"We're heading north with Katie's people," Dirk replied. "Towards what they call "Baalkpaan Bay." I think it's about the equivalent of Balikpapan from our world, and apparently it's a pretty big port as well. Hopefully once we're there we can figure out some way to find and refine oil for fuel. Maybe we can use some of the empty torpedo mounts or something..." He shrugged a bit as he and the others continued to eat, and Katie started eating as well.
(go ahead and post again I got nothing atm)

Just as they were finishing up their meal someone came running up to the table and spoke briefly with the captain, then Dirk stood and headed back to the bridge with the aide. A few moments later the GQ buzzer began sounding again and XO Jim Ellis' voice could be heard shouting over the comm. "General quarters, all hands man your battle stations! This is not a drill, repeat, is not a drill! Man your battle stations!" All around them the ship's crew jumped into action and rushed to their stations, though Katie was already at hers (right next to Adrian).

Adrian hung his head knowing this day was going to well, he stood Katie standing with him as well he started out of the mess hall and to the armory. When he arrived the Sargent at arms nodded to him knowing what he needed, he passed him his M1 rifle along with the standard 88 rounds worth of En blocs for his belt pouches along with a bandoleer with eight more En blocs. He had a 152 rounds for his rifle and two magazines for his pistol, he started to head up to the deck before he turned around to Katie. "Listen I need you to find Connie and help her with any wounded if this situation goes bad alright, I'll find you when this is all done with." He said with a soft smile as he patted her on top of her head before making his way to deck not knowing if what he was walking into was going to be hell or not.

(If this was a movie I would be signing Adrian's death warrant with that last dialogue and action.)

(lol, true)
Katie nodded in understanding and rushed off to where she had been told to go, but made sure she gave Adrian a good lick on the cheek first.

When Adrian would reach the upper decks he would see the gun crews racing to their positions, his own spot as the gunner of the port side .50 caliber machine gun on the amidships deckhouse still being vacant. Off to one side he'd see Salissa sailing peacefully along, and behind them he'd be able to see Mahan steaming along in Walker's wake. Off their port bow, however, far off but approaching fast, he might be able to see what might look like a small fleet of old Indiamen sailing ships, their hulls painted black and their sails all blood-red. "Come on, Fowler!" one of the machine gun's spotters hollered. "Get your ass up here, there's something coming in for us! Cap' hasn't given orders to fire yet, but something's going down!"

He made his way to his gun, keeping his M1 on his back in the event they were boarded but from the looks of the approaching ships that seemed to be less and less of a concern. He had a box of ammo loaded already and was waiting for the order to fire he just hoped that the crew on the Salissa would stay out of the way if combat ensued.

There was a moment of relative calm as the group of other vessels closed in unafraid, and eventually they'd get close enough that the men on the deck of the old four-stacker could see that they were manned entirely by creatures that looked similar to the lizard-bird-monsters that they'd met on Menjangan island. These ones, however, all carried short curved swords, shields, and crossbows, and looked even more intimidating if that was even possible. The fire control officer eventually passed orders to Adrian's gun to hold their fire, and to use serious trigger discipline if and when they were cleared to fire, only shooting if and when they had clear shots at a group of targets. When the closest of the enemy vessels had closed to within 500 yards, Walker's bow 4"/50 roared once and a huge splash erupted in the water just in front of the lead Indiaman, drenching it's occupants and instilling a bit of momentary panic amongst them. They quickly recovered, however, and if anything they only seemed more fanatic and continued to press their attack, shouting and screaming and banging their blades against their shields as they crowded towards the bows of their ships.
"Now hear this!" the captain's voice shouted over the speakers as Mahan began turning towards the incoming vessels and accelerating to intercept them. "All hands prepare to repel boarders!" This would be the first time since the war of 1812 that a US navy captain would've had to give that order, and Dirk was struck by the strangeness of it even as he said it, and a few of the men from ordinance began passing out rifles and sidearms to everyone on the decks who wasn't already a part of one of the gun crews. At 300 yards, Dirk was about to give the order to fire again when something roughly the size of a medicine ball arced lazily up, high in the air, from amid the gathered lizards. An instant later, a second object rose, and then a third. Everyone in the pilothouse saw them easily with unaided eyes, as did those on the deck. The objects reached apogee, tumbling end over end and trailing wisps of smoke as still more rose up and arced towards Mahan, who was quite a bit closer to the Indiamen at this point. Down they came, closer and closer until two of them plummeted into the sea scarcely a dozen yards off Walker's port beam. On impact with the water, they ruptured and a ball of fire rose skyward as burning fluid of some kind spread flames across the waves. The third was closer, and when the projectile ruptured, burning fuel actually washed up on Walker's deck just below the number three gun (and Adrian's position).
Dirk lowered his binoculars and looked at those standing nearby. When he spoke, his voice sounded vaguely surprised, but his eyes were suffused with fury. "Did they just throw those balls of fire at us?" For just the slightest moment, he reflected upon the consequences and ramifications of his next act, but the decision came without and apparent hesitation, especially when, at about the same time, at least one of the fire bombs broke directly upon Mahan's deck amidships, and the screams of the men caught in the fire could be heard from there for a moment before all four of Mahan's main cannons barked in retaliation. Dirk stepped briskly to Mr. Reynolds, took the headset from him, and spoke directly into the microphone.
"Mr. Garret, this is the captain. Commence firing, light the fuckers up."

