An Arragement Most Foul

Annaliel could feel herself blush when Colette said she was fortunate to have Constantine. She wasn't so she sure would agree with her, luckily her sister Rebecca stepped in for her.

"Oh Yes, We're all glad that Annaliel can finally settle down, She is such a lovely flower and we all feared that she would be labled an old maid if she didn't get married soon." She said politely as she took a sip of tea.

Annaliel looked to Constantine when he asked her how she was. She glanced away a moment, looking down at the sleeping baby boy in her arms. Her sister's where keeping Colette busy with chatting.

"I am well, I hope you are as well?" She asked softly as she looked back up at him.

She felt her cheeks flush again as he mentioned being in her room, Emmilia looking at her a second before looking back at Colette politely. Her sisters laughed politely at her statement and agreed that it was alright to have a moment or two, they were only human after all.

As the girls laughed blatantly, Constantine now felt nasueous. He really didn't want to look disgusting, and vomit everywhere so he got up and said, "If you will excuse me for a moment, I have to use the restroom!" He then ran off quickly across the garden and into the house.

Colette watched as he ran off, worried. What was wrong with him? But, of course, she used his sudden demise to her advantage to get Annaliel alone. She then turned towards her and said, "Oh dear....Looks like he's not doing too well! It's like his whole face was green! I don't recall him ever being suddenly sick like that before!......Poor thing.....We should go check on him, Annaliel! Me and you! I'm sure you're just as worried about Constantine as I am, right? He is your betrothed after all! Ooooh! We should go in the kitchen and fetch him some ale or something! That always has helped men whenever their sick!" She got up and motioned for Annaliel to follow. She needed to have a word or two with this annoying little pest.

Annaliel watched Constantine run off, not having expected that. Her sisters also seemed to be a little surprised as well, though they rolled with what Colette had said and agree that Annaliel should go with her. They probably didn't want to talk to her anymore, which was understandable since she seemed to dominate the conversation. Annaliel passed the sleeping baby in her arms off to her sister Rebecca and followed after Colette politely. She showed her the way to the kitchen and had a maid get some ale, leaving the two of them alone in the large kitchen. Annaliel felt a little uncertain about being with Colette alone, she gave off a vibe that she didn't like, and so far they seemed to be complete opposites. She couldn't help but wonder what it was that she wanted.

Constantine threw up in the toilet quickly and then washed his mouth in the sink as best he could. First headaches and now this! I've got to stop wracking my brain trying to figure out ways to dodge this wedding! He really wanted out, but didn't know what to do about it. Colette had said she would help him by coing over today, but he was less than doubtful that she could help at all. All she was doing was making small talk about everything else except the engagement! The young man sighed and sat on the toilet stroking his temples. What to do? What to do? He was tired of sitting down and waiting for Colette to be helpful and walked out of the restroom. He proceeded back down to the garden, but then stopped dead in his tracks at the sound of 2 females arguing in the kitchen. And it sounded like Colette.

Colette figeted with her dress for a bit as she and Annaliel stood in the large kitchen alone. "Foofoo! This dress is so scratchy and annoying! Heehee....I know something else that's annoying as well!" she said turning towards Annaliel with a scornful stare. She looked at her up and down, scoffing. "You know of what I speak. But just in case you're hearing impaired, I'll make it clearer for you! STAY. AWAY. FROM CONSTANTINE!" Colette sighed as she let her true colors show. It was so much fun being cruel. "And if you think I actually like you and your gag-worthy sisters, you're wrong! I'd actually rather lick a toilet seat before I talk with you poor people! I only came here beacause Constantine was so stressed out about his engagement with you. He knows nothing of my real intentions of coming to this hovel! He actually believed I just wanted to come to chat!....Truth be told, he deserves someone better! Someone like me! But, of course, his parents would never let that happen----they think I'm just as trashy as the next girl, but I'm no prostitute! I just know what I want and when I want it, and, in this case, it's Constantine!" She flipped back her hair before continuing with a heavy sigh, "Ohh ho hum! It's just so fun being mean! Well....Just know once and for all that I plan to marry him myself, and that you had better back off! I don't care how you do it, either! Just so long as he's mine mine mine! So there! And don't even think about crying to you sisters about this! I know you bookworm-types! Always running away to their sisters and their diaries beacause they're so incapable of speaking up for themselves! Pathetic!" As she stopped her devious banter, she waited for Annaliel's reply, tuning out the sound of Constantine calling for them in the hallway.

