Señorita? Well, all players had their oddities, Pulse supposed. She took advantage of the hate generated by Tec and Lancelot. The knight's health could drop fast, considering the situation she'd commanded him in, and if they wanted to follow through with Tec's suggestion... It was a damn shame her abilities cost so darn much.

Pulse positioned herself near Lance and activated her Godhand skill; causing two familiar black constructs to envelop her arms. With a broad swipe, she flung two level two forunn to Lancelot's side through the air. Before they'd even vanished completely, Pulse turned around and struck the level 3 ones with great force. However... These seemed to be able to take hits a little harder. Monster levels sure made a big difference. Pulse noted mentally, pulling her arms back preparing herself to face the two monsters coming back for her.

Swift as the goatmen charged her, though, Pulse vastly outranged them. Before they could reach her and Lance's back, her godhands pulled a one-two-punch that plainly annihilated them before they got close enough to attack. This truly was a lot easier when the goatmen their attention was divided.

"Luring, eh?" Barong asked, as he cocked the rifle towards the harenn. He hardly knew if that was his job, but he couldn't help himself from wanting to engage the long-eared troops with their promise of glorious, glorious money.

Barong let his first round fly; instantly killing a level one harenn. "Well that's no good, they'll run away like that." He said, although his intonation wasn't quite as disappointed as his words made him out to be. Barong followed up to take a shot at a level two and three harenn respectively; which both were taken down in a single hit as well!

Barong whistled, content with his new gun. "Join in on the fun, you two." He told Litari and Rissa through party chat. "Before it's all gone!"

Tec growled as he brought his rifle up and fired off a triple shot at the level two Forunn that had hit him. All three rounds flew true and drilled into the goat beast, killing it and leaving only its level one compatriots in the man's way. Deciding it was time to end this fight once and for all, Tec smirked as he finished off the last two enemies with a shot apiece, not allowing them to come anywhere near him.

With his side of the fight finished, the cowboy watched as Pulse's ability was activated and she tore through the enemies. Tec whistled at the sight of the constructs, "Pretty impressive move you've got, Pulse!" Rushing over to Lance and Pulse, he held back from firing again as he knew the two fighters before him could handle the remaining foes easily.

Sir Lancelot
13/45 HP | 10/10 MP | 2/10 XP

Lancelot was awestruck. Those massive, black gauntlets demolished Forunn like a baseball bat hitting a Lego wall. His right side was clear in a moment and the ringleaders behind him were being dealt with. That left him two, and two he could handle even without his left arm. The knight forced himself to his feet, stumbled toward the nearest Forunn, brought his fist up, and collapsed to his knees as he delivered the punch. The goat staggered as a red six shot out over its head, then launched an angry headbutt at Lancelot. The second Forunn was right behind it, horns leading. Both crashed into Lancelot's shield. This time he did scream; he cried long and loud from the pain as he toppled backward.

The first Forunn vanished from the damage it took; the second bounced back and prepped for another charge. Laying on his back, his arm screaming, and tears gathering in his eyes, Lancelot bit down on his lower lip hard enough to make a red zero rise above his head and lashed out with his foot. It caught the Forunn square in the face, dealing the final damage needed to dissolve the mob. The creature shattered. And Sir Lancelot wasn't dead--though his arm sincerely wished he was.

He leaned his head back to look at the woman--and approaching man--who had rescued him. She was white like an angel, but dressed in black like a shinigami. He was... too far away for Lance to see anything clearly through the tears. "Thank... you," he rasped through a dry throat and clenched teeth. "Sorry if... I don't show it... just yet." Lancelot paused to swallow. "I'll need a minute."

"Easy, kid, no need to thank us yet. We still need to get you," Tec explained as he approached Lancelot. The knight looked young, at least ten or so years younger than Tec's real world body. The pain he was feeling most have been unfamiliar to him, not having anything similar enough to compare it to.

Taking a knee by Lance, Tec pulled out a flask of water he kept with him. Unplugging it, he offered the drink to the boy, "Mind telling us your name and why you're out here alone? Most MMO players know to at least have a partner when they go out on their adventures, so that makes you either an idiot or a new player. Not that there's much difference between the two."

"Sir Lancelot and looking for ore from the looks of it." Pulse answered Tec's question in advance, rolling her eyes. Tec was a good player, but there were a few things Pulse was starting to second guess her partner about. Her interest turned to Lancelot instead. "You found a good spot for mining, didn't you? You can show us how thankful you are by directing us to it."

