KROGAN
Even given the infinitesimal depths of space and time alike, the adage of 'history repeats itself' has endured. The Krogan race of Tuchanka, having been cured of the infamous genophage largely thanks to the efforts of legendary salarian Mordin Solus, is a deep, intricate case study of whether the adage holds true.

On a positive note, Tuchanka's reconstruction has gone splendidly, in no small part due to replenished numbers and assistance from other Council species. Urdnot Wrex and Urdnot Bakara ('Eve') are leaders with rationality and reason rarely expected from the race. In an incredible step forward for the Krogan, the race was offered a seat on the Galactic Council, filled by Urdnot Bakara, who - although a stranger to the fullest depths of deceit Citadel politics has to offer - has proven to be a shrewd politician in her own right.

Not all is well, however, for the Krogan are - as ever - Krogan. Turian and Salarian detractors of Mordin's legacy will note - justifiably so - the dangers in restoring an inherently militant race's impressive fertility. While Urdnot Wrex has implemented measures to regulate Krogan birth-rates, it is not a cause he has devoted his full will towards. He is wise enough to understand the dangers of a skyrocketing Krogan populous, but is equally loathe to enact stringent birth-measures so closely removed from the horror of the genophage.

While Wrex has done admirably to direct portions of the thriving populous towards the task of rebuilding Tuchanka, he of all people is aware of the innate Krogan need for combat. While he has done his level best to steer the Krogan's mightiest towards Citadel-approved causes, the Eclipse, the Blood Pack, and the Blue Suns have all claimed their fair share of Krogan service, as in the days of old.

Most ominously, however, are voices of dissension amongst Krogan society, clans that remember what the Turians and the Salarians delivered unto them, memories tinged with the bloody coloration of vengeful yearnings.

Krogan NPCs of Note:

Urdnot Wrex:

Urdnot Bakara: also known as 'Eve'.

Urdnot Solus: As it happens, Urdnot Wrex did eventually cave to Bakara's requests of naming their firstborn after the Salarian scientist who gave his life for their people. Still young, red-blooded, and eager for the fight as all Krogan are, Wrex's son has taken to heart the meaning of his namesake. Solus understands the burden and meanings of responsibility and accountability, and has a particular interest towards the sciences, namely biological. Many consider Urdnot Solus to be a fine Krogan to assume a position of leadership after Wrex decides his time is through.
ASARI
The fall of Thessia was the most devastating day of the Asari's long history, what was once the galaxy's crown jewel rendered to oblivion.

With that said, Asari was first of the Council races, and for good reason. Technologically brilliant, and the finest of diplomatic minds, the Asari have continued to traverse their way in galactic standing where they - as ever - remain the foremost of the Council, all the while turning their focus to a more insular objective: rebuilding that which has been lost.

Miraculously, Councillor Irissa has retained her position in spite of what befell Thessia, and maneuvers with prodigious skill to ensure the will of the Asari is upheld. To that end, she is a calm voice of reason who prefers tranquility over chaos, but with enough instinct to ensure that what occurred on Thessia will never occur again. Armed with cold logic, she has nonetheless performed admirably in allowed the Asari a stable environment in which to rebuild.

Still, a race of brilliant diplomats, vengeful justicars, and generational biotic adepts will never be far removed from the universe's affairs, no matter where one may go.
QUARIAN AND GETH
One of the most unexpected developments of the Reaper crisis was the reconciling of Quarian and Geth upon their rediscovered home of Rannoch. The uniting of Quarian and Geth culture has been one of both symbolic and practical purposes. Geth programs assist with Quarian in daily activities, as well as serving to condition them - via envirosuit - to outside environments, with the aim to strengthen their immune systems. One could go so far as to say the relation between Quarian and Geth is symbiotic. Indeed, newborn Quarian are partnered with newly created Geth programs to form a lifelong partnership, living and growing as one.

The Flotilla, the giant Migrant Fleet once known as the only home of the Quarian, no longer exists as it once did. A smaller version, consisting of around two thousand ships, is still home of many a Quarian, a mobile home. It is a testament to the rise in standing of the Quarians that this group of ships is allowed a significant amount of freedom roaming within council space. The Admiral of the Flotilla is one Tali'zorah vas Neema (formerly vas Normandy), who - along with her Geth counterpart Phalanx - also serves as the Council representative of the Quarian-Geth, who were granted such representation five years after the end of the Reaper crisis.