Constantine.jpg Colette Machird.jpg

Annaliel was completely taken by surprise by this sudden change in Colette and stayed quiet the whole time she ranted. If anyone had been watching the would think Annaliel was crying with the way her shoulders twitched, however, as she lifted her head it seemed that she was laughing out loud! Annaliel quickly calmed herself as she looked at Colette, a new personality having taken over, or so it seemed.

"I find it funny you see me as a threat. Certainly a girl of your wealth should be more confident in herself, yes? Also, I never wanted to marry him in the first place! He's a gentleman in some ways, but so far I don't see much in him as a husband or father. So please, do take him, do whatever it is you have to and marry him yourself, you'll be doing me a huge favor. But, because I have a feeling that you can't read past an elemetary level, I'll tell you something. Constantine is a flirt, and always will be, there is no woman that can deny that. And don't think a marriage will stop him from playing around behind you back. And if you say it's just for the money than you are more of a fool than I thought! Because as he finds a new pet he certainly won't spend money on you, he'll sleep with you and make you pregnant, but it won't the an exciting fling as if you were young and single. He'll only leave you with enough money to deal with the kids, leaving you to grow old, fat, and ugly while he stomps around town with another girl on his arm." She smiled a bit and let out an stereotypical giggle, mocking Colette while doing so. "Oh I must agree, being mean is fun! Now I think it would be best you head home, for you've invoked the wrong group of sister's with that tongue or yours. My sisters have connections, and even I have a few of my own, and I promies I will find every dirty little secert of your family and make sure it becomes front page news!!...Now, get out! before I have my maids throw you out the front door. Also, don't let a word of this slip to Constantine, or I will personally make sure you never marry in the whole country of England!" She said, finishing just as the maid returned with the Ale.

"Now, it's a shame you have to go, shall we go get Constantine so he can take you home?" She said sweetly in from of the maid as she held onto the glass of ale.

Colette looked at Annaliel now very angry! This bookworm sure did have a lot of spunk, much to her surprise. Shrugging all of her words off, Colette flipped back her hair and stated, "Well! Looks like you're a lot more fiesty than I expected, but no matter! This isn't over beacause just as you say Constantine will never stay with me alone, he does quite a job at winning girls over, especially girls like you!" Sighing with a smile, Colette walked over to the kitchen door, and said, "Huh! I think I'm actually beginnning to like your attitude, so I'll give you another warning. He will win you over, Annaliel. No matter how much you deny in your head and in your heart! You're going to fall for him just like the rest of us.....And, while you're threatening me that you'll expose my secrets, you better watch your tongue, prissy! The Duke of Evingsdale and the Duke of Walsberg both have more power in their pinky fingers then you Ackworths have in your entire bodies put together! How I speak to people doesn't matter beacause we of high status can do whatever we please, but you can't! In fact.....I think Duke Arelson would be very peeved if he saw your behavior just now.....I could let word slip out......Your family would be looked down upon and mocked all throughout England...The little money your family does have would be gone leaving you all dirt poor.......But, I'll keep my mouth shut! And only beacause I find intimidating you to be very fun! Now.....Let's go get Constantine, shall we?"

Colette Machird.jpg

Annaliel glared at Colette but let her have the last word, it would do her no good to prevoke the power of a duke. However she did let one last stab at the girl slip before they left the kitchen.

"Alright Colette, I'll play nice with you for now but answer me this. If the Duke of Walsberg is so powerful, why is it that I am the one marrying Constantine and you are not?" She said as she looked at the girl. "And another thing, In no way will I ever fall for that flirt of a man! He may be handsome and he may be a charmer but in my eyes those are nothing but silly little things. He will never have the quilities I seek in a husband and he will never catch my heart. That I can tell you is the truth."

She then turned away from Colette for a moment, looking down at the ale as she spoke once more.

"I pity you Colette, you are blinded because of the power of you family. I just pray you don't do anything that will ruin you, for as someone of my status, any mistake I make will eventually fade out of the puplics eyes...You on the other hand will have every little mistake permanetly remember, no one ever forgets when someone of you class messes up."

