Grandium: Underground Ruins: Walkway
Estelle, Marcus, Trixie, Cole, Tobi, Selan, Syed, Aria, Xandra, Lute – Grant

Over and over the Pride assaulted Grant as best they could, with bursts of laser fire from Dylan and Xandra, sonicboom shockwaves from Lute, bulletfire from Trixie and Tobi, knife throws from Aria, and electrical attacks from Syed, all supercharged by Selan's strength and magic boosting singing. There was no way all of this couldn't be having an effect on Grant, it simply had to. Sure, he might have been able to regenerate and reform his body no matter how bad the injury was, but still these injuries were incredible. He had to have been feeling pain from each strike. The constant regeneration and reformation of his body had to have been taxing on his own magical stamina...! Surely?

The Pride couldn't be certain, at least not yet. If they were to relent in their barrage of attacks there was no way of knowing what might happen to them afterwards. Through Grant's goading they had been given an opportunity to attack, and through that they would give it everything they had. By the end of this, the Pride had vowed that Grant would not be laughing anymore.

With uncanny precision, one of Aria's knives flew straight through the air and was true to its mark, piercing in-between one of the holes in Grant's mask and blinding him. To the surprise of everyone around them, Grant actually cried out in pain, and blood spurt free into a trickle from his new wound. The Masked Man recoiled in pain, staggering backwards and clutching onto his face. Had they actually been able to hurt him…?

"Estelle, think your fire's hot enough to melt sand?" Asked Aria to Estelle, as surprised as anyone else was that her attack had worked. Estelle grinned, the flames surrounding her Magitech Blade burning ever fiercer.

"Let's find out, shall we?" Replied Estelle. She shot out into a run, whilst her allies closest to Grant, Tobi and Lute, moved backwards and out of harms way. Covering Estelle's charge, Syed summoned his magic to imbue the shard from his pocket with as much electrical force as he could. It shot out faster then any bullet imaginable, streaking through the air and colliding into Grant's chest. At first there was only a small hole which passed through the Sand Mage's body, until the shockwave caught up a second later. Then, a terrific hole blasted through the man's body, blasting the sand that comprised his body, and a great deal of that which filled the basin around them, in all directions.

Perhaps if they could damage him enough, and prevent him using the sand to regenerate himself, they could win? There was no way of knowing, and even then it'd be an incredible longshot, but it was an idea at least…

At this point, Estelle had reached Grant. Swinging her sword overhead into a downwards cleave, she aimed to cut Grant directly down his mask and along his chest. But Estelle's strike never succeeded, as the Masked Man literally disappeared before her. His entire body sank down into the ground below, his body transforming into sand and melding with the rest that filled the voluminous cavern. His white, bloodied mask sank slowly afterwards.

The room became engulfed in silence.

398OZzy.png

"Is that… is that it?" Asked Tobi, blinking with confusion. His head turned left and right, searching for Grant and bracing himself for a surprise attack from any possible angle. It would be too good to be true to imagine that this was it and that they had won. And yet…

"It's not!" Replied Cole grimly, dashing his friends' hope before it ever truly had a chance to grow. "I can sense the ground beneath us moving… he's…!"

But before Cole could finish, the room reacted. Suddenly the floor of sand filling the cavern began to bulge and swarm, moving chaotically like a sea in the midst of a cataclysmic storm, with waves of sand pulsating and collecting at one end of the room. Such a shift propelled the Pride to lose their balance and stumble, so strong was the sweeping current. All of the room's sand was moving, coagulating and reforming at one end into a gigantic torso of sand, with mammoth arms and head, its mouth stretching open an bulging a bestial roar.

Everything had just gone from bad to worse.

On the giant's shoulder was a recovered Grant, looking down upon the Pride, a devious smile stretched behind his mask.

Grandium -> Underground -> SAND PIT

Was it working? It looked like it was working! With the combined efforts of the group, Grant melted into the sand pit, vanishing from their site. Dylan lowered his gun, wondering if it was that simple, if they had managed to do the impossible.

But of course they haven't. Dylan bit back a scream as he was lifted up by a wave of sand. He curled up into himself, covering his face, knowing that he didn't want to drown in the sand that surged around him.

When he finally opened his eyes and saw the creature Grant had made, Dylan felt his stomach drop out. What was that? He stumbled back, reaching for Marcus, only to discover that they refuge he had built the wind mage was gone.

"No, no, no," Dylan muttered, casting out his magic, seeking the familiar feel of his constructs. There - it was right there!

In the middle of the sand giant.

"He has Marcus!" Dylan roared, turning his gun and futilely shooting towards Grant. "Get down here you fucker!

Grandium: Underground Ruins: What's your name, man?

Bloood? Blood. How had she drawn blood when all other attacks had no effect on him at all?

Her frantic thoughts were cut short as she fell, her footing having been swept away as sand gathered at the center of the room. Another wave of sand buried her and she struggled to sit up under the weight, coughing and spluttering in an attempt to clear her airways. There was sand in her eyes too and she struggled to brush the worst of it away.