Even prior to becoming integrated with the Geth, the Quarians were known for their capabilities of fleet-strategy. With their stratagems and technology augmented by the Geth, the Quarians can be said to have the greatest armada of any of the Council species. Interestingly, the Quarian-Geth race are well-known proponents of peace, and prefer to demonstrate such a galaxy-view by rendering support to planets in need through the Flotilla.

PRELUDE
In the year 2189 ARC the battle tested galactic community once again found itself pressured by racially driven conflict. Just three years after the ultimate sentient beings known as the Reapers tried wiping out all organic life in the galaxy, the Batarians infuriated by their lack of standing in the Citadel following the invasion announced a full retraction from Citadel space.

In exchange for absolute solitude the Batarians intended to cut off all contact. With the entire galaxy still healing the scars left by the Reapers, the council had no choice but to accept their conditions and allow a peaceful recession. The Batarians true to their word, disappeared.

Now 2212 ARC, it has been nearly twenty-three years since direct contact was made with the Batarians. The Council in direct violation to the treaty sent STG cells into Batarian space and they've recently returned with disturbing results. Not only had the Batarians strengthened their fleet but they also managed to also uplift Yahg and develop a way to control them. With resentful ties towards the Council and now a large army bolstered with thousands of the incredibly violent and improved Yahg, the Batarians are now a threat to galactic peace and the creation of the TIGER SQUAD, the Council's first and -- if things go accordingly -- last response.

TIGER SQUAD & THEIR SHIP

Tiger Squad is the call sign assigned to the elite infiltration team formed by the Council following the revelation of the Batarian race's activities over the past two decades. One of the driving forces behind the Council's decision to break the treaty's obligations and consequent discovery of the Yahg's upliftment was the insistence and pressure shown by the sixth human Spectre Aleksandr Markovich. Because of this dedication and bravado Commander Markovich has been appointed to spearhead all Tiger Squad operations.

Commander Markovich has been given full clearance in regards to recruiting procedures and has his eyes on individuals of varying races and rank. The team he will lead as well as the amount of crew aboard the Tempest will be smaller than average but they will have to be the best in the business in order to complete the tasks at hand.

Determine the likeliness of an invasion and deal with the matter accordingly.
Hello everyone, Bear here! So the way it's going to work is quite simple, YOUR playable character will be one of the talented individuals that Commander Marko has chosen for the mission. All races are viable choices aside from Batarians, Yahgs, Hanar and the Elcor (though aboard the Tempest is an Elcor Requistion Officer by the name of Randy -- long story).

Shizuochan and I have done away with the traditional class system of the series in favor of the writer having each character flesh out specific strengths and weaknesses of their character. You are free to optimize your character as you please, modelling them after an engineer or adept if that's you want, or going for something in between!

If there are any questions don't be afraid to either post down below or PM me or Shiz!

SSV TEMPEST

The Tempest is designed to be small, stealthy and fast, trading off heavy armor and a main gun to excel in these. It is capable of covering 13 lightyears per day in FTL.

SALARIAN
As ever, the short-lived species proves to be the Galactic Council's foremost provider of technologies and information alike. While mostly secretive and insular - a fact well illustrated by their council representative Dalatress Esheel, forceful and obscuring in equal measure - it is nonetheless a well-known fact that the STG are a great boon for galactic society, and crucial to the efforts of discerning the Batarian threat.
TURIAN
The Third of the Council races, the hard-working and ethical Turian race have maintained their impressive standing within the Citadel, and for good reason. Their disciplined military is arguably the finest force amongst the Citadel races, and their eye for public service is demonstrated everyday through the work of C-Sec. Council Representative Quentius is a man of honor, although perhaps not the finest at the game of cutthroat politics.

The animosity between Turian and Human since the First Contact War has more or less dissipated completely given the race's cooperation against the Reapers, exemplified perfectly by the now legendary partnership of Commander Shepard and the esteemed Garrus Vakarian.

On the Council, the Turian Quentius serves as a reasonable and amiable military adviser, and an avid advocate for interspecies cooperation (earning friends in the form of Tali'Zorah and Bakara), though is more reluctant to choose sides on the Council. His honor tempers the underhandedness of Council politics, but often backs him into a corner when it comes to picking his allies.
HUMANS
Humans have remained mostly the same since the Reaper Crisis, but have situated more comfortably into galactic society. Having shaken the stigma of progressing too far and too fast, humanity has been allowed to grow unmolested.