Colette threw her head back and laughed, "You really are clueless, aren't you! I'm from WALSBERG, remember? My father would rather me marry someone from there! But I say, no no no! If my younger sister gets to marry a man from here, then I should, too! And if my father won't listen, then me and Constantine will just elope together! He has some very rich relatives in America who would be more than happy to take us both in! So, I would still get to have my cake and eat it, too! Marry Constantine and still stay filthy rich!" She turned for a second to look at Annaliel. "It really is sad how you girls actually think you'll never fall for him. That's what a lot of my closest friends said, and, now, they're just as hooked on him as I am! Don't fight what you can't control, Annaliel. You'll only fall harder for him!.....And don't worry about me! I'll be just fine!" Colette then walked quickly down the hallways to see Constantine near the door outside. "Constantine! There you are! Annaliel has some ale for you! Do drink it! It'll make you feel much better!" she exclaimed hugging his arm close.

The young man eyed Colette suspiciously, "What was all that shouting I heard?"

"Oh, nothing! That was just the maids arguing over the laundry. Now, drink your ale!" she said snatching the alcohol from Annaliel and giving it to him.

Constantine drank it down quickly, and gave the empty cup back to Annaliel. "Thank you. Both of you. I'm sorry, Annaliel, but I'm afraid both I and Colette are going to have to go now....I'm not feeling too well. And it's 2:00, so both our mothers should be back from their morning stroll around the city. Right, Colette?"

"Oh, poo! You're awfully right! Well, see you later, Annieleel! And tell your sisters I said goodbye, too! I have to be heading back to Walsberg first thing tommorow morning! Bye!" she said forcing Annaliel into an uncomfortably tight hug and walking away behind Constantine, "Don't forgot what said, now!"

As soon as they had gotten outside to the carriage out of earshot, Constantine turned around towards Colette and said, "Alright! What did you say to her! I heard your voice all the way down the hall! You threatened her just like you do every girl you meet, didn't you?!"

The 20-year-old blinked as if she was confused. "Whatever do you mean? I wasn't threatning anyone at all! You need bedrest---I think you're beginning to hallucinate!" she said.

Constantine was forced to follow behind her inside the carriage as it pulled off away from the house. He didn't know what she had done, but he hoped it wasn't anything that would cause any problems in the future. He had plenty of those already. He escorted Colette to her house and walked her to the door. Of course, he didn't leave without giving her a firm warning, "Look, Colette. I like that you want to help me, but if you did anything to hurt those Ackworth girls, I'm going to be more than angry! I'm already trying to get out of this wedding, and if our parents found out that you did something to screw up the marriage, they'd blame me first for not keeping you away! I can't have that happening, okay?!"

She stood there looking at him, concerned, remembering what Annaliel had said about Constantine never staying with her. She then smiled and responded, ".....I understand.....but....only if you spend the night with me. You'd stay with me....wouldn't you?"

Constantine found himself in Colette's bed that night still wondering if she had said anything to his "fiancee". He wondered if Annaliel felt as dreadful as he did about the wedding, and what they could do to get out of it, if she did. Everything seemed so broken and out of place.....He was just happy that Colette at least was the only person helping him with his problem.

Constantine.jpg Colette Machird.jpg

Annaliel did her best to not snap while in front of Constantine, that would only make the situation worse and help Colette with her argument. She watched him drink the ale quickly and accepted the glass back quietly. A bit of relief filled her as Constantine said they had to leave, the soon that catty bitch of a woman left her house the better! She but on a polite smile and nodded with understanding her shyness not as strong since seh really wanted them out of her house. She accepted the hug from Colette, fighting the urge to squeeze the breath out of her at the very moment, and showed them to the door.

"I understand, I hope you feel better soon. It was a pleasure meeting you as well Colette, I hope we will see each other again before the wedding." She said, saying the last part just to jab at her one last time.

As soon as they were gone Annaliel was completely changed. She was breathing heavy as she tried her best not to scream, her knuckles going white as she held the glass in her hand tightly. She did not like that Colette, not one bit! She was also taking her damn time in stealing Constantine! She should hurry up and save Annaliel the trouble of having to shove him in Colette's direction. What made her even angrier was the fact that she claimed that she would fall in love with him! That thought made her want to scream. Annaliel would never fall for him, she had a dream to forfill! He was a nasty flirt anyway, only the lord knows how many women he's already slept with! If she ever was going to settle down and have children it would not be with him! Annaliel quickly put the glass back in the kitchen before returning to her sisters, all three of them taking notice of her angry expression.

