I'm sure most of you are familiar with the nursery rhyme
The premise is simple; we keep coming up with verses for the song in this format
Player 1: Hush little baby, don't say a word, papa's gonna buy you a mockingbird, and if that mockingbird don't sing...
Player 2: Papa's gonna buy you a diamond ring, and if that diamond ring don't shine...
etcetera, except, of course, we're going to have to come up with off-book rhymes to keep going! Basically, for each post, look at the last word, the next thing Papa's going to buy must rhyme with that word, and then you add a condition for the next person to rhyme to (ie: if that diamond ring don't SHINE, papa's gonna buy you a silver MINE)
I'll start with the verse tradition dictates, you can respond with the diamond ring if you want, but let's try to be creative!
Hush little baby, don't say a word, Papa's gonna buy you a mockingbird
And if that mockingbird won't SING...
Hush little baby, don't say a word
Papa's gonna buy you a mockingbird
And if that mockingbird don't sing
Papa's gonna buy you a diamond ring
And if that diamond ring don't shine
Papa's gonna buy you a silver mine
etcetera etcetera. I think there's a traditional ending for this song, but I always learned it as potentially infinite, you keep going until you run out of rhymes. So I thought, what a great game for a forum!Papa's gonna buy you a mockingbird
And if that mockingbird don't sing
Papa's gonna buy you a diamond ring
And if that diamond ring don't shine
Papa's gonna buy you a silver mine
