The House on Ash Tree Lane

On March 7th, 2010, a mysterious short film titled "The 5 & 1/2 Minute Hallway" was released online to much fanfare and acclaim. It took the internet by storm, causing people to speculate on where it was filmed and how the special effects were achieved by an amateur filmmaker. However, the film disappears just as quickly as it appeared, having been deleted by cautious moderators on nearly every legitimate website. Downloading it proves risky as various computers cease to function, which is attributed to faulty code or malware. Interest dies down after a few months, and most forget that it even existed at all.

Some, however, are determined to keep the story going. A group of students from a nearby college decide to visit a house where the film was rumored to have been created. Their goal? To put out a documentary on the mysterious film for a contest with a big cash prize. Sparing no expense, they rent an apartment in the town closest to the house and prepare for an expedition. The place is seemingly abandoned, with windows broken and its doors boarded up long ago. The locals say it's haunted. Undeterred, the students begin studying the residence for the duration of their Spring Break, not knowing that in old Will Navidson's house, they are never alone.

This is not for you.
On April 6th, 2023, a new family has settled into a small neighborhood in rural Virginia with the intention of turning over a new leaf. A terrible scandal forced them to relocate and escape a media frenzy, so when a sale listing was seen for a spacious home on Ash Tree Lane, it was impossible to resist. The parents were willing to overlook the unusually cheap price and the rumors surrounding it. Regardless, the neighbors are friendly, and the surrounding town is just the kind of place your the family was looking for. A place to begin anew.

The illusion of comfort is broken very suddenly when the family notices an unwelcome addition to their house: a door has suddenly appeared between bedrooms, and it definitely wasn't there before. A new and perfect life gives way to something sinister and far beyond any explanation.

Who are you in all of this?

This is a multi-tiered story, with winding pathways and layers upon layers of narrative. Players can choose to either be the students as they conduct their investigation of the house, or the new family that moves in years later. Time means nothing to it; actions in one layer of the story will impact outcomes in the other. At every turn you must ask yourself: what is the cost of entering this mysterious labyrinth?

Oh this sounds fun.

Ooooh interesting!

Little solace comes
to those who grieve
when thoughts keep drifting
as walls keep shifting
and this great blue world of ours
seems a house of leaves

moments before the wind.

hell ye bruthur

Always proud when others get the reference.

Oh hell yeah, count me in!

Seems like we may have enough to begin soon! I will wait for one or two more before fleshing out a proper OOC thread.
