If you are a MATURE ROLEPLAYER, this is a very important announcement! Please pass this on to your fellow roleplay partners if they have not seen this thread.


Over this summer we have had a variety of issues when it comes to Mature content on Iwaku. NOT because Iwaku itself is at risk, but because members (especially teen members) have not made responsible choices when it comes to choosing roleplay partners. We bend a few laws here on Iwaku to allow creative freedom for all roleplayers, but this has been taken advantage of and it has put members in to potentially harmful situations. We've come to the realization that reform is a MUST if we want to continue offering mature content as a creative outlet and keep our members safe at the same time.

This unfortunately means that we need to change our mature area, our mature content policies and how we let members express it.

The Following rules are going to be instated on Iwaku, step by step over the next week.

---> We will have two areas for Mature content. Mature Adult (18+) and Mature Teen (Under 18). In order to access your area, you must join a permissions group! We WILL now allow people under 16 to access the Teen area since you will only be interacting with other underaged people. (That means members at 13-15 will now be able to do mature content in a safe and responsible way.) But this is subject to change if issues arise. Please do not abuse this.

---> Members 18+ will no longer be allowed to do mature content with members Under 18. We are very sorry if you are about to lose out on a great partner, but LEGALLY we are trying to protect you and your reputation. You CAN be arrested for this and labeled as a sexual predator in the US. And there ARE creeper assholes that take advantage of teens. We want to prevent potential harmful situations for BOTH teens AND adults.

---> We will continue to allow sexually graphic scenes on the public roleplay forums as long as people continue to make use of the
tags with proper content warnings. Should a roleplay become too graphic, it would be at the discretion of the mods on whether or not it needs to be moved to the appropriate Mature area.

---> Any One[x]One threads that contain more than one graphic sex scene will be moved to it's appropriate mature area.

---> The Steambox and Bordello will now only be accessible by 18+ members. It is currently under debate whether or not we will open a mature rpbox for Under 18.


WHAT WILL HAPPEN WITH CURRENT MATURE THREADS:

FIRST: Make sure to join your appropriate permissions group. We will not be moving ANY threads for a few days, so members can have a chance to do this and not have their roleplays interrupted. This will go quicker if you already have your age visible in your profile so Mods don't have to dig for it.

SECOND: Ask your roleplay partners how old they are. If your partner is no longer going to be in your age group, you have a few days to wrap up your roleplay before it gets archived. GROUP roleplays will be moved to the age group of the Game Master. Find a way to end with those characters. :/ It's unavoidable.

THIRD: Take a deep breath and relax, knowing that you no longer need to be concerned whether or not you are playing with someone too old/too young.



We apologize to the people that are going to be losing out on amazing roleplay partners because of these new age restrictions. But the safety and the peace of mind of our members is our top priority. Thank you for understanding and cooperating as we make these transitions!

Will this affect the groups as well, or just the main forums?
 
As long as any mature content in groups are listed as 16+ you'll be okay, unless problems pop up. o__o Group owners are responsible for the content in their groups.
 
There seems to be some confusion about what will happen when some users hit their 18th birthday!

All you will need to do at that time is request to join the 18+ permission group, just as you joined the Under 18 group before. Your request will be approved, and you will be removed from the Under 18 group. It's as easy as that!
 
Excuse an inexperienced young fool, but when you talk about the graphic content, what would you define as the limit for under-18s? Is it all right to mention the hoo-ha in the fairy cave, as long as it skirts around it or only hints at it? I'm assuming the more extreme side of it is not to even be suggested, at least in the under-18 section.
 
In the mature area, mention whatever the heck you damned please. XD That's why it's a mature area. You will be with people you are legally allowed to participate and discuss that content with. We're not going to nitpick the details in there.


But in the PUBLIC forums, I wouldn't go mentioning hoohahs and fairy caves without spoiler tags. o__o
 
Careful though, if one doesn't showdoo your hoohah properly, we may be forced to dopof your warhoos in exchange for many zowcow.

So if we are role playing with someone over our age, our role plays will be archived??
 
If you are roleplaying adult content with someone who is over 18 and you are under 18, or vice versa, then yes. You will no longer be able to RP in the same Mature forum. You will of course be able to RP with anyone on the regular sections of the forum.
 
And all of our role plays that are with members of our age group will just be moved, and we can continue them?
 
Diana, this is brilliant and useful. I hope Iwaku hasn't been getting in trouble, that this is only preventive.

And no, Iwaku has not gotten in trouble! This is preventative, as you say, Teeks.
 
This is actually a really great idea. It will keep people from getting into trouble.
 
But sadly ruins all of my roleplays. So if your roleplaying with a younger person in the regular one on one roleplays will you get to keep them?
 
Yes, keeping in mind these rules:

So if you're doing multiple adult scenes or being too graphic, you will essentially be killing your RP, since it would need to be moved to Mature and you and your partner have separate Mature access. And obviously, it is safer legally for YOU that you not write sex scenes AT ALL when roleplaying with younger members!


 
I demand a 30+ Mature Roleplay area. For sophisticated porn.

I have a question. If you have a roleplay with a younger member, once they turn 18, can we resume the roleplay with that person?