"What Happen-" Emmilia started but Annaliel turned on her so fiercely that she was quickly silenced by her surprise.

"I. Will. Destroy her." She said through clenched teeth before she relayed the conversation she just had with the 'lovely' Colette.

Her sisters all seemed to turn vicious as they heard what had been said, each going quiet as they all thought of a way to bring that girl down a few pegs. Rebecca's eyes let up after a moment before she looked around at her sisters, an evil grin on her face.

"We're just going to take what she loves most, now won't we?" Emmilia and Sophia both seemed to catch the hint, but Annaliel paled a bit in worry...she did not like the sound of that. After much debating and a nasty argument later, Annaliel was convinced to play her part.

They were going to seduce Constantine Evingsdale.

The idea sounded impossible, but Annaliel was a blank canvas to paint on, and her sisters the artists that knew the audiance they were targeting. They spent the rest of the afternoon plotting and planning, working out trips into the city to shop for new dresses and undergarments. They were going to go all out for this! Of course, they didn't plan on making Annaliel stay with Constantine, that was the second part of the plan, for Annaliel to take interest in someone else, which would easily be done since the sisters all agreed to throw many parties "in honor of the couple" where Annaliel could have one last good look at all the avaliable chaps. Annaliel had to admit this plan was good, and in the end she would still get married so her parents couldn't be to upset, she just hoped that nothing went wrong.

For the next few weeks Annaliel was busy being dragged around town by her sisters and mother, who had been tricked into tagging along. They got her dresses and undergarments that Constantine would have trouble keeping his hands off of. They also bought new gloves and hair pins, as well as many bottles and jars of make up. However it seemed all this shopping would go to waste, for Constantine did not come over to visit. That was quickly changed though.

A letter arrived from Constantine's mother, telling them the king was hoping to throw a party in the couples honor! Annaliel's whole family was invited to the castle before the party to get ready and prepare for it. This was it! This was the first attack! Annaliel's contacted her sisters and their husbands quickly. As soon as nannies were haired and clothing and makeup was packed the group was on their way to the castle the day of the party. They arrived early and were greeted warmly by the king, who seemed a little more than happy to hug Annaliel. Later it was assumed that the king was just glad he didn't have to worry about saving the duke's image anymore. As soon as they were shown to their rooms, Annaliel's sisters swarmed her and started to prep her for the party, locking out anyone who couldn't offer a helping hand in keeping their sister still. The process had been long and painful but Annaliel was preped completely just before the party started, her sisters having slipped in and out to get themselves ready.

Annaliel couldn't help but feel..different. She certainly looked different. The shy girl she knew was now a bell of the ball! Her hair had been pulled back into a mass of curls that trailed down to the middle of her back instead of the usual tight bun. Her face had been painted in a way that she seemed to glow, her usually naked lips a tempting red. The dress showed off her small waist but poofed around her hips slightly, giving her a lovely figure. It also showed off her shoulders and gave the ever teasing peak of cleavage that men died for. The short lacy sleeves only seemed to add more as they slipped a little. Her shall was a deep blue and there were blue roses placed in her hair. She was absolutely beautiful, her mother almost broke down into tears when she saw her. The clock chimed loudly and that was the announcement that the party would be starting shortly. Her sisters and their husbands went down before her along with her parents, leaving Annaliel to wander down the large staircase by herself and into the party. As she headed down she tried to fight the urge to look at teh ground, she needed to look confident if this plan was going to work...and really hoped it did.

Of course, Colette was not going to miss this ball! She was absolutely excited and ready to intimidate the Ackworth girls again, and put on her best dress and shoes just as an added bonus. She was going to flirt with Constantine in their faces, because she knew that Annaliel would have told her sisters about her encounter by now! She wasn't worried about the ball being to celebrate the wedding----she was certain that she was going to have Constantine to herself, eventually! Arriving at the ball before the groom-to-be, Colette walked in poised and confident, as usual. A couple of jealous stares from a few girls, as usual, but....something wasn't right! Everyone was eyeing someone else in the crowd instead of her! "Who is it?!" she snapped at her younger sister. The young girl replied shakily, "I-It's that Ackworth girl......Annaliel....The one you hate so much?" Colette's eyes widened as she saw Annaliel in her new sexy get up and as her face turned red, she stormed off into another room! Those Ackworth girls may have thought they ahd gotten the best of her, but this wasn't over!

