Fire Emblem: Tides of War

Paying attention to the thread, considering options. I was probably going to pitch a kitsune and a dark mage. I was also debating a possible spear fighter but considering he would be related to the dark mage (a runaway, allegedly kidnapped) I was considering pitching him as a boss encounter.
Those would be appreciated. The spear fighter could meet his dark mage brother/sister/relative in battle and be distraught. Afterwards, we could recruit the dark mage.

Done. I figured I didn't want to cover the possible lifespan of a manakete's backstory. Rather just bring in character when Hugh finds a scenario with a story to relate.
Accepted! And that was very wise thinking on your part!

Gender/Sex:
Male

Species:
Kitsune

Orientation:
Pansexual

APPEARANCE
XTr9inp.png
Clothing/Armor Style:

"Why wear clothes if it isn't comfortable? I'd be naked if I could be!"

Takeda likes loose garments that allow him to move freely without restraint; he's taken a fancy to robes in particular, with big billowing sleeves and long drapes of fabric. He prefers plain, muted colors for his field of work, but he harbors a secret appreciation for beautiful formal-wear, although he feels it would attract too much attention to outfit himself so elaborately during a regular day, he will dress up in decorative attire for fun in his spare time -- you could call it a guilty pleasure.

PERSONAL INFORMATION

Personality:

"What am I doing in a war-zone, you ask? Why, I am a collector of lost goods! Fallen soldiers don't need their weapons anymore, right? So here I am to take them!"

On the surface, Takeda comes across as a greedy creep, concerned only with what he can gain from the misfortune of others. He clearly has no qualms about scavenging from the freshly dead, looting left over belongings from ruined villages and war-torn towns, and if he gets an eye-full of anything he thinks isn't being put to good use, his itchy fingers might be tempted to remove what he believes won't be missed. There are even times when he takes an interest in something that the owner is still attached to, and in such cases he's been known to pester people about it until they either turn hostile, or they give up and give it to him for free or through trade to make him go away. What many don't know about him is that all of his annoyances are actually for the sake of charity -- he likes to give these things he collects to people who might need them more; when he harasses someone for their half-finished food, it's only so he can share the scraps with someone else who is hungry; and when it seems he is simply reselling stolen armor and weapons to line his own pockets with gold, he uses that money instead to get gifts and necessities for his friends before he buys anything for himself. He doesn't feel the need to flaunt his good deeds though, so he rarely gets thanked for what he does, but that lack of recognition doesn't seem to bother him too much, thus the misconceptions about his behavior continue to persist without correction.

While he might not be the sharpest sword in the shop, Takeda is a bit smarter than he likes to let on; he tends to act like an impulsive fool on purpose to get people to let their guard down and be at ease around him. He tries his best to conceal the fact that he is really quite sensitive to mean-spirited behavior by hiding behind an unfaltering smile if he can help it, but the truth is that he gets his feelings hurt very easily and very often -- it's a lot harder for him to keep the illusion together if he is ridiculed by someone he considers a friend, even if he is aware it is only a one-sided relationship. On a bad day he will break down and cry without caring what anyone else thinks of his weakness. Most men would turn to anger in their times of crisis; Takeda will turn to tears. However, interestingly enough, witnessing a death does not normally affect him in any significant degree, not nearly the way it would affect a human. He might miss the person who has passed away, but Takeda is content to tell himself that they are at peace rather than obsessing selfishly over their loss. Life and death are a natural cycle he does not believe to be unfair in any measure. In his opinion, people die no matter their deeds -- good or bad -- everyone has the right to fight for their survival as per the law of nature. So although it may seem that Takeda prefers the path of peace, when he is inevitably faced with a physical confrontation, he enjoys the challenge and the chance to pounce on an opponent who he won't feel bad about killing.

Likes:
-Hugs
-Giving gifts
-Discovering lost or discarded stuff

Dislikes:
-Being wasteful
-Unhelpful people
-Disorganized things

Fears:
-Having his generosity used against him
-Accidentally giving an item of immense power to the wrong person

BIOGRAPHY

"If you're expecting a tragic tale, I'm afraid I have none to tell. I was always a happy kit my whole life, and that is precisely why I want to lend a hand in this war -- to make sure that happiness remains unspoiled."

Ever since he was small, Takeda wanted to see and explore the far reaches of the world he was born into. He wanted to know the scent of every flower he could find, the unique taste of every insect he could catch, the feel of every type of terrain he could place the pads of his feet upon. When he was old enough to leave his mother's side, he went in search of old ruins where he would hold a game of hide-and-seek with his siblings. When he was older still, he was allowed to visit ancient shrines where he paid his respect to the spirits and was free to frolic alongside them in their forests. These were the places where it was safe to play, far from the population of humankind. Yet as Takeda grew into adulthood, he wondered what humans were really like. He'd been told conflicting stories of how they gave great belly rubs, but were too unpredictable and dangerous to approach. Some kitsune had gone out and made friends with the human people, while others were hunted -- their entire tribe killed -- just for their stylish fur.

