The Kingdom of Astaeron

Herzius eyes flick up as the doors find their way open, the long, slender legs of an arthropod emerging before finally the large spider emerges. He takes note of the spiders name, though, he did not much care for names, and then leaned back in his seat, reclining as he observes the creature, taking note of his features. The rumbling he too enjoyed, it gave him a deeper image of the arthropod, as well as the images of his surroundings without him needing to make a sound, which was beneficial in his case as it gave him a way to distract himself as the Queen did her duty.

Reactions: Red Knight V
V purred, a deep rumbling that matched his size with its force, "My name, Arianna, is V, I am the twenty-second of my brood." He decided that he liked the queen, she asked his name, when others of power would not. He wasn't sure if she actually cared or not, but at least she cared enough to give the appearance that she cared. He could pick up the brief scent of surprise, which was close to fear. His green eyes had already picked out the guards, and any other potential threats, should he have to defend himself. He was quite used to adverse reaction to his appearance, they were just as common as friendly reactions.
Arianna smiled warmly at V as he introduced himself, finding herself absolutely fascinated by the deep purr that came from the great creature. He didn't seem harmful, and it seemed he came here with no ill will, so she maintained her kind smile and gentle demeanour.

"Welcome to Astaeron, V," she said to him softly. "What brings you here?" It always intrigued the young Queen to see the variety of people who came to Astaeron. She had encountered dark creatures like vampires and werewolves, light creatures like fairies and elves, many humans, shapeshifters, and other types of beings...but every now and then, she encountered something incredibly unusual, something unlike anything she had ever seen or heard of before. V was certainly one of these cases.

V chittered, "I am looking for a place to settle." V folded his legs underneath himself, observing them. "I have heard recently that this kingdom, or queendom, is welcoming." Recently in this case is the last few days, since he didn't know of Astaeron before he arrived there. "I do not mean plan on causing any harm to you or your citizens."

Arc had looked up as the spider-like creature had walked in. It interested him. In all of his years, he had never seen anything quite like it. To be able to turn into one of those... It could prove useful in time.

He turned his head up towards the Queen. Speaking, or more like thinking, of things he had never seen before, what sort of being was the Queen? An angel, perhaps? He let these thoughts slip from his mind as he curled up against the Queen, purring softly.

Arianna gave V a firm nod, grinning at the being. She loved when the most frightening of creatures - and though V was not among the most frightening, he was certainly an intimidating sight - turned out to be the kindest and gentlest. For a moment, her blue eyes shifted to look at Herzius, who was patiently as she spoke with V.

"V, you are most certainly welcome here," she told him with a radiant smile. She gently stroked the cat in her lap, smiling down at it before lifting a hand to brush aside a brown curl that had fallen in her face. "If you seek housing, I can help you to find a home, though I am unsure whether many of the houses here will have doorways that can accommodate your size."

"Thank you," V purred, "I do not need a house, just a plot of land. I can make my own lodging." The creature was indeed not the scariest, but to those who were afraid of spiders he was their worst nightmare. "Am I able to open a business? I would not need a separate place."

Arianna nodded, pausing thoughtfully. She gave a flick of one hand and glimmering white sparkles of magic appeared around a book that sat on a small end table near the balcony doorway. It began to float up, flying towards the young Queen much as the chair upon which Herzius sat had earlier. It hovered in front of her, opening, and she began to flip through the pages with her fingers as the book floated before her. Normally she would set the book in her lap, but she felt it best to not squish the adorable ball of fluff that already occupied that space, so instead she used her magic to keep the book floating before her. She smiled after a few long moments of flipping and she gave a nod.

"We do have some empty plots of land," she said softly, having been fearful that they wouldn't. "We have some outside of town, we have one just near the town square, and we have a few around the edges of town - most are against the walls, so you wouldn't have much of a view, but a few are settled where normally houses should be."

V thought about it for a second, it had been a while since he had attempted to build a home. It could get messy if it was in the town, and the establishment he was thinking of making wouldn't be very useful near the town square. "I could do with one outside of town. It'd be perfect for my plans."

Arianna grinned at him and gave a nod. She gave another wave of her hand, allowing the book to update itself, and then it floated back over to the small end table, plunking itself down on top of the smooth wooden surface with a soft thud before the magical sparkles faded away. She looked over at V, her blue eyes shining with warmth.

"Is there anything else I can help you with while you're here?" she asked him gently. She doubted that a giant spider would be interested in a job here in the city - even more, she doubted that he had any need for money. He was likely a hunter, and would catch his own food, and he had mentioned building a house - perhaps that meant weaving a web as most smaller spiders tended to do. He certainly didn't need the clothing that the marketplace could offer him, and with housing, food and garments being the most important necessities in the marketplace, she saw no need for money. Unless, of course, she was mistaken.

V shook his head, "No, just wanted to introduce myself and get some things straightened with the governing body." The large feline spider bowed to her again. He didn't know what to do now, so he just stood there shifting his legs awkwardly. He assumed the Queen would dismiss him now that their business was concluded.

