After Years

[BCOLOR=transparent]Hinata felt the slight thud of the door on his bed and pulled out one of his headphones. The music could probably have been heard by his roommate because of how loud it had been. He sat up on the bed and looked at Kageyama. "Is she gone?" He asked, his usually cheerful tone replaced with an uncaring kind of tone that made his voice sound deeper than it actually was.[/BCOLOR]

[BCOLOR=transparent]Kageyama blinked and looked down at Hinata. [/BCOLOR]

[BCOLOR=transparent]"Ouh," he said, nodding his head and taking a seat where Hinata was. Being so close, he could still smell the conditioner Hinata used. For once, he felt a bit confused, and lay his head on the ginger's shoulder, though from being so tall, his head ended up buried in the mess of Hinata's hair.[/BCOLOR]

[BCOLOR=transparent]Hinata's amber eyes widened as he noticed the other on top of his head. His cheeks turned a pink flush as he tried not to move to disturb the other. He could smell the sweet scent of the shampoo and conditioner the other had used plus whatever else he had done this morning.[/BCOLOR]

[BCOLOR=transparent]Kageyama sighed before sitting up again, noticing the smaller male's body language. He pressed a hand to the small of Hinata's back, working his knuckles into the delicate spot like a massage. Years before, when Hinata used to tense up before stressful matches, he would do this Hinata to loosen his shoulder muscles and calm his stomach. Kageyama's sharp eyes pierced Hinata, silently asking if he was okay.[/BCOLOR]

[BCOLOR=transparent]Hinata's shoulders loosened and fell. He let out a sigh and his body just seemed to relax. He looked at Kageyama and gave a nod of approval that he was okay.[/BCOLOR]

[BCOLOR=transparent]Kageyama gave a soft grunt and moved his hand away from Hinata's back, snaking it around the ginger's hip, pulling him closer. He gave his hip a gentle squeeze, a small reassurance that he was fine from whatever happened to deflate his mood. The noirette wasn't sure if he should ask what happened between the bathroom and dorm room to sour his mood.[/BCOLOR]

[BCOLOR=transparent]Hinata's cheeks changed color lightly, giving his cheeks a rosy color. He tilted his head to the side and put his head on the others shoulder. Closing his eyes, exhaling lightly.[/BCOLOR]

[BCOLOR=transparent]Kageyama started to feel like he was back in Japan with how him and Hinata were wrapped up. After losing a match, Hinata would end up resting on Kageyama but also after winning, Hinata would fall asleep on the bus back home and sleep on Kageyama (note that Kageyama fell asleep too with his head resting on Hinata's). Then he remembered something was different this time. [/BCOLOR]

[BCOLOR=transparent]Clearing this throat, his fingers started to tap lighting on Hinata's hip, his breathing causing the puff of orange to rise and fall slightly. His voice was low and he was sure Hinata could feel his voice vibrate in his chest. [/BCOLOR]

[BCOLOR=transparent]"Does this.." Kageyama emphasized by squeezing his hip again. "Make you feel anything?"[/BCOLOR]

[BCOLOR=transparent]Hinata shifted slightly moving his hand to meet with Kageyama's other one. He had no idea what to say. When they had kissed the first time when he showed up he felt a huge spark inside but this time it was warmer and everything seemed to spark all over. He nuzzled his head into the others shoulder a little more. "Y... Yeah..." he said, stuttering as his hand met the noirette's, trying to search for the gaps between his fingers with his own.[/BCOLOR]

[BCOLOR=transparent]Kageyama nodded, swallowing audibly, his Adam's apple bobbing along with it. His breath came out in a shudder as he closed his eyes, feeling how warm it had gotten for him as Hinata reached to intertwine their fingers together. He noticed how Hinata's hands were only a bit smaller than his, how his scent was gentler, and his hair was soft, and how his voice trembled, and Kageyama panicked. [/BCOLOR]

[BCOLOR=transparent]"I need to do something," he murmured with a hushed tone, standing up and feeling cold as he left Hinata's presence. Kageyama grabbed his bag, slinging it over his shoulders as he left the room, closing the door softly behind him. As he was making his way downstairs and out of the boys dorm, he came across Tsukiko, a man reprimanding her. [/BCOLOR]

[BCOLOR=transparent]"You're no good, ShittyKawa." [/BCOLOR]

[BCOLOR=transparent]The girl shushed him as she noticed Kageyama down the hall. She waved as the other man rolled his eyes and left, murmuring to himself. [/BCOLOR]