"Gods dammit all I hate sand-"

She blinked at the blurry figure of the sand giant, barely able to make out the white mask peeking through the dark hood. He was really starting to piss her off, and now he had Marcus too? More knives were aimed for that mask with more strength than she expected- Selan's song was doing quite a bit more than expected. She could almost feel his smugness radiating out through the mask, and if she could smash it before the sand giant smashed her than she would be pretty gosh darn satisfied with herself.

Cavern Basin

Syed buckled over in the moment of relative calm, willing himself to continue. Even without Cole's affinity to earth he knew that couldn't be it - but in his case it was more just having seen this man disperse and reform himself and being naturally paranoid enough to not consider anything done until Grant was on the floor.

...Like, not made of sand on the floor.

And then the sand moved. Syed's look of absolute horror was interrupted by him getting swept off his feet by the current, grasping through the thinning sand for the floor with one hand, the other covering his eyes. Thankfully he wasn't swept far before it was over.

He had no idea how to get Marcus out. That much sand would surely act as a shock-absorber. Would he suffocate in there? He was sure Dylan made something before, but in all honesty he didn't really have the time to see what. All that left was that old saying - if you cut off the head, the body dies. He swung his arms forward, swiftly gesturing and signing as he did so, not yet noticing the trickle of blood from his nose. More metal rose from the floor - the same pieces he had wielded before, before flinging one spinning towards Grant - he just had to hope Aria's aim was true.

He held the second piece back. After all, this sand golem was an unknown quantity.

Moira groaned as she lay on the floor once more. She didn't know how much more she could take, in all honesty. She really didn't. Her head felt full of cotton wool and razors, foggy with blood loss yet sharp with rage.

She wasn't going to lie here.

She wasn't going to let that bitch go.

The sight of Don was an odd one - while less directly infuriating than Lucien, it stirred something else. A part of her mind registered that Don was no longer standing there, but most of it was focused on one aspect. There was a baby here. There was a baby. A crying baby, a jarring noise she had difficulty ignoring. Like an itch she couldn't scratch. On top of the falling scaffolding-!

Moira roared like a bear, and swung blindly towards Annabelle from across the room - and in doing so towards her own companions. The horizontal slash would fly harmlessly straight over Don's head, but everyone else would have to get out of the way fast. And with that she ducked behind more moving noisy machinery, disappearing from sight once more.[/hr]

We Can't Sand Much More Of This

Unbound by any of humanity's moral codes, Delilah whistled at the sight of Grant leaking blood. Lute, ever quick on the uptake, already had the barest bones of a plan. The spirit noted with surprise the new spark fluttering throughout their shared consciousness. Up until then her thoughts were what drove their coordinated actions, but this… It pleased her that her companion was quick to rebound from such a harrowing emotional dilemma, but the how and why worried her. She also knew that now wasn't the time for psychoanalysis, and thus Delilah adjusted to give way for the new command.

The two of them weren't surprised when the man escaped death once again, but that did not mean they were pleased. It's not as if they were given a moment to react, as the floor rose up in a colossal tidal wave of warm golden pinpricks. It would have been beautiful, if the person who summoned it wasn't out for their blood and global destruction.

After a harsh bout of tumbling, Lute finally rolled to a rest. He stayed prone for a couple more seconds before getting up, gingerly picking off the sand around his mouth. Beside him, Aria searched herself for more knives before chucking them at Grant, quickly followed by an attack from Syed. Dylan, and most probably Estelle too, was panicking over Marcus. Was Selan still singing, or were they just affected by a residue of her magic? Cole or Tobi might be beside the songstress. In any case, the virtuoso didn't speak. The entire metamorphosis too had been unusually quiet; the walls of sand shifting and expanding caused no sound, even as the gigantic whorls coalesced to form the hulk. Even now, the Pride suffered from a faint pressure in their ears. The rise and fall of one's chest failed to register even the slightest hiss of breath. Had their senses finally, after a fight so prolonged and arduous, failed them?

No, it did not. The world itself, or at least the perception thereof, convulsed when Lute screamed. What sounded as a mere howl to his comrades appeared as a continuous whirling spire of pure, vicious energy, hurling towards Grant with unbelievable speed. The projectiles the others threw just seconds ago coasted along, swept into the cannonade in a blur.

Grandium: Underground Ruins: Metalwork Room
Kara, Don, Amy, Moira, Lucien, Lisette, Kapi, Nani, Thunderhawk, Marise, Quentin - Annabelle

"Lisetteeeee!!!" Screamed Quentin in pure horror at the same time his hands instinctively shot out to catch the airborne Kapi safely in his arms. His eyes simply couldn't believe the scene that was unfolding before him. Lisette had done so well to stop her fall and keep her capybara partner safe, but it wasn't enough to stop the entire walkway from collapsing with her caught in the center. And for Quentin, despite all his hopes and wishes otherwise, there was simply nothing he could do in order to prevent it. All he could was watch on, slack jawed as the tower of metal came to an ear piercing, shrieking fall.

