Laudius looked at the sheet of paper he had been handed. He recognized the street the address belonged to, and it was surprisingly downscale from what he had expected to be given from a academic. Still better than where he was, but not by much.
"I work wherever my boss tells me to, usually on the eastern side."
Laudius set the paper down and put his boots off to the side before turning on a single lamp. The inside lacked almost any kind of furnishing. There was a simple bed across the room, just barely large enough for one person, a corner where the sink lay, and off to the right was the only other door, with a large basin next to it.
"Listen girl--Cyrene--I appreciate the thought, but if I had the money to visit a restaurant, I wouldn't be living like this."