[BCOLOR=transparent]"Tobio-[/BCOLOR][BCOLOR=transparent]chaaaan[/BCOLOR][BCOLOR=transparent], want to come get coffee with me?" [/BCOLOR]

[BCOLOR=transparent]Kageyama hesitated, sighing to himself and needing the distraction. "Auh," he said with a low voice, agreeing and following behind the preppy girl out of the dorm.[/BCOLOR]

[BCOLOR=transparent]Hinata watched as the other stood, leaving him there on the bed as he left. He looked at the hand that he had been holding Kageyama's with and noticed how cold it had gotten in the second he had left. The ginger still had about 10 minutes before his class was gonna start and he figured he should just go early. He gathered up his books and threw them in his bag before heading out the door. [/BCOLOR]

[BCOLOR=transparent]He made his way out the door of the boys dorm before walking towards the building that had all the classrooms. He heard a familiar female voice and stopped to look to the side and see Tsukiko walking away with Kageyama. The younger tensed, feeling his heart start to pound faster. He shook himself out of the trance and made his way to the classroom building and down go his classroom, pretty much breaking into a run trying to get away from that scene.[/BCOLOR]

Kageyama stayed quiet as he walked along the empty path with Tsukiko, not really paying attention to where he was going and being trapped in his own thoughts. He wasn't sure why he panicked when Hinata admitted to feeling something; Kageyama wasn't even sure what exactly the ginger felt. The man was just aware that he and Hinata were friends, but it felt so... different. He was only used to focusing on nothing but volleyball with Hinata, constantly tossing a ball late at night in either's room, playing games before bed, going to festivals. Kageyama knew he didn't have many friends, the people on the team being the only ones he really hung out with, but he really only had one best friend, and that was Hinata. Everything had changed once they graduated it seemed and though Kageyama hadn't changed, he had a sinking feeling that Hinata did. Everybody did. Suddenly, Kageyama felt extremely alone, as if he was the only one in a large sea of people who hadn't changed. And that was exactly what it was.

A soft voice interrupted his thoughts, his attention turning towards the tall girl beside him.

"Are you ignoring me, Tobio-chan?" She inquired with a giggle; her voice gentle and causing warmth to spread in his stomach. Something seemed so familiar about this girl, this woman, and Kageyama couldn't place his finger on it. Her eyes were a nice shade of brown, reminding him of hot tea in the middle of winter, and her hair was lush and long. He got a sudden urge to touch the brown locks, noticing how the paleness of her skin was aesthetically coupled with the dark tones of her hair and eyes. She looked soft, pretty, feminine.

Not at all like a short, athletic boy with obnoxiously bright hair.

Kageyama was temporarily startled to find a hand being waved in his face, blushing when he realised he'd been caught staring. Admiring.

"Tobioooo," Tsukiko teased, dark eyes glinting with mirth. Kageyama felt angered by the expression, but he found himself attracted to it, too.

"What?" he asked irritably.

"We're here."

He made a noise of slight surprise, having been caught up in his thoughts that he didn't realise it'd been around fifteen minutes already without talking and they had arrived at the coffee shop. Kageyama reached to open the door, feeling his heart thud against his chest as Tsukiko gave him a familiar smile.

Hinata arrived at his classroom and walked over to his seat in the third row of the auditorium like room. He leaned back in the wooden chair as other students talked around the room. There was about 10 minutes before class started and he could have come in a little later but he wanted to be as far away as possible from the scene that had played out before him only about 5 minutes prior before he had ended up where he was now. He sat up straight in his seat as he watched the teacher walk in and begin to get ready, even though he had about 3 minutes left, he always liked to prep before the bell rung for first hour of the day for most students.

Hinata pulled up his bag into his lap, pulling out his English text book and his notebook. Most of the time Hinata didn't have to pay attention to know what was going on in class and would doodle in his notebook while taking notes from what he heard the teacher say. He was kind of relieved that none of the kids that "where absent" asked him to borrow his notes, or anything along those lines because of the doodles he drew. They were just doodles, most of the time scribbles but sometimes he would draw really detailed drawings. Some of the people he talks to in his classes even saw what he was drawing sometimes and would compliment him. Today he would probably need the distraction of doodling or having to read the text book since he wanted to get everything that had happened since the moment he woke up this morning out of him brain.

Once the bell had rung, everyone who had been talking in groups around the classroom, made their way to their seats and the room fell silent other than the teacher who was talking about something about his morning and complaining about how he as woken up by his newborn baby.