'No! No it can't end like this!!'

It wasn't just Lisette, but the others too. Against that small pink haired child there was simply no respite from any of it, no safety no matter where they turned. Annabelle had been practically running rings around them, hurting Moira, Thunderhawk and Nani quite severely and on top of all of that… transforming both Lucien and Don's bodies into a horrible pastiche of what they should have been. And as for Quentin himself, there was nothing he could to prevent any of it. He was utterly powerless.

'Damnit, no! This can't be how it ends… it just can't…!!'

But then the smoke started to clear from where the pile of metal rubble had landed, revealing everything before the water mage, and he could do nothing but just stare in pure amazement. There, in the middle of it all, just in front of it all was Lisette, safe and alive and wrapped in the arms of a violet hued savior.

Kara!!

eqpkjKh.png

"Easy, Lisette, easy. I've got you." Spoke Kara, with a weary smile. Lisette's eyes opened slowly, as if caught in a daze, as equally surprised as Quentin was to see herself still alive. Eyes bulging wide, her head and pigtails spun from side to side to try and discover what had, wincing with fright at how close the metal beams and rods that had once comprised the section of catwalk she had been standing on had been to skewering her. If it hadn't been for Kara's intervention and narrow slowing down of the falling debris, she would have surely been a goner.

"I'm sorry I kept you all waiting so long, but... let's not lose hope just yet." Kara continued, as much to herself as to Lisette and Quentin too. Setting Lisette down carefully on her feet, she rose up to stand again, all physical sign of exhaustion gone without a trace. "We've still got a job to do, so let's finish this."

0tBIKdB.png

"Such ridiculous insults are the refuge of the weak and scared," With a roll of her eyes, Annabelle scoffed towards Nani's remarks whilst sweeping her Magitech Scythe out in front of her. "Instead of running off your mouth, try fighting. Or instead, die-"

It was at that moment before she could finish that Captain tried to aid his master by dropping a small piece of metal he had found down on top of Annabelle, aiming for her head. With a sigh Annabelle lifted up her free hand and grabbed the falling metal without even needing to look. With a swift, deft turn, Annabelle flung the metal back out and clipped Captain on his wing. With a pained sqwark and raining down of several of his beautiful feathers, the parrot began to plummet down from out of the sky, whilst Nani cried out in horror and anger for what the Pride's deadly adversary had done to her beloved friend, companion and firstmate.

No matter what Nani's following actions might have been however, she didn't get the opportunity to make do on it- not when a horrific shockwave courtesy of Moira swept out across the entire room. The fearsome horizontal slash generated by the Berserker's Greatsword severed everything in half that it sliced right through, including wall and ancient machinery. Anyone caught standing in its path would soon become a lot, lot shorter.

pQWHep9.png

"Down!" A chorus of voices echoed all across the Pride, as simultaneously the Pride - Nani, Amy, Thunderhawk and Lucien - were all pulled down to the floor. Around them were multiple clones of Marise, generated just in the nick of time to save them all from a very close shave, as well as rescue the defenseless baby Don whom had still been wailing in front of Annabelle's feet, carrying him to safety.

"Would you just quit already?" Annabelle's eyes narrowed towards Moira. With a single, simple downwards vertical swing of her Magitech Scythe, Annabelle cut a gap inbetween Moira's own shockwave, gifting her safe passage whilst Moira's devastating shockwave continued on either side. Shaking her head from side to side, Annabelle turned her back on the remaining Pride and instead started to walk towards Moira. She didn't regard the older woman as much of a threat, not after their earlier battle during the tournament and every other one of their skirmishes here just now. However she was annoying, and she had just about had enough of it. "If you're so eager to die, then so be it. Die."

Disappearing in a blur, Annabelle charged forwards, ready to finish off Moira once and for all.

Grandium: Underground Ruins: Cavern Basin
Estelle, Marcus, Trixie, Cole, Tobi, Selan, Syed, Aria, Xandra, Lute – Grant

'No… no not this. Not again…!' Staggering backwards, her entire body trembling with tears forming at her eyes, Trixie looked up in complete horror at the golem of sand that towered so high above them. It was just never enough, was it? No matter what they tried to do to him it just wasn't enough! What did they have to do to finally make him stop?!

"Least the Boss isn't here… if she was then…" Trixie gulped, reliving the memory of the Pride's adventure deep within the Ruins of Museo. Their battle against the giant skeleton had been something she tried to forget about it ever since.

It would have been easy to give into fear and desperation, and if she was being honest then Trixie was close to it. But seeing her friends fight on so hard gave her the determination and will to keep on trying too. Even if her attacks ultimately did little to help stop this thing, she still had to fight! They were the Pride! It's what they did!