Arianna smiled at him and gave an understanding nod. She appreciated that he had come here - she was certain there would have been trouble if somebody had accidentally stumbled upon such a creature and reported it to the guards, but now that she was aware of his presence, she could ensure that nothing happened. She glanced briefly towards the guard that stood positioned beside the magnificent throne room door.

"Would you like me to have someone escort you to the plot? Or do you think you'll be able to find it on your own with directions?" she asked him gently, not wanting him to get lost but also not wanting to treat him as incompetent.

Herzius rests silently in his seat, no longer as fascinated with the creature, nor his ambitions, though, he certainly seemed suspicious enough in the way he avoided fully explaining anything, even the most simplistic of questions. He silently pondered over this, his eyes seeming to flutter slightly as he watches her and the arachnid converse with one another, or as an old war-mate would say, "Conversate." He internally chuckled at his own reference and relaxed, deciding that it was best for her Queen to judge her own guests than himself, despite his seeming intuition of character, he could often be entirely mistaken of one's personal interests.

Unbeknownst to Herzius, an ancient male, an elf of the deep woods, rather than one of Azaria's Desert Ealfs, -Yes, Ealfs.- was making his approach, towards the center of town. He came with a lump sum of money, filling his pack, as well as his usual variety of three weapons, his scimitar, his dagger, and his mace, of which was held in his tunic, hidden from sight. He approached the gates, whisking away past the guards, removing coin purses from those, despite the eyes of the guards being so near, until his inner tunic became heavy with coinage. He dropped the coins into his pack before approaching the doors, and eventually he leaned in, listening to the Queen give counsel to another voice, unbeknownst to him, it was an arachnid, but that mattered not to him, he could care less of the one of which possessed the voice, he never much cared much for those who were around, though, the one of whom spoke would undeniably startle his interest into awakening.

V flexed his legs, "Maybe a guide. I don't know this area, so directions will probably be hard to follow until I am accustomed." He took the offer as a test, he doubted the Queen would let him wander the city unwatched until she was absolutely sure her citizens would start vanishing. The spider chuckled and spoke, "I won't eat him, I've already had something to eat, so no need to worry about that." He didn't give any indication that he was unaware of the sneaky thief, though he didn't act as though he was aware either.

Arianna laughed slightly, giving him a nod.

"Good, I'm afraid that eating one of my soldiers would certainly undo all the good we've done this morning," she said to him gently. "Though I must ask...does that mean that you eat humans?" She hoped that wasn't the case, as she couldn't allow V to eat her people while staying within her Kingdom. If he did, she wouldn't be able to allow him to stay.

V chittered, shifting his legs uneasily, "I have before." V wasn't going to lie, he was a big ass spider, and big ass spiders eat any living thing. "I'm not just an animal though, I can control myself so I do not eat those that I shouldn't. If you don't want me eating humans, I won't."

Herzius frowned once more at the conversation, his arms finding themselves characteristically crossed over his chest and his brow furrowed. He definitely did not like the way the conversation was headed, much less the fact the spider admitted to what could only be assumed to be a murder, if not more than one. He tapped his leg slowly, longing for a reason to decimate the threat, but knowing that any intelligent creature could pull off being friendly for a limited time, regardless of if they were friendly or not. He clicked his large claws against the breast plate of his chest, resulting in a low, deep tone, resounding from his center.

He contemplated stating something, but decided his words were not needed, the Queen would be able to judge whether or not the Spider was a threat, he hoped.

Arianna was rather disheartened by the large spider's comment about having eaten humans before, but killing was one of the things people here often came to escape. Astaeron was, and always had been, a place of forgiveness, a land in which those who had done wrong could start over and move on from their previous crimes or actions.

"I most certainly do not want you eating humans," Arianna said, a certain stern quality to her voice. "Or any other sentient beings for that fact. The people in this Kingdom are my citizens and are under my protection. I cannot allow you to use them as food. If there's anything else you can eat instead, just let me know - I can make sure that there's more than enough of it available for you, especially if it's something tough to come by." She did want V to be welcome in the Kingdom, but she couldn't allow him to endanger her people. She would do everything she could to work things out.

V waved a leg dismissively, "If it is alive I'd eat it. As long there are stupid animals to feed on there should be no infractions against your decision." He showed some disappointment at her specifying sentient being as off the menu. At least she wasn't one of those vegans who denied consumption of meat in any form or source.

A tall heavy grey man walked through the castle toward the throne room. When he passed the elf he looked at him with disinterest. Elves were a fine race. Fine like warm coffee compared to fresh hot coffee. He strode into the room and stood patiently while the unimpressive giant spider conducted business with the queen. He had out grown being uncomfortable when conducting business with royalty. In a new kingdom it was very likely that you would offend some law, custom or another, you just had to get over it. One cannot be blamed for ignorance when one has just arrived in an unfamiliar place.

Now when you know the customs and laws... that is a different matter entirely.