Their replacement for Donnel Udina is Jefferson Moreau. His wisecracks and wit have not been lost with age, though they've become tempered with time and experience. While irritating to some, they are useful at pointing out what some refuse to see, while also diffusing tense situations. He is friendly with most of the other Councilors, especially those he served with in the past, but views Irissa as having "a stick up her ass the size of a Thresher Maw", and Esheel as being simply distasteful.
HANAR AND DRELL
While known more to some for their offering to the cinematic world in the form of 'Blasto the Hanar Spectre', the Hanar are nonetheless a well-regarded Citadel species, due in part to their contribution in the form of the Drell. Otherwise, as the species is not particularly well-suited to life outside their homeworld, and their trade relations are decidedly minimal, the Hanar are a notable exclusion from the Council.

The Drell remain in harmonious accord with the Hanar as per the Compact. Known primarily as foremost assassins, a precedent was set during the Reaper invasion when the hanar navy - supplemented by drell specialists - came to the assistance of their allies. Drell presence has increased in Citadel space, with Hanar families more willing to loan the services of their subservient Drell.

Ever since the stories of the Prothean that served upon the Normandy surfaced, an effort to discover the 'enkindler' - who has gone missing since the days of the Reaper invasion - has gone underway, with Hanar and Drell operatives on the task.
BATARIAN AND YAHG
The Batarians true to their word disappeared following their recession from Citadel space. It is unclear how exactly they managed to transport multiple Yahg into Batarian space as well as what's their method of controlling the otherwise vicious species.

TIGER SQUAD's objectives include finding the answers to these questions.

With her long dark locks contrasted by a pair of rarity in form of golden eyes, she is abundantly feminine in stature and the object of desire of plenty of nobles within Arora. Her limbs are athletic and well practiced -- a pay off from years of dancing and knifeplay.

As a woman of her stature should, Persephone is almost always well dressed with noticeable a penchant for darker reds, purples and blacks for her wardrobe. Persephone believes that less is more when it comes to style however, and is unlikely to be seen in anything overly eccentric or outlandish.

Beyond that Persephone moves with grace and a seemingly natural sense of sensuality. Though there are more conventionally attractive women on the court, few can actually match the sultry and seductive presence that seems to radiate from the black haired beauty.

PERSONALITY

Personality Traits:
♡ Pompous |Years of success in her field has led Persephone to become cocky.
♡ Charismatic | Charisma is the base of any thriving court figure and Persephone certainly isn't lacking in that department.
♡ Political | Each sweet gesture, and every honeyed word she whisperers is planned in accordance with her own agenda.
♡ Questioning l Though she'd love to believe otherwise, a part of Persephone wonders if climbing the political ladder is worth the cost of her soul.

Strengths:
An immense understanding of court, nobility, and the art of secrets.
A natural people's person. She knows how to get what she wants from others.
Decently agile in physical combat.

Weaknesses:
Morally bankrupt and self-questioning.
Doesn't handle failure or mistakes well at all.
Relatively light/frail.

Quirks: She is far from a stranger regarding sex, but has had few true romantic relationships.

D&D Alignment: Neutral Evil

DETAILS

Inventory:
♡ A series of knives hidden away in different parts of her person (positions change daily)
♡ A silver pendant with her family's insignia marked on it
♡ An expensive hand fan
♡ A silk scarlet colored scarf

Occupation: Political Spymaster for hire, with generally fluid loyalties and noticeable lack of limits. Persephone however, does not do anything regarding children and/or cute animals.

Education: Throughout her child Persephone attended classes of both logical and social nature. She excelled in both.

Character Arcs/Plots: Persephone aims to situate herself in a position where few will be able to touch her. In trying to accomplish this she has grown jarringly addicted to the seductive and ultimately dangerous life of a spy/assassin. This addiction is in direct conflict with the fact that she is beginning to question her lack of morals.

Family Crest: The De Chalon's crest's imagery consists of a grand golden lion crushing a snake underneath it's fearsome claw.

ARMAMENTS

Magic Tier(s): Lower
Attuned Element(s): Water
Fleuntia: Luna

Main Weapon: In physical combat and in most of her assassination jobs, Persephone relies on quick, precise and intelligent knife work in order to come out successful. Along with using them in melee, Persephone's proficiency in knives extend to throwing them with decent accuracy and at respectable distances.

Secondary Weapon: When a quick slice across one's throat isn't an option, Persephone turns to poison and the various applications it has in order to complete an assassination. More time than not however, it takes some clever thinking from the spymaster to work around those like her who are attuned to water.

