Jamal returned the small smile to Terra throughout her speech, eyes softening the more she spoke of the gratitude and comfort she took from staying with them, occasionally dipping his head slightly in acknowledgement. At her closing question, he shook his head in the negative. It was understandable that Kiki would not know of Marley yet, seeing as how she had only been with them for little less than a week, but Adint was a different case. From time to time, the neko-gone-human would be mentioned or referred to in a fleeting comment, leaving a vague impression on who he truly was and what he did for a living. On the off chance that he came to stop by, the other make neko was usually sleeping, out of the house or the visitations were so brief that he never got a real chance to see him. "No more than you do," he answered after a moments thought. In answer to Kiki, he added, "He's a close friend of mind who sets up houses, like this one, for other nekos." He took another sip of his tea, watching the others over the rim of his cup before setting it down precariously on the arm rest beside him, mindful that it didn't become off balance and tip.

Kiki nodded as she thought about what he'd said. "Isn't that dangerous for him?" She asked worriedly. "Even if he's human, getting caught setting up safe havens for nekos is a harsh punishment." She tugged gently on one of her ears as she thought. "And if he's a neko, it would be even worse." She turned to look at Jamal. "I respect his bravery."

fang slowly begins to get up holding his side. This is what i deserve for trying to protect a neko. looks down i still have to find that one and apologize for what i did. but first i have to patch myself up.

"Thank you," he said sincerely, in answer to the young female's declaration of respect. He was glad that she approved of his friend, and it did mean much to him that others, outside of the circle of those who ran the houses, approved of the man in general. "It is, and we have on several rare occasions, been found out. Little and far between, but it has happened. The authorities have never linked the events as definitely coming from the same person though, seeing as how he has his own methods of going undetected. Since those times, he's come up with different ways of allowing the houses to slide beneath the radars for the time being." Some of which included the splitting up of the estates across a wide expanse of land, or singled out apartments that would go unnoticed amongst the majority of the other living quarters, and the maximums that were set on each house. If a max was reached and a new neko was in need of care, they would be brought to the nearest safehouse that wasn't too full, in order to accommodate them.

is clutching side. this is bad i need to get first aid but i have no money for a doctor. sits down on the curb and takes off sweat shirt. rips the sweatshirt into a make shift bandage on his side.

Kiki bowed her head a bit as she thought. A lot had happened today, with the death and burial of Adint's friend and this new information. The day was quickly catching up with her. Kiki glanced around, then looked down at the luke-warm tea in her hands. "I'm going to go get a fresh cup." She said quietly as she stood. When she walked into the kitchen, there was a moment of silence followed by a shriek and the sound of breaking glass. A huge rat fled out of the kitchen and across the living room floor. "Sorry!" Kiki wailed from the kitchen as she carefully started to clean up the broken cup.

Adint stood up, hearing the glass break and rushing over to Kiki, getting the broom and dust pan, noticing how big the rat was he shook a little bit, and popped out what little of his claw's he had, going for the rat, as it scurried away and then out of sight. Adint shook his head, since he hadn't caught the cursed rat. He looked over to Kiki though, and got beside her to help, "Don't worry ... anyone would be scared of those things ..." he wgispered softly wanting to make her feel at least somewhat ok.

She shook her head as she continued cleaning up the glass. "I'm being silly." She said with a shaky chuckle. "I mean, it's just a rat, right?" She sighed and carefully dumped the broken glass. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to break your cup."

Adint looked at her softly and put an arm on her shoulder, giving a soft smile, though his eyes still portrayed seriousness, "You should get some rest ..." he said softly, "I'll try and find the rat tomarrow ... and buy a new glass for Jamal ... deal?"

A sudden crash from the kitchen snapped Jamal's attention out of its dreamy state, immediately half raising himself from his chair in concern before Adint beat him to the girl's side, already passing the threshold to the opposite room. He relaxed a little and started to lower himself back down in the chair, confident that he could handle whatever had happened, when the cause of the scream, one of the rats, fled the kitchen out into the living room. Like a black blur, it ran for the conjoining hallway that led to the bathroom, bedroom and storage closet as rapidly as he could jump to his feet and intercept this predicted destination, using his body to block the hall. His tail twitched and he bent down slightly, ready to pounce on the rodent at the first sign of hesitation on its part. His sudden movements evidently startled the creature some, its thick, black coat of fur rising several inches above its large body in warning towards him, but it didn't pause as it deviated from the path it seemed to have chosen just moments before. Much to the male neko's dismay, it made a beeline for his recliner instead. Within a second, it had gnawed through the thin material that protected the interior of his sleeping place and by the next, it was squeezing its fat stomach through the hole. Jamal sighed and straightened himself, returning Kiki's 'good night' with one of his own as she passed him to reach her room.