Constantine came in absolutely stunning himself. He was tired and all the more peeved. The last thing he wanted to do was come to this stupid ball where everyone would give him a half-hearted, "Congratulations!", and he would have to plaster a smile on and act as if he really cared. He DID NOT like Annaliel and there was nothing that could make him change his mind at all! Looking up, he saw Colette storming up the stairs angry and close to tears. He put down his glass of wine to go up and follow her to see what was wrong, when he saw what the "problem" was. Annaliel.......was beautiful! Constantine walked back down the stairs, his mouth agape unable to comprehend this beauty i front of him. His mother waltzed over to him and teased, "She's very beautiful to you now, isn't she?!" She laughed harmoniously with the Duke as Constantine replied in a shell-shocked voice, "Y-Yes!" He didn't know what had happened to Annaliel, but whatever it was, was a miracle! All the young man could do was stand there looking at her. His feet felt glued to the floor.

Constantine.jpg Colette Machird.jpg

Annaliel felt her cheeks flush as saw everyone was looking at her and watching her. This never happened before so it was very new being the center of attention. She couldn't falter though, she had to stay strong if she wanted to get the sweet revenge that she wished for. She looked around the party, a polite smile slipping onto her face as she held onto her fan tightly, her nerves fighting with her every step of the way. She turned her head and her gaze fell upon her target.

Constantine.

He seemed to be with his parents and watching her very intently, making her cheeks flush even more. It seemed that her sisters did a very good job on getting her ready, now it was all up to her. She glided down the stairs and over to the Evingsdale family, stopping on the second to last step. Even as she stood on the stairs Constantine was still taller and her, and that height gave her quite the advantage, allowing her to only lean forward the slightest, making the move blend in with her curtsy to them, and allow him to see into her cleveage. It was a dirty trick, but her eldest sister claimed it was how she got her husband so it was worth a shot.

"It is a pleasure to see Mrs. Evingsdale, Duke Evingsdale. I was just on my way to parents and sisters to join them in the parlor for conversation and drinks. I would be most happy if you would join us." She said before she turned her gaze up at Constantine. "You are welcome to come as well Constantine, unless you would like to speak with your friends instead."

She spoke in the softest yet sweetest tone she could make, doing her best to make it sound alluring. It was hard though, she never thought she would actually be trying to catch a man. But if this meant that she could bring that nasty Colette down from her high cloud then it was worth throwing herself to the wind and changing her usually quiet character...She just hoped no one questioned the sudden change.

"Why, of course, dear! We'll be delighted to join your family in the parlor! The King's parlor is very nice, might I add and I must say, darling, you look very beautiful this evening!" Coriella laughed pullling Annaliel into a light hug, "It's so sad we can't find Colette so she can come, too! Apparently, she and your sisters had become such good friends, or so I heard! But, oh well! I'm sure she'll show up sooner or later! Right, Constantine?" Constantine still stood their shell-shocked managing to whisper out, "Yes, mother". He wanted to speak with a few of his friends, but decided to tag along and see what was up with Annaliel's new.....get up. She was beautiful.......but how and, more importantly, why? He had thought for the past 2 months since their first meeting, that she was a proud shy girl not a sexy vixen! This was all new to Constantine, and he couldn't make heads or tails of this at all! As they all walked to the parlor, Constantine whispered into Annaliel's ear, "You're.......quite beautiful." It's the least he could say, right?

Constantine.jpg

Annaliel accepted the hug from Constantine's mother and smiled at her sweetly, doing her best not to make a sour face at the mention of Colette. Hopefully that girl would keep her distance, or at least get surrounded by man other men since Constantine was now technically taken. She politely walked with them to the parlor, walking at Constantine's side as his parents walked in front of them. She blushed deeply as he complimented her, a bit of her usual shyness peeking though. She smiled politely at him though and nodded her head a bit, waving her fan a bit to cool herself as they entered the hot and crowded parlor.