With Tecumseh on the look-out, both Pulse and Lancelot farmed ores until their pick-axes broke. That would definitely be enough

Barong
36/36 HP | 17/17 MP | 6/10 XP

The battle was over quite quickly. Barong and his party had taken down 22 harenn in that bout, which equaled to the a grand prize of 50 leather strips. When they got back to town, they split up with Litari to hit the markets. Between him and Rissa, they made a small fortune selling their earnings. Needless to say the price would drop tremendously for every other player late to the party, but for now the two players fancied their selves the richest merchants in the market.

Shortly after both parties had returned, sold and healed up, their attention would be drawn to a small crowd. It gathered at the edge of town, surrounding a group of four players who had just finished a quest called 'Relics of Yore'. They told about their findings; mysterious floating stones. They followed them south-east, where eventually they found a canyon... On with a floating fortress in the middle. They had tried to enter it, jumping across floating stepping stones, but just a single room in they had been wiped out. Still, their map data said something very interesting; the fortress had no name, but was tagged as 12-man raid...

"Are you thinking what I'm thinking?" Barong smirked as he nudged Rissa (they'd just regrouped to divide the money they earned.) A lot of players were obviously eager to try, but seeing the original four explorers didn't have any obvious tanks or healers with them, not to mention they were all still donning starting equipment. It was rather obvious what had caused their demise. Barong materialized a purse of coins and threw it up and down, twinkle in his eye.

"What if we used our earnings and take that dungeon? I think we're rich enough to equip a raid party. What do you think?"

Pulse, who had also been listening to the stories about the raid-dungeon, couldn't help but overhear Barong. Without warning, she grabbed Tecumseh by his arm and dragged him towards Barong and Rissa. "You'll need skilled players." She prompted, then pointed at herself and her partner. "You won't be wasting that equipment on gamers like us. We'll join your raid-party."

Barong was caught a bit off-guard. "People are sure excited, aren't they, Rissa?" He shook his head, "What do you think? Suppose we'll make a profit if we do this?"[/hr]

"Hey, watch it there, Pulse! I'm not a damn rag-doll to be pulled around," Tec didn't like being the idea that he could be pushed around physically by the smaller player. He was fine with being given orders and would follow them to the letter, but touching his person to dominate him was a strike against your character in his mind. However, he didn't move back to his previous spot as the two players Pulse wanted to team up with seemed interesting enough.

Listening to Barong speak as he memorized as many details as he could of the two, Tec nodded at his question, "I'll guarantee you make a profit, buddy. Doesn't matter if I have to give up my share of the loot, as long as the team is well-supplied and has good morale, I'll be happy as well," he looked Barong in the eyes, looking for any hint of doubt in his eyes as he held out a hand, "Though we had best learn each other's names before we leave, my fellow cowboy. Name's Tec, yours?"

Sir Lancelot
45/45 HP | 10/10 MP | 9/10 XP

The water was wonderful. It swirled through his mouth and glided down his throat. It soothed his body and mind. Or maybe only his mind. The drink didn't do a thing for him game-wise, but it did make him feel normal. Things like that--things that would keep players sane--were important in VR.

Now this girl. Pulse. To say she was a curiosity would be an understatement. To say she lacked the tact Tec displayed would be equally understated. While Tecumseh tried to start an easy-going conversation, Pulse cut right into business. Lance liked the pair. "Gladly. It will be my pleasure to show you, just as soon as I'm on my feet. You don't think it's possible to dislocate a virtual shoulder, do you?" he asked with a half-smile. He was only half-joking. With a heave (and a small wince), Lancelot pulled himself upright and spun around until he found the hill he had been heading toward. "That way. Susume!"

Either it wasn't possible to dislocate an arm or Lancelot had simply lucked out, but when finally the three reached his small iron vein, the pain in the knight's arm had subsided enough that he could heft his pick. He collected the ten iron for Skraps, then kept going until his pickaxe finally snapped. That was that, so back to the town they went--rich enough to be, if not kings, decently equipped nobles.

Rissa
20/20 HP | 22/22 MP | 6/10 XP

Some things only a child can get away with. Rissa knew that well, and she was going to play it for all the fun it was worth. "Of course we'll make a profit. But that lady is really bossy." She glanced at Pulse, putting on a pout and flattening her ears. Then she glanced over Pulse's shoulder at the knight--already suited up in iron platemail--following behind her obediently. It was easy to make an assumption there, even if it wasn't true. Time for a mood switch, Rissa decided.