As fate would have it, his first encounter with a human went exactly as the stories had warned him. Four men at the edge of the mountain were tracking a wild animal into kitsune territory. He was sure they had no idea about the boundary, but still, they were hunters and they had lost their target, only to stumble upon a much more profitable one sitting alone in a clearing like an idiot. That idiot, of course, would be Takeda... not taking the threat of encroaching poachers seriously, he sat out in the sun making a flower crown in the field nearby. When he saw them, he was quite surprised, as were they to see him in return. He could tell they were not malicious men, but they had families to feed and hunting was how they got their meat and money to sustain themselves. So Takeda decided to make them a deal. He asked them, quite innocently, if they were trying to find the lost treasure their kind had left lying around there. The hunters were hesitant to answer, until he got up and pulled the odd relic out from his pocket, asking them again if they wanted to take it back to where it belonged. To Takeda the thing held no value, but to these hunters who could trade it for precious gold, they were very thankful for the kitsune's cooperation. No longer did they care to consider the potential price of his bushy tail when they had their hands on something way better. Takeda continued to treat them with intentional naivete until a friendly relationship had been established between them. The hunters did not want to hurt someone that had helped them out so willingly and without reward. Humans weren't so bad, as long as you gave them things that they liked.

Shortly after that enlightening experience, Takeda took to traveling the countryside as a peddler of curious wares. He wanted to see what was beyond the safety of kitsune territory, and now that he had a method to appease the sometimes hostile human people who populated most of the land he needed to pass through, he began collecting all sorts of odds and ends that he knew humans were eager to own. During his journey he traded with fellow merchants, made money from rich folk with poor tastes in decor, gave gifts freely to friends he made along the way, and donated a portion of his funds to the less fortunate.

Life was good... until recent events led to an alarming increase in scavenging opportunities. Takeda started coming across one too many ghost-towns, abandoned farms and ravaged villages. Sometimes he would see dead soldiers littered around the site of an impromptu battle that'd taken place merely weeks before he arrived there. A war was beginning to brew. This was not something that would remain between humans -- every living creature in the kingdom of Zephyr would be effected by the event one way or another. Takeda would not let this land be ruined by violence if he could help it, and just maybe if he aided the war effort on behalf of his kin, humankind might remember that the kitsune were their allies.

I got inspired to make this kitsune first. I'm still working on the maid, but I might have a change of heart and make her into something else if I get a different idea. I've just got too many characters in mind to settle on what I want the most. :(

@-Vesper-
He's absolutely adorable. I like him a lot.

But his personality seems to be centering a lot around only one, or a few traits. Can I see some more of his personality? Is he impatient? Does he have ambitions for the future? How is his work ethic? Etc. I don't want you to explain his entire character detail by detail, but a bit more being added onto his personality would be nice. It is a nice, long paragraph, but I want to see other traits of his.

Name: Lumaana
Gender: Female
Species: Human
Age: 19
Birthday: January 16
Orientation: Questioning

Appearance

Clothing/Armor Style: Dusty robes, loose fitting and ideal for moving around, as well as to avoid recognition

Personal Information
Personality: Is usually calm, collected, and comes off as very intelligent and well-read. However, she has a hair-trigger temper when it comes to witnessing injustice, and will rapidly throw herself with either force of will, force of words, or even fisticuffs to correct wrongs she may see. She can come up with a solid plan, but oftentimes she changes her mind and rolls with punches. Harsh life in Terbhar has made her wise beyond her years, though she still carries hope for better things. Is somewhat awkward in social interactions and can come off as stiff and tilted, but tries her best.

Likes:
1. Rice. A chief proponent of the superior food item, she will oftentimes sing its praises and work it into every meal. She also like other grains, but rice is aces.

2. Puns. Lumaana isn't a particular humourous person, but enjoys wordplay. Naturally, the pun is the highest form of humour. If people don't laugh, it's usually because they aren't half as smart as she is.

3. Fun Facts. An easy way to demonstrate her knowledge is useless trivia, which she tries to bring up as a sort of bonding exercise.

Dislikes:
1. Misogyny. At the top of her list of social justice peeves. Terbhar women are often raised to be docile and submissive to men, an ideology she has fiercely rejected. Any suggestion for her to stand back and watch will be met with hostility.