Lifting up her uzis again, Trixie once more pressed forward the attack alongside Dylan's laserfire and Aria's knife throws.

That wasn't all however, not when it was reinforced by Syed and Lute's attacks. The Electromage wasted no time in magnetically lifting up another large chunk of the previous metal walkway and flinging it forwards through the air, aimed towards the towering sand monster's face and the shoulder which the Masked Man Grant rode upon.

And it was all of that together which was then bolstered by Lute's next attack, following the siphoning of all the sound that had been within the room. Even Selan's own strength imbuing singing fell mute to her comrades, instead absorbed and amplified into a single, devastating attack from the virtuoso. Coupled altogether, the result was a whirling tornado of pure, white magic that streaked straight ahead towards the giant sand golem's chest. Everything that had been in its path, from Aria's knives to Trixie's bullets and Dylan and Xandra's laser fire, and the chunk of metal walkway Syed had been throwing, were all propelled with blinding speed directly towards where Grant and his sand monster stood.

The result was phenomenal.

The collisions that peppered across the sand monster's body was tantamount to a series of explosions. It quivered and recoiled, with wild flurries of sand bursting out in every possible direction. To everyone watching it seemed to appear certain that such a devastating strike would have destroyed it and yet… it held. In mid collapse the giant behemoth of sand's fall stopped, its giant body once more rising and regenerating from the near endless supply of sand that littered the entire room. Lute's attack had been so close to destroying it… but Grant's will of control was better.

IgZCmTK.png

Atop the giant's shoulder, Grant once more simply stared down at the Pride below. Despite his expression being rendered invisible to everyone watching, there was little doubt knowing what he was feeling.

qXvL9BR.png

Faltering after his herculean effort, Lute stumbled forwards and toppled over, caught only by Tobi. Without pause, Tobi started to carry the virtuoso backwards towards where Selan waited, hoping to move his friend out of the way of danger before Grant could retaliate.

But such retaliation came far too quickly.

A giant fist of sand swept down to pound down atop Tobi and Lute. The two men looked up in terror, so huge was the fist and so swift did it attack that there was no possible way they could dodge it…!

"Oh no you don't!!" Another giant fist met the sand monster's pummelling it into disintegration. Standing amidst the Pride was now another giant, terrifying monster, albeit one not quite as huge as Grant's beast of sand was. It was, however, much more solid then Grant's beast of fine sand.

398OZzy.png

Stepping forwards, Cole's body, now transformed into his giant Golem's form moved to meet Grant's monster in mortal combat.

Meanwhile, on the ground, behind Grant's giant monster…

QcMGXMi.png

"Marcus!" Racing across the sand, Estelle hurried as quickly as she could towards the slumbering mage rested inside the safe cocoon Dylan had conjured for him. Whilst Lute's attack had not been enough to entirely destroy Grant's summoning, it did enough to help blast Marcus out from its center!

Metalwork Room:

Blurry vision, check! Rattling cough, double check! Muffled noises, hell yes! Being old sucked. Being old sucked very, very badly. Everything was a mishmash of blurry colors and double vision and while he could make out shapes and colors, it was horribly hard to see more than a few feet away. He was wrinkled bag of flesh and he wondered if this was what Gil felt like twenty-four hours of every day.

Lucien could barely yell when the catwalk came crumbling down. Oh Gods, were Lisette and Kapi... no, he didn't want to think about it.

"Thunderhawk," the summoner wheezed, his lungs rattling with each shaky breath. "Lisette, Kapi... are they?"

Unbeknownst to Lucien, the archer was safe in Kara's arms. It was hard to tell when his vision was failing, and the lack of clarity only amplified the storm in his chest. Gods, just what on earth was happening, and why was there a baby crying? Disoriented and upset, Lucien reached for his cards with his free hand but struggled to hold onto them with shaky fingers. "Thunderhawk ... what's going on?"

JY6Es1P.png

After everything, the laser fire, the bullets, and the sonic boom, Grant started to rebuild himself. They had given it everything they had and he had brushed their efforts off, just like that. Xan clenched her fists until her knuckled turned white, not wanting to believe the bitter reality before them. How would they save everyone if they couldn't even put a dent in this smug bastard?

And then a giant fist slammed down onto Tobi and Lute, and if not for Cole, they would have surely been crushed.

Xan gritted her teeth as Cole moved to meet Grant and as their leader screamed. Gods save their souls. She charged up her canon for another volley of lasers. They were growing weaker with each shot, but at this point, even grazing him would be wonderful.

Grandium -> Underground -> SAND PIT

"Aislin!" Dylan cried, only to have the sound ripped straight from his lips and into Lute's attack. The raw power it must have taken, not to mention the sheer amount of skill needed, was something incredible. Dylan watched in awe, only for a gut-wrenching fear to sink it.

It still hadn't been enough.

