Window to the soul... with FiliaFlammae

Tala had vaguely processed Neirin's odd reaction to her when she had come out of hiding from the doorway. His breathing seemed a little heavier than it had before, and every inch of him screamed discomfort. It did not help her own nerves terribly to see him react this way, not after the strange happenings of the evening before. She could not help but continue to wonder if he was now afraid of her, or blamed her for the way that evening had gone. What confused her the most was the smell that hit her, pretty clearly coming from Neirin. It was familiar, but subtle. Her already stressed mind could not pinpoint where she remembered it from, and so she opted to ignore it for now.

By the time Neirin and Oswin had finished eating their breakfast, Tala's plate was only about half empty. She had only managed to get down small bites of what she had been given, and felt sorry for wasting the food. But there were nerves she was keeping in check, accompanied by a nausea she was fighting. After a few more clearly forced bites she could not handle anymore, and stood from the table fairly abruptly. The chair made an uncomfortably loud scraping noise, and she stared at the table to avoid the gazes she was sure she felt on her. She did not like being the center of attention, but it was a show of her resolution that she had not yet bolted from the house to avoid... all of this. Instead she made her way over to the doorway where they were waiting for her, glancing back at Agatha one more time, her face likely showing her uncertainty. She had - mostly - made this decision herself, but clearly the idea of being 'shared' with another family was upsetting to her. It went against all of her normal understanding of pack and family. You did not go back and forth. You were loyal to one group only, and led by your alpha.

When she got to the doorway she hesitated, hit again by the familiar but very unfamiliar smell that clearly reminded her of 'deer' but was eluding her memory. They were now both avoiding looking at each other, but the signals were not clear. She could not decide why he wasn't looking at her, but she knew why she wasn't able to look at him directly... and it had very little to do with the current situation.
