History: A long time ago, Argyle Therein was a name to be remembered. In the secret echelons of the smithing guilds, he was known as the Thunder Key – for it was he that underpinned most of the lightning elemental enchantments that exist in dwarven culture today. As a child, he exhibited the same intellect all smiths did, his curiosity for the ancient Magicks that empower metal, stone, and amber all but unrivalled.
When the artefact fell, the gods, unable to venture to the mortal realm themselves, instead began to manipulate their worshippers to fight a secret war within a war. As the high smith of King Terȃin, Argyle was a prime target to be manipulated, coerced, and controlled. Loki, eternally jealous of Thor's place a top the dwarven pantheon, saw Argyle's reverence of lightning as a way to truly hurt Thor where weapons and battlegrounds could not; he could steal the old god's pride, and gain a valuable ally in the process, should the artefact ever require to be made anew in Loki's image.
After three decades of manipulation, Argyle snapped, and threw down the idol of Thor in his workshop. Considered deranged by his kin, he was expelled from the kingdom, and sent to the lesser king's whim. Though his increasing inability to hold a coherent conversation and tendency to drink causes him to clash constantly with his brethren, there is no denying the man's use on the expedition to examine the star metal. Whatever fell from the sky, Argyle will know; he will smash it apart or carve runes of edifice and containment onto it, claiming it before the humans or elves ever learn its name.
If, of course, Loki's plans to favour the dwarves' prosperity are as clear cut as they seem…
Skills: Dwarves, unlike other races, tend to specialise in a smaller number of skills, but to a greater degree of proficiency. Centuries in the making, Argyle has all but mastered the use of runes of lightning and smithing, and tempered his battle arm with an unnerving fervour against orc skull and wyvern scale. Suffice to say, although he has great knowledge of the skills outlined below, he lacks development with other things many elves and humans would consider trifling.
Master Smith: Argyle can, given the time, and the resources, make rigid, well-made armour out of iron, steel, mithril, leather, dragon steel, and crucially, star metal. He can only make armour for dwarves, and a lesser extent, for humans. His knowledge of elven smithing is minimal at best, for they use magic lost to the dwarves, and fold their ores in ways the dwarves consider blasphemous to the lava deities and fire spirits.
Repairer: Argyle can hammer, tong, and temper armour damaged in battle. He will require the resources to do so, and the time, but his speed is much quicker than most. They say a man or dwarf who can throw his own weight in the tip of a hammer can batter out any kinks in any armour; Argyle can throw twice that…
Hammer Proficiency: Argyle's an adept warrior with his smithing hammer. He can block, parry, and counterweight with it, and is not averse to wielding it with a small round shield, should his other hand be free. He can defend himself; though more experienced foes will easily outwit him in terms of combat skill.
Abilities: Argyle's primary ability, enhanced further still by Loki's boon and curse, is the talent of enchantment. Unlike other races, who can wield magic freely, the dwarves must bind the ether into runes, and place it on artefacts and hammers and shields. The runes can be commanded to trigger, or simply do so when requirements are met – such enchantments can last for centuries, though the things they enchant often break or decay long before then. Any weapon or item may only ever have one rune placed upon it.
Rune of Smiting: The Rune of Smiting is a simple cross, with four small dots at the end of each of the bars. When placed on a blunt weapon, it will cause the shaft to crackle with lightning, and the weapon to hit with X2 strength on its next successful swing.
Rune of the Storm: The Rune of the Storm conjures a storm of lightning around a blade, pole, or hammer's tip. This causes any injuries inflicted to linger, and can be used to deflect arrows and other metallic projectiles (the enchanted item becomes magnetic for a brief while).
Rune of the Moon: The Rune of the Moon creates natural light, as if the enchanted item were a white torch.
Rune of the Sun: The Rune of the Sun creates a source of heat, equivalent to a stoic fire.

Galni: a heavy battle hammer made of steel, laced with agate (enhances lightning runes).