But! But! Dylan could feel it in the very marrow of his bones - Marcus had been freed from the center of the giant. And so Dylan ran, circling around the construct while Cole unleashed his golem.

Dylan trusted Cole, trusted him enough to keep them safe, that he allowed himself to focus on the wind mage. "He's okay!" Dylan called to Estelle, sliding through the sand to his side. "I've got him! We need you to fight!"

[BCOLOR=transparent]'Trust me, I was scared before I got here.' Of course, Nani wouldn't mention that out loud. And she figured Annabelle wouldn't listen to her ever so educational reasons about insulting the enemy. Just when she thought things couldn't get any worse, she watched in horror as her feathered companion was knocked out of the sky. "Captain!" Annabelle was ignored as Nani raced towards her fallen companion. That was quickly halted when Moira lashed out again, causing Nani to strain her already gouged leg to leap down to take cover behind a pile of debris. If she hadn't covered her head, or actually laid flat, there was the chance she still would have gotten hit! But there was no time for complaints, instead, she peeked from her cover to see what had managed to pull her down even faster. [/BCOLOR]

[BCOLOR=transparent]Once she knew that it wasn't some other form of danger, Nani nodded and lifted herself up again. When she was sure the chaos was over, she hobled to where she had seen Captain fall. The reaper was resilient however. Once more, the girl targeted Moira, and once more Nani felt helpless. It was pretty apparent the most they could do was keep Annabelle's attention, barely slowing her down at that. [/BCOLOR]

[BCOLOR=transparent]She dug through debris, scooping Captain up in one arm and turning back to keep her eyes on the fight. She ducked down, practically crawling, in order to regroup with Thunderhawk and Lucien. "How is he?" She asked, of course in regards to Lucien.[/BCOLOR]

[BCOLOR=transparent]"Still alive." [/BCOLOR]

[BCOLOR=transparent]Well, that was all they could really hope for at this point. Nani just nodded, setting Captain on Lucien's lap. One of Marise's clones, or the real one -she didn't know- was also there, holding baby Don. Hopefully the group of disabled didn't grow in numbers.[/BCOLOR]

Grandium: Underground Ruins: Sand Pit
Estelle, Marcus, Trixie, Cole, Tobi, Selan, Syed, Aria, Xandra, Lute - Grant

Lute probably hadn't intended for such an effect, but Selan couldn't have anticipated exactly how strange a sensation it would be to feel her magic being drawn from her body outside of her own control and directed elsewhere. She hadn't thought her magic could ever be used as an attack, and to see it combined with the rest of her friends' efforts gave her pause.

And yet it still was not enough to defeat Grant. What more could they do? How much more would they have to give?

"Cole..." Selan murmured, her plea too quiet to reach the Golem that had stomped ahead towards the sand giant. The earth warrior never assumed his more bestial form without good cause, she knew that -- but it didn't stop her from fearing for his safety, and more importantly, his humanity.

Softly at first, she began to sing a song with a different aura, meant to soothe Cole from losing too much control over the Golem.

Lisette flinched, holding her bleeding and throbbing shoulder. It hurt like heck, but there was no doubt she could keep pushing through the pain. She was pretty sure she'd take that over getting shishkabob'd over a bunch of metal beams any day. "R-Right! We've gotta stop her, so we can help Don and Lucien!" she said, making a fist.

She ran after Kara and Quentin, charging an arrow at the same time. She was gonna feel really sorry about hurting her friends!

Aria gaped at the effects of Lute's magic. The howl still rang in her ears as she flailed, trying to regain her balance after being physically pushed back by just standing next to him as the attack was unleashed. They had all come so far- but not far enough.

The giant start to regenerate, the hole in its abdomen closing as more sand was swept from under their feet. It felt like standing in the ocean while the water was being pulled back before the waves came crashing in, only instead of waves they got a giant monster instead. She saw Tobi starting to move the exhausted Lute away- if anyone deserved a break it would be him- but cried out in horror as a giant hand made of sand started to crash down only to be stopped by Cole's golem form.

She rushed to go help Tobi drag Lute out of range of the giants' fight. "That was amazing, Lulu," She whispered words of encouragement even as Selan began another song behind them. "And Tobi, if we get out of this one I'm definitely getting my knives enchanted so they come back to me. I've only got one left."

Moira shuffled as best as she could, using her sword as a crutch. She wasn't one for stealth, she never was. And in any other situation she would forgo it entirely. But here... she needed to get the jump on this girl. She needed to take her by surprise and hit her hard. She needed to stop this girl, she needed to spill her blood, she didn't care how dirty she would have to play to do it.

Her back against one of the ruined pieces of machinery, the powerhammer still somehow functioning despite all the damage, it's rhythmic pounding in time with every other heartbeat. Her eyes wildly flicked to one side as she noted the lack of fighting noises...