2. Dance. She feels awkward and clumsy when she's doing it, and doesn't like being stared at. If she's being dragged along, she'll probably do a bit of jumping to get them to back off

3. Tasteless food. She's found Zephyr food to be less than outstanding, compared to the intense spiciness she's used to. She tends to carry her own seasonings with her

Fears:

1. Being followed
2. Her home raided and in shambles
3. Her stupid brother getting himself killed

Biography
Lumaana hails from Terbhar, a desert region that has fallen under the sphere of the kingdom of Ignis. The elites of Terbhar negotiated an uneasy agreement, granting concessions to Ignis to move in while maintaining some degree of autonomy. Terbhar is nominally an ally of Ignis, but in practice is a satellite that has bowed to superior power.

Terbhar nowadays is predominantly a hub for harsh labour camps, as the nearby mountains are an excellent source of rare metals, useful for weaponry and even magical components. Harsh labour was primarily subjected to the men, leaving the women to maintain derelict homesteads. In these circumstances, the women are often left unprotected, and easy targets for bandits and attacks from desperate mongrels and proud foreign soldiers.

Lumaana was lucky enough to be among the wealthier, noble families as prominent archaeologists and historians, but their fortunes reversed quickly as their assets were seized by Ignis invaders. Her older brother, an exemption from the enforce labour laws as a Terbhar noble, organized a citizen protection force, often patrolling to protect citizens. Emboldened by his example, she would jump into the fray to help as best she could. Battered, she bears the scars of her victories.

She was placed under house arrest by her brother, and though she tried to pass the time by feverishly consuming literature, she found herself unable to stand by while attrocities were outside her doorstep. She frequently escaped, brought back, only to escape and be brought back again. This cycle persisted, much to the chagrin of her older brother.

She overheard talk of locking her up for good in a dungeon, and decided it was time to disappear, fed up with her brother's idleness. She gathered supplies and coin and, under the cover of night, escaped the outposts and out into the desert. She eventually found her way to Zephyr. Her keen intellect served her well as an appraiser of sorts, but as the war continues to escalate, she has tuned her abilities and seeks to give Ignis a black eye.

Basic Info

Name: Rowan//Mala

Gender/Sex: Male//Female

Species: Human//Manakete

Age: 26//214, looks like a teenager

Birthday: November 12//August 3

Orientation: Straight//Bisexual

Appearance:

Clothing/Armor Style: Rowan's armor [Partially shown in image] is primarily comprised of a strong and fairly flexible brown leather, but also includes a small iron chest plate, elbow and knee joints, a single shoulder pauldron and an iron gauntlet. He also wears thick leather boots and a pair of leather gloves, which cover up about half-way to the elbow. Outside of battle, he dons the same boots along with very simple attire, consisting of beige breeches and mostly green, white or brown shirts. Around his neck seemingly at all times is a silver chain, attached to which is a small green dragonstone.

Much to Rowan's disdain, Mala refuses to wear any sort of armor, the most protective thing on her being two gold bangles worn on her wrists. Instead, she goes into combat in the same sort of clothing she'd wear on a trip into town. She usually prefers simple clothing similar to her partner's, but will wear dresses from time to time on a whim.

Personal Information

Personality: Both Rowan and Mala are friendly and generous people who would gladly lay down their lives for the sake of another, though the both of them are so fiercely protective of eachother that they'd never allow it to come to that. Rowan is an open romantic who strongly believes in honor and justice, driven by a lifelong desire to be a hero like the ones in old stories. He is excitable and impatient, often quite reckless. He tends to treat Mala as though she were his younger sister, even knowing just how much older than him that she is. She hates it and he knows it, and that just makes him want to do it more.

Mala is a very sweet and warm-hearted girl, clinging to the belief that most people are good-natured despite seeing first-hand just how capable many are of being cruel. Not to say that she is completely naive, she does understand that some are rotten to the core and won't go out of her way to try to change someone who is beyond changing. She is generally cheerful and optimistic, but will make no effort to hide it if her mood goes sour. For the most part, a bad day for her means a bad day for everyone around her. Mala can be quite playful and often enjoys teasing those she's closest to, though she does know when to lay off and when to apologize. It's hard to get mad at her though, at least as far as Rowan is concerned, and she sometimes tends to be a little more harsh toward him because of that fact.

Likes: Rowan likes to explore and see the sights, enjoys reading or listening to stories of heroism and loves to spar. Mala likes flying around on the back of Rowan's wyvern, listening to musicians play and meeting new people.

Dislikes: Rowan dislikes underhanded tactics, politics and slimy foods like oysters. The things Mala hates most are being ignored or left behind, being confined to small spaces and not knowing whats going on.