WRITING SAMPLE

The night had come quickly and soon, so did the crowd. Lady Comtette's Annual Winter Ball was in full effect, the eldest of five's mansion and her renown garden decorated in sheer white and various crystal like fixtures. Nobles of varying degrees filled the vestibules and chambers with drinks in their hands, smiles plastered, and of course -- masks on.

The Gala was not a masquerade, however. The eldest Comtette found those types of affair rather out of fashion after all. But Persephone had learned from very early on that masks come in more forms than just physically.

The entertainer seemed to glide as she made her way across the garden's courtyard, her raven colored hair gorgeously contrasting the crystal adorned gown draped on her frame.

The Comtette family watched her, as well as all the others, from a large balcony above the garden. The five siblings were sat at a table, each one with a goblet of red wine intertwined in their fingers. Persephone came to the Gala to see that its hostess was dead before the night's end. The goblet was her choice of weapon.

An eager noble approached the entertainer for a dance around the same time Lady Comtette's youngest, and Persephone's employer, stood up to address the crowd. Persephone obliged the younger man's request and took his hand in hers, a smile growing on her lips. Together, they spun across the floor with the dark haired beauty leading her counterpart with both experience and grace.

"Good evening everyone! I am so glad that my dear eldest sister has given me the opportunity to address you all this year. On behalf of me and my sib-" The youngest began above before suddenly halting. The youngest Comtette's following expression was confused at first, but as an intense burning sensation ran from her chest and up into her throat she realized what had happened. Down below Persephone simply kept on dancing.

The youngest Comtette began to choke violently as her body painfully betrayed her. The gorgeous white drapes hung from the balcony were stained red with her blood. The crowd stood silent and shocked. Persephone finished her dance with a grand drop. The spy smiled widely as the noble held her for a moment in that picturesque position.

Luckily for her, the eldest Comtette had always been the biggest spender in the family.

PREMISE
To many, death is the end. But for a few it can be the gateway to a new beginning. Moments after a heart stops beating, a person can still be resuscitated. Those who manage to turn away while standing at death's door come back drastically changed.

These individuals wake up able to see beyond The Grey: the previously hidden boundary between the normal world and the supernatural society hiding in its shadows.

These 'Watchers' can see the vampires, witches, werewolves and more for what they truly are; men and women who they once thought were normal turn out to be monsters and nightmares, living out their lives in secret. Three days after these Watchers awaken, they are approached by The Occult.

THE TIME PERIOD
The early 20th century of the United States was rife with fantastic change: from the rise of industry giants, to the great experiment of Prohibition, to the tragedy of the Great Depression, onto the dawn of the Atomic Age.

The RP is set in the early 1940s and so will have heavy noir themes alongside its supernatural elements. I'm not the most picky in terms of historical accuracy but I would advise doing some research into the time period if you are unfamiliar with noir settings!

At the roleplay's core there's going be bad men who have hearts of gold, buyable men, women who are even more dangerous than the men they associate themselves with, etc. Sex, betrayal, money, drugs, smuggling, theft, affairs, are all important elements and expect a lot of moral compromise!
THE LOCATION
Physically, it'll be characterized by smokey bars, shadowy corners and contrasting bright neon lights. Rain never seems to stop pouring in this highly-stylized version of New York City and crime is rampant. The underground crime scene of the city is as profitable as ever and where a lot of the RP will be taking place. Think: trenchcoats, red-light districts, cigarettes, neon strip clubs, relentless rain, dim bars, femme fatales, alcohol.

Haven is the name of large apartment building in NYC that houses The Occult. as well as the Watchers they protect. Supernatural beings are not required to live in Haven but many end up there anyways. To many supernatural beings, Haven is the base of their society's government. Plenty wish to see it and the Occult thrive, while just as many wish it burned to the ground.

THE SUPERNATURAL & THE OCCULT
♡ THE WATCHERS - The human men and women who have been kissed by death and miraculously survived the ordeal. Normal people, who shortly after their experience, begin to see abnormalities in the world around them. The hooded person in the subway's eyes glow, the gorgeous dancer at the bar's canines are inhumanly sharp. The first three days of an awakened Watcher are mentally taxing, stressful and many think they are going insane until they approached by agents of the Occult.

♡ THE SUPERNATURAL - Entails all the races and monsters that Watchers begin to see. These including things like vampires, werewolves, witches and warlocks, etc. Every race has their own set of culture, tradition, and of course - prejudices . Human like Supernaturals also tend to be more successful and well-off, the more prominent beings working as figures in businesses and crime/mob bosses. The more beastly races, while appearing as gruffer and larger humans to the Unawakened, usually function as laborers and criminals.