She brought up her greatsword just in time, the clash of blade against blade deafening. The look on Moira's face would be terrifying to most, icy cold eyes wide with fury. Moira pushed and pushed, well used to how absurdly strong this girl was at this point... before suddenly dropping all pressure in the hopes of throwing Annabelle off balance. She let go with one hand as she did so, drawing it into a fist and thrusting it towards the girl's jaw. Annabelle stepped to one side effortlessly, twirling her scythe, but Moira wasn't going to let up quite yet. She clashed her greatsword into the scythe once more, knocking it to one side, before driving her head forwards into a headbutt.

What a shame Annabelle was faster.

Nani came into view before Captain was promptly placed into his lap. Unfocused eyes blinked twice as the summoner glanced at the injured Parot. Captain didn't look too bad, and usually it would have filled Lucien with relief, but right now his friends were still locked in combat with the pink-haired reaper and he was stuck on the sidelines and still unaware about the whereabouts and conditions of the others... not to mention he was starting to worry about those they'd left with Grant as well.

"Thunderhawk, Nani," he rattled as he ran his bony fingers through Captain's feathers and held the bird close. "What's happening... what can I do to help?" He might have been a hundred years old, but he wasn't dead yet. Determination shone in his fogged up eyes, he reckoned he could give the naughty whippersnapper a slap with his tuna fish... if he could see her.

Hope Has Deserted Us?

This must be how it felt to watch a collapsed house of cards restack itself from the ground up. Lute crumpled in dismay when his attack failed to destroy Grant, but Tobi caught him before he could hit the floor. The Golem Cole shielded them with its (his?) berth, giving the ragged group a second to gather their thoughts. It was then when the virtuoso's senses emerged from its temporary foggy state, dragging his attention down to the blistering pain in his throat. The pain consumed everything. Lute made an odd whimpering noise as his free hand scratched at his neck, like he was trying to smother an invisible inferno. He started coughing.

Under different circumstances, Delilah would've been thrilled to have Pebbles jump to her defense like an angry rock creature straight out of a romance novel, but she just went through the equivalent of a spiritual purging. It felt like someone flushed her down a metaphysical toilet and the experience felt as pleasant as it sounded. Not to mention she had the feeling Noh Boy would sandify Cole. Or worse! "Give a girl's heart a break…" Delilah croaked out as Aria led them away from the colossi. "Just once, I want to experience something normal. Boring normal."

Lute wiped his mouth and winced. It felt like he had dislodged his vocal chords, but an experimental mumble assured him that his voice was still there. Somehow. He opened his mouth to speak, but nothing came out except a dry pop. The virtuoso tapped Tobi and Aria, then began to gesture. They eventually got the idea that he was trying to convey, "I don't know what else to do."

Kara, Don, Amy, Moira, Lucien, Lisette, Kapi, Nani, Thunderhawk, Marise, Quentin - Annabelle

If it hadn't had been for Moira's scathing attacks against her, Annabelle would have no doubt pressed her attack on and tore the rest of the Pride into pieces. As it was, they had been given a respite, albeit one very brief one when the pink pig tailed reaper turned her sights away and towards finishing off Moira for good. It gave the others a brief chance to catch their breath, however all of them knew it wouldn't be long lasting. Not so long as Annabelle kept standing and fighting.

lvvjktb.png

"Save your energy," Replied Thunderhawk to the gasping Lucien, who was facing in the completely opposite direction when he tried to speak to him and Nani. "In your condition any excessive exertion could mean the end. Heck, it could mean the end for any of us, and we're doing a lot better age wise, at least."

Before a response could be given, toddler Don, held within a soothing Marise's arms, unleashed a never ending ear piercing wail that threatened to deafen them all. Grumbling beneath a scowl, Thunderhawk hobbled on towards where Annabelle and Moira fought a short distance away. "Y'know, I'd rather take on death then be listening to that."

Behind them was Amy, silently grumbling to herself as well albeit for differing reasons. Don's wailing was irritating, to be sure, but the the source of her ire rested entirely upon Annabelle herself. It was because of her and her companions that all of them were in this mess to begin with. Closing her eyes, Amy began to channel her magic as best she could into buffing Moira's defenses and healing the woman's wounds. As the team's paramount fighter, she needed everything she could get.

And so it was given.

Annabelle was certainly faster than the injured Moira, that much was true. However such speed helped little when you felt your entire body's movements become forced into slowing down against your very will. The woman's eyes bulged out wide in stark surprise. This didn't make sense. What was going-

And that was when Moira's fierce headbutt collided. Annabelle was sent flying backwards across the ground, crashing bodily into a large piece of metal machinery behind her. With a pained grunt, Annabelle slowly started to rise back up to her feet… at the same time Moira's Greatsword swung down and ripped a fierce gash out of the metal machinery. Annabelle had been lucky enough to avoid it, but her movements were still pronouncedly slower, her entire body sluggish. But how? She hadn't received any wounds damaging enough to be this debilitating…!

