An unusual meeting in Duskvol

"I don't usually drink this heavily--never had the time or funds to do so."
Laudius was definitely saying things that he normally would have kept to himself still. Perhaps stranger was the fact that he didn't seem to notice the fact he was saying and acting on impulses that would normally remain hidden. The glass was eyed strangely, but without even bothering to smell it, Laudius chugged the whole thing down. This was immediately followed by a coughing fit as the concoction hit him harder than a slugger.
"Blessed ones--holy crap what was in that thing? It tasted like diced up roots mixed with coffee."
The man wasn't sober, he definitely still was feeling the effects of the alcohol. But where he before had felt like he was half asleep, now he felt only like he was slightly tired. The shot had been more effective than a jolt of electoplasm in bringing his mind to bear.
"So do you normally wine your dates and then serve them this?"
The question was directed at Cyrene, perhaps a little more brash than was intended, as the shock of the drink started to wear off.
"Sorry... that came out wrong."