Arianna nodded slightly at hearing his words. She understood that he was disappointed, but there really was nothing she could do - and she wouldn't particularly want to, either. She knew that there were many people in town who were hunters, going out into the woods and bringing back fresh meat. Many of them sold their food in the market, though she doubted that V would want it already killed. She lifted a hand, smoothing down her thick brown waves of hair and smiling towards him.

"You're more than welcome to go hunting in the forests on either side of town," she told him gently. "I'm sure you can probably work something out with one of the farmers outside of town, too, for something a bit bigger than whatever you'll find in the woods.."

Her gaze then fell on an unfamiliar new man who had entered. She watched briefly as he patiently made his way in and stood calmly to wait for her to finish her business with V. She offered him a friendly smile, her deep blue eyes sparkling before shifting back towards V.

Lance was clad in regular, everyday clothing - trousers and a simple red shirt, with brown leather boots and his black hair tied back in a long ponytail that ran straight down the middle of his back. He wasn't working until that evening, so as he strolled out the front doors of the castle and down towards the gates, he was looking forward to having the day to himself.

He intended to look for some side jobs to do in the town on his days off - he wouldn't tell anyone, but he wanted to purchase his own home in the town, which meant that he would have to spend a lot of time saving his money. The guards in Arianna's castle were paid well enough, especially considering that they were given their own quarters within the castle to live in if they so chose. They had to pay for their own clothing, maintaining their armour and weapons, and food to keep in the kitchens of the guards quarters. It was also troublesome as sometimes, guards - especially new ones - would take food that belonged to others, and Lance often found himself a victim of such trouble.

Isabella walked down a hallway of the castle. She was on the second floor, carrying some freshly washed linens to one of the guest rooms. The second floor of the castle was filled almost entirely with various guest rooms, each one decorated uniquely and almost all of them empty. They were used when Arianna had visitors to the castle, and if Arianna ever had children, the kids would have their choice of rooms whenever they wanted. However, the guest rooms all had to be kept clean and tidy, which included a great deal of dusting and washing.

She curled her fingers around the cold brass knob of the door, opening it and slipping inside. This particular guest room was one of her favourites in appearance - the walls were a soft teal colour, the linens were a vibrant ocean blue, and a large painting of a beautiful beach hung on the wall at the head of the bed. Isabella found the ocean beautifully enticing, and gazing at that painting made her long to visit. Her days off weren't frequent enough, however, to embark on such a trip, and even if she did visit the Southern seas, she wouldn't be able to make the round trip in a day or two.

Still, a dreamy smile came to her lips as she began to make the stripped-down bed. The pillows sat on the floor, where she had moved them so that she could strip down the blankets from the bed. She hummed softly to herself as she tucked the corners of the sheets under the mattress, her hands moving expertly over the bed, demonstrating how skillful and experienced she was in the simple task of making a bed.

Benton strolled through the town, clad in a suit that he deemed casual, though others might see it as rather elegant. He was unsure exactly where he was headed - perhaps to the market, as his little home needed some new furnishings. He gave a nod to himself. Yes, that certainly sounded like a good idea. So he continued along on his way, brushing a loose strand of black hair from his face and walking with an air of confidence, entirely blind to the invisble ghost girl who followed behind him like a lost little puppy.

Lucille's glossy white-blue eyes fluttered open, and she gazed around slowly. A smile came to her ruby lips and she rose to her feet, feeling well-rested and ready to take on the day. Not literally speaking, of course - the daylight would certainly bring her a great deal of pain. She gazed around, ensuring that all the thick curtains were fully-drawn in her beautiful mansion home before leaving the bedroom. As she made her way to the kitchen, her eyes darted around for glimpses of sunlight or curtains that had caught or snagged, but she saw nothing. She reached the kitchen with a smile on her lips, relief flooding through her as she opened up the cooler and pulled out a cold bottle of thick red blood. She smiled to herself, opening it and taking a long sip. She was unsure where Krados was at that moment in time, but she hoped to see him again soon.

Marabella sat in silence on the small bed that belonged to her in the orphanage. It wasn't a large building, and the small handful of children living there were handled by one woman, a kind lady who came across as rather scatterbrained to the young girl. She had even been kind enough to buy young Marabella some new dresses and shoes. The little girl glanced briefly over at the nightstand, where a book that one of the other little girls had loaned her sat. A bookmark protruded from just within the cover, where Marabella had read only a few pages before setting it down. She found herself with no desire for such frivolous activities as reading and playing when there were more important things to worry about, such as her mysterious past and the beautiful locket that dangled around her neck.

Often, Marabella heard the other children talk about 'adoption'. From what they said, it seemed that because none of them had parents, people would come to the orphanage and take a child home with them, taking on the parental role for that child and raising them as if they were their own. While the others always spoke of adoption in excited, eager tones, Marabella dreaded the very idea of it. To have a family treating her as if she was their child? To have them raising her and caring for her instead of trying to find her real parents? It was horrible to even imagine.