And that was when a sudden bout of realisation hit her. Whipping her head around, Annabelle spied at the far end of the room the source of her ire. The Clockwork Town Guildleader Kara Calbanera was back up on her feet again, manipulating her time magic to the Pride's advantage. Such magic didn't force Annabelle into a complete stop, however it did make her own considerable speed become slowed down enough to the point where Moira could finally reach her…!

Twirling her Magitech Scythe about in hand, Annabelle surged forwards towards Moira, the tip of her burning blade aimed at Moira's face. No longer could she afford to not destroy the Pride immediately.

Grandium: Underground Ruins: Sand Pit
Estelle, Marcus, Trixie, Cole, Tobi, Selan, Syed, Aria, Xandra, Lute - Grant

"Thank the Gods…!" Said Estelle with a heavy sigh of relief. Marcus was okay, against all obvious appearances. Estelle hated the thought of leaving his side once again, but Dylan was right - she needed to lend whatever aid she could in defeating the bastard who had hurt her friends and killed Largo. Cole had assumed his both awe inspiring and terrible Golem persona, however there was no way of knowing whether or not that alone would be enough. The Pride had so far hit their Masked foe with everything they had and he still kept shrugging it off. But it wouldn't deter them. No matter what, they'd keep fighting on!

"Okay Dylan, I trust you! By the way, do you think you could give me a lift?" Replied Estelle, turning and beginning to run towards the back of the giant sand monster without waiting for a reply. She wasn't sure what exactly she could do, however Grant's attentions were consumed entirely upon Cole's Golem form before it, leaving his rear entirely open. If she could get high enough to reach its shoulder and attack Grant, then maybe…

Her earlier attacks had failed miserably, but now… the black Magisphere she had kept on her person ever since she had found it in the Ruins of Museo; the curious relic which had been instrumental in her defeating Lucifer and General Morgan now pulsed warmly in her hands. Hopefully it had recharged by now…?

"My, you are a curious bunch. To believe you had something like this hidden amongst you all along…" Grant spoke lowly from his perch. As gigantic as Cole's Golem was, Grant's monster was larger still, and constantly growing all the while. "...however you should know as well as anyone else that such a foul beast is meaningless against me. My mastery of sand is not simply limited to that which you might find within a desert or a beach. I wither and destroy stone and rock, disintegrate it into the very fine molecules of sand itself. What you have just done, boy, is spell your own doom… and given me more ammunition to use!"

"NO!" Roared back the Golem, throwing back Grant's sand monster's fist and swing its own, gigantic boulder for an arm up and through the sandy appendage. It blasted the sand away completely, spraying it throughout the cavern. Without pausing for a second it strode forwards, swinging its other fist into the sand beast's other arm and destroying that. And then another fierce punch into its opponent's chest, followed by another, and then another, and then…

Making use of his Golem alter ego's form might very well have been suicide, but this was something Cole had known from the outset, so hesitant then was he to use it. But at this point there were no other alternatives, and if he was to attack hard and fast enough, before Grant could regenerate himself then… maybe it could work…? That too carried its own risks however, in losing himself to a berserker state and the barbaric Golem spirit that resided within him, bargain or no. If it wasn't for Selan's soothing singing, Cole's consciousness would have already been lost.

"A good effort," Mocked Grant. "But still not enough."

Swinging his arm up into the air, a vortex of sand gathered around his forearm, before he swung the arm down. A scathing blade of sand swept out across the air, cleaving straight through where the Golem's right arm met its shoulder. A second later, the arm itself was severed and tumbled precariously down to the ground below, crashing down almost on top of Tobi, Aria and Lute.

"Ahhhh!" Screamed out Trixie.

[BCOLOR=transparent]Nani winced as Don began to scream. Geez, he had a strong set of lungs. "Look kid, we've all got reasons ta cry right now, but that doesn't mean do it." She didn't directly say that to Don, knowing very well that he was a baby now, but she did say it out loud. Maybe it was just for the sake of saying it. And then added, "Just sit tight and hold Cap for me, wouldja?" The last thing they needed was the now old man Lucien, wandering around when he could barely even see. Nani and Thunderhawk were still peering behind their hiding spots, although with Don's screaming there was little hiding being done. "Oi, she hit her." Nani stood up a little too quickly, grabbing the metal contraption in front of her as support. "She's slowed down!" This was possibly a one time opportunity for them and they couldn't waste any time not doing anything.[/BCOLOR]

[BCOLOR=transparent]She trusted Marise- or one of the clones- to keeping Don, Lucien, and Captain safe so she once more jumped into battle. She couldn't just idly sit by and watch Annabelle attack Moira again. Pain nor injuries was going to stop the one-eyed girl from running (or pained hobbling?) to attack Annabelle. With her now slowed down to a halt, maybe her means of 'keeping Annabelle distracted' would be a little more helpful.[/BCOLOR]

Sand Pit

Not long after Aria spoke, she would hear a gentle clatter at her feet - the knives she had thrown at Grant, thought lost in the sand. They gently sparked one last time, before coming to rest entirely. Who knew how sharp they still were, but Syed had done his best to retrieve them.