Fears: A couple of Rowan's greatest fears are of the paranormal [Ghosts and such] and sensory deprivation. Mala fears being lost in a crowd or someplace she's unfamiliar, as well as deep bodies of water and whatever might lurk beneath. Above all else, both of them fear losing eachother.

Biography:
Rowan took to the adventuring life early on, seduced by the prospect of becoming a hero when he was a child. He'd often go out wandering the areas around his home, pretending to slay beasts and evil soldiers along with his trusty companion, one of the young wyverns that his father bred for a living. Once the aforementioned wyvern had matured enough, he convinced his father to teach him how to ride and shortly after he'd seek out a trainer to teach him mounted and ground-based combat in secret. Though his training hadn't yet been completed, he could wait no longer to set out into the world once he'd grown confident in his ability to take care of himself and his partner.

Mala lived most of her life as a nomad due to her mother's fear of growing too comfortable around the people they'd sometimes meet. The woman had already experienced heartbreak more than once, having lost friends and even a lover, little Mala's father, to time. Though she enjoyed seeing the world, Mala was displeased with the distance her mother placed between them and everyone else. At age 203, she snuck off to go live her life the way that she wanted to, embracing others rather than avoiding them. Unfortunately for her, the dangers of travelling alone quickly caught up to her.

Mere weeks after beginning his travels, Rowan stumbled upon a scene that would scar him for life. Flames dancing around a blood soaked section of open road, several bodies charred and torn. At the center of it all, a young girl, probably about the same age as Rowan from the looks of it. Though seemingly untouched by the fire all around, she looked to be grievously injured or worse. He stood frozen in shock for several minutes, only snapping out of it when his partner nudged him with her snout. That's when he noticed the girl's labored gasps for breath. Without another thought he braved the flames and carried her back to his wyvern, holding her close to his chest as they set off to seek medical attention.

Mala remembered briefly waking once to see scenery passing by in a blur, then the panicked face of a boy looming just above her. It had been the same face of the boy sitting at her bedside when she recovered enough to hold consciousness, and after the initial shock had worn off she quickly connected the dots. He had rescued her when she'd have surely perished. She still might, she'd thought then, and as thanks for at least trying to help she gave him the dragonstone her mother had given her in her adolescence.

When in fact she did not pass away and instead recovered, Mala had made up her mind to accompany the young man who had stayed by her side throughout the healing process. Rowan himself was more than happy to have her come along, just as glad for the company as she was. She'd still be moving from place to place, but she didn't mind that so long as she didn't have to distance herself from others. When they first began to travel together, Mala had considered asking Rowan to give her dragonstone back to her in order to help him in combat, but ultimately decided to let him keep it and turned her focus to keeping him and his wyvern in working order.

Nine years have passed since then, and now the two have grown comfortable living as adventurers and fighting evil wherever it should rear its ugly head. For the most part that just meant staving off bandits and vicious wolves wherever they went, but occasionally they'd be tasked with something a little more interesting. Like now, for example; They were headed overseas to help defend a peaceful nation against the ravages of war. War. For a guy whose desire to be a hero followed him into adulthood, this was something Rowan couldn't resist if he tried. Mala was excited by this particular job as well, though much more for the prospect of meeting and befriending new people. She was thankful for the friends she had made along with her partner during their travels, but she'd often heard that a bond formed on the field of battle was one that could never be broken.

Sure thing! Admittedly, I was mostly imagining him in FE support conversation kind of situations, hence he came out sounding more like a caricature of his comical habits lol

I'll see what else I can come up with while I work on my other character as well.

@Panne
I added another paragraph to Takeda's personality section; let me know if I need to add more.

@Panne - Just finished up my character sheet. I would have finished it earlier today, but my bestbro got a new side-scrolling brawler with local co-op and that took a good chunk out of my day. Lemme know if I need to change anything at all.

Excellent. Glad you liked how I put it together. Looking forward to the war-time fun.

By the way, does this sentence look alright? It seems a little off to me, but I'd like a second opinion.

"He stood frozen in shock for several minutes, only snapping out of it when his partner nudged him with her snout and noticing the girl's labored gasps for breath."

the "and noticing" part is a bit off. It sounds clunky. Maybe make it into a different sentence entirely?

That's kinda what I was thinking, just wasn't sure if it was just me. I'll take another look at it in a bit, 'bout to go grill now though.

Also somebody liked my CS whee.

"He stood frozen in shock for several minutes, only snapping out of it when his partner nudged him with her snout. That's when he noticed the girl's labored breathing, though only just barely."

That sounds a little better, yeah?

It's a bit better!

But instead of "just only barely" put "though, it was only slight"?

Honestly I think it looks better just as "That's when he noticed her labored breathing" by itself, now that I look at it again. Thank you for helping me fix this, it would have driven me nuts lol.
