opposite closely. "But I'm thankful for it now. It forces you to learn how to use your brain when you can't use magic."

Zyrias bowed his head. "I'm glad you are okay, Alpha. I attempted to...well, I suppose my power is to manipulate emotions. I didn't realise before, but I panicked when I saw you being attacked and it just...happened. I'm glad you are alright. Please," he gestured. "Allow me to escort you to your pack. To make sure you remain safe."

"I heard commotion," Liguria's sleek form appeared at the doorway of her den, concern on her face. She assessed the she wolf's shaken expression with surprise, turning to Zyrias sharply.
"Just what has happened here?"

Zyrias stuttered to explain. On the one hand, he didn't want to out Toothfish for fear of what the larger wolf would do if found out. On the other, he didn't want to take the blame for damage caused to Selkis. In the moment he found himself frozen, stuttering "I-I-It w-was-" but in the terrifying presence of a very angry Liguria all words left him.

"One of your Demons attacked me," Selkis said, her tone a little clipped. She paused, glancing at the frightened wolf. She wanted her attacker to be brought to heel - but he was so large, muscled and vicious. Perhaps also, she thought quickly, it would do to have Zyrias indebted to her if she spared him the terror of being hunted by the white wolf too. "It was too dark to make out what they looked like. They ran off." She gave Zyrias a pointed look, brow quirking slightly, before moving on. "I could have handled it myself. I'm a better warrior than I might look." She added this somewhat defensively.

"Certainly." Liguria agreed, turning to the nervous Zyrias with one eyebrow raised. Had he come to the Sky Pack Alpha's aid, or had he come to stand with his tail between his legs?
"One of mine, hm?" The Demon faced Selkis, the mask of leadership slipping away. "My sincerest apologies on behalf of my tribe. I would have thought the captains had trained my men better." It was strange being formal to the she wolf, after that gentle summer night during which Selkis had approached her-
Liguria bowed her head.
"I will make sure this Demon is apprehended." She vowed, directing her order to Zyrias.
"Bring me Melete and Phaezro."

Selkis nodded and turned away. There was a little blood on her fur, but it belonged mostly to her attacker. She stepped hastily over the borderline of the Demon Pack and into the thin stretch of unowned woodland between the two packs.

The Alpha reached her pack and stepped over the borders. It was late into the night and the sky seemed pregnant with the coming dawn; she walked with her head held high, still riding the rush of meeting Liguria and (almost) beating her attacker in combat. She'd have that Demon's head one day, she thought with a gnarled half-smirk.
"You visited the Demon Alpha alone."
Selkis flinched though the voice was comforting and familiar.
"Christ, Delphi," she laughed, turning to the brown-furred figure on her little rock beneath the tree. "You almost gave me a heart attack."

"You visited Liguria," said Delphi. Her bright brown eyes watched her dearest friend closely. She seemed serious. "Sorry for startling you. You've startled Raelicka and some of the others, though, with your absence."
"I'm Alpha and I can go where I please, when I please," Selkis said defensively. She didn't ask why Delphi was awake at this peculiar time; she knew well enough by now the Oracle stayed up all night and went to sleep at dawn, waking usually at midday.
"You saw the Demon Alpha. You... you woke something bad with your actions."
Selkis paused, looking puzzled. "What do you mean?"
"It was inevitable," Delphi said. "I saw it in the stars before it happened... but you had left the grounds too soon for me to warn you. Your visit to Liguria - it kickstarted the prophecy, I believe. It woke something up. I saw it."