(I feel like you're trying to kill Adrian...)

His body acted more from reflex than any conscious decision of his own as he hit the deck as he felt the heat roll over him, he rolled on to his back and looked up and grabbed his rifle and scooted himself back from his 50. cal as it was now on fire. He heard the screams of the burning and started to make his way down from his gun but what he didn't know was that the ammunition belt was heating up hotter and hotter until it started to cook off and one round flew and smacked off the side of a wall that Adrian was right next to but that wasn't the problem what was the problem was the metal that was chipped off and now flying at Adrian. He didn't know what happened one moment he was moving the next he was in pain on the left side of his face and he couldn't see out of his left eye, he slid to his knees and felt around his face there were multiple cuts but nothing to serious besides his eye. He felt around his eye socket and the eye itself and while he felt blood he didn't feel any bone or obvious entrance wound so he assumed his eye was still in the socket and was blinded rather than taken out, he ripped apart a pit of his shirt and made a makeshift eye patch. He started to move again though with a little difficulty with his now limited vision, he found some other gunners who had gotten off better than most though one had a large laceration on his right arm which Adrian took his "eye patch" off and wrapped it around the man's arm. "Get to the med bay and get treated then get back here with weapons if possible it looks like were about to get into some close quarters fighting." He said to them while they tried to get him to go with them he waved them off as he found an area without fire and a direct sight towards the attacking ships, he took out his Garand and set it against the railing to steady himself and waited for targets. He saw the figures on the enemy deck as he took aim lining up a silhouette, he exhaled softly drowning out the screams, cannon fire and cacophony of gun fire as he slowly squeezed the trigger feeling the recoil as the thing he shot at fell away.

He did this seven more times against the first boat making the enemy crew keep down in a crawl lest they have their organs sprayed across deck, he kept this going on each ship as they got closer switching when ever the big guns turned on the wood boats knowing the small wooden ships wouldn't be able to stand up to modern cannons for long, he sat back and rested for a few moments before starting again.

(No, not just yet. lol, I know it'll take a lot more than just this to take that stubborn bastard out.)

Walker's damage control teams managed to get the fires put out very shortly after the .50 cal ammo started cooking off, managing to save the precious gun and much of the ammo. One of the two men that had been with Adrian on the gun, his loader, was already dead, but the other, his spotter, had managed to get clear of the flames before he was overcome. Walker's number one, three, and four guns roared as one in retaliation against the Indiaman that had fired those first three fire bombs at her, and at only a hundred yards it was impossible to miss. Three 4" HE shells impacted the sailing ship's bow at almost the same instant, and all three penetrated before detonating deeper within the ship. Her upper deck, filled with those 'Grik' things, was blown completely off of the ship along with her fore and main masts. She began quickly slipping and, even though it was clearly unnecessary, the main battery fired another salvo for revenge, just as an extra dose of 'fuck you!' Mahan had clearly learned that mixing it up with whatever these things were at close range was a very, very bad idea, evidenced by her making smoke and coming about just as hard and as fast as she could and opening the range, all the while firing back at her tormentors. Walker was doing much the same thing, though she wasn't making smoke and was simply using her speed to keep the Indiamen at a more reasonable range of about 600 yards or more. Now that it was clear how fragile the enemy ships were, the gun crews were exercising serious trigger discipline, often only using one or maybe two shells per target and taking their time to aim their shots well instead of just rushing them off as soon as the breech was closed.

Over on Salissa, a couple strange things were happening. The furries aboard her were readying, and in some cases already firing, what were essentially giant turret-mounted crossbows or ballistas (Or is it ballistae? Idk, lol), which were launching bolts the size of telephone poles out to what looked like over 2000 yards away from the ship with serious accuracy and stopping power, repeatedly severing masts and impaling Indiamen through their decks far enough that the tips of the bolts holed their keels and began sinking them. Still, even between Mahan, Walker, and Salissa's defensive fire, a few of the Indiamen managed to slip through and get at the giant wooden behemoth. They quickly got up and plastered themselves directly alongside her and began throwing and launching grappling lines and boarding ladders up and over her railings high above them, then the warriors on their decks began climbing up. The defending furries were doing their best to keep the Grik off, cutting the lines and the ladders as quickly as they could and sending the lizard creatures tumbling down into the lethal water below where they were quickly dispatched and devoured by the 'Flasher Fish' or 'Flashies' as the vicious little bastards had come to be called. Still, there were just enough of the attackers that some of them managed to get up onto the decks of Katie's Home and her clan mates were now being forced to fight hand-to-hand with the Grik, or rather paw-to-claw.