Rissa ran right up to Pulse and gazed up at her with shining eyes. "You have a minion!" she stated admiringly. Her tail shot back and forth in a happy blur. "Can I ride him? Please? Pleeeeease?" the small girl begged, folding her hands together beseechingly.

Barong
36/36 HP | 17/17 MP | 7/10 XP

"That party is filling up fast, isn't it?" Barong laughed. Of course it would, if they offered equipment up front, players like Pulse and Tecumseh would swarm towards them. Better yet, it seemed they would have the pickings. It didn't take long at all to gather people as the word spread. Although other parties being formed seemed to have trouble getting the right combinations of players together, Barong and Rissa could plainly pick up anyone.

They had two tanks in Sir Lancelot and Calice (who Barong contacted), and Pulse, after shrugging and telling Rissa to do what she couldn't help herself not to, sent a message to pick up a full-on DPS berserker by the appropriate name of Savage. Three healers were found; Skraps, Mary Sue and Ilya. Two sisters (of which one apparently had a lot of followers pushing her) joined as well, and lastly the roster was balanced out by a member by the name of Outcast.

"Great," Barong clapped his hands together once all was said and done. There had been a couple minutes of introductions and equipment requests, while Barong and Pulse had temporarily withdrawn to discuss a basic party lay-out. Rissa, Calice and Skraps took care of those requests and now were set out to buy and craft the equipment, but kept their channel open so they could hear Barong speak. "We don't know what awaits us, so I've tried to make this as balanced as possible. Pulse and I have put the following parties together."

In front of everyone a screen opened up that read 'raid menu' in which the following compositions were revealed;

Scout and support
  • Barong - Leader
  • Rissa
  • Vivy
  • Skraps

Defence
  • Calice - Leader
  • Sir Lancelot
  • Outcast
  • Mary Sue

Offence
  • Tecumseh - Leader
  • Savage
  • Pulse
  • Angelle
  • Ilya

"Our defence party will be taking the heat; Mary Sue is the most dedicated healer so she is placed here as well. Lastly the offence party is compromised of our best damage dealers, your job should be simple. The rest of us will scout, lure, and assist whichever party needs a little extra fire-power. Rissa, Vivy and I have the best gap-closers so we switch fast. Skraps plays our support."

It was the first time Barong would actually lead a raid, and it had him quite thrilled. This should be a more challenging experience than leather hunting had been... And it was getting him all riled up. "Let's go show TDO who is the alpha of the beta!" Barong cheered, subsequently getting the image of their party being a frat-event of sorts as he said that. "If everyone got their stuff and there's no urgent questions, let's go!"

Vivy, the Berserker Knight
- 37/37 HP - 12/12 MP - 2/10 XP -
An hour later, Vivy's hands were stained with the blood of dozens of rabbits. Metaphorically speaking, since the animals don't really bleed in this digital world. Neither was she actually using her hands. In any case, her level had risen by 1. Vivy didn't know whether she was making much progress at all. The whole game was very puzzling for an absolute beginner who didn't know anything about video games. Her killing spree was interrupted by a message from "Angelle".

"Finally," Vivy muttered with a roll of her eyes. The girl told her that she had found a "raid party" and told her to come along. Raid... as in raiding party? Whatever it was, it sounded like fun already. Following her subsequent directions, she finally saw Maria's avatar again. There were several other players gathered around the area.

A "raid" referring to a special area filled with monsters that usually took a large amount of players to conquer. The rewards would also be higher than usual. It certainly sounded a lot more appealing than animal abuse, so Vivy signed up without hesitation. However, she was placed in a different group than Maria. Vivy was starting to wonder if they were ever going to be together.

The raid leader, Barong, gave a quick run-down of the battle plan. Vivy didn't get half of the things he said.

"What's a gap-closer?" Vivy whispered to her sister. It earned her a deep sigh.
"It means you can close gaps quickly. Your ability, Leap Slam, allows you to jump on enemies, right?" Vivy shrugged cluelessly. She had honestly forgot about skills and how to use them. With another sigh, Maria explained it to her a second time.
"Okay... I use it when there are many enemies. Gotcha."

It was time to start. Maria left to join her own group. Vivy waved at her teammates as she approached. Barong was a tall and athletic man with long dreadlocks. There was also a small girl with fox-like ears and tail- so being human wasn't the only choice.