When his teacher was calling out role call it was then that he remembered that Tsukiko was originally in this class with him on Tuesdays and Fridays. Today was a Thursday, so the next day he would have to see the brunette sit, only a few seats down from him. It would have probably been even worse if Kageyama were to have taken the same class, and had it on the same days with him and Tsukiko all three of them being in the same class, with Kageyama sitting next to Tsukiko.

Hinata tried to push the thought aside, shaking his head lightly before looking down at his notebook, picking up his pencil, and jotting down a few notes from the teacher while drawing someone, in complete detail, tossing a volleyball to the spiker. Both of the people looking like Kageyama and himself.

As Kageyama and Tsukiko were sitting down sipping from cups filled with warm liquids, the girl's phone started buzzing, obnoxiously rattling on the table and catching both of their attentions (as well as some other people around them). Tsukiko hummed softly before swiping her finger on her phone, dismissing the notification. She looked at the man sitting across from her and gave a light smile, noticing the curiosity in his dark eyes.

"Just my alarm for class," she explained. "I turned in my homework early so don't worry about it, okay?" She lifted her hand as if to point to the ceiling but caught herself and quickly put her hand down, focusing on the chocolate syrup that was melting into the whipped cream on top of her drink. Kageyama silently looked at her before looking down at his own drink, oblivious to the awkward silence that ensued.

His eyes lost focus and his brain numbed for a few solid seconds before his eyes darted to Tsukiko's moving hand, a slim phone held in her hands. Kageyama noticed they looked a bit large for a female's hand. As Tsukiko fixated her gaze on her phone, Kageyama took the chance to look around the location of where they were currently at. A young man sat on a stool with a guitar in his arms, strumming softly and making idle chat with another guy at the table near the makeshift stage. The way the street outside was set up reminded him a lot of Japan, a cluster of people and small shops, not large enough for any cars, or bikes for that matter. There was a candy shop across the street and a built-in bookstore in the coffee shop.

Kageyama was startled out of his observations as he felt something rub against his foot, tossing a look to the woman across from him. Tsukiko glanced at him slyly, her eyelashes creating a thick shadow and making her chocolate eyes look darker.

"What classes are you taking?"

He started at her for a few minutes before blinking rapidly, realising he was being addressed.

"Huh?"

Tsukiko rolled her eyes in vague annoyance.

"I asked what classes are you taking?"

"Oh."

.
.
.

"Well?"

"I'm thinking!" Kageyama exclaimed rather loudly, causing a few people to turn their heads.

"No reason to shout."

Kageyama grunted.

"I'm not taking many right now since I still need to finish learning English... So just English and Arts."

"Arts?"

"Ouh."

Tsukiko looked genuinely surprised and Kageyama felt a but insulted.

"You don't think I can draw?"

"Don't get so defensive, Tobio-chan."

Kageyama huffed under his breath.

"Don't call me that..."

Tsukiko raised an eyebrow.

"Please." He strangled out.

"Why not?" She asked, lazily bouncing her foot.

Kageyama looked out the window, fingering the plastic of the cup, a loud crinkling noise filling the air between them.

"An old... adversary of mine used to call me that."

Tsukiko made a small noise and looked blankly at Kageyama. The man looked at her, her eyes dark but no longer in shadow.

"I think we should head back. Don't want the king to be late to his next class."

Kageyama nodded, standing up and throwing his cup away, holding open the door for Tsukiko.

It took him reaching his dorm to realise what she had said.

King.

As Kageyama was scratching his head, sitting on his bed and pondering heavily over this, the door to the dorm opened.

Hinata's morning class had just ended and he barely paid any attention and they were gonna have a test the next day. He had been too busy thinking about the scene from earlier and doodling little murderous scenes, is what it seemed like, on his paper.

Walking back to his dorm room he let out a sigh. What would he say to Kageyama later? He couldn't keep silent with his friend forever. He had to talk to him at some point even if that meant not bringing anything from this morning up.

When he got to his dorm room he opened the door setting his bag on the couch and taking off his shoes. Once he had done this, he finally looked up and saw Kageyama sitting on his bed. His eyes darted away when he felt like he made eye contact with the noirette. He quickly slipped off his hoodie, and dashed up the ladder that led to the top bunk. Once up there he laid on his side and faced the wall, not wanting to have to talk to Kageyama. It had only been about an hour once what he had scene with Tsukiko and his friend.