His broken chair did not seem so inviting now, knowing that one of those things was scurrying just beneath the surface. Probably eating the aged stuffing and building tunnels to live in. It could simply spring up out of the seat whenever it pleased as well, and the idea of it doing so as he rested was not a pleasant thought. He frowned and used the back of his hand to stifle a yawn, one eye closing as he did so. It would have to wait until the morning though before he started trying to scare the thing out. If he did so now, it would just be on the loose, going who knows where and doing who knows what, while they slept ignorant to if it was crawling across their flesh. At least now they knew that there was one less rat who's whereabouts were completely unknown, if that was really much comfort at all. Jamal retrieved his tea cup, careful not to touch the recliner, and went to see if Terra had finished her own drink yet, crouching down beside her as he either waited for her to finish or for her to give him permission to take her cup for her.

Terra stared with wide eyes and hissed a few times as the rat previously in the kitchen scurried around the living room only to burrow itself in Jamal's recliner and bed. She sighed. Where would he sleep now?
"Goodnight Kiki. Sweet dreams." Terra wished the girl well, especially since her last night here hadn't been so pleasant. With the rats around and her fear of them, hopefully she wouldn't have nightmares, or worse, actual rats in her room as she slept. Jamal crouched beside Terra's seat on the couch and of course, she had been told not to complain about not being able to contribute, so she simply passed her mostly empty mug to Jamal. The last bit was cold because she'd waited too long while her ears twitched back and forth between the kitchen and living room thanks to the rat. "Thank you." She mumbled, biting her lip to keep from apologizing for her immobility. Terra pulled the blanket around her shoulders more securely and glanced at the recliner uncertainly. "Jamal, where are you going to sleep?"

Jamal stood with both cups in hand and briefly surveyed the room for an answer to the girl's question. Where, indeed... On the off chance that they became too crowded in the past, he would normally take to the floor with a blanket or worn pillow for the night until the temporary guests had left. Instead of informing her on this though, he looked back to Terra and smiled. "I could always squeeze into the closet if I have to," he said lightly with a half shrug of submission to his own idea. Actually, that wouldn't have sounded all that bad if he was younger and a head shorter, which would make him well small enough to fit into the cramped storage place. It would certainly me warm in there, afterall. He left the room though, changing to the kitchen in order to wash the cups and hang them up on a mug tree to dry. On the way out, he spotted Adint sweeping the remnants of porcelain from the floor but, seeing as he was nearly finished, he left it to him with the smallest of nods in appreciation before re-entering the living room. Then, making as if to truly sleep in the closet by heading towards the hallway, he called a good-night to the duo over his shoulder. "Sweet dreams, Adint, Terra."

Jamal responded to Terra's question in a sort of joking manner before leaving the living room to wash the mugs for them. Terra peered into the hallway and near the bathroom, a small sort of linen closet could be seen by her violet eyes. Terra frowned. Surely he wouldn't be able to sleep comfortably there. But he's joking right? Wrong. Jamal called a goodnight to Adint in the kitchen and Terra sitting on the couch and walked toward the hallway. Terra's eyes widened suddenly and she acted on impulse before her thoughts could catch up. "Wait. You can't sleep in the closet! You can sleep here.." Terra gestured to the couch she sat on. "I mean..it looks like it has enough room..and if the rat comes after us, we can fight it off together. Two is better than one.." Terra bit her scabbed lip, nervous now. Especially since it was all her fault that the rats even showed up.
Of course she couldn't let the shelter leader and the savior of her life sleep in a tiny closet, but making up reasons why it would be better for them to sleep right up against each other made her look like she...liked him. Or something. A tiny blush rushed to her pale cheeks and her tail began to anxiously swish as she stared into his beautiful eyes, waiting for an answer.

His legs halted their seeming retreat to what would be his sleeping quarters for the night upon hearing Terra's sudden interjection, head tilting curiously in amusement as she began to give explanations for why he should not sleep in the closet, but rather next to her. It surprised him, certainly, but he really wasn't one to object if it was her own idea and she was willing to share the couch. By the time she unceremoniously finished her explanation for her suggestion, he was smiling again and held a light in his eyes similar to that of earlier that evening, although slightly altered. Jamal strode over to couch and before he could help himself, was suddenly inches away from the girl's nose, one hand leaning against the wall beside her to support his weight as he leaned down close enough to feel her breath brush across his cheeks. She was already blushing slightly, he noticed, making his heart speed up by half a second. Softly, no louder than a whisper, he asked in all seriousness, "Are you sure that would be alright with you?" His tone may have held the slight traces of warning, but he couldn't be sure, although that was certainly not his intentions should she have detected them. He didn't want to frighten the pretty, little neko but part of him wanted to tease her as well as make sure that she was firm about her offer and wouldn't back out of it later. A bit of dark pressure usually helped to enbold the line between most decisions into distinct awareness, he knew, and besides, he did enjoy getting the closer look into her perfectly amethyst eyes that this position entitled him to.