With that said not all Supernatural beings live within those archetypes, as most are free to do whatever they want with their lives. They can be strippers, butchers, whatever job that humans can do in NYC, so can the Supernaturals. Very few are involved with human politics and/or law enforcement however.

♡ THE OCCULT - The Occult is the title given to the groups of Supernaturals who serve as the closest thing their secret society has to a government. Headed by the richest and oldest witches, warlocks and vampires, they aim to keep the Grey intact and do what's best for supernatural beings as a whole.

That is not to say they are without corruption however, many members of the Occult's leadership live frivolously and use their money and power to bypass the very laws they look to enforce. The Occult's sense of being a well-meaning group in truth, comes from its Sheriff and his deputies, who are perhaps the only individuals aiming to do some good in a world that's entirely bad. They are the ones who investigate heinous crimes committed by their non-human kin and they are the ones who approach the 'Watchers' and educate them on the morally bankrupt world they now live in.

THE ROLEPLAY ITSELF
  • "Welcome to Haven" is the official title of the RP.
  • "The Occult" is the name of what I hope will become a series of roleplays set in this gritty supernatural/noir universe.
  • WtH will primarily be focused on the supernatural society reacting to a new generation of Watchers after having close to none for the past three decades. These Watchers will be objects of interest of both the government and the criminals of the Supernatural society for varying reasons.
  • This RP is a noir-fantasy story so there will be mature content. Violence, cussing, and all that will be included so be prepared to see it if you are interested in joining.
    • With that said, things will be moderated as this will be a mixed-age roleplay.
  • This will likely be an "advanced" roleplay with requirements/expectations on posts.
  • To be honest, there's still a lot of information to be laid out for this universe. I've drafted a decent bit out but I wanted to make sure there's enough interest to warrant the amount of effort!
  • If your like holy shit this is my shit levels of hype and are willing, I am also looking for co-gms! :p

THE CULTURE OF THE GREY
You look into the Grey. You expect to see a spectrum of morality, white to black, good to evil. Yet, what faces you is a multitude of grays. You balk at this. No one is truly good or evil? Yet, is that true in your day-to-day? Even in the mundane world there aren't truly benevolent and malevolent beings. The same could be said for the Grey. There are those that mean well, but they are a pale fraction above those that are vicious and cruel. The supernatural community doesn't breed species capable of inhabiting far ends of the spectrum. No, they exist within the same realm as humans do.

You think one race might be better than the other given what they tell you, well you would be wrong. They view themselves as better, while other races view that differently. This can be said throughout the entire gamete of society. No one is truly better than the other. They all exist in the same soup, some just do a smidge better than others. For instance, the Occult wishes humans well. Yet, they will not sacrifice their own being for the sake of them. The Criminals wish their own design created, but won't totally destroy the fabric of the Grey to do so. And the Sherriff's office, well they mean well, but they are not everyone and everywhere. There are things that will slid gladdening-ly under the cracks.

The pure darkness of the Grey comes from those that want to destroy it. Most of the maleficent members can be viewed as nere-do-wells at worst. They mean well, but do the worst. Yet, the true villains exist within those that want to destroy the in-between. They want to make themselves real and known to the humans. They want to destroy the precious fabric that keeps the sanity of the world intact. They're the adversary of the Sherriff's office, and the Occult. Maybe even some Crime Syndicates want to take them down. They try to disrupt the equality of everything.

Classism is the foundation of the Grey. There are high races and low races. Each belong in their place and have existed in their place since… well… their existence. Such thoughts were created by their ancestors and held onto like an old debutant clutching pearls. These classes are so rigid that no one can casually ascend or descend through them. No. You were born into one and you will stay into one until you die. And if you care to move either direction—you will die. The only exception lies in the Sheriff's office, as Sheriff Blacklaw is a low-class over a series of other supernatural that range from low to high class. Most disregard this as accident. "He means well," they say, "and he gets the job done. But we'll never invite him to our dinner parties."

The worst among the classes are the vampires. Immortal, bloodsucking, beautiful assholes. They've risen above the rest of the supernatural as an unbeatable and irrefutable in beauty. They know their place, and yet they exploit it whenever they can. Literally every other species hates them due to this. It doesn't matter if you're also a species based on beauty, i.e. elves. Or power, i.e. demons. The vampires have both of that in spades and love to wade in front of you like some majestic beast. They truly are the worst.