(Oh and I just got through MGS 5 the Phantom pain so ya imma get an Eye patch for Adrian.)

He saw the lizards get alongside the wooden ship and start to get on board with his right eye but what unable to do anything about it, or maybe he could. He began to run, running past men and ammo being passed around as he passed men they gave him startled looks though he wasn't surprised between the burnt clothing and the blood in his face he must have looked like something out of some feverish nightmare rather then a Marine but that wasn't important now. He found an elevated point that allowed him to get a proper sight of the Salissa's deck, he stilled himself again and repeated the same process as before but this time he was much more cautious as he was firing near friendlies he felt the impact of his rifle as he shot targets who had yet to engage or were just getting on the boat his efforts paid off though as the crew of the Salissa was now mounting a effective defense. He got down and found someone handing out ammo and water of which he took both, he used the water to clean off his face he kept his wounded eye closed though he was still unable to see out of it. He felt the cuts from earlier as well, they were deep enough that they were going to leave scars but were not a major wound in their own right he sighed knowing that he was going to get yelled at by at least two people when he walked into the medbay. He was pushed by the other crewmen and in a word forced to go to the medbay despite his protests, he found his way in and saw men that had been burnt some worse that others, he found the loader that was with him his body wasn't covered yet. It was hard for Adrian he had escaped death so many times yet the men near him died both here and back home it made him wonder if he was just lucky or cursed, he slid down against a wall and sat waiting for some one to come look at him their were chairs but their were others who needed them more than him. He opened his left eye and held his hand in front of it to no avail, it made him laugh a little he remembered his mother told stories of her father who had fought in the civil war who had lost his whole eye and it seemed history was repeating itself though he would be able to keep the eye just not his sight on the left.

As the battle raged outside and Adrian was rather forced into the Medibay, Katie was the first to find him and the first to rush to his side. "Adrian! What did you do!?" she hollered at him, which was about the same response he'd get from Connie as soon as she noticed him.

"I will explain when Connie get's over here as well." Was Adrian's simple response not wanting to explain the injury twice if he was able to avoid it.

Katie had already started cleaning up Adrian's wounds when Connie made her way over and yelped a bit in surprise when she saw how bad he was hurt. "What the hell for you do this time!?" she demanded as she brought him over to one of the tables and started working.

"The ship keeps trying to kill me I swear." He said lightheartedly despite the nature of his wound. "I'm not able to see out of the left eye, it's blinded other than that i'm fine well I do have some small bits of metal in the left side of my face as well but other than that I really just need something to put over the eye and a bandage for the side of my face." He explained a little more worried about the fight going on above then his own injuries.

"Ohh God..." Connie sighed as she started carefully removing the shards of metal from the left side Adrian's face while Katie worked on cleaning up the rest of what she could without getting in the blonde's way. "You know, this might just be me being a total stick-in-the-mud, but constantly having to fix you up is starting to get a bit old."

"The ship is trying to kill me I say it's all a conspiracy!" He said in dramatic fashion. "It could be worse I could of dived off the ship to board the Salissa and help them form their boat." (I was thinking of doing that until I remembered their are those fish.) "So doc what's the diagnosis? I'm blinded right does this mean I get an eye patch to play pirate with?" Adrian said acting not like himself though the adrenaline might of had something to do with that.

Connie chuckled nervously, then sighed and said "Yeah, sorry Adrian... There's not really anything I can do to save your left eye, so you're not gonna be able to regain vision in that eye or any real depth perception. I guess you are gonna need a patch, though." Katie whimpered a bit in despair as she heard that and gave Adrian's cheek a few soft licks after she'd finished getting the blood and everything off of him.

"Well that's that hand i'm dealt, gotta play the hand less I loose the game." Adrian was rather...calm about loosing vision in one eye though he was going to need to regain his depth perception, he had a buddy who was injured at basic loosing his whole eye but was able to get some amount of depth perception again but it took some time and training to get his mind used to only one eye at least Adrian was going to keep the eye just not the vision.

"I guess that's one way of putting it..." Connie said as she and the furry with her kept working. "You feeling okay? I mean, you seem pretty... calm considering you've just lost an eye and all."

"Well i'm not dead, so that's one reason. Though mainly I just feel...numb" he didn't really know how to feel, maybe he just hadn't truly realized that his vision was lost permanently in his left eye but what ever the reason he was grateful for now.

"Don't worry about that," Connie said. "It's just part of your body's reaction to the trauma. Here, this aught to help with the pain when that wears off." She turned away for a moment, then soon returned with a syringe of anesthetic. She carefully stuck that into the left side of Adrian's face near his wrecked eye, slowly depressed the plunger, then removed the needle and continued doing the best job she could of cleaning and dressing the wounds he had. "You might start finding it a bit more challenging to talk for a while, though."
