I'm sure most of you are familiar with the nursery rhyme

Hush little baby, don't say a word
Papa's gonna buy you a mockingbird
And if that mockingbird don't sing
Papa's gonna buy you a diamond ring
And if that diamond ring don't shine
Papa's gonna buy you a silver mine

etcetera etcetera. I think there's a traditional ending for this song, but I always learned it as potentially infinite, you keep going until you run out of rhymes. So I thought, what a great game for a forum!

The premise is simple; we keep coming up with verses for the song in this format

Player 1: Hush little baby, don't say a word, papa's gonna buy you a mockingbird, and if that mockingbird don't sing...

Player 2: Papa's gonna buy you a diamond ring, and if that diamond ring don't shine...

etcetera, except, of course, we're going to have to come up with off-book rhymes to keep going! Basically, for each post, look at the last word, the next thing Papa's going to buy must rhyme with that word, and then you add a condition for the next person to rhyme to (ie: if that diamond ring don't SHINE, papa's gonna buy you a silver MINE)

I'll start with the verse tradition dictates, you can respond with the diamond ring if you want, but let's try to be creative!

Hush little baby, don't say a word, Papa's gonna buy you a mockingbird
And if that mockingbird won't SING...

Papa's gonna buy you a silver wing, and if that silver wing won't fly...

Papa's gonna buy you an apple pie.
And if the apple pie should be sour . . .

Papa's gonna buy you a flower.
And it the flower doesn't bloom...

Papa's going to give you the moon.
And if that moon should shatter...

Papa's gonna buy you some cookie batter
And if that cookie batter ain't sweet...

Papa's gonna buy you a field of wheat
And if that field of wheat won't grow...

Papa's gonna buy you a spinning wheel
And if that spinning wheel won't sew...

Papa's gonna buy you a ball to throw.
And if that ball should be lost . . .

Papa's gonna buy you a Jack o'Frost
And if this frost would ever melt...

Papa's gonna buy you another thirty. (What? Almost nothing rhymes with dirty. >_>)
And if those pelts cannot be found...

Papa's gonna buy you a plot of ground.
And if the ground should all wash away . . .

Papa's gonna buy you a winter sleigh.
And if that winter sleigh should break...

Papa's gonna beat up annoying people who mess up this game with words without rhymes >=C
*ahem*
And if those people keep on going...