THE SUPERNATURAL & THE OCCULT

♡ THE WATCHERS - The human men and women who have been kissed by death and miraculously survived the ordeal. Normal people, who shortly after their experience, begin to see abnormalities in the world around them. The more beastly races, while appearing as gruffer and larger humans to the Unawakened, usually function as laborers and criminals. There is a clear divide between the social classes and it directly affects how the races interact with one another.

With that said not all Supernatural beings live within those archetypes, as most are free to do whatever they want with their lives. They can be strippers, butchers, whatever job that humans can do in NYC, so can the Supernaturals. It is extremely difficult however to transcend the social class your race is in. Very few are involved with human politics and/or law enforcement however.

Vampires
Witches and Warlocks
Faeries
Shapeshifters
Werewolves
Others

WITCHCRAFT AND MAGIC
♡ HOW MAGIC IS CAST - Magic will manifest through various incantations, rituals and the combination of odd ingredients. Direct evocation is uncommon and is considered dangerous as magical power without restriction is capable of mass destruction. There are hundreds of spellbooks to be studied but the more capable Witches and Warlocks have a set of spells they've memorized by heart and use often. The older magic user, the more spells they know and the stronger they become.

♡ WHO ARE CAPABLE OF MAGIC - Witches and Warlocks are the strongest of magical users. Their inhuman age and abilities all come from one direct descendant, though the specifics of this magical being have been lost to time. Naturally magical beings such as Faeries are capable of spells as well though their powers are more or less limited to nature and its restrictions.

♡ HOW MAGIC IS APPLIED - Each Witch/Warlock has their own separate set of spells they've memorized by heart and so the application of magic is something that is incredibly versatile. Some magic users might be more inclined to enchanting items with special properties while another might be well versed in creating illusions. An example of a Witch who uses her particular magical skillset effectively is Victoria Rider -- a deputy of Sheriff Blacklaw. The spells she's chosen to master revolve around transportation and tracking so she uses them to aid the Sheriff in capturing criminals.

PEOPLE, GROUPS AND FAMILIES OF IMPORTANCE
♡ THE OCCULT COUNCIL - The eldest, richest and supposedly wisest Supernaturals in the community -- they formed the faction ''The Occult" and brought a sense of law and order in their hidden society of monsters. Their ultimate goal is to maintain the Grey and let humanity live on without knowing better. While they may act like they are on the moral high ground, there are plenty of rumors that the group (mainly composed of vampires, witches and warlocks) bypass their own laws and take part in the very human-involved vices they aim to extinguish.

♡ THE SHERIFF'S OFFICE - The law enforcement force created by the Occult. The members of the Sheriff's Office are directly responsible for protecting those who cannot protect themselves and dealing with anyone who might oppose the Occult's agenda for balance in the supernatural society. They are some of the more genuine and wholesome Supernaturals, though they are far from perfect. The previous Sheriff passed on his position to a werewolf and it was a complete and utter scandal. The current Sheriff still has to deal with plenty of Supernaturals who assume they are now above the law since they are above it's enforcer in class.

♡ THE ROSEWELL FAMILY - A clan of vampires who on the outside simply appear to be an immensely successful business family. Those who know better are aware that the Rosewell fortune comes from their ties to NYC's underground crime scene. Their elegant, chic and ultimately extravagant lifestyle is funded by the mundane and non-human prostitution rings they run. Morally bankrupt, they are cutthroat political masterminds and the arch-nemesis of the Ambrose Clan.

♡ THE AMBROSE FAMILY - Another extremely well off family of vampires, the Ambrose's are inclusive and focus on their family above all else. They own various small businesses across the city as well as plenty of popular casinos. Like the Rosewells, their money mostly comes from illegal sources -- mainly extortion. Fiercely loyal to one another, they have conflicted with the Rosewell family for centuries.

♡ THE CARTEL - Unlike the two aforementioned crime syndicates, the Cartel is not family based. Lead and mainly composed of demons, the Cartel holds complete monopoly on the underground's drug scene. They manufacture, distribute, and profit off of selling drugs to the mundane and non-human alike. Their most recent creation and the latest rage in the underground, is a drug made from demon blood that is brought into the system through a syringe. They are the current targets of the Sheriff's office because of this drug.

"I got a house call from the Council's boy scout, just now."

A certain vulnerability in her voice that few rarely got to hear and the bags underneath her eyes more apparent now that they stood so close, she hesitated. "Mikael told me that Watchers have woken Abraham...the first in nearly half a century."