Syed himself stood a small distance away, preparing himself for whatever happened next. They had all worked so hard, proven themselves so strong as a team. Lute in particular took him by surprise, bringing out an attack he had never seen... heard before. It made the attack on Cole all the more shocking.

"COLE!" he screamed, his eyes wide. "Stay with us, Cole!" he called out. "Please, stay with us." He... he didn't know how Cole's transformations worked. Whether the loss of his arm was just the rock, or whether it would affect him otherwise in some way. Either way, he couldn't imagine it would do his constant wrestling for control any favours. Thank all the gods for Selan, even the ones he didn't worship. He prayed she could hold on too. He trembled a little, despite how soothing Selan's song was. He glanced over to the others, at Trixie in particular due to her yell. He had to keep going. Everyone was relying on everyone else to stay strong.

...But who was Syed relying on? He grimaced. "Trixie, you keep doing what you do best!" he called out, gesturing swiftly. He got a sniffle in response, but he couldn't hang around. He suppressed a cough, already tasting the iron and not willing to make the situation worse. The others didn't need to know how he was pulling all this energy out of his arse. Instead... he focused. Thought. A couple more sniffles nearby, then the sound of more rapid gunfire soon filled the room courtesy of everyone's favourite Prankster.

"Xan?" He turned urgently to the metalurgist. It was either her or Dylan, but Dylan had Marcus to fret over already... "Do you reckon we'd be able to... pin him?" Nothing would be permanent, but anything was preferable at this point!

Grandium -> Underground -> SAND PIT

"Of course I can!" Dylan said in response to Estelle's question. A lift was no problem at all. With a few quick strokes of his chalk, he summoned a trampoline, placed so that all Estelle had to do was keep running. And there she went, jumping onto the trampoline and launching up high.

Hey, it was magical. There was no reason his construct couldn't be more awesome than a regular one.

His elation was short lived, however, as Grant used that moment to slice through the golem's arm. "COLE!" Dylan screamed. Aislin! Such an injury was devastating. He didn't' know what he could do, having already launched Estelle, so he sent a quick prayer to whatever gods were listening to grant them some grace.

And prepare to draw when opportunity strikes.

No...!! Selan's eyes widened in horror as the Golem's arm fell and nearly crushed her friends. It was a close call for them, but at the same time it had to be excruciatingly painful for Cole as well -- and she realized she was potentially making it worse for him by keeping his mind grounded. But the alternative, was...

The Golem let loose a gutteral scream of pain, and flailed its remaining arm erratically in the air. The ceasing of her singing in tandem with the pain meant that Cole was slipping away fast.

She hated herself to do it, but given their options, she had little choice. They could not risk Cole losing his mental tug-of-war with the Golem now. Taking a deep breath, she resumed her song, calming the Golem just enough to continue its fight against Grant and his sand colossus.

Grandium: Underground Ruins: Metalwork Room
Kara, Moira, Lucien, Lisette, Kapi, Nani, Thunderhawk, Marise, Quentin - Annabelle

While Kara had been waiting for an opportune moment to cast her magic, Lisette climbed up as quickly as she could onto a set of mid-level conveyor belts which encircled the room. Annabelle had fortunately not seen her survive the collapse of the catwalks, which was the closest thing to a strategy Lisette could muster after her brush with certain death.

So she waited on one bent knee and waited to make her way around a corner. She was partially obscured by some of the remaining machinery, but they'd have to do a good job of distracting Annabelle for her to get a hit in from her blind spot. Now that the pink-haired speed demon was slowed down somewhat, she might finally be able to stun her!

Grandium: Underground Ruins: Eyes Ears Mouth n Nose

The gentle clink at her feet and the blue sparks that quickly faded along the blades' edges made her blink just as she was about to answer Lute.

"Thanks, Syed!" She quickly gathered them, stuffing in her pouch a little haphazardly so she could resume dragging Lute towards Selan. The weight at her side made her feel just a little bit more secure until the golem's right arm fell, nearly crushing the three of them and sending sand spraying into the air. "Oh dear Gods."

Feeling relieved that the three of them hadn't been squashed, they quickly arrived by Selan's side. "Lulu, you've already done more than anyone could've asked for." She placed a hand on his shoulder and smiled. "Take a short break, alright? Then come and help us kick his ass. But rest first." After a moment of deliberation she unwinds her scarf, the feathers weighed down by an astounding amount of sand and passes it to Lute. "Hold onto it for me, it's getting a little hard to move in it."

She clutches her newly regained knives, then glanced at Tobi. How much longer could Cole hang on...? "I don't think attacking the giant's going to do anything if the guy just keeps summoning more sand to repair damage. Do you think the mask could be a weak spot?" It's the only place they attacked that had managed to physically draw blood, after all.