"Thank you...I feared that my sisters went a little over board with everything, I am glad that is not the case." She said in a whisper back to him. Hopefully this would throw him off, she didn't want him to think she was going to let him play around with her now. "You look very nice as well this evening..."She said back to him politely as her cheeks turned a little more pink. It was hard trying to be a flirt!

Constantine wasn't even paying attention to the conversation, he was too busy staring at Annaliel! Thankfully, she had told him it was of her sisters' doing and not her own, much to his relief. He almost thought that maybe she was doing that to seduce him! But no! It couldn't be that. Never in his life had he looked at girl and felt this......interested.....before. He had always looked at beautiful women, slept with them, then threw them to the side like an unwanted teddy bear, not even giving them a second glance. Well, he was always sleeping with Colette, but they were only good friends, and he was sure Colette understood that, too. Leaning over his chair once his parents were lost in the conversation, Constantine whispered to Annaliel, "Umm...It would be most wonderful if we could talk alone....I know of a good place in the castle. I think you'd love it."

Constantine.jpg

Annaliel drifted in and out of the conversation among her family, it was hard to focus with Constantine so close. She could feel his eyes on her, and it was rather strange, it was so intent that it took all of her strenght not to shiver. At the same time however, it was a trill. She never felt like this before, being the center of attention was more fun than she thought. For it wasn't just Constantine, it was many of the men in teh room, young and old, single and taken...she never thought she could have such power! She didn't let it get to her head though, she had a mission. To crush Colette. She couldn't let things get to her head, or she would be no better than they annoying little bitch she was trying to ruin. She turned and looked to him quietly for a moment as he whispered to her, asking if they could speak alone. She wasn't too sure about being alone with him, but when she glanced to her sisters they all seemed to lost in the conversation to give her advise...She'd have to wing it and go...it would be safer to make mistakes out of public eye anyway.

"Alright...I will go with you." She whispered back, hiding her face slightly behind her fan as her cheeks flushed red again.

Constantine led her out of the room after a quick nod to his mother. She didn't mind what they did, just so long as they were getting along enough to go through with the wedding! Just seeing her son walk away with his fiancee excited Coriella, and she in turn whispered to the Duke about it who smiled in approval, as well! Constantine walked up the stairs nervously. He had hoped that Annaliel didn't think he was trying to get her into bed or anything--- for the first time in his life, he could safely say it was most definitely not that! He walked to the very end of the hall where large double doors with two guards at each side were standing. He nodded to them, and then turned to Annaliel and said, "Well.....I know that when we first met I saw in your room what must be your most favorite thing, so I think you'll love this!" He then pushed open the doors and let Annaliel inside the Royal Library! It was the largest and most spectacular place you could imagine with shelves as high as the ceiling and books and scrolls everywhere! He laughed as walked around the room with his arms outstretched, "So...What do you think? It's absolutely the most wonderful library you have ever seen, right?....I've secretly had a love of books myself, and have been coming here ever since childhood! I've been coming here since I was 4 and I've still have yet to read all the books! Every book you can imagine is in this immense library....It's currently the largest library in Europe!" Sighing, he looked over to Annaliel, "I'm....sorry that I underestimated you and treated you badly.....I never really was good at respecting women. So, I've told the King to let you come here whenever you want, as a token of my apology. I really do mean it..... And I am most definitely not trying to seduce you. I only wanted to share this with you, since you're probably the only other person I know of who likes books and isn't some 60-year-old scholar!" He gave her the most sincere smile he could make, in hopes that she would understand.

Constantine.jpg

Annalie walked up the stairs with Constantine quietly, feeling a little uncertain as he lead her away from the party. If he tried anything then she would certainly scream and slap him across the face! How could he think of such things while at party in his honor being hosted by the king! She felt a bit of relief as it seemed he wasn't taking to her room and in fact some place else. For a moment she only watched curiously as he opened the large doors, only for her mouth to open in awe at the sight before her. It was amazing! She had never seen so many books before in her life! She slowly looked around the library, just barely listening to Constantine as she walked along the shelves of cooks, peeking at each to see what it held. She turned back to him for a moment, still a little shocked by it all.

"Thank you...It was very kind of you to do this for me..." She said softly, her shy nature seeming to appear once again. She quickly shook it off though and put her confident air back on. "I am rather surprised really. You do not seem to type to be a lover of books, at least we now have some common ground to share. And I accept your apology...It would do us no good if one of us kept a grudge over silly little thing." She said sweetly as she turned back to the books and looked around more.

