Kacey hugged him tightly when he pushed himself into her lap. "Yes, the doctor says she'll be fine," she told him simply. "It's a scary thing, what happened, you know. But I think she's going to be okay in that way, too." Kacey thoughtfully rubbed her friend's paw.
The nurse bustled back in with a tray, loaded with a syringe, cotton balls, a couple of bottles of medication, and an eye dropper. She smiled at Chance and set the items on the side table, carefully avoiding the flowers. Turning to Sinead, she gently shook her to rouse her.
Sinead was groggy and slow to wake up, and a bit confused. She flailed her good arm, breaking Kacey's hold on it, mumbling and whining.
The nurse called her name until Sinead calmed down and woke up properly. "Miss Teague, we're just going to give you some pain medication, as well as some drops for your eye," she said gently. "The pain meds will make you sleepy, so you'll be able to get a good rest, alright?"
Sinead was shaky and breathing fast, but nodded mutely at the nurse.
The nurse efficiently and gently gave her the injection, and the drops, before checking her pupils and her wounds. Satisfied, she lowered her head a bit, but left her legs elevated so she'd be comfortable, and left the room.
Kacey pulled Chance to her and hugged him again, this time for her own comfort.