"Hey. Thanks for setting this up, looks cool." Vivy said to Barong. "I'm totally new at this game, but I'm pretty sure I can stab anything that crosses our path. Nice to meet all of you."

She waved her short spear for emphasis.

[BCOLOR=transparent]Rested and healed doubly so from a series of duels Sav found himself in the venture of trading hard earned credits for equipment. He'd bartered nearly all of his equipment for a single weapon, but with his winnings he stood poise to gain a second. The berserker was the only class, to which he was aware, that could dual wield and so there was an evident bonus to it. The con of the fact was that upgrading weapons to keep up with others was probably going to drain any credit he made during quests until he hit the level cap of the game. Nonetheless with an iron axe and soon to be a second he would be dealing an extra chunk of damage, fifteen points if anyone wondered, potentially even enough to split open a few arachnids. Revenge would have to wait though as Pulse caught his attention with a message. [/BCOLOR]

[BCOLOR=transparent]Replying back to her immediately, as he wasn't particularly busy, Sav was sent an invite by someone named Barong. Accepting his display brought up another cluster of names that continued to grow. With each tick of a new member he wondered what precisely the goal of having so many people was, as Pulse hadn't entirely filled him in. That would be accomplished by Barong in short time. Before that though Sav found himself requesting a mix of HP and MP restoring items. He hadn't picked up any crafting skill yet leaving him a bit behind the curve. Despite the advantages it would provide for him later on the tediousness of crafting and selling and working with others and so many things was something that he hadn't intended to focus on and would rely instead of credits from quests or PvP events to buy his way through the equipment of the game.[/BCOLOR]

[BCOLOR=transparent]As Barong turned the raid party into a frat party Sav shook his head. "And here we go." He mused to himself a little happy Pulse had asked him to join. So long as there weren't anymore spiders this was going to be fun. [/BCOLOR]

[BCOLOR=transparent]At the beckon of Barong Calice came running over to him. Roughly hewn guild left behind he found himself well behind some in terms of level, but ahead with his equipment compared to the rest of the party. "Huh. Guess spending the time to craft things does kind of make sense doesn't it." Convincing to himself Calice couldn't help but wonder if others thought of him as a fool for ignoring the quests in lieu of making things, but reckoned his sword and shield spoke well enough of the task that he wouldn't be needed too. Making small talk while the ranks were fleshed out Calice found himself at the head of the group that would be acquiring equipment for everyone. Giving things away wasn't the best start to a crafting guild, but with a few extra bits of things here and there Calice was able to get some equipment for the others that would help them in the raid, not to mention a bit for himself. Most importantly he got hold of some food and drink, both with the pleasant side effect of restoring HP and MP in turn. Far from making them invincible in battle it at least allowed some chance to push forward without having to rely solely on the healers rendering them into burdens during actual combat. [/BCOLOR]

[BCOLOR=transparent]"Well, this is about all I can get." He offered to the others. "We'd be best to not waste it all in the first few mobs if we can." [/BCOLOR]

[BCOLOR=transparent]New to the game and still a bit lost Elarius, as she would be known in TDO, found a group of people looking for a big party almost instantly. Without much experience she thought maybe she'd do better with a large group, or at least be safer with them, and she jumped at the chance. Not to mention they were giving away free gear and she couldn't just pass that opportunity up. An invite soon sent to her Elarius ticked the 'Accept' and was brought into the raid group. Astounded by how many people had filled the group she introduced herself curtly after the spear waving Vivy.[/BCOLOR]

[BCOLOR=transparent]"Hey, I don't really know a whole lot about the game either, but I can heal you. I've got that down pat." [/BCOLOR]

[BCOLOR=transparent]Pleased with herself Elarius was questioned by Calice. Trying to figure out how to whisper to him she fumbled with the game briefly but found the controls. He wanted to know what she needed for equipment other than some things to help restore mana. Not particularly sure of what she needed a staff was as good a decision as any at this point. On to that if she could get some decent armour she'd be happy as well. Calice didn't seem all too pleased to add armour to his laundry list, but didn't refuse either. [/BCOLOR]

After talks with Barong were concluded, Pulse walked over to her own party. She had mixed feelings about it. "Looks like we 're carrying." Pulse muttered offhand to Savage and Tecumseh, who were both listed in her party. Pulse hadn't been too keen on the idea of inviting level one players, but she couldn't be too angry about it when she peeked at her stats window. That sure had taken a turn for the better, now sporting iron gauntlets and an iron chainmail. "Nothing we can't handle."