He watched her as she spoke. Her gaze seemed to avert his, and her eyes seemed heavy--far heavier than he'd ever seen them. Abraham swiftly inhaled at her words, and then he let out a low laugh. "Victoria, it is too late, and I'm too frustrated with this other case for you to be making practical jokes."

There was a pause between them. The silence suffocated the laugh from his throat. His lips drew tight and his brow furrowed. Those blue eyes of his became striking against the darkness of the room.

He grabbed his half finished glass of scotch and downed it in a burning instant. "We need to move--fast. Hells bells," he said, pinching his nose. "I'll get a hold of the other deputies and then we need to get out of here."

Watchers. It had been so long since they'd manifested and if history was any lesson, their appearance was going to bring a helluva lot of trouble...

WELCOME TO HAVEN INTEREST CHECK & LORE THREAD

The human men and women who have been kissed by death and miraculously survived the ordeal. Normal people, who shortly after their experience, begin to see previously unnoticed abnormalities in the world around them. These individuals are labeled Watchers and the hidden world they come to see is one of corruption, strife and the supernatural -- The Grey.

The Watchers find themselves thrown into the chaos of this new and vicious society without warning. Special in the sense that they are apart of two different worlds simultaneously, the individuals are constantly preyed on by this society's dangerous inhabitants and various crime syndicates. At the same time there are those supernatural beings who wish to prevent to Watchers from being slaughtered and exploited by their more malicious kin. The Occult aim to reach out to them and protect these humans from the evils of their world. They house the Watchers, with our without their permission, and help them adjust to their new life. If the Watchers refuse to live by their rules? They disappear never to be asked about again.

For the past fifty seven years however, no Watcher has set foot in New Haven where their kind are made to stay. The presence of Watchers have historically disrupted the workings of the Grey and without them the corrupted elite of their society have grown comfortable. But now the sudden awakening of six Watchers has every supernatural organization's utmost attention and criminal or not, they aim to take them for their own.

RULES AND EXPECTATIONS
Read through every thread made for the RP. This OOC along with the interest check and the lore thread have important information about the universe of the Occult made to be read by the players.

This roleplay is just as much of a noir story as it is a supernatural one. Familiarize yourself with the setting if you aren't already!

I will be accepting characters based on their quality and whether or not they really add to the story. Just because you posted a character sheet does not mean you are guaranteed a spot.

Communication is key and collaboration posts are likely to happen. PLOT WITH PEEPS. :-)

Expect me speak with me a lot. I like plotting for ways to give player characters more agency in the story.

I don't have a strict paragraph limit but you must give enough in your posts for others to work with.

We will likely be using a courtesy system and I expect a post every few days at the very least.

Don't be a dick to others, simple as that. If you absolutely can't resolve a problem you can bring it to me and I'll deal with it accordingly.

Have hella fun.

JANUARY 3, 1947
The orc doorman didn't stir as a pair of scarlet red heels clicked against the classical black and white tiled floor. The woman in those heels strode with a fiery determination, her equally red hair still held in their evening curlers. Her lips were held in a tight frown and her arms were crossed underneath her bust. Walking past the grand stair case nearing the entrance of the lobby, through the front doors and then across the street in the pouring rain she stopped to fish out her keys as she arrived at the doors of her workplace. Maneuvering through the dimly lit front room she then stopped at another door. Sheriff Blacklaw was written on translucent glass. She took a moment to readjust the ribbon of her revealing silk nightgown before knocking at the door, her expression all but happy to be there. "Abraham! We have a situation!"

Abraham heard Victoria before she knocked. He was almost to the door when her voice erupted past it. He opened it briskly. He never did anything with a soft touch. Everything was always fierce and punctual. The office behind him was a mess. A massive wooden table dominated the center of the room. Atop it was a smattering of papers, photographs, and the sheriff's sloppy notes. singular window pointed outside, and directly towards another building. It was cracked open, smoke sliding out of it while the sound of rain entered. It smelled of whiskey and cigarettes. The sheriff practically swallowed the threshold of the door. His broad shoulders kissed the frame and he swiftly buttoned the top button of his shirt before he tightened his tie.

"Victoria," he said, his voice a deep rumble. At work, he'd refer to her as Miss Rider and only Miss Rider. Here, though, with her distraught in her nightgown--she was Victoria. "What's wrong?" He took a step away from the doorway and towards his desk. He may have walked backward to his desk, his eyes intent on her silhouette underneath the gown. Usually, he wouldn't ogle, but she never showed up in her sleep attire. "Must be something taxing for you to give up your much-lauded beauty sleep."

