Agents of Galactic Standstill

  • So many newbies lately! Here is a very important PSA about one of our most vital content policies! Read it even if you are an ancient member!
My point is when I put in a personality section, sometimes it doesn't even survive the first post with that character :p
Usually when its a 'new' character for me, I have a few that tend to get recreated from time to time for different RP's, personalities I have developed already with an associated name. Ana is not one of those.
Well, I don't know how most GMs are, but as for me I'm completely fine with you putting down a placeholder and then refining it later. And kudos on ya for trying something new! :D

Hm, I seem to have missed a bit in the OOC here. And yeah, probably time to step into the negotiations. Though it's not as necessary now, it seems.

Come to think of it, would a Nebula ship equipped for life support have the cargo space to carry the food and water for a (potential) crew, or do they either expect only temporary visitors or have some other means for providing for their well-being. It's a lot more than a comfortable atmosphere that most living things tend to need.

Well having a life support system would mean having enough food, water and oxygen for an entire crew for an extended period of time. I was thinking about it yesterday, but since your ship is so big, it must have a large enough reservoir of water to supply the moon with immediate relief if we found a way to pull the water from the life support and transport it to the surface.

I think the colony's several million people, as was mentioned early on in its narration. While a kilometer long ship can certainly be called a flying city, I doubt it'd be intended to support that large a population.

Then in order to get the water they need, it will require either getting another Nebulas ship to transport the water or getting A human ship with FTL capabilities to do it. Both options my character would not like lol.

Option three being bombard the rude magistrate from orbit and decrease population size to something we can work with.

I was going to say have us escort human ships transporting the water. Get some fights with pirates and maybe other Nebula ships in there.

Okay, some clarification here. Life Support does indeed include food and support for a crew! But... just the crew. And even for a ship as large as a heavy cruiser, thanks to heavy automation a crew would be less than a thousand people. And the water is highly filtered and recycled, and the food is very processed, highly nutritious sludge, basically. There would be enough supplies to last as long as an expected mission, perhaps six months or so, at which point the ship would need to resupply at a space station.

Also yes, Lythios Minor has 5 million people, with over 500 people dying each day, to accidents/environmental hazards or violent crime or dehydration/starvation.

That being said, the situation isn't as dire as it sounds. The main reason they're having so much of a problem right now is internal strife and discontent among the workers, as well as just plain old mistakes being made due to concentration difficulties (it's hard to think when you're dehydrated). The filtration systems aren't running as efficiently as they could be, but if they could get that under control, a relatively small amount of water would go a very long way, especially given the population decreases.

And with that, I must sadly head to work. I won't be able to make an IC response for 10 hours or so. :<

In case you lot haven't been reading the bits I've been replying to there is actually water on its way already... well assuming Ana doesn't swat the good captain before they can make a jump to FTL... and assuming they don't kill themselves in the attempt to do it from inside the asteroid field...

Edit: Don't mind me... I forgot to actually read the new entries in the IC before making my comment :/ now I feel silly...

Well, remember that OOC knowledge and IC knowledge are to be kept separate. The players know that water is on the way, but the characters don't know that. :P

Also, Honorific, that was quite a change from 'bombard the colony' to 'we gotta help them!' xD

So, at this point I want to ask- because we've been playing for a few days now- are you guys enjoying this so far? I know we haven't had much in the way of combat yet and that will certainly be fun when we get to the rest-of-the-Nebula-Fleet-turns-hostile portion of the RP, but I want to make sure- is everyone having fun?

@Dip, I notice you haven't been posting very much. Is everything okay? You don't need to make your posts as long as you have been previously, if that's what's holding you back from posting more regularly. :o

@Gat, I really appreciate your posting regularity and quality! I know you had some holdups about that initially but you've done fantastic! You were clearly underselling so as to lower my expectations. :b

@Daws Combine, @R-9 Pilot, and @Honorific you guys are doing great, keeping the plot moving in what I feel is a good combination of character development and story advancement. :3

On my part, I'm very curious- do you guys enjoy the more narrative style of my posts that I've been going for, detailing information about the characters you're interacting with? Or does it come across as purple prose? Do you find the tales of the background characters interesting or unnecessary? I roleplay for the fun of it, but also to try and push myself and become a better writer, so I'd definitely appreciate some honest feedback, even if it is harsh criticism. Can't improve if I don't recognize a fault!

Oh, this is a blast. Certianly by far the best time I've had all month. And I'm on a phone! I can only imagine the fun I would have at my computer at home...

But, yeah. I don't really have any complaints. I mean, I'm posting posts half as long ad everyone elses, and you pull so much out of it. You're better at this then I am, that's for sure.

I very much enjoy the world you are building each time you make a post. Though If we are giving out critism I find that you tend to have some run on sentences. Thats the only thing I find wrong with the way you write and I love what you write about. I am always excited to read your posts as well as everyone elses. I want Goliath to wake up! Behemoth keeps talking about Her... What can possibly be so wrong and was she effected like we were? Also is Ana been affected similarly when she was put int he human core? I have all these questions xD

@Insomnant Would it be over stepping for me to write about jumping out of system and getting to the other system to stop Ana in case she was planning on swatting that poor captain like a fly? I would be able to stop them both from Jumping with my bad ass device.

-edits Im Currently stalking Insomnant and she is not answering my question right now <-<

I've been enjoying things so far. It's an interesting bit of playing around, and its fun to see where things go. I'm also doing better than usual for writing up more detailed posts, which is a good thing.

I do appreciate the detail and narrative style in the general GMing posts. Even if it's overall irrelevant, it's good to see the NPCs' sides of the story, and it adds something to the entire narrative, I think. No reason to change on that front. I'm not sure I have any criticisms, but if I notice anything that bugs me, I'll mention it.

I would like to say that I only mentioned the whole run on thing because I was reading your posts to a friend of mine out loud and it tripped me up a couple times. I'm sure if I looked at my own writing It would be much worse lol

That is a very valid point and a criticism I have received before. And, humorously enough, something I have been working on, just not enough. As bad as it is now, I've actually gone back and added in periods and made new sentences because before I edited it they were twice or even three times as long. xD Thanks though, you are right- I do need to keep working on it! I tend to be long-winded in real life too. x3

I would be perfectly okay with you arriving in time to prevent the upcoming smuggler swattage. The two scenes did not by any means have to be playing out concurrently. That being said, I would check to see how Gat feels about it first.

And uh... which device? Tractor beams prevent sublight travel, not FTL travel. The device that prevents FTL jumps is the Gravity Well Generator, which Makoto has, but Horizon does not. Not that it's truly needed right now- I think just showing up and yelling 'wait no stop!' should be enough. xD

-edits yes I did Dx

I could of sworn I have the cloaking field and the Well Generator.... Is it too late to change my cs xD I shall await Gats Approval before writing then!

It's not too laaaate... but are you sure about that? Makoto already has a Gravity Well Generator, and you are currently the only one with a tractor beam... =P

SIGH! Yes I am fine with it. I can live without the ability to ruin peoples day lol

Also if Horizon screaming, Please Stop! does not work. Her 4 Heavy Warp turrets will might be a little more persuading.

I find the whole conversation about stopping Ana quite amusing, particularly sicne i didn't read it until after i hit post :p

to answer the question about Ana being similarly effected by the human core, that was a case of her program had multiple corruptions and in an effort to make herself 'whole' again wires were crossed and code gaps were patched with whatever was available.

the difference being Ana apparently wasn't assaulted with an overwhelming sense of compassion. as it happened a while ago she's also had more time to adapt to the concept of being sentient.