"That's right!" Ilya chimed in, though she was a little unsure about what Pulse had meant by her previous comment. "Don't you worry, I will do my best to help you all out. I'm Ilya, pleased to meet you."

Barong
36/36 HP | 17/17 MP | 8/10 XP

It seemed the parties were getting together well. "Thanks for the support, Calice." Barong thanked the leader of the tank party as he distributed the goods. "Think of it as an investment, okay?" Knowing the knight too had put in some dough of his own.

To Vivy, he simply smiled and said "You'll get the hang of it soon enough. Baptism by fire, am I right?" After all, they'd already started marching and there was no way back now. Well there was, but then he'd be losing his investment as well. After equipping the raid party, he was more or less back to being broke.

The travel was fairly smooth. With the party being able to avoid most fights (Rissa's passive speed boost really came in handy scouting wise) they were able to reach the dungeon unscathed. As described back at the Landing Site; it was a massive floating castle. Oddly medieval in design, but much more streamlined and of a peculiar colour. The party had to skip across floating rocks to even enter it; proving a slight test of agility... Something some of the newer players might had problems with. Yet they all made it to the gates of the castle... And when the doors opened before them, a cold wind blew from the inside out. A window asking for confirmation popped up in front of Barong, who had taken on the role for raid leader, and Barong confirmed that this was the party the would go with. The party was transported into the castle and soon the door closed behind them leaving them in complete darkness... Until floating blue flames popped up and shed light over the castle's interior. They floated and... Laughed at the same time. These theme of this dungeon would soon become clear...

The first room was a long corridor, leading up to a staircase. However, there didn't seem to be any enemy activity just yet. It was simply a long hallway, but there were suits of armour standing to the sides, and if you went close enough, there were holograms imitating paintings of old people... Even if the holograms seemed to have their hues shifted to cyan.

"Let's stay on guard." Barong said, as he was already slowly starting to understand what had happened to their informers. "This room killed four level fours, we'd better take caution."

Vivy, the Berserker Knight
- 37/37 HP - 12/12 MP - 3/10 XP -
The party made their way to the raid dungeon in relative peace. Vivy stayed content gawking at the amazing scenery. There was just so many places to explore in this game. Before long, they arrived at their destination: a humongous floating castle that defied all known laws of physics. Not that they applied to a virtual world.

"This is amazing!" Vivy exclaimed, elated at the wondrous structure. It became clear that they were to enter and conquer the castle in question. Once Barong started the mission, the whole part was teleported into the interior.

At first, pitch darkness greeted her. Blue flames soon lit up to illuminate the room. A long hallway lined with suits of armor awaited them. Vivy had watched enough movies to know where this was going. Being the more armored player, she voluntarily stepped forward to lead the party. If anything happened, she should be able to survive it.

"Let's go!" Vivy shouted as she marched forward, eyes wary of her surroundings

[BCOLOR=transparent]Casting a sideways glance to Pulse Sav shook his head. "The last time we thought that didn't we, and more importantly I, almost die?" As the party stepped off Sav followed in suite, careful to follow the instructions of the party leader in avoiding mobs. Though he would have rather destroyed them for the quick XP upon reconsidering the size of the party towards the amount of Harenn they might possibly face he understood that the split XP would be too insignificant to even register. Instead they avoided detection, relying on Rissa to act as a forward scout until they reached the floating stones of the castle, and then soon after the pitch black of the dungeon. [/BCOLOR]

[BCOLOR=transparent]As floating gas balls began ridiculing the group with laughter Sav tightened his hands around his axes. "Wonder if I can kill em." He mused aloud as Barong urged them to be cautious. Finding safety next to Sir Lancelot, a tank beyond any doubt, Sav waited for the first of the monsters to take it's turn at them. [BCOLOR=transparent]"An expensive investment don't you think?" Taking the fact that most of his own coffers were emptied and doing his utmost to ignore it, Calice fell into the groove of the party again. He worked in conjunction with them, avoiding enemies and letting the others do what they needed too. The dungeon itself was fairly impressive, a medieval castle built high atop it's rocky landscape that seemed impenetrable, except for the floating staircase of rocks that led to it. Within the grandeur wasn't lost as suits of armour and holograms adorned the eloquent hallway that sat ahead of them. [/BCOLOR]

[BCOLOR=transparent]As Vivy motioned to step ahead of the group Calice followed suit. "Might not want to be the only one to take the damage in the first room." His eyes quickly picked over everything searching for the faintest sign of movement.[/BCOLOR]