"Taxing..? Hah. Yeah, I suppose you could call it that." She breathed tiredly, her manicured fingers rising up to massage her temples. Victoria walked into the smaller room afterwards, her body swaying past the physically imposing man before walking around to the back of his desk and opened the top right shelf. Coming up with a cigarette moments later she then moved back towards him. Gesturing to the smoke now held lightly between her lips, she explained.

Levi is a rather handsome man nearing his middle age. With broad shoulders, a strong jawline and an icy blue gaze, he has the makings of a lady's man. Years of alcohol, cigarettes and general vice however, have roughened him around the edges. Harsh lines have found permanent residence above his brow and around his eyes. Seemingly as permanent, a cigarette or something of the sort can also be found between his lips.

Beyond that, Levi's body is physically attractive with the majority of his muscle centered around his upper body and forearms. He dresses sharply in personally tailored suits though a bit of recent weight gain around his midsection distresses his button up shirts with every small movement. His shoes are just as expensive as his suits and he always carries a handkerchief in his back pocket as a proper man should (Levi is fully aware that the handkerchief won't make up for all his other shortcomings in that department though).

While he may not fit the exemplary ideal of a man, Levi does not let that falter the confidence which he holds himself with. He is a decently tall man standing at 6'1" so along with his aforementioned physique and a handsome smile he gained the reputation of leaving quite the impression and leaving even quicker the following morning.

LOCATIONS
NEW HAVEN - A decently sized neighborhood where most of the population consists of supernaturals who do not wish harm to humans. This is where the Occult resides along with every supernatural who has willingly subjected to their laws. The neighborhood is divided by social classes just like their society is. The higher class non-humans live closer to the center in decent brownstones/homes while the lower class are scattered around the outskirts in run down apartment complexes/group homes.

In the actual center of the neighborhood is New Haven Apartments where the Watchers are made to live alongside the more peaceful non-human races in New Haven. The top floor of New Haven is where the Occult Council holds their meetings. Across from these apartments is the Sheriff's Office and where Abraham and his deputies work day and night to protect their citizens.

REDLIGHT - Redlight is the aptly named nightlife district where a decent amount of the population consists of supernatural beings. This is where most of the supernaturals who hold disdain for humanity remain. It is far from a hospitable area however, with graffiti and grime coating this area of New York City and is the main problem area of the Occult's Sheriff Office.

Strip clubs, bars, casinos and every other vice indulgent businesses are found here. The Ambroses and The Rosewell families' supernatural enforcers discreetly fight over influence in the shadows of Redlight. Crimes of all degrees are rampant and humans and non-humans alike are caught in the current.

Most Supernaturals here live in poverish conditions while the two major vampire bloodlines waging war live in private mansions far from turbulent and morally bankrupt district. While the neighborhood is a violent area humanity remains relatively oblivious to the majority of the horrors that are committed in Redlight. Rumor has it that local law enforcement/government has been paid by the families to turn the other way and that's why it has become the cesspool that it is.

ABOUT BEAR
HEY HELLO WELCOME TO MY THREAD. ♡

I'm typically called Bear but if you can think of somewhere else to go with 'BearEnthusiast' then go right on ahead. I've been needing a little bit more onexone roleplays in my life as of late and this thread is gonna fix that. I'm still a bluestar but I've been roleplaying for seven years now and over that time I've grown rather decent at it. I'm upfront with what I like and dislike in my roleplays and thrive on communication!
  • I'm mainly looking for straight-up onexones! If we happen to be in the same age group and I find that our characters really mesh well I'm fine with writing Bluestar as well. With that said, I always prioritize writing a good story/relationship before I ever get to writing smut however.
  • I play both genders.
  • I'm comfortable playing most genres but I'm not the biggest fan of anime.
  • I can play historical - scifi and most things between.
  • I'm a sucker for long drawn out/slow burn romances.
  • I'm rather adaptable when it comes to post length. I can comfortably shift from 4-5 paragraphs to just 1 depending on the situation/your preference. I don't do one liners at all though!
  • So long as you give me enough to work with I promise do the same!
  • I can usually post at least once a day. I have a tendency to match my partner in posting speeds however. If you take a week to reply I'll take around six days. If you replied within a few hours after mine I'll aim to do the same.
  • English is my first language but I'm currently in the middle of learning another one + an additional dialect so I totally understand the occasional grammatical mistake.
  • TALK TO ME. We don't have to be BFFs or anything like that but I'm quite friendly and available through PMs as well as Discord. I love plotting with those I write with so lets really collaborate together on a story. ♡