She seemed to be trying to hold back the urge to run among the shelves and bury herself in a good book, she didn't want to seem rude if she suddnely started to ignor him. She just wandered along the edge of the shelves instead, staying within Constantine's view. She smiled every once in awhile as she saw a title she new or a book she had read before, the happy expression showing off her natural beauty unknowingly. In fact she seemed to just let herself go among the books. A smile was set on her lips and her eyes sparkled curiously as she looked over unknown titles that caught her eyes. Her hands would run slowly over their spines of certian novels she pulled from the shelves, her fingers flipping teh pages gently. This was her enviornment, the place where she truly shined, and certaimly Constantine would notice that.

Constantine was happy that Annaliel was infatuated by it all. He had been here so many times, but even he was still infatuated himself! He watched as she looked at each shelf in awe and excitement. "I'm glad that you accept! It really is a marvelous place....Oh, and I almost forgot!" Walking over to a particular shelf far off, and then running back quickly with a large, old book under his arm. He gave it to her and said, "I wanted you to have this.....My teacher wrote it himself before he died. It's about the Ancient Roman and Greek Philosophers and the different theories of Human life and religions of the past. It's quite good and its kind of old since I read it so much....I think you'd find it interesting, too." He smiled at her. He realized she was much more beautiful in her awe-struck gaze than she ever was in all those fancy clothes and makeup. In a way that only he seemed to see......Seeing that he was staring at her for much too long, he shook his head and laughed. "I-I'm sorry! Well....I think we should be getting back to the parlor. Wouldn't want our families thinking we're up to anything!" he said leading her back over to the door.

Annaliel put the book she had in her hand away and watched him run off for a moment. She couldn't help but be curious about what he was getting, what could he possibly want to show her? When he returned she couldn't stop her eyes from going wide at the sight of the massive book. She took the book shyly and ran her hand over it slowly, taking in the feel of it. She wanted to read it right then and their, but his laugh brought her back to reality and she remembered there was a party going on in their honor. She walked back with him to the door, the book being held tightly to her chest, and she smiled once more.

"Thank you...I shall read it as soon as I get home and treat it very nicely." She said as they walked back to the party side by side.

Constantine walked back down the stairway glad that everything was okay. Deep in thought, he wondered about what his personal opinion was about the wedding still. Did he still rather not marry her? Did she still hate him? As they got back to the party, he led Annaliel across the ballroom floor and back over to the parlor when Colette hopped in front of them blocking their path! She looked steaming mad, but still managed a small smile, and her face and eyes were a little red as if she had been crying. Her makeup was still looking good, though, and she still looked ravashing to the men. Constantine smiled and said, "Colette! Where have you been?! My parents had been looking for you everywhere! We were starting to think that you had decided not to come....Are you alright? It looks like you've been crying a little...."

The young woman pouted and flipped back her curly tresses. "I am just fine! It's that slut of a bookworm that's the problem! I thought you said you didn't want to marry her?! And all of a sudden you're whisking her away to the Royal Library?! And you promised you'd dance with me first!" she whined. Pretending to cry a little, she put her head down. "I knew it! I knew it, Constantine! I knew that as soon as she wormed her way into your head, you'd forget all about me! And you have!" she cried a little to add more effect and make her friend feel guilty. There was no way that Ackworth steal him away! No way at all!

Constantine stood there speechless and feeling quite guilty for having forgotten about her like that. He really hated to see Colette cry since they were such good friends, and he turned to Annaliel and stammered, "I-I'm sorry, Annaliel! I did promise her I'd dance with her, and I did forget. You don't mind if I dance with her for a spell, do you? I hate to see her cry like this......You can make it back to the Parlor on your own, right?"

"YIPPEEEEE!" Colette squealed suddenly sparking up, and pulling Constantine away from Annaliel and in the middle of the ballroom floor before the girl could even answer. She pressed herself close against Constantine and in his arms, as they waltzed across the floor. Giggling, she said to him, "I've always loved dancing with you, Constantine! You know that....I love you, right?" She turned to look at Annaliel and made a mocking smirk to her. I've got him right where I want him! With me!