Terra let out her breath when Jamal stopped, turned and smiled. But a few moments later, she was hardly breathing again. His jewel like eyes were...so close. His felt like it was a millimeter away. Her eyes went wide and her lips felt sewed shut. He waited for a moment, and she simply stared, ears back and chest hardly moving, save for the pounding of her heart. Then he asked his question, his voice low and deep. His breath smelled like tea as he whispered, but if she was breathing around him at this distance at all, why should she keep him from sleeping on the couch with her? She could handle it..right? Her blush got deeper. her tail twitched faster and she let out a little whimper to clear her throat. A little shiver slipped down from the top of her head to the tip of her tail and her ears began to rise as her eyes switched from uncertain to ...mostly sure. She knew she didn't want him to sleep in the closet..So she nodded her head, ever so slightly, her violet eyes glued to his.

Jamal chuckled inwardly as he watched the younger girl's cheeks color a deeper shade of red and felt her tail swishing faster in time with her increasing heart beat. Yet, interestingly enough, her eyes remained confidently locked onto his and her ears raised in determination when she gave him the smallest of nods in confirmation. She may not be feisty but she was certainly fiery and seemed to fear little, from what experience he had with her, helping to pique his curiosity and want to learn more. He managed to retain his manner of solemness though, despite the smallest of smiles that pulled at the corner of his mouth as he dipped his head in consent to her nod. "As you wish, Terra," he murmured softly, finally breaking his gaze in order to lie down on his side beside her. It would be difficult, not to mention most likely painful, for him to try and shift her slightly so that he could lay on his back, and he really didn't mind the feeling of almost falling; it would just help to keep him alert throughout the night, so he left her be. One arm was stretched out straight beneath his head to act as a makeshift cushion of sorts, while the other was splayed easily across his waist and stomach. Wish a quiet sigh, he shut his eyes until only the thinnest of slits remained open, nearly invisible in the growing darkness. Something told him though that Terra wasn't about to fall asleep so easily as he made it appear, and rested the hand of the arm he lied upon lightly atop her head, his own tail coming around sneakily to entwine itself with her restless one. "Breathe," he reminded her gently, secretly watching her from behind his seemingly closed eyes.

A small smile curled onto his lips as he unintentionally quoted one of her favorite books...The Princess Bride. Then he tore his gaze away from her eyes and shifted to lie beside her, too close to the edge. Her tail was still twitching and her breaths came way too quickly and shallowly as the dark continued to encroach upon them. His body was warm beside hers and she liked the feel of his fingertips in her hair accompanied by his tail around hers. He reminded her to breathe with his eyes closed. Hers remained wide open as she fidgeted beneath the blanket, slowly moving closer to the back of the couch--not without wincing-- so he'd have more room beside her small body. Then she did as she was told, taking as deep a breath as she could without hurting herself further. Her tail tightened around his because her heart was still pounding and her body was still tense. She could hardly feel his fingers on her head at all because she'd moved away. Terra didn't dare close her eyes.

Watching her curiously while still relaxing his expression into that of a dozing pacifist was quite the odd feeling, and one that could not be held in check much longer with her squirming. She was doing so for his benefit, he knew, and sighed softly as she pulled just out of reach of his pinned arm. Her heart was almost audible in the growing silence, making him all the more aware of her consciousness until he opened his eyes slowly like a cat having been woken from a peaceful, though rather dull nap. Her eyes were bright and shining, almost startling him into a small jump, but not quite. Jamal's eyes became half-lidded and he pushed himself up more onto the couch in show of appreciation to her moving, not wanting to waste her kindness, to the point that he was pressed faintly against her body in such a way that it would not be overbearing on the young woman. She was almost completely enveloped between his body and the shadow he cast. His palm was soon reunited with her hair and began to run soothingly through the kinks of her dark locks, untangling them as he went whenever they weren't too knotted. "What's wrong?" he asked worriedly in a hushed tone of the night, eyes searching hers questionably. He hesitated for but a moment before lifting his free hand and tenderly wrapping it around her waist in an almost protective fashion, careful to avoid applying pressure to her ribs as he did so. It was just... she was so small... Part of him was petrified that she would break at the gentlest of touches, while a firmer side of him argued that she was quite able-bodied, even with her limited movements.