He shifted uncomfortably a few times, wanting to say something, wanting to break the silence but not finding my words to say to do so.

Muttering something inaudiable to himself he rolled over onto his back, ready to break the silence.

"Hi..." he said, trying to sound tired and not just make it seem like he had been ignoring the other for some reason.

Kageyama rested his head in his palms, groaning inwardly before leaning back carefully, ducking his head under the separator of the bunk and laying down on his bed, his knees bent over the side. A few minutes passed of silence between him and Hinata before he sat up, knocking his head against the underside of Hinata's bunk and with a grumbling "stupid fucking beam." He sat in the chair behind the desk, the only chair and desk in the whole dorm before pulling a thick notebook from his bag, bringing out a pencil and a worn down eraser with it. Kageyama flipped a few pages before settling on a clean one. As his pencil touched the paper, he heard Hinata's soft voice behind him. Kageyama gave a subtle turn of the head before focusing back on the paper, making a soft grunting noise before saying, "Hi."

Hinata shifted to his side and looked down at the noirette in his chair. He sat up, resting his cheek on his palm and watching the back of the others head calmly. His black hair had gotten longer, much like the gingers. He shook himself out of his trance, sitting up fully before crawling over to the latter and climbing down. He walked over to his closet and threw on a new shirt and sweatshirt before turning over to Kageyama. "Do you wanna come with me to the store? I need to get some stuff for dinner. While we're there you can help me decide what to have for dinner as well." he suggested to the other, walking over to the door and slipping on some shoes to go out in.

Kageyama shifted in the seat, not quite thinking about anything, staring blankly at the sketch he just started working on. The pencil moved lightly on the paper, wrist flicking in rigid yet fluid motions. Sitting there, a second passed, a few, possibly a full minute of him sitting there and the ginger staring at him. When he thought Hinata was about to inform him that he was leaving himself, with or without him, Kageyama stood up, delicately flipping his sketchbook so the cover lay on top.

"
Auh," he acknowledged, grabbing a hoodie and a beanie from his still packed suitcase, knowing the weather was chilly from earlier. He threw on the clothes, tugging the beanie down to his ears and walking up to Hinata, looking down impassively at the shorter male. Their chests bumped slightly, Kageyama impaling Hinata with a steely, dark gaze.

"
Let's go," he said, pulling away and squinting his eyes, as if he was trying to see something. The doorknob was cold to the touch as he turned it, pushing the door away and leaving a gap under his out-stretched arm for Hinata to walk through.

Hinata watched the other carefully, as he does everything he needs to do before walking over to the smaller. When their chests touch, it may have only been a little bit and barely noticeable, but it causes a small shiver to go up his spine before he hears the other tell him 'Let's go'.

He went under the others arm, that was extended high enough for him to duck under. He waited outside the door for Kageyama to close the door and lock it. After he heard the clicking noise he made his way down the hallway and out the dorm doors. He shivered at the shrill air and pulled his sleeves over his bare hands.

The air is crisp for it being fall but it's a lot colder since it is getting closer to winter. He pulled his hood up over his spiky hair, trying to make his ears from freezing off. He looks up at Kageyama out of the corner of his eyes. He looks cute in a beanie. Hinata thinks to himself, shaking his head to moment he says the thought in his head. Stop acting so gay. As far as you know he could like...

His mood soon changed to a sad one. He shook his head hard, needing to stop from walking to get his thoughts straight and push them aside. It wasn't like him to think about stuff from the past like that. Once Kageyama was a few feet away Hinata skipped back up to be at his side, faking a smile and trying to not think about anything like that again.

It took them a little over twenty minutes to arrive at the store; a whole twenty minutes of pure silence between the two, the only sounds being the ambient noise of the world around them. When they arrived at the grocery store, Kageyama was slightly thrown off by how large it was, expansive in rows and rows of food. He was also thrown off by the giant green logo that loomed over his head on the front of the building.

"Pub...likes?"

Kageyama furrowed his eyebrows, that irritating feeling heating his head when he didn't understand something. He knew, deep down in his thoughts, that this was something he was going to run into quite often. Kageyama wasn't angry at the fact he would have to reply on Hinata for help, and though it was rare for the two to ever come to each other for help, Kageyama felt a settling warmth in the pit of his stomach at the thought. Of all people, he was glad he was stuck with his best friend.

Shrugging his irritation off, he caught up to Hinata, the chill breeze of the air vents cooling his warm, tanned cheeks as the automatic door opened. He grabbed a small basket, fiddling with the green handles.
