Hello there!

I've a question for you, just one, simple question.

Would you be interested in a high fantasy nation-building roleplay in which your main character is an ambassador of that nation, though you'd also be required to play the queen and the overall nation at times.

It'd be a very free reign creation game but I MUST approve the culture to ensure the dynamics and relationships and world mechanics line up enough for a workable set of races.

The plot? Well, it's not fully developed yet, since that takes a lot of time and effort and if nobody wants to join then it's all for naught!

My main idea though, would be a powerful foe threatening all of the nations. We'd have to band together and potentially a few nations would break off and join the evil side.

That's being said, I've never done an RP like this. I'm confident I can do well as a GM, but I might need your help and input at times! Possibly a co-GM as well?

Anyways, we're talking elves riding Giant, winged deer. Dwarves digging mines with 100ft worms that consume everything they come across. Fae races that swarm and slaughter with poisonous needles that, once in the skin, they are almost impossible to remove. We're talking a massive evil force threatening all of civilization. Political drama, romance, betrayal, war!

Sound like a good time?

Let me know :)]

Lol I like how I didn't even actually ask the question XD

Definitely interested in this, I would volunteer as co-GM but I have never done it before, maybe if you can get another one I would be a third party type GM^^

Lol welcome! And hey, I find the best GM's are so by experience but by dedication and willpower :P

I've been thinking about doing a nation-based RP for a while but I've never quite had the balls to do it. I'm GMing two other RP's but both have reached that slower point that comes with being long-term RP's so I think I'm ready to take on something new.

I also want to expand my work as a GM and become more spontaneous, adding in a table top feel. But I'll pitch the idea of using stats and rolls in this RP once we get enough people interested to have an opinion!

That sounds pretty cool^^, I do hope more people at least come to look at this and get a feel for it. I have never done a Nation RP before, I was too intimidated in trying to do one. Now that I have a good enough knowledge of roleplaying and know the ropes a bit, wanna try something that will be more creative and will deal with a bigger impact on what I write lol.

A High Fantasy nation roleplay where I can create a custom race/species and nation? Sign me up~

I'm the opposite of you two: I've participated in quite a few nation roleplays, but never actually GMed in all my time roleplaying.
I'm not qualified to give any advice on how to run a roleplay, but I have noticed that the best nation roleplays I've been in had an enormous amount of collaboration between players, far more so than typical character-driven roleplays. A direction for the world is always good to have as well, and fortunately your idea does indeed have that with the "powerful foe." But that's just my two-cents.

As for the Tabletop feel, I must admit I'm a bit wary. I do enjoy tabletop games and systems, but from my experience numbers and nation roleplays, funnily enough, don't seem to go well together.

I'd be more than happy to help however I can, even if it is just recounting my experiences in nation roleplays~

Sounds like you'll be plenty of help!

I almost wanted to use numbers to moderate kingdom abilities. But maybe I'll say "put one 'excellent', two 'above average', three 'averag, and 3 'poor' onto this list of traits for your nation"and that'll help make things more balanced.

The urge for a quantitative system comes during combat, that's where things tend to become more foggy

My apologies for my sloppy writing lol. I'm on my cell phone and despite the large amount of time I spend on it my posts are still a wreck

Ah, I can get behind that. When I was thinking of numbers, I was thinking of the actual pop demographics, standing army percentage, and other similar things people tend to put in their sheets. Lots of arguments to be had that way.
But dealing with smaller numbers and rankings is quick and easy to understand. It's a good method.

And I do agree that combat—especially between players—is a common area for debate. Most GMs tend to choose the winner themselves based on their own personal method, as leaving it up to the players can potentially be catastrophic.
I'll admit, I would enjoy seeing a system that puts a bit of luck into battle~

Yeah would be fairer if no one had the answer only finding out because of numbers. This is going to be fun.

I really like this idea! I don't particapate in many fantasy RP's, since before i disliked fantasy RP's, but then joined one and i was really into it, but after that every fantasy rp i tried to join didn't kick off :( But i am really liking the concept! Not sure if i can co-gm since i have a lot of problems with my computer but i could always be there for input and to throw in some ideas here and there :3!

Awesome sauce! That's a few people, let's see if we can get a few More! I think if we all work together we can make this really great :)

I will bite.

I'm up for this, but I do think you need to be careful with these types of things. Too many numbers involved and the RP stagnates and dies because you're constantly waiting for the GM to moderate. Too few numbers and it turns into heated debates about whose dragon fleet is better. I've done quite a few Nation RPs both as a player and as a GM, and I'd say the ones that have worked best are the ones that focus more on trade and player relationships than war. You should try to avoid battles if at all possible, but if you do get battles it should be resolved in a very simple way:

1. Each party involved pitches the reasons they should win the battle. This could involve the size of the army, the specialism of the army on that given field... anything that comes to mind.
2. The parties decide who is going to win. They may not argue about it, because if they argue then tension rises. Each player gets 1 post to pitch their reasons, and 1 post to say who they think should win. This post may not criticise anyone's pitch. The aim of this system is to prevent people arguing.
3. If no decision is reached based on the vote, then each party rolls a dice. The highest dice roll is the one that wins the battle. The players may then RP the battle as they please.

Having a large amount of numbers and values involved in a nation RP just makes it pretty boring. It's not like a nation game where the numbers are instantly calculated and such, and if numbers are involved in determining nation strength or battle outcome, it just becomes a constant competition to one-up the other players. Every nation should be equal and battle be decided purely by negotiation or dice roll. Any racial / nation abilities or unique traits would be to add flavour to the story, rather than to decide wars.

Alright. That looks like enough interest to move forward. Karakui, your words are duly noted!

We'll definitely be establish a few things together as a group before continuing. Dosucssing what kind of an rp you all want and what kinds of systems we will use to make this flow smoothly. I'll start to work on a CS skeleton and hopefully start the rough draft of a map with several territories marked on it to choose from. Choice will be in order of arrival, or if you can diplomatically agree on who gets what, that's fine too.

A question: do you want to do some kind of a dice roll to
Determine the initial size/expanse of your nation?

1-7 is small, 7-15 is medium and 15-20 is large?

Or do you all want complete free reign on creation? If so, I will have to do more moderating to make sure nobody is trying to build an empire among villages lol

A little specifications on size could do. Like village level, town level, kingdom-level, empire level and so on.

We also need to sort out a way for growth to occur. Like, the grounds for moving from a town to a city.

Also, any suggestions on time rate? One IC month per RL week seems realistic for the nation level but what about for relationships forming between the ambassadors we're playing?

I think complete freedom when it comes to nations. I know I at least get very demotivated when parts of the idea I wanted don't fit. It's OK if that's because of being OP or not fitting the setting, but when it's down simply to the number on a dice, it's just annoying.

Well I didn't think that just dictating nation size would be limiting lol. You Will have limits to some extent. For example, I'll be making a map, dividing the territory and then you all have to pick which territory you want, in order of who arrived first, and that'll dictate what kind of resources will be available.

Unless everyone is against that too. Lol in which case I need to go back to the drawing board
